The Patient's Bill (And why it's important for doctors, too) - Doc to Doc Episode 2 - Duration: 3:38.

Informed patients are happy patients

and happy patients make your life much easier!

We here at Reimbursement Rx are constantly being asked

how we can help doctors make better financial

choices and how we can increase

reimbursement. Well, there's, not one definitive answer

and I always like to go back to the basics and

make sure that doctors understand what it's like

for patients, because we need to remember our main

objective here. It is to do right by our patients and

that means both medical and financial decisions.

So, here's one good example of how things work:

Let's say you are surgeon

and you just saw a patient whose

primary care physician sent to you for abdominal

pain. You get an ultrasound and discover gallstones

and schedule her for an elective cholecystectomy

for, let's say, Tuesday, because Tuesday your OR day.

So for you it's rather simple.

You start with the patient here in your exam room

and then you take her to OR

and 12 hours later she's back here.

And in order not to complicate matters let's make

this patient a 55 year old insured woman.

You will, of course, bill her insurance and in a

perfect world you get a payment of X amount of dollars

probably within two or three weeks.

And then, two weeks later,

you get a very angry phone call from this woman

asking you why she has to pay

10 times X

and you really don't know what to say.

Well, why?

Well, let's go back from home to OR back to here.

When patients are seeing you, they're in pain.

They're not happy and they're scared.

They want to know how they can get better and

if it's gonna hurt whatever it is you are going to do to them.

They also want to know how much is going to cost

but they're afraid to ask, because they think you

going to treat them differently or they think you're just

going to give the same care, and while this is not true

they don't know that. So in this case, this woman

got her gall bladder out and you needed help from an

Anesthesiologist

And then in post-op recovery her blood pressure went

through the roof and then of course you asked for

medical consult.

Because that's what you do and the medical consult did

what they do best and they ordered labs, lots of them.

And maybe, if they're overanxious, a CT scan.

And they also prescribed some medication to help lower blood pressure.

And something for pain.

And of course, everything came back normal and

the patient went home. As far as you know, you just bill her and

you get a bill for X amount of dollars and then

what happens to her? Well, you are not the only

game in town anywhere. Remember the

anesthesiologist, the medical consult, labs, CAT Scan,

all the medications?

All of those professionals bill for their services

and it becomes X

plus X

plus a lot more X.

So when the patient finally gets her bill

it's your charge, which is actually small

compared to everything else and there's all

those other chargers that she's liable for.

And if she has a high deductible insurance with a

co-insurance as well, which is the case for

patients right now,

she's liable for those charges.

So next time, think about. Talk to your patients.

Tell them there are a lot of hidden charges, some of which are

outside your control. Maybe they will ask about

different facilities where they can do surgery,

or at least they'll be prepared.

They'll know what they are facing.

Informed patients and happy patients

and happy patients make your life much easier!

See, now that you know how they feel, next time we'll

talk about your feelings regarding that X amount

that you got.

The Best Technique for Swimming Kick Sets - Duration: 6:19.

- Kick sets with a snorkel.

Show offs.

Just straightens me out, it brings me upright.

Morning, trainiacs.

I haven't been to the pool in like a week.

This is going to feel quite interesting.

In addition to that, Pat said that this is supposed

to be a rest week, but he was looking at my data

in training peaks and he's like get back in the pool, dude.

I'm all like oh thanks Pat, really appreciate you

signing up for that training peaks

and getting familiar with it.

Oh and looks like we have, yep, yep, yep.

Come on, no orange kick boards.

We've got some fresh meat in the pools.

It's really good, swimmer, but new swimmer,

that is a trainiac, Andrew, who I had to race down

in the Pinawa race.

You remember him, Andrew, Pinawa race, had to race him down?

- I was hoping your biking, running scared.

Wow, this guy made me work for it.

- That guy.

Hey newbie.

400 meter time trial for you today.

(upbeat instrumental music)

Everybody's diving today, show offs.

(upbeat instrumental music)

So interesting thing that we've been getting into lately

is kick sets with a snorkel.

Now Brian, who'd be right there,

is like pure swimmer,

has done triathlons, but mostly swimmer

and he came and he's like hey guys,

you doing all your kick sets without one of these,

basically poking your head out of the water,

so you're like going like that,

and you're basically training your body to have sinky legs.

