Welcome back to Psych-Minded. I'm your host Kalley Marie and today we're gonna

be talking about the difference between covert narcissism and overt narcissism.

Welcome back to Psych-Minded! If you haven't yet subscribed, please hit the

subscribe button so you'll never miss a video on Mental Health and psychology.

If you are a new subscriber, thank you so much for being here. There have

been so many of you that have joined me in the last couple months and it has

been absolutely overwhelming. I am so happy to have you here. I hope you enjoy

what you are seeing. If you have any video requests please let me know in the

comments, on Instagram -- you know where to find me.

I love taking your video requests so please don't be shy and don't hesitate

to ask me if there's a specific subject you want to know more about. Today we're

gonna be talking about narcissism and specifically the difference between overt

narcissism and covert narcissism. Before we dive into this, I want to clarify -- when

we talk about narcissism, it can get a little tricky because we can have people

that have narcissistic tendencies but then we also have people that have the

narcissistic personality disorders. So just because somebody exhibits

narcissistic tendencies doesn't necessarily mean that they have a

full-blown personality disorder. When we talk about overt versus covert

narcissism today, I want you to keep that in mind. This can apply to either

somebody who has the trait or somebody who has the disorder. Hopefully it

will make more sense as we go along but first we're just gonna dive into what a

narcissist is. According to the DSM-5, narcissistic

personality disorder is characterized as a grandiose sense of self. The individual

is preoccupied with their ideals and their values and themselves. They believe

that they are the number one, end-all be-all. They are essentially never wrong

in their views and generally believe that they are the best. They can lack

empathy and believe that they deserve an excessive amount of admiration. That's

sort of one end of the spectrum of a narcissistic personality disorder where

we can see there's a lot of factors going on that are contributing to the

personality disorder. When it comes to just the trait of narcissism we do

see that in narcissistic personality disorder but we also know people

that can just be narcissistic without necessarily having a disorder. So we're

gonna go into what those different types are. The first one we're gonna talk

about is an overt narcissist and an overt narcissist is the one that we typically

see as being the stereotypical narcissist. They're very forward

and extroverted about how they feel about themselves. They make no shame in

trying to hide what they feel about themselves and that they believe that

they deserve this sort of pedestal treatment. An overt narcissist isn't

gonna make any attempts to try to hide or keep their feelings about themselves

a secret. They truly believe there are the best and they let everyone know it.

The other type is a covert narcissist. This is the type of

narcissism that sometimes is difficult to recognize. This is the more secretive

or introverted -- basically hidden sort of narcissism. We're gonna dive a

little bit more into what covert narcissism is because I think a lot of

us are pretty good at identifying when people are over narcissist

but the covert is a little

bit more difficult to detect. I'm gonna dive into some research I found

and some of my own thoughts on what covert narcissism is all about.

Individuals with covert narcissism tend to be more introverted like I mentioned.

They're still pretty proud and argumentative and defensive but they

tend to keep their feelings about themselves a little bit under the

surface; a little bit closer to the belt. They come across more passive-aggressive

and have a lower sense of self-worth than somebody with overt narcissism.

In a lot of ways a covert narcissist is still very much all about their own ego

but it's in a negative way. It's not in a "I'm amazing.. I'm grand...

I am perfect," kind of way. It's sort of an inflated sense of self surrounding these

negative attributes that they feel about themselves. So they're still inflating

their ego but they're doing so in sort of a negative

kind of way.Someone with covert narcissism may play the victim to

get attention. That's one of the key characteristics that they found with

this. Someone with overt narcissism might try to go for class

president or another role that's really in the spotlight. Whereas somebody with

covert narcissism is going to do something a little bit different to try

to get that same attention. What are some of the myths about covert

narcissism? Covert narcissism does not necessarily mean that somebody is

sneakier or more manipulative than someone with overt narcissism nor does

it mean that they're better at hiding their narcissistic behaviors. This is

just a way that the narcissism is presented. It has to do with how these

tendencies in this individual whether they have narcissistic personality

disorder or they just have narcissistic traits -- it's sort of how they manifest

themselves. Just like with any other trait if someone feels jealous or they

feel an intense amount of depression, those are going to manifest differently

for different people. They found with narcissism it sort of comes about in one

of these two ways either you have somebody who is playing the grandiose

role or you have someone who's playing the victim to get attention.

