Waching daily Nov 1 2018

- *** balance.

(hard rock music)

- [Narrator] Brian Cristiano.

- [Narrator 2] Brian Cristiano.

- [Narrator 3] BOLD Worldwide, top expert

in the world of marketing.

- [Narrator 4] Here to discuss is Brian Cristiano.

- [Man] This is a hundred million we're doing.

- [Brian] Yeah, that's cool.

I have not been a great CEO,

but it's time for me to step up.

I'm down 50% of my staff.

It could be enough to put us out of business.

- Nobody could run anything like you are.

- Is there anything you worry about?

- I'm tied to making this work.

- A crazy story!

- This is the real Growing BOLD.

- October 23rd.

- October 23rd, Ali on the Run and BoldCEO

collaborating forces for our biggest project yet.

- I know, I'm excited; so we're gonna tell you all

about it today, I'm actually most excited

to tell our parents about it.

- You mean, grandparents?

(parents screaming)

- As soon as we told people I was pregnant,

everyone was like, oh so is Brian gonna be home

a lot more now?

And I'm like no, Brian needs to be in the office

a lot more now.

Like, that shocks people, but to us, I'm like,

I don't need him for anything now.

- I mean the last couple of weeks, honestly,

I haven't gotten home earlier than one or two o'clock

in the morning.

And so, the other day, I was like, wow!

The baby's getting bigger!

And she's like, yeah, you haven't seen me,

in like, during the daylight hours in two weeks.

Of course.

That's reality.

(upbeat music)

- [Brian] The first ever live Ali on the Run show

(audience applause)

(upbeat music)

- Your ???

- (upbeat music)

- [Ali] ??

- I've got a pregnant wife giving me a massage.

(laughter)

- So we both -- today--

Boring.

- It's boring!

(upbeat music)

- People would ask me like, oh, what's Brian

gonna do for paternity leave?

And I'm like, I don't know, A, we haven't

figured that out, and B, he's gonna do whatever

is best for him and for our family.

Oh you guys are so lucky that you don't have

to worry about that, we're lucky?

Yeah, maternity leave in our country sucks,

I'm not lucky, we chose this life.

- That's right.

- And it's hard, like, I think people look

at the good things.

People look at the trips, the vacations, the freedom;

and don't realize how hard we work to get that.

- I hate the word balance.

Balance is like, you get on a see-saw,

and you're like, okay, let's get balance,

and you just kind of like float in the middle.

Dude, real life is extremes.

It's a big emotion, it's big successes, it's big failures.

And I think the problem is that most people

try to go for balance, so guess what,

they experience this in life.

Very little fluctuation.

My life is this!

It's way more fun, it's way more fun,

to go up and down on the see-saw, have extremes,

it's not easy, but it's more fun.

- (mumbling) studio--

Why can't you have it all?

You can have it all, it's just--

If you're willing to work hard enough!

- Well, that's it!

Yeah, but the amount of work it requires

to do that, it's immense, and most people

don't want to go through that journey.

- Ready?

- Are you ready?

- We like to go in, all in, on everything we do,

for both of us.

(cheering)

And I think that's why we work well.

- Just being bold.

You're laughing.

- (laughing) You have no idea how bold you are, sweetie.

- Yeah, thank you.

- You know, when I was bike racing, I was all in,

I won races, like, all in.

But that detracted from how much time I could put

into business so now I'm not in on it at all.

And the times I find it hard are when people

try to tell you how to have balance.

Well, just schedule an hour on these days

and do this, then it's like you kind of sort

of have an hour to kind of, like, maybe.

Dude, I rather not see my wife for two weeks

and then go away with her for three days.

And be all in on that, and then come back

and be all in on business for two weeks.

- The way I see balance, is, it's not about time.

To me, it's not like, oh if you're gonna be at the office

for eight hours, I want you home for this many.

Like, you can be at the office for 20 hours,

be home for four, sleep for three of them,

if for that one hour, you're all in, focused on your family,

committed, and we get the best of you,

that's not a problem.

- Like when I have a kid, I'll take, I don't know

how much time, because I never had a kid before,

so I don't know how much time I'm gonna want.

But if it's a week, two weeks, three days, I don't know,

but I will, and I'll shut down and focus all on that.

- What's in there?

Going to the doctor!

- For what?

- For our first ultrasound.

Hi baby!

Is there anything you worry about when it

comes to our family?

- I do worry a bit sometimes about missing stuff.

- You haven't missed anything yet.

You've come to every appointment, you've felt

lots of kicks, seen lots of kicks--

Yeah.

- Like, you haven't missed anything yet.