Not ideal.

So you put one of these on, stick your face in the water,

and you can just make sure that you get that nice,

smooth, level streamline all the way across the water.

So now we're all into it.

Trust a swimmer to teach us how to swim.

Good things happen.

Also have the first dance with these new little beauties

from FINIS, these are the ISO paddles

that I took out of the box a couple days ago.

I tried them, another dude tried them.

We both felt the same resistance like out here

when they're set up for freestyle.

Not bad, alright.

Could be a fan.

(upbeat instrumental music)

I don't know about all you, but when my lower back

starts getting like, just kind of grungy from sitting

in a conference or on an airplane for a long time,

that a swim followed by hanging from the bar

that you always see me doing for a couple minutes,

oh, just straightens me out, it brings me upright,

I feel better.

Like oh that swimming, that linear stuff,

like when you get into the mode of swimming,

it's a breeze and it's easy and you're just going

side to side, nice and level, ooh, it feels good.

Now trainiacs, a few things that you're going to notice

over the next little while,

with us shutting down the office,

trying to make this whole Triathlon Taren thing

more of a full time gig, we're also trying

a fair bit of new gear, like that Go Pro scene, new gear,

new gimble.

Right now, talking to you on whole new vlogging setup.

This Sony RX100 Mark Five.

Trying it out, might take it back,

but the whole idea is that this whole tiny little setup

that you are now, by the way we'll improve the audio

if I keep this, can be just in my pocket,

bring you anywhere.

I don't have to bring this big huge setup.

And with us covering more events like Kona,

we've got to get a lot of gear for that,

and the podcast that I just put out yesterday

covering the highlights of Interbike,

which I'll link in the description below.

We have the audio quality absolutely dialed in,

just dialed in on that one.

I could not get enough of myself in my ear balls.

And you know a fun thing that's happened

as a result of closing down the office

is that Mel and I are just constantly playing this game

of musical bikes, bringing footage from her house

to my house, my house to her house,

dropping stuff off in the morning.

I am vlogging, that's right I am vlogging.

It's fun and all, but I tell you,

by the time winter comes around,

I am not going to want to be doing a 10 minute bike

just to drop stuff off,

so framers of the garage,

if you want to start any time now, be my guest.

Alright trainiacs, I'm out.

Las Vegas high rise condos for sale or rent - Duration: 6:01.

Las Vegas high-rise condos for sale or rent Las Vegas high-rise condos for sale are divided

into two distinct categories, residential towers and condo hotels or condotels.

The main difference is how long units can be rented and how the rental income is divided,

which we will discuss in each project's own page, that you can find in the sidebar.

Additionally Las Vegas residential units have appreciated far more than condotels since

the recovery of 2011.

Locations: While condotels like Palms Place or Signature

at MGM Grand are close to but not on the Las Vegas Strip, residential projects can be divided

to on or off Strip which we show in our interactive Las Vegas high-rise and mid-rise luxury condo

map and a video explaining it.

Condominium towers are shown by star icons and City Center towers by tear drops.

Mid-rise luxury condominium projects are shown with diamonds.

When you click on an icon it will show you the street address, zip code and year built.

Let's talk about the importance of Las Vegas high-rise condo market updates

If you are planning to sell or buy a unit, don't you think that having a good knowledge

of the market is essential to making the right offer or setting the correct asking price?

However, if you Google Las Vegas high-rise condo market, you will quickly find that we

are the only Las Vegas Realtors who are proving with facts and figures that we are in a buyer's

market.

The rest keep talking about a lively market and how condominiums are undervalued.

But as you will see in the Overview of Las Vegas high-rise condo market for 2017 the

median price of condos had been hovering around $320,000 from 2013-2015 before falling to

$280,000 in 2016.

Then, how can they be undervalued?

This lack of knowledge is reflected in many units selling for tens or hundreds of thousands

of dollars less than the asking list price with a lowball offer after languishing on

the market for a long time.

This is due to incorrect pricing which hurts the seller badly.

However, sellers are not without fault as they go for the listing agent who "tells"

them that he can get the highest price without proving it using correct comps.