Someone with covert narcissism may also have these grandiose aspirations for

themselves or believe that they should be put on pedestals but they're just too

shy to navigate it. They're not really sure how to meet their goals or how to put

themselves out there. So whether an individual has narcissistic personality

disorder or is simply narcissistic you may see their narcissism manifest in one

of these two ways. I wanted to point out the difference because mental

illness can manifest in a lot of different ways for different people and

if we're struggling in ourselves to kind of figure out what's going on or looking

at someone else and trying to help them, this can be really helpful to know that

there are variations within narcissism or within traits that we find within

ourselves. What do you think about overt in covert narcissism? Let me know in the

comments below. Don't forget to subscribe and like this video!

I will see you guys next time

BYE! :)

Black Girl Claims "I'm White" and Why Dr. Phil is to Blame - Duration: 22:17.

you ever watch dr. Phil I try not to but I have yes what's what's your beef with

dr. Phil cuz I got some issues too I think that dr. Phil is like the complete

opposite of good for people ID when you're a doctor you take the Hippocratic

oath or whatever that you will do no harm and I think that's exactly what

he's doing every day but I don't like about dr. good so we immediately agree

on to a degree on this issue yeah so dr. Phil had this this young woman a

16 year old girl named treasure treasure of course 16 year old girl named

treasure on her on his show and she is a black girl claiming to be a white girl

and I got a little promo for it just so I can catch you up to it because this

story is nuts and like it kind of blew up on the internet as dr. Phil thing

subjects can do right at times she she identifies as white yeah I guess you

could say that okay but if you know I feel like it goes beyond that but let's

let's listen to her I know a lot of people take issue with my beliefs

I'm white I'm a Caucasian because everything about me is different from an

african-american I have naturally straight hair my hair isn't nappy it

doesn't require weave my nose is not giant with like african-americans my

lips aren't perfect they're not too big and they're not too small like they're

just perfect my ears I don't have black people ears because they're really giant

most African Americans speak I don't get oh well when it comes to black people I

think they're all ugly and have nothing in common with them I'm different from

African Americans because I'm white my figure is just like Kim Kardashian and

she's a wonderful role model I act and I think like a white person

instead of a black person's I believe that I'm completely and utterly better

than them like we're all two different like yes okay all right promos about to

me I don't want to even like give that any more airtime at all that it's pretty

insane it's awful what an awful here's my here's my

problem with it it gets worse - but it's that is that is that our new slogan I

feel like that's what it's got it gets better it gets better know the story

definitely gets better however I want to add that uh what I didn't get clips of

but these clips definitely exist she talks about how she's got the KKK on

speed dial he says things like white power she really really goes into like

this this little promo doesn't even do it justice this is what I really don't

like about this is it it's it screams fake yeah

it screams fake yes which the fact that it's fake means that someone wrote it

someone came up with the concept and wrote it and that person that I have an

issue with because like that's the most racist thing ever like wouldn't it be

cool if we could somebody who's black just be gracious it gives your own and

then they can say all the things that we kind of really think already but we'll

be saying it to an impressionable black girl who maybe needs the money so they

do anything to be on TV right and then we'll get to say these

things on TV for ratings that is awful and you're calling yourself a doctor

like dr. Phil's calling himself a doctor I wish we would just get head-butted in

his big fat skull so you think someone on the dr. Phil show wrote that for some

actress to come in and say yeah some person to come in you could tell she's

reading she could tell she's not you could tell she's speaking off some sort

of teleprompter or lines or something like that like it's so scripted it does

feel scripted I think she wrote it I mean I think I think she wrote so this

is my issue with it I think she wrote it or improvised it or whatever and is

using that to get on the dr. Phil show now on one hand she's being a sixteen

year old girl and sixteen year olds do stupid stuff all

Time stuff way worse than this like she's trying to get attention my problem

is that dr. Phil and his producers either didn't spot it or spotted it and

didn't care like they knew it was fake so let's pretend it's not fake and just

go oh yeah this this girl has a severe identity crisis yeah and then kind of

disorder they're exploiting it right so they're gonna let her get on TV and act

crazy first so they can see like ratings yeah and that that's daytime television

for you god Bless America and then people are like don't you don't know

what it's America cuz daytime TV it's like and but you see the interactions

that they have like with her mom when she comes on as I watched a clip okay

they watch it the her mom comes on later and and they have these interactions and