And I know, it's different when there's an actual child,

but you know, you make it work, you do, like I don't know

how, I don't know why, you've chosen to come

to every appointment, I'm very grateful that you have.

I think it's the coolest thing ever,

I love having you there.

Anyone who knows Brian knows his schedule

doesn't allow for that, but he has made that happen,

and that's not something I expected

or asked for.

I was kind of like, come to the big ones,

but I don't know what the big ones are.

But like, you hear people say that, like oh,

my husband came for the big ones, so I was like,

yeah, come for the big ones.

It's just like with everything,

that he goes all in on.

You're doing a good job, supporting me, yeah,

like I haven't--

In all seriousness?

- Yeah.

I look at where we were a year ago, and that

was not the case.

Like, we were living totally separate lives.

- Slow date.

- That's a slow date.

- My greatest fear is, when it comes to

our future, is having kids and having

to do it by myself.

I think there's a part of me that wants

to be able to say, like, I'm independent, I don't

need anyone, I can do this on my own, but the reality is,

it's really helpful to not have to do it on my own.

And like--

Do you feel like you do it on your own?

- Yeah.

- You do?

- Like how much better it's made where we are now,

and I think, I look at what we've been through

in the last year between my health, your crazy work,

me being very deeply depressed and not myself

for a long time, like I think the timing

of when I got pregnant is in sync.

When I got pregnant, we weren't at the point of

really concretely talking about starting a family.

And since then, he's been really different in that

he's really focused in everything he does.

He is always talking about, like, this is

for our family, and like everything I do now

is for our family, and not that we weren't a family before.

We were a family, we've always been a family.

It's just different now.

He's so focused on how every business decision

he makes will impact our future.

- I'm tied to making this work.

Like I have to make this, I have to make it work,

it on order to make us successful and to be able

to provide greatly for our family.

It's not an easy lifestyle or choice.

It requires an immense amount of effort,

to continue to grow.

- [Ali] It's a sacrifice.

- A lot of sacrifice, so that's the thing.

It's not for everybody, but I think that

at the end of the day, you're asking about balance

and I don't believe in balance,

you define it differently as well,

it's an individual decision.

I don't think anyone should ever be balanced

but I think that they should go all in on what they want.

If they want to like relax, and be chill all day,

and read books and go fishing, then figure out how to

go all in on that and don't just do it every

three months and take a day off from work.

Like figure out how to make that 100% of your energy.

You don't have to want this like super high cadence,

high energy, high effort, all the time,

risking everything on both sides, every minute

of every day.

That is absolutely not for a lot of people.

That's what I want, that's what I have to do

to get where we want to go, so I have to go all in.

I don't want balance and mediocrity.

I want to see what I'm made of,

I wanna show our kid what's possible,

I remind myself on a daily basis

I'm doing this because this effort

gets me where I want to go.

So I remind myself what I'm trying to achieve,

and why I have to put in this level of energy.

And the other part is, I remind myself,

what being introverted and comfortable and lazy

gets me, and that's a quarter million dollars

in debt, broke, on a couch, completely depressed,

hating life.

And so those two things are polar opposites,

and one is pushing me away from

ever being that person ever again, and the other

is pulling me towards my future.

- Catch!

[Ali and Brian] Yay!

- He will do anything for our family,

and I think what it comes to his hours

right now, I don't care, like he can work around the clock,

I don't need him for anything right now.

But I can't wait to see what our family looks like,

when the baby's here, and you know, I know

there are parts that are gonna be really challenging,

and parts that are so amazing.

(shaking pinata)

- Is it a girl?

(candy falling) No, really?

- We're not balanced people, we're not

going to be.

But that also doesn't mean we're gonna neglect our kid

because we're both so consumed by our work.

We're gonna kick *ss at both.

(rock music)

- I don't even know why you would want balance.

My life is this, way more fun!

It's not easy!

- When it comes to our family, is there

anything you worry about?

This Is the World's Fastest Elevator - Duration: 5:01.

- Hey guys, this is the story of

the world's fastest elevator.

Recently, I took a trip to Taipei and it is hard not

to notice the giant Taipei 101 Tower.

Now, standing at a massive 1671 feet tall,

at one time this was the world's tallest building.

Created by the architectural firm, C.Y. Lee & Partners,

when 101 opened in March of 2004,

it took the crown of the world's tallest building away

from the previous record holder,

the Petronas Towers in Malaysia.

And because the marketing tagline world's tallest building

is a great way to get people to give you lots of money

to build your super cool new building,

the 101 has been passed in the recent years

by several other tall skyscrapers.

Although of course, the biggest of them is going to be

the Burj Khalifa which stands an impressive,

over 1,000 feet taller than even the 101.