Even though the market fell by 12.5% in 2016, it doesn't apply to all condo towers, for

example Veer Towers, Metropolis and One Las Vegas actually gained value.

In Las Vegas high-rise condo appreciation rate since recovery of 2011 we have tracked

the median price per square foot of units for each tower since 2011 which is when the

market bottomed out.

Given the variety of condominiums, the best measure for bang for the buck is price per

square foot which we have used in our research.

As you can see the highest appreciating tower is Metropolis at 76.7% median price appreciation

and the lowest were a couple of condo hotels at 11.3%.

Please find the link for the map and market reports in the sidebar.

If you are looking for updated Las Vegas high-rise condos for sale or rent listings we have the

most comprehensive and frequently updated MLS for you and have a MLS search link for

both for sale or rental listings in each tower's page.

Searching for Las Vegas high-rise condos for sale is easy.

All you have to do is to find the tower's name in the drop down menu provided.

However, the same is not true for Las Vegas high-rise condos for rent.

Many projects have had a name change or use a different name than the one registered in

Clark County that the Las Vegas MLS uses.

For example, if you want to rent a unit in Residences in Mandarin Oriental Hotel, you

have to search for the incredibly imaginative name of Resort Condo at Luxury Building or

in the case of The Martin you have to search for Panorama Phase 3.

There are others as well.

This is the reason that we have included a rental link in each project's page.

Keep track of your favorite listings by registering for a property listing manager account and

new listings that match your criteria will be e-mailed to you immediately and you will

be the first to know if there is a price drop on your favorite unit.

Lastly, needless to say Las Vegas High-rise condominium projects are within close proximity

to world class shopping, entertainment and dining.

They also come with full amenities like pool, spa, fitness center, security, etc.

Some offer very nice views and an elevator directly to the units.

However, we are not in the business of advertising for them, our job is to give you information

needed to buy, sell or rent a unit like comprehensive market reports, HOA fees, minimum rental periods

and much more.

If you are looking to buy Las Vegas high-rise condos for sale or having trouble finding

suitable Las Vegas high-rise condos for rent, don't hesitate to call us at 702-478-7800

or contact us, you can find the link below the video along with the video transcript

and the link for the page with the embedded video.

Something Witchy This Way Comes 2: Gothic Horror/Mystery for Halloween - Duration: 14:00.

Even when my father was home,

he was not home in the true sense of the word.

His feelings towards me were not so much governed by sentimentality, as they were by a sense of duty.

I only saw him during mealtimes and even then we seldom spoke of anything

but the foggy Irish weather. My father was a gentleman which meant of course that he had much leisure time.

This time was spent either in his study with book and pipe in hand or on long solitary walks.

He was quite often seen returning

from such a walk and looking

otherworldly, as if he did not recognize either his home or his kin.

Absentmindedly, he would deposit his cloak on the stand near the door and retired to his bed chambers with nary a word. In

short he had no interest in me, nor in my happiness. Indeed, many years later

I came to the conclusion that after he banished my mother and her three sisters from our home

he no longer took an interest in anything.

Meanwhile, I was raised by Tilda and the ferocious father

Mackenzie who preached fire and brimstone from his pulpit at the little stone church in the village.

One Sunday as I was gaily walking,

(Tilda says skipping) out of church after a long sermon about bad women and their place in hell,

Father Mackenzie grabbed me hard by the arm and gave a little twist. "Did you listen to the sermon?" he asked. "I did"

"Have you been to confession lately?"

He knew very well that I had not. He was the only priest in town. "You should come more often,"

he said. "You, especially, need confession given that your mother was a..." Here

he broke off and glared at me with two beady black eyes like that of a crow. "A

what?" I asked. Beside me, Tilda in her

matronly grey dress cleared her throat several times, before briefly locking eyes with the priest.

It was as if a flash of something electric passed between them. Whatever it was Father Mackenzie

immediately discontinued his discourse on my mother and changed topic.

"Of course, there's your uncle," he said a moment later.

"What about him?"

"Mercy child, hasn't anyone told you?" There was another staredown between Tilda

and father McKenzie, and it lasted a good minute or so with neither of them saying a word and me trying in vain to rest

my arm from the priest's strong grip. "They say he murdered a man," he said.