they're clearly scripted interactions like that's not how normal people talk

they're like it's like sounds like a soap opera which means someone wrote

these interactions and plan them and pre-planned them and when you write

things for television you heighten yeah that's what you do you heighten things

and you make it as bad as possible and so now they're just they're profiting

from racism put on that show basically yeah yeah and and and then and then

looping it around and and packaging it as a help show like we're here to help

you right but let me that's like giving you

cancer and then making you pay for the cure America well do you remember when I

said my issue with TV doctors is that ratings is a is a factor

mm-hmm in sort of what they do yeah that's my issue with dr. Phil and really

any any physician or any expert that goes on TV because at some point you may

have to put ratings over the well-being of your client even if you have to

consider the ratings it's a conflict of interest yeah agree it's completely

backwards from what you're supposed to do right and let's pretend this girl

really does have a problem or any of these people who go on dr. Phil have a

problem so I'm sure some of them go someone go on there and they have some

kind of issue or whatever so they go on and there are these lights and these the

these can't these cameras on you and your

in this sort of faux therapy session and you know how therapy works therapy works

is you have a therapist in front of you and you build a relationship with them

and you have trust and you tell them things that you either couldn't tell

other people or you tell them in ways that you couldn't tell other people

that's where the trust comes in that's where the therapy helps but in this

setting you've got all of these other people watching you so you're not gonna

you're not gonna say the same things that you would say if you were in

private plus dr. Phil is dr. Phil and you're talking to a celebrity yeah so if

a celebrity comes up to you and and make some kind of suggestive comment like a

Lloyd you're uh you're kind of a bad guy sometimes huh I didn't think I was but I

guess cuz dr. Phil told me I am right because he's a celebrity has power in

all of his audiences they're watching you yeah and they're all making this

judgment along with him and you go oh yeah I guess I guess I am kind of a pure

bad guy sometimes yeah it's like peer pressure where is if you're in a private

therapy setting first of all your therapist is never gonna say that second

of all if you're in private you might go wait a minute I'm not a bad guy they're

supposed to be objective that's the idea right especially when it's a therapist I

don't know what kind of doctor I think he's supposed to be like an MD right he

is not a physician and he his license for therapy expired decades ago talked

referral so he has a PhD in clinical psychology but he's not allowed to

prescribe and he's not allowed to do actual therapy sure I'll just what I'll

do is I'll just go on TV and do my therapy are on firm the TV tubes don't

feel I don't well we can get into treasure in a second but I don't like

Phil because I don't like that some of his advice is like to laymen and

straightforward to be practical by any means by any measure of the word therapy

dr. Phil will be like so uh so uh if you're if you don't like the fact that

you're adopted well then you just need to stop being adopted yeah just knock it

off no go real just quit I think our dr. Phil impressions are on

other side different sides of the spectrum but I approximately both you

know I'm not I'm not super good at dr. Phil impressions let me show okay so

after the show ended treasure obviously she's

getting all of this attention now because of this crazy video she gets

online she makes some videos of herself that's why I think it's not the dr. Phil

show behind the writing of it oh maybe she wrote it in me I mean I'm sure they

received thousands of letters of potential stories and that's how they

farm the stories yeah so maybe her mom or maybe she wrote it in but I guarantee

you the letter that got written or the email that got written is not the same

as the situation that they portray on the tell of course of course

so that's bad but look just like what you're saying is yeah exactly that's bad

TV just like what you're saying is after the TV show now you've brought the level

