Valley a better place to live.
Non-profits need volunteers
EVERY
DAY: For everything from
tutoring kids... To
cleaning up vacant properties.
But it can be overwhelming to
try and pick one place to
donate your time.
Now... A new app JUST FOR OUR
AREA... Makes it a whole lot
easier.
[C3]20170328 LOVE THIS PLACE
AM-PK
TRT 2:07 If the Youngstown
Neighborhood
Development Corporation is doing
work on a neighborhood...
You can bet Tiffany Sokol will
be there. TIFFANY SOKOL:
1.02.31-1.02.40 THERE IS SO MUCH
WORK TO BE DONE
IN THIS COMMUNITY. AND WE REALLY
CAN'T GET IT ALL DONE
WITHOUT HAVING VOLUNTEERS
INVOLVED IN WHAT WE'RE DOING.
She's the housing director for
YNDC. SHE'S not afraid to get
her hands dirty.
And she needs volunteers who
will do the same.
TIFFANY: 1.03.40-1.03.44 IT'S SO
IMPORTANT TO HAVE VOLUNTEERS
THAT ARE PASSIONATE
ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE DOING. That's
why Tiffany says she's so
excited
about a NEW APP that's launching
this week.
It connects volunteers with
nonprofits in Youngstown that
NEED THEIR HELP.
It's called Love This Place.
TIFFANY:
1.03.28-1.03.40 IT MATCHES
PEOPLE WITH
THEIR INTERESTS. SO YOU'RE GONNA
GET CONNECTED WITH VOLUNTEER
OPPORTUNITIES THAT YOU MAY NOT
HAVE KNOWN EXISTED. THAT
REALLY FIT with WHAT YOU'RE
PASSIONATE ABOUT.
JOE VARACALLI: 51.05-51.13 MOST
PEOPLE WE'VE TALKED TO HAVE
CONSIDERED VOLUNTEERING. THEY
LIKE VOLUNTEERING. BUT THEY JUST
DON'T KNOW HOW TO START. Joe
Varacalli is the director of
Love This
Place. He says you can think of
it as a dating app...
For volunteering. You fill in
your interests.
Then when a volunteer
opportunity comes up that
matches it... It alerts
you. JOE: 51.13-51.18 WE WANT TO
MAKE THAT AS EASY AS
POSSIBLE TO GET PEOPLE PLUGGED
IN. RICK BLAIR: 56.37-56.46
I THINK THAT IT'S INCREDIBLY
IMPORTANT TO DEVOTE OUR
ENERGIES TO OUR COMMUNITY. WE
LIVE IN THIS PLACE.
Rick Blair is the director of
outreach for Love This Place.
He says a lot of people WANT to
volunteer... Taking that first
step can be
hard. We get stuck in the
details.
RICK: 57.20-57.32 IF WE DON'T
KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN WE JUST
FREEZE AND DON'T START. I HAVE A
MESSY BASEMENT AND IT'S
OVERWHELMING. AND I DON'T KNOW
WHERE TO START. SO I'LL NEVER
START.
But Love This Place solves that
problem. With the tap of your
finger...
And about three minutes to sign
up... YOU can start giving
back... And making
THIS PLACE... A place you love
even more.
TIFFANY: 1.06.09-1.06.21 I THINK
THERE'S A GREAT SENSE OF
SATISFACTION IN BEING ABLE TO
PHYSICALLY SEE A CHANGE IN OUR
COMMUNITY FROM THE WORK OF
YOUR OWN HANDS. AND THIS APP IS
PROVIDING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR
MORE PEOPLE TO GET INVOLVED AND
DO THAT.
The website is up and running
RIGHT NOW... so VOLUNTEERS and
ORGANIZATIONS can go ahead and
sign up.
We've posted a link over on our
website: WKBN dot com.
The APP launches THIS
THURSDAY... Downtown at the
Tyler History Center.
Love This Place is holding an
OPEN HOUSE... FROM 5 UNTIL 7...
With food, drinks and prizes for
people who sign up. Mayor John
McNally will be speaking...
Along with Jim Cossler from the
Youngstown Business Incubator.
It's free... [C5]6AM TZ 3A