"And what of it?" Tilda's voice broke. "What of it? "It has nothing to do with the child."

Father McKenzie returned her stare before giving me a hard shove in the direction of my governess

"It has everything to do with the child.

She has bad blood. Don't you see? Murder on her father's side the family and everyone knows her mother was a...?"

He never finished the words because Tilda pulled me out of the church so fast, I couldn't hear a thing.

I never found out what he thought my mother was because that nigh my father passed away

and I left my home in the little village with the stone church behind me for good. I

was told-- as the carriage made its way from my father's estate to that of my uncle's in County Cork-- of the

suspicion that had fallen on the man.

"It is a disgraceful matter," Tilde said in the tone of one who did not want to have such a conversation. "I

stared out the window at the passing countryside all tied together in long patches of spreading heather and green wavy grasses.

Briefly the sun poked through the clouds,

and I remembered being six-years-old and being swung by my arms around and around by my mother, my feet not touching the ground.

In my heart. I heard: the skies are full of ravens

The night is full of wrong. The waters are full of fishes and the days are full of song.

It was the words my mother sang as she swung me. She was full of such verses, some she had learned, some she had invented.

Besides being a chanteuse, my mother was quite simply the most beautiful woman in all of Ireland. My father always said so.

Upon their marriage, he built a special walled garden for her where she grew mostly herbs

but also roses, delphinium and other showy cottage flowers that thrived on the rain. In the center of the garden,

underneath a huge oak tree, there was a swing my father had fashioned for her.

Occasionally, I would spy them hiding behind

the blooms of the ever spreading

beauty bush.

It was a monster of a thing, 15 feet high and equally long.

My father would push my mother on the swing and she would laugh with happiness.

Just as I had done when she had sang to me.

"You know, that song is so untrue," my mother had declared on that particular day,

glaring up at me from the most ignoble of chairs, an oak stump belonging to a long dead Rowan tree.

She looked at me with smiling eyes. "The best things happen at night. Power comes to our kind at night. Someday

you will understand the night is full of wrongs,

But we put were put on this earth to set them right.

And by 'we', I always understood her to mean she and I were put on this earth to make things right.

So now as the carriage went along the road, raising dust as the horses turned up the earth,

I thought that whatever it was that was wrong with my uncle, Perhaps I could remedy the problem.

"He was the one who cast a bad name on your family, not your mother, no matter how many say otherwise, "Tilda said matter-of-factly.

"Staring down at her bone thin hands, it took a while for the rest of the story to come forth from her pale lips.

But here's what I soon learned my uncle. He was accused of a murder,

but there had never been enough evidence to bring him to trial. It was said that he owed much money.

Especially to one man, a Walter Cumber who had been found dead in my uncle's house.

Tilda said my father had explained this to her when she first came to work at our estate,

lest she hear it from the gossips in the village.

"There were letters sent about the matter to your father,"

she told me. Although exactly what they said I do not know. Here Tilda stole a glance at her shoes,

a curious gesture on her part,

and one which led me to believe she knew more to the story than she was saying.

Tilda may have been many things, but I knew that for her telling even the smallest of half-truths would make her feel like a liar.

And Tilda was no liar. I did not press her further about the matter, at least not at that time.

After several days journey to the South, with the occasional stopover at an inn here or there, and

after crossing through thick woods of the type I had never known in Ireland, we reached my uncle's estate.

I found my uncle Reginald McMurray a gay and

extravagant sort. It was not hard to imagine that so flamboyant a man might be addicted to gaming.

From the state of his house

which looked as if it could use with a great deal of

renovation work, as plaster fell from ceilings and stone stairs melted away from the wear and tear of time,

it did seem that my uncle was in possession of a ruined fortune. Despite this,

he was extravagantly turned out in fine clothes, wearing smoking jackets in deep scarlet and riding boots that appeared brand-new.

I also learned that careful attention to his dress was due to his vain, pompous and overly self-assured nature.

"He can no longer afford the finer gambling establishments," Tilda whispered to me a fortnight after we arrived.

""That's why you always see so many unsavory characters about the place. He brings them here to play cards."