up to here so even if what she was doing at the beginning seemed outrageous

once they heightened it she's like well I I just did this on national television

so I might as well just keep the KKK on speed dial

yeah well check this out so this is her this is her own she's doing like a QA I

think maybe through Instagram Live or something like that but let's check this

out hello everyone I'm doing a Q&A my name is treasure let's get this bad boy

started first question what's one thing you could change in the world if you

could well one thing I really would change is the fact that women have the

right to vote I don't feel like that's kind of necessary cuz we don't the

opinions don't really matter that much but you know that's totally an attitude

it's totally in it how does dr. WWE man how do they I gotta turn it off so you

get the gist of it like you're right she's heightening it he's the heal she

gets off camera and she's like okay what else what else crazy stuff can I say Oh

women women right to vote yeah she's actually a fairly sharp girl in what

she's doing I'm sure she's very self-aware she knew to take it to like

women the women voting yeah angle and not keep up with the race angle but also

if you're if you're a TBI if you're a doctor a TV doctor a psychologist a

therapist a position or even producers who work on that show how do you not

spot that way and how do you not go yeah this girl's full of shit they dude spot

it and they go yeah bring her in this is great because we need the ratings this

is daytime television I'm just so I just wonder like Oprah is

supposed to be this like high in my tea like like such an open liberated

powerful intelligent woman and she continually backs this guy I know you

know and honestly maybe info Zack can check on what's the relationship the

current relationship between dr. Phil and Oprah but I can't homies I can't

take her seriously if she backs this guy out I can and just FYI that used to be

Oprah's game man Oprah used to be like it's not my baby

and all that shit she dates on TV and grew out of it and moved away from it

but that was that was like those were the minor-league days of The Oprah

Winfrey Show well I mean I love Oprah as much as everyone else does she's

national treasure for God's sake sir yeah but she does have a habit of

pushing bullshit onto the populous I mean she was the driving force behind

you know Rhonda burns the secret right how many people believe I never even the

secret I didn't envision it and you can have it oh right that kind of thing just

will it to be will it to be with or in your will it from your couch with a lap

full of Doritos yeah so if you remember exactly so if you remember you remember

the cash me outside girl that I showed yeah yeah we're on tour yeah yeah so

that girl was uh was me that all seemed legit she legitimately had a problem

with her mom she legitimately called people out in the audience to go outside

and fight her 13-year old ass and that was dr. Phil that was on dr. Phil she

went on to have from that she was able to leverage that and go on and have a

successful rap career because we live in 2018 where we reward bad behavior that's

where this girl's coming from right exactly that's this girl's gold 100%

maybe not to have a rap career but to do the exact same thing as the cash me

outside girl did which was go on you know basically troll on TV and then make

a career out of trolling or at least like a flash in the pan a little bit of

money right there yeah dude it just I can't believe how much it reminds me of

wrestling but I just really want the hero that's the problem it's just all

heal it's like a bad loaf of bread it's just all heal heal no bread moldy yeah

and where's the national hero I guess they probably do they bring the guy who

like pulls the Koff the toddler when like you know the

adrenaline rush he's like a 90 pound kid and he pulls the truck off a toddler

yeah but that guy doesn't get a whole show no egg where's that guy's rap

career yeah it doesn't happen yeah right it

doesn't happen he's yeah that's so hot under a truck I lift up the truck it

caught on to the truck I got wheels JA huh what do you got we gotta think yeah

I mean close according to closer weekly which I don't know how much they have

but they're still friends I figured oh so see Oprah's not gonna publicly beef

with anyone yeah so Ivan Steadman played backgammon

exactly exactly so treasures older sister actually went on Instagram live

made a video now she's involved is her name map yeah exactly

oh wait she's the older sitter so maybe her name is hidden no her name's booty

oh gosh yes cuz you know there's yeah cuz they're their parents were pirates

no I don't know her name I actually don't but so she gets on Instagram live

and she makes a video and she it feels like she's estranged from the family

from the mom and the sister it's like the best thing that could have happened

why does the mom seem sort of normal when I saw that clip yeah better than

the fact she didn't when you see the clip yeah but the moms gotta be on it

too yeah and that's a problem and that's

basically what the older sister has alleged now that basically treasurers

trolling her goal according to her sister is to become a meme yeah aim high

right yeah treasure right uh and that the mom is a

terrible person too because their moms in on it that that the that dr. Phil

show doesn't pay its guests know which is a whole interesting thing that they

do give them they all-expenses-paid trip to California coach and then you get to

stay in a like Quinta Inn right and then they do your hair and makeup and and all