I thought this over as I slipped between the sheets of my shabby bed. The room

I had been allotted was a spacious affair with splashy peacock print wallpaper that had aged poorly. At

night in the dark, the circles on the tails of those peacocks appeared in the darkness like a million eyes--

watching my every move. "I

Have noticed. He is often in the company of Mr. Hugh Turlington,"

I replied to Tilda who was going about my room with the candle in a wood holder in one hand and picking up

my clothes with the other. I

did not know then, but I was about to suffer yet another misfortune. In

accordance with God's wishes, it was not enough that I'd lost my father and my home. I would soon lose again.

You see my hours with Tilda were sorely

limited. Only I was too young and too naive to have any idea that she would soon be taken from me --

just like my mother. "In

the village they say Mr. Turlington is a man of loose morals and low habits.

They say he has considerable wealth yes, but that he spends it on many vices,"

Tilda told me. "They also say he frequently traveled with your uncle on the continent."

With that rather ominous bit of news, Tilda bade me

goodnight, and left me alone to retire to her room in the servants' quarters.

Over the next few days my uncle and Mr.

Turlington proceeded to shut themselves away in a private room for most of the day and also a good part of the night. I

did not mind. I was happy spending my days with my cousin Ann. In

general we went for long walks around Frederick. Which was the name of my uncle's estate.

Despite its state of dilapidation. It was an imposing house at the end of a long avenue of venerable ancient trees.

For some reason on every walk, I would remember with a shiver that first ride up the avenue to Reddrick

Not knowing what to expect,

I remember glancing about me at the road which was overgrown with nettles and grass and

passing by what must have been at one time two fishing ponds

which were now nothing more than stagnant waters brimming with moss and rank weeds.

My first glimpse of the actual house had been immediately

unfavorable it stood at the summit of the avenue.

Made of a dark grey stone and pressed in on all sides by trees which badly needed trimming, it

was a rather long rectangular affair that seemed to jet up from its place on the summit with solemnity and

permanency, as if it had been here since antiquity. As our coach arrived closer,

I found the whole place worn down and ruinous, almost to the point of looking deserted. Yet

it was not. For here lived my uncle, his daughter and his son.

When Tilda saw Reddrick for the first time she did something most curious.

She drew the sign of a pentagram on the floor of our carriage with the toe of her pointy boot.

This was something I had seen her do on rare occasions. Had I been anyone else

she would have made the sign of the cross. But in front of me,

it was always this symbol of superstition. On

that night, when the moon had risen full and high, our carriage entered a courtyard via the castle's old stone gate.

Here, too, were signs of disrepair. The courtyard was overgrown with numerous weeds and the cobblestones were broken and rough.

Somewhere in the night some poor chain gave out a piteous wail of the bark and

alerted two dirty, slovenly men who seemed to fit in quite well with the ruinous estate of Reddrick. The men took charge of the

horses

and we were ushered into a gloomy chamber only to be received by no one.

This situation was soon remedied when a pink-cheeked, young girl dashed in the hall and kissed me on my cheek,

declaring herself to might be my cousin.

"Dear, dear Tellehandra, how happy we are that you have come.

Oh, but not to worry, my father is about the place somewhere. Indeed, as I learned later, he was off playing cards with Mr.

Turlington. "And my brother James is not often at home. He travels a lot, you know."

My cousin was so genuinely pleased with my arrival that she seemed to beam from head to toe and I found myself

immediately at ease with her,

although Tilda glared at her steadily with her one good eye.

"Come, you must be exhausted. I shall show you to your room," she announced with much frivolity.

We then mounted the decaying steps to the rooms with the peacock paper.

The only good thing about the apartment was that it had two doors: one which opened onto the hallway and one which opened on to

my cousin's room, so that she was never too far away.

It was not long after I first arrived that the three of us, my uncle Reginald, Ann and myself --

along with Tilda-- sat down to dinner.

Where my uncle's partner in gambling was that night, I do not know. Uncle Reginald strode into the room with much dignity and

initially appeared to me as a striking man.

He was tall and wore a shirt replete with creamy tatted lace ruffles down the middle. Other than the shirt

he wore dark colors that matched his sober appearance and like my father

he said very little to me. The second night, however, our dinner conversation was more in depth.