that so you get to Beyonce you get to be on TV and you maybe be able to start a

rap career and making terrible rap song that's probably anything that happens on

the show they get a cut of like American Idol oh you think so

you think he's like the doctor dr. Dre of people will do anything to get on

fucking TV man yeah they will do anything to get on TV you look at Fear

Factor people eat fucking maggots for like the prizes are like 15 grand dude I

would be like no goddamn way am i eating a bowl full of freakin sky

ABB's for like just so I could be on TV like what are you doing I don't get it

Here I am in the middle of LA been trying to get on TV for years what kind

of scams we talking about dude their head scabs mmm just scabs from a bad

hair transplant adulthood or a child no adults no teenage oily head scabs 15

grand with with skim milk what about 2% yeah we good chef okay

oh yeah maybe I mean look you let them dry out it's basically frosted flakes

happy Halloween everybody happy honking head full of head scabs hey what kind of

candy do you give out on Halloween I don't um right now I'm I'm living in

sort of an apartment complex in the back kind of away from people where it's

inconvenient for people to come to my door wouldn't mind giving a candy away

but I ate well it just it's not no one would come to the door right now

and plus you know I'm at home I my underwear and I'm answering the door at

all hours that guy right yeah I am that guy so he's gonna give people an Apple

Apple Apple at all well it's an apple yeah both will just hand him handing him

out there you go so I'm glad you have I'm glad you have an issue with dr. Phil

as well because I know some people who are way into him and this whole TV

doctor thing dude a scar it's only a matter of time before dr. drew like they

find a pile of bodies in his basement I can't not tell you have you listened to

him lately just based on yeah I was in the drew dr. Drew was aggressive with

his callers now like I think it's because he's dealt with so many dumb

people calling with dumb bullshit but he's mean now he used to be like the

nice guy and now he's like a dick and I just I just I got whatever the

equivalent of dead potty dead bodies in the basement of Deadpool's are you don't

mean like the Dead Pool there should be like a dead body in the basement pool

he's he's high on do you think do you think so you think yeah secrets oh yeah

so you're saying drew is mean now all right super me so uh all right so I'll

call in Hey hey dr. Drew what you huge fan what

great long time listener awesome great thank you what do you want so um I don't

know the problem is uh well then why did you call we didn't know the problem is

why did you call well okay so well listen so when my listening when my

boyfriend you know finishes yeah you know yeah it

get out your question I don't what do you what's your question when he

finishes it tastes bad it tastes worse than other boyfriend's and I will then

stop it well then stop it if you don't want to do it then just stop it why

would you call it that everybody should know that Oh where's Adam Carolla that's

how he is that wasn't even funny he's such a dick Wow I know I'm a fan I'm a

fan of Drew I mean I'm not into TV doctors and stuff I'm a fan of dr. drew

actually he's one of the few where I listen to him or at least I used to I'd

listen to him back in the day on Loveline and I thought oh this probably

helps people dad I don't lately lately I feel like he used to be like that it

used to be Corolla was like the funny guy yeah and like you know making jokes

about dick pimples or whatever hell you got and then John would actually get

classic dick Pitbull I mean it's an evergreen topic Charlie ever ever red

and swollen and then drew would be like the you know actual useful information

but now he's just aggressive and mean and cuts people off and doesn't cuz cuz

the callers are probably just like you said

the radio show is just like the TV show where they're gonna screen these calls

and be like what's more interesting and then these problems are ridiculous and

he's just like I like fuck my life so he's he's the mean one now and his

Corolla position now switch roles it's not Corolla anymore I think it's some

other guy woody or some other morning show DJ I know he's got a different show

now yeah no I think it's still love line but it's not Adam Carolla love line

still on I think and I could be I don't know getting we don't often but the

point is entertainment doctors bad okay that's the point that's that's the point

kids so entertainment doctor when I was researching this topic dude you know who

Shelley Duvall is actress she was olive oil and Robin Williams yes