"So you have come to us, and you are most welcome, but tell me my dear. What is your understanding of your father's will?"

God's nightgown! Who asks such a question?

I was struck silent which Tilda will tell you is no trifle affair.

"Everything is left to me and my heirs," I replied. "Yes,"

my uncle replied and he dabbed at the corners of his mouth with a napkin

that was threadbare. "And if you should die without an heir?"

I can't tell you of the immediate distress this caused me. A tingle of dread ran down my spine.

It was not a question of polite society

Beside me, Ann cried: "Father must we talk about such things?"

It was Tilda

who responded as she helped serve the main course. "If she dies without an heir, everything goes to you Mr.

McMurray. Her words were clipped and curt and directed at my uncle like the blades of a dagger.

Tilda then proceeded to place a pile of lumpy brown mush that she swore had once been a quail onto my plate.

I had no appetite and spent the rest of the evening pushing the food around with my fork.

As if the dinner discourse had not been distressing enough, that night I was awoken by a most unnatural noise.

It sounded like a quarrel of some type was taking shape in the apartments below.

There was a parlor there and from that room the voices rose loud and louder until there was a strange sound. A loud

banging noise of something metallic reverberating after striking something hard, a wall perhaps. In my drowsy state

I imagined my uncle had struck at the wall of the castle was something like a shovel, but why would he do such a thing?

Quarterly Meeting: Agenda for September 2017 - Duration: 11:30.

VTDDC Quarterly Meeting Agenda for September 28, 2017 Middlebury, Vermont

Hi council members. In our quest for greater accessibility we're trying something today, which is

reviewing the agenda in advance of our meeting on a video, so you can get yourself prepared for our meeting on Thursday in Middlebury.

I'm just going through the agenda and you may want to have yours in front of you while you listen.

The meeting will start at 9:00am (promptly, our president likes to start on time).

We'll begin with a welcome and with people introducing themselves.

We're going to have three new members at the meeting – Hannah Neff is a new member who is not able to attend (she'll join us in December).

1. Self-advocate, Kaiya Andrews, from Waterbury. 2. Parent, Steve Kieselstein, from Burlington. 3. Parent, Gina Carrera, from Essex (who is a LEND and Leadership graduate)

That should take us about fifteen (15) minutes, and then we'll read "What helps at meetings", assign roles, and

accept the minutes from June 22nd (it's very helpful to read the minutes or have someone go over them with you).

At 9:30am I'm going to give a short report. I'll be updating you on the money we will be getting from the federal government for the next fiscal year.

It looks to be pretty solid. I'll be talking to you about a visit I made to Washington with a team of Vermonters

to learn about cultural and linguistic competency and how we can use that in all of our programs.

And I'll also check in about this video and see how whether it was helpful to you.

Then we'll have to do the heavy lifting.

We're going to do the financial report next. This is the meeting where we have to have our members adopt a budget for the federal fiscal year 2018.

I'm going to walk everyone through a budget for about half a million dollars, tell you what we're taking in

for money, and the categories where we're taking money out. I'll ask if you have any questions.

Then we'll take a short break so that you can check in if you're still wondering how you want to vote.

Then we'll ask you to vote to adopt the budget or not adopt it as presented.

This is one of the most important things a council does in terms of setting the stage for each year.

You get to decide how the money gets used.

At 10:15am we will have guests visiting us to tell us what they've been doing with the investments

you've made. Karen Topper and Max Barrows from Green Mountain Self-Advocates will be talking about

the work they've done through their nine (9) month self-advocacy grant (which is about to finish up).

We will be hearing from Green Mountain Self-Advocates and Nancy Breiden of the Disability Law Project about

the work that they've done in the North-east Kingdom working on alternatives to full guardianship.

They will present to us the court-piece of the project, as well as what they've been doing in schools.

You will get a ten (10) minute break, which you will have earned.

One more piece of business before lunch – part one (1) of our Program Committee.

I'll start off by reviewing where we're at in our Five-Year Plan and remind you our investments and they're status.