am I the shining that she shining so she hasn't she hasn't been on

screen in like 10 years and she's clearly I didn't load this clip up

because it's way too sad but she's got some mental stuff going on oh no I'm not

gonna diagnose from afar but if I had to guess I would say some she's in her 70s

you know or almost 70 but I would guess some kind of dementia broke her mind no

it's like I can't even laugh at it cuz it's really yeah it's really sad so of

course she's going through some stuff dr. Phil has her on oh man and you see

her immediately when you see her you're like this is not the same person and

when she talks it's it's an incoherent rambling a really sad one that only

someone in their late age does yeah like dementia you think or maybe Alzheimer's

or something that I I'm not entirely sure as I'm saying I don't know how to

diagnose her and I wouldn't want to but when you see it you're gonna think those

things and he's like you know he's sitting there interviewing he's like so

uh you know what did you think when Robin Williams passed and she's like oh

he's he's he's still here oh you think he's still here

yeah half here I think I see him in every one half here yeah and it's like

but it gets way more incoherent than that and you're watching it and going

dr. Phil why why what was the point of having her on yeah she's clearly got

some stuff going on yeah probably has to do with a age and maybe

some other stuff yeah you're not gonna fix her you're benefiting on TV yeah he

got us MIT that was maybe a year or two ago and he got a him and his show got a

huge backlash good that's when the internet works for us I know when it's

like yeah you get Apple that up it's I wish I pulled it up it would have

changed watching her talk would have this old woman who you used to recognize

as great it would it would change the tone of our episode yeah that would be

like that would be like I don't know bringing on Muhammad Ali and just

laughing at him in older days as he shakes

yeah and shake and that's exactly what it was yeah that's exactly what it was

shame on you dr. Phil oh God dr. Phil subscribe months

describe from dr. Phil jeez I've had an issue with dr. Phil for years dude

always been a critic it's it's it's just it's so easier to smell you know you can

just smell the the awfulness it's like a bad leg you get that you get that you

bad leg smell you're a bad leg you get cut you get that gangrene you gotta cut

it off to hold the entire leg you got to cut it off at the hip or else it's gonna

spread to the whole body and kill you that sounds like a TV doctor gave you

that advice oh yeah dr. house oh good call

yeah good call the only good to your TV doctor

Everyone does I'm the most famous enchantress in Isleworth

Yes, I curse you why would you do this I invited you to my ball

Don't you know anything about how curses worked dear I think she means you have to break the curse yourself you are correct

Only princess charlotte can undo the curse how you have to become friends with the Goblin of course

"Whose Line is it Anyway?" - The Points Don't Matter (But the Rules Do)! - Duration: 9:01.

This video about 'Whose Line' has been brought to you by the letter H! Wayne: "Capital H"!

Whose Line is it Anyway?", the show where everything is made up and the points don't matter. That's right,

the points are just like an ad on a YouTube video!

As I'm making this video 'Whose Line' has ran for 14 seasons and has grown an incredibly loyal,

and thankfully peaceful fanbase and in between their six year hiatus

they produced two different shows 'Drew Carey's Green Screen Show' & 'Improv-a-Ganza'

featuring most of the original cast members and crew and featuring some of the original games.

But neither of those shows as funny as they were really caught on as much as 'Whose Line' did.

So I looked at some of the new games that these two shows featured to see what felt different.

What I noticed was that the new games had a lot less rules and more creative freedom that the actors could use.

Why is that a problem you might ask?

Well, if you look back on the original games whose line still uses to this day

you might notice that there are rules on what they could or couldn't do and they had a tough time coming up with anything to

say, let alone how to perform it. And it's those restrictions that made those moments all the more hilarious and inventive!

Ryan: "I can see your bathroom habits have really taken a toll,

I can see your big fat ass is stuck in that bowl, I'll spread your ass with butter,

Pop you like a cork--"

'Two-line vocabulary' is a great example of this. The game has 2 characters who can only say... two lines,

while Colin is the one moving the story along.