Then we'll ask you to consider re-funding Green Mountain Self-Advocates at the same level we did last

year. I want to remind you that it is a statutory federal requirement to support a self-advocacy organization.

So, this is a little different then some of the other grants that we do because this one has a special requirement.

And you'll be in a good position to make a decision on if you want to make that investment again.

We'll take a five (5) minute break to make sure you know what you're voting on, and then vote to award the

$60,000 grant. Then we get to have lunch (which will be sandwiches) for about an hour.

We're still trying to figure out which legislators are coming so that we have folks to chat with.

At 1:00pm we go back into session and the Program Committee as a few more things to ask you about.

First, our Executive Committee has looked at Goal one (1). Goal one (1) aims to impact underserved

communities – that's mostly in the North-east Kingdom and those southern counties, and parts of the state that experience a lot of poverty.

We think the goal may be too narrow. One of the lesson we've learned is that we need to impact more than

one set of issues to make a difference. Our Executive Committee will suggest wording changes to the

way we've crafted Goal one (1). They're not huge changes. We want to add the idea that we could be

working with schools and that education is an area we want to impact. That's laying the ground work for

new Requests-for-Proposals. This will be the last vote item of the day.

We had a presentation during our June meeting in Lake Morey. Folks from the Vermont Family Network

had been working in Windham County. They had learned that families were struggling with working with

their schools in that part of the state, and getting special education services for kids.

As we begin to talk about what we can do to address that, Kay Stambler suggested we get a better

understanding of the laws and better access to legal advice for families in the southern part of the state.

Kay will present, and express that's what they had to do in Chittenden. We'll be putting out a proposal to ask

some of the disability lawyers to bid on the possibility of hosting legal workshops (similar to what's been done at

Voices and Choices, where individuals were met with about guardianship issues).

We'll have a presentation at the beginning, and then a chance for families to meet with an attorney.

This has two benefits: 1. The family learns what their rights are. 2. Our friends in Legal Aid learn where there are families who may have potential court cases.

We'll present about that and you'll decide if that's a worthy request to put out as a follow-up to the work we

did through a SEEDS grant last year. We'll take a ten (10) minute break...

…because we'll have two votes: 1. The change to Goal one (1). 2. The Request-for-Proposal.

And then you'll have earned another ten (10) minute break just to relax.

At about 2:00pm we'll hear from the Policy Committee. They'll talk about what they've been doing and

how they've been networking with rights and democracy, indivisible blue, and others who work on

rights issues. Then we will hear from one of our Government Agencies.

Betsy Choquette from Vocational Rehabilitation is doing now that they've had to live with

some pretty significant cuts to their program. We'll be ready for public comment after that.

At 3:00pm we'll adjourn and send everyone home.

I look forward to seeing everybody Thursday in Middlebury. Thank you.

Michael's Storytime Episode 5: "And Tango Makes Three" | Stories for Kids - Duration: 11:33.

What a special day today

to be together just us two

and what a lovely day

to visit in that's true.

And I'm fairly certain

that you'll agree

that we're quite wonderful company.

I welcome you to stay

and sing and say

let's be together today!

Hello to you, story friend.

I'm glad to be with you.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about

penguins and families.

In fact, I have a book here that talks about

that very thing. It's called:

"And Tango Makes Three"

See the baby penguin there

isn't she beautiful?

Well, why don't we just think more about

penguins and families and baby penguins

as we enjoy our storytime?

"And Tango Makes Three"

by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell

illustrated by Henry Cole

In the middle of New York City

there is a great big park called Central Park.

Children love to play there.

It has a toy-boat pond where they can sail their boats.

It has a carousel to ride on in the summer

and an ice rink to skate on in the winter.

Best of all, it has it's very own zoo.

Every day families of all kinds go to

visit the animals that live there.

But children and their parents aren't the

only families at the zoo.

The animals make families of their own.

There are red panda bear families,

with mothers and fathers

and furry red panda bear cubs.

There are monkey dads and monkey moms

raising noisy monkey babies.

There are toad families, and toucan families,

and cotton-top tamarin families too.

And in the penguin house

there are penguin families.

Every year at the same time,

the girl penguins start to notice the boy penguins.

And the boy penguins start noticing the girls.

When the right girl and the right boy find each other,

they become a couple.

Two penguins in the penguin house

were a little bit different.

One was named Roy,

and the other was named Silo.

Roy and Silo were both boys.

But they did everything together.

They bowed to each other.

And walk together.

They sang to each other.

And swam together.

Wherever Roy went, Silo went too.

They didn't spend much time

with the girl penguins,

and the girl penguins

didn't spend much time with them.

Instead, Roy and Silo wound their necks

around each other.

Their keeper Mr. Grazay noticed the two

penguins and thought to himself,

"They must be in love."

Roy and Silo watched how the other

penguins made a home.

So they built a nest of stones for themselves.

Every night Roy and Silo slept there together,

just like the other penguin couples.

And every morning Roy and Silo woke up together.

But one day Roy and Silo saw that the

other couples could do something they

could not.

The mama penguin would lay an egg.

She and the papa penguin would take

turns keeping the egg warm

until finally,

it would hatch.

And then there would be a baby penguin.

Roy and Silo had no egg to sit on

and keep warm.

They had no baby chick to feed

and cuddle and love.

Their nest was nice,

but it was a little empty.

One day Roy found something that looked

like what the other penguins were

hatching and he brought it to their nest.

It was only a rock,

but Silo carefully sat on it.

And sat...

And sat.

When Silo got sleepy, he slept.

And when Silo was done sleeping and sitting,

he swam and Roy sat.

Day after day Silo and Roy sat on the rock.

But nothing happened.

Then Mr. Gramzay got an idea.

He found an egg that needed to be cared for,

and he brought it to Roy and Silo's nest.

Roy and Silo knew just what to do.

They moved the egg to the center of their nest.

Every day they turned it,

so each side stayed warm.

Some days Roy sat while Silo went for food.

Other days it was Silo's turn to take care of their egg.

He sat in the morning,

and they sat at night.

They sat through lunchtime and swim time

and supper.

They sat at the beginning of the month,

and they sat at the end of the month,

and they sat all of the days in between.

Until one day

they heard a sound coming from inside their egg.

Peep, peep. Peep, peep, it said.

Roy and Silo called back, squawk, squawk.

Peep, peep, answered the egg.

Suddenly a tiny hole appeared in the egg's shell.

And then...

CRAAAACK!

Out came their very own, baby!

She had fuzzy white feathers

and a funny black beak.

Now Roy and Silo were fathers.

"We'll call her Tango," Mr. Gramzay decided,

"because it takes two to make a Tango."

Roy and Silo taught Tango

how to sing for them

when she was hungry.

They fed her food from their beaks.

They snuggled her in their nest at night.

Tango was the very first penguin in the zoo

to have two daddies.

Soon Tango grew strong enough to leave the nest.

Roy and Silo took her for a swim,

just like all the other penguin families.

And all the children who came to the zoo

could see Tango and her two fathers

playing in the penguin house with the

other penguins.

"Hooray, Roy!"

"Hooray, Silo!"

"Welcome, Tango!" they cheered.

At night the three penguins returned to their nest.

There they snuggled together and like all

the other penguins in the penguin house,

and all the other animals in the zoo,

and all the families in the big city around them,

they went to sleep.

There are lots of different families

in this big world of ours.

But you know, some children don't live

with their mom and dad.

Some children live with just their mother.

Some children live with just their father

or a grandparent

or an aunt or uncle.

Or often times, they might live with

someone who isn't related to them at all.

But they can sure care a lot about them.

And that's what really matters.

That we do our best to care for each other

no matter who we are.

I know I feel that way about you.

In fact, I even like to sing about it.

I love and approve of you

just exactly as you are.

I wished for someone like you

on the brightest

evening star.

There's nobody else

like you

and there never will be again.

As long as there's love in my heart

there'll always be room for my

friend!

And that's true.

I love and approve of you

just exactly as you are.

And I enjoy being with you so much,

but for now...

It's time

to sing

so long, farewell

till our next storytime

when I will be with you again.

It's time to go

till our next

hello!

Till next time

from me

to you!

There isn't anything you can do

or think

or wish

or have

that could make you more valuable

than you are right now.

And I like being with you

I'll be back next time.

Bye for now!