And because of the established rules each scene revolves around a short-tempered leader stuck with two idiots who can't follow orders.

Colin: "We gotta have a plan, we gotta have a big plan". Ryan: "What do I look like"? Wayne: "Did you do that"? Colin: "Yeah-I did hear that"! Ryan: "What do I look like"? Colin: "SHUT UP!

All right-we" Ryan: "What do I look like"? Colin: "I'll tell you what you look like- a big stick with a big nose"!

It's a formula that can work for any scene

but it's the timing and delivery between the actors that make each segment memorable.

And that's the objective of the show take a plane scene and make it funny with nothing.

It's probably why 'Scenes from a Hat' has always been their favorite game;

You have to follow the scene, but you can make anything you can out of it.

Drew: "...It's things you can say to your dog, but not your girlfriend".

Colin: "...Come".

Musical games if anything rely on formulas the most

and that maybe the recent fans love them and cast members hate them the most. The games usually allow for the four

to make material based on each other's reactions, whereas with 'Hoedowns' and 'Irish Drinking Songs',

they have to come up with most or all the material completely on their own. And as a fan much of the comedy does come

from how miserable they all look, along with how they come up with the most random answers

Just to get the game over with. Ryan: "I'm marrying a girl, she's a little messy,

at times she reminds me of a very young Joe Pesci, I'd like to stop it, but I don't know what t-".

Games on 'Improv-a-Ganza' and 'Green-Screen Show' had a different approach where scenes didn't revolve around a story formula,

but based on a location or a random sentence provided by the audience and the actors have to make the story up entirely.

'Whose Line' scenes were pre-determined without the actors knowledge and the focus was on creating characters.

The focus on creating character and story at the same time

isn't as funny because now they have to explain most of the joke just to get a laugh.

Jeff: "... Morning doctor".

Colin: "Hello, Mr. Quandary".

Jeff: "Good to see you again. I thought you'd been let go after the terrible things that happened yesterday".

Colin: "I was let go but then they forgot and they came back".

Jeff: "Well, normally they don't forget when four people die under your knife. We have a lot in common, you know,

I'm having sex with your wife. Gandhi and Joe Pesci and-"

Colin: "S everything you say a premise"?Jeff: "Yes".

And with 'Green Screen Show' especially,

it definitely had a unique concept & the actors chemistry could keep the audience entertained without knowing what the effects were...

But that's the thing, we know they're not laughing at the effects.

So when something legitimately funny happens because of the edited sound effects or animation and the audience's reaction doesn't match up,

It's harder to sell the joke.

Now you might say on whose line that there are plenty of times when actors break the rules and they still get a joke.

And yeah there are but that's the thing; There were rules to break in the first place.

Ryan: "Singing a song about a vending machine,

Don't you know that is really not my scene,

Trying to think of something clever with the little twist, if we do another hoedown, I'll slit my fucking wrist"! All: "Slit my fucking WRIST"!

If someone deviated from the routine to do whatever they wanted,

there's still an element of suffering to it because either they can't come up with anything funny,

or someone else already stole their bit and it's funny the laugh in them whenever they fail.

Ryan: "Can you tell me if the doctor is working on the DOING-TING-TING"?

Greg: "You're New here, aren't you"?

Ryan: "Haven't you ever heard of the THWING-ON-THE-TWING-NIGH"?!

Drew "We're gonna change the name of the game to 'Hey, let's all make idiots out of ourselves'".

'Green Screen Show' and 'Improv-a-Ganza' definitely allowed for more creative freedom,

but without as many barriers there wasn't as much of a surprise when something funny happened.

There's still games with stakes like 'One-Syllable Word' or 'Freeze-Tag', but again, they could still control the story as much as they can,

Now some might say being given scenarios to work with already kind of goes against how improv works, but as far back as

Improvisational theatre goes, that was originally what performers would do. From the 16th to 18th centuries

Commedia, dell'arte was a form of theatre performed on the streets of Italy, and one of the defining features was that-while it was improvised,

the story, characters and their outcomes were usually laid out for the audience right at the beginning, just even in the prologue.

It wasn't about what story was being told. It's how it was told...

Sound familiar?

Characters and their traits were recognizable by their costumes and masks; Harlequin was a comic servant out to for his master.

The Innamorati-if I got that wrong,

I apologize,

are hopeless lovers who overcome obstacles such as the Pantalone, a greedy man of high class who is usually one lovers disapproved father.

And that's just the name of few.

And one thing 'Whose Line' has in common with commedia dell'arte is that each game is set apart by different structures that they each have.

Robin: "Can I help you"? Ryan: "Why don't you over there and get some of that special pepperoni of yours"?

Robin: "Why don't you stay there and let something rise"? Wayne: "Hello girl".

Greg: "Well, you're a jolly sort".

Wayne: "That's 'cause, I don't let things get to me. Sometimes they might get to me-but they don't get to me".

Greg: Mr. Brady I warned you about Viagra's side effects".

Ryan: "Today we bury Madonna".

Brad: "Damn your balls are hairy"!

Now for the record,

I do think all three of these shows are legitimately funny. Even in 'Green Screen Show' or 'Improv-a-Ganza' at their worst moments,

when they have to explain everything right from the get-go,

the actors' chemistry and timing make even the easiest jokes sound hilarious and that's more than enough for me.

But when I look back on them and figure out what it was that set them apart from 'Whose Line',

it was really easy to see that these games as decent as they were didn't have the exact same rhythm.

Jackie Chan once said about his fight choreography that there was a rhythm to it and that the audience doesn't know the rhythms there

until it's NOT there, and I think for most general audiences, that's how they felt about these other improv shows...

Then again the points really don't matter all that much-do they? Well guys,

Thank you very much for watching,

When Do Clocks Change Tonight: What Is Daylight Savings Time 2018 | Heavy.com

Daylight Saving Time 2018 ends tonight, so when do the clocks change? Do they move forward or go back? Daylight Saving ends on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at 2 a.m., so tonight, be sure to set your clocks back one hour when 2 a.m.

hits, or you could just wait to turn your clocks back until the morning if you don't feel like doing it before you go to sleep.

When it comes to cell phones, they automatically reset themselves.

The reason for setting the clocks back is to "fall back" in the fall season, which is a good way to remember whether to move the clocks forward or backward.

Setting the clocks back actually gives people an extra hour for the day.

When the clocks change again in March, you can remember to move them forward because it's Spring and the clocks "spring forward".

Since cable boxes, computers and cell phones all reset themselves with the correct time, the changing of the clocks is not as much of a chore as it used to be.

Here's a small checklist of appliances and other items to check when turning back the clocks an hour.

– Microwaves. – Ovens.

– Car or Vehicle Radios and Digital Displays.

– Refrigerators that Have the Time.

– Watches. – Wall Clocks.

– Alarm Clocks. – Radios.

As reported by CNN, Daylight Saving Time may soon be a thing of the past, since more states are wanting to stick to the same time year-round.

But, there are still others who enjoy the sense of tradition that comes with the changing of the clocks.

Some places in the United States do not observe Daylight Saving Time.

Those places include Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

The state of Arizona (except for the Navajo Nation in the northern part of Arizona), does not observe Daylight Savings Time and actually hasn't for about 4 decades.

According to Vox, states including Massachusetts, Tennessee and Florida are trying to do away with Daylight Saving Time as well.

According to Time and Date, setting the clocks back for Daylight Saving Time can have unfavorable effects on your health.

The change can trigger mental illness, like bipolar disorder, and seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which is also known as winter depression.

On the other hand, there have also been reports that there have been good effects on some people's health.

There have been reports of a decrease in heart attack rates in some areas and a decrease in car accidents in areas as well.

One of America's Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin, was the first to propose a type of daylight time in 1784, in his essay "An Economical Project for Diminishing the Cost of Light." This was originally meant to be somewhat of a joke and wasn't taken too seriously.

The current schedule of Daylight Saving Time was first introduced in 2007 and follows the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

Overall, Daylight Saving Time has officially been around for about 100 years.

Today, 40% of countries, across the globe, use Daylight Saving Time to make better use of daylight and to conserve energy.