But, you didn't click on this video because you wanna know

about the world's tallest buildings,

this is all about why this is the world's fastest elevator.

So, you visit the 101,

they're not shy at all about bragging about the elevator.

Not only do they have an entire exhibit about it

where they have a scale model,

but they have the Guinness World Record certifying

this as the tallest elevator all over the place.

Developed by Toshiba,

the main two 101 elevators will travel

at an astounding 1,010 meters per minute

or 37.6 miles per hour.

For context,

the current tallest building in North America,

One World Trade Center, located in New York City,

it has glacially slow elevators at a mere 23 miles per hour.

Or to really wrap your head around it,

the Disney Tower of Terror ride located at Disneyland,

although it's actually now called Guardians of the Galaxy,

but it's basically the same ride,

that only is going to move slightly faster

than the 101 elevator.

And that's a proper thrill ride

where you're running up and down

and up and down and it feels super fast.

And yet, when you get into the 101 elevator,

it doesn't really feel like anything different

even though you're moving at an incredible rate of speed.

That is because there is some seriously clever engineering

to make it happen.

To achieve this the elevator shuttles are designed

with aerodynamic efficiency in mind from top to bottom.

Quite literally in fact,

there are spoilers on both the top and the bottom

of the elevators to remove as much of the drag as possible.

Even simple things like the counterweights that,

of course every elevator is going to need,

they're also designed to be as slippery

and smooth as possible.

Not only does this allow for greater speeds,

but you're also going to be getting

a much smoother experience inside

the actual elevator itself.

I mean, imagine if you're moving at 37 miles per hour,

the last thing you want is for an elevator

to be shaky or bumpy,

or fly straight out of the top of the building or something.

Can you do that?

Has an elevator actually ever flown out of the top

of a building, is that possible?

(glass crashing)

(peaceful music)

In addition,

the elevator shuttles also have acoustic paneling.

As you imagine, with all that wind rushing,

it would be fairly loud.

But when you're actually in the elevators themselves,

they're pretty quiet.

It is so easy to forget that you are

in the world's fastest elevator.

With an estimated cost of two

to three million dollars per elevator,

something like this definitely does not come cheap.

But what's really cool about it is

that it just feels normal.

You get inside the elevator and if you ignore

the screen showing you how fast you're going,

it would be so simple to forget that you're actually

in the world's fastest elevator.

And a lot of that is a testament to the rest

of the engineering that went into building the 101.

Between the 92nd and 87th floor,

hangs a 728 ton, 18-foot wide pendulum,

known as the tuned mass damper.

Now this is the secret to why the 101,

even though it's in one of the worst possible areas

you could build a skyscraper like this,

is still known as one of the most secure

and stable buildings in the world.

What a mass damper does is that

as the building sways one direction,

the damper will move in the opposite.

So, it's just like a counterweight or a pendulum

in anything else although on a much, much larger scale.

Imagine that some giant typhoon force wind hits

the side of the building,

well the damper can move up to five feet

in the opposite direction to sort of balance out the force.

Now this has been put to the test.

Not only have their been several earthquakes

in Taipei since the 101 was constructed,

but in 2015 a typhoon hit which was able to make

the mass damper move up to 3.3 feet in either direction.

Yet, because it is rated up to five feet

and a lot more pressure,

there was no damage whatsoever.

The damper itself is constructed out

of 41 massive steel plates that are stacked

into a sphere and suspended on steel cables.

Now what's really cool about this is

that while several other tall buildings around the world

do have similar setups,

not only is this going to be the biggest,

but it's even a tourist attraction.

All of this makes the 101 not only

an incredible piece of engineering,

but also enables the world fastest elevators

to actually function.

Except that well that's actually a lie.

Because if you look at the fine print,

it is no longer the fastest in the world.

In 2016, Mitsubishi developed an elevator

for the Shanghai Tower which can travel 119 floors

in a mere 53 seconds for a full 15 miles an hour faster

than the previous record holder, the 101.

Progress in not going to stop here either.

So several companies are working

on even faster elevators right now.

Some even leveraging some technology that's kind of similar

to what you're going to find in bullet trains.

Hyundai for example, is reportedly working on an elevator

that can go above 50 miles per hour.

So, the next time you get in an elevator,

maybe think twice about the level of engineering

and technology that goes into making something

so simple go so fast.

Or you could just go to Disneyland.

Why Location Location Location is Wrong - Duration: 4:05.

Hi, I'm Sunil and in this episode of Systematic Property,

we're going to find out why the phrase,

"Location, location,

location," is wrong.

So, "Location,

location, location," is what all the gurus say

and maybe for them there's good reason.

Location is important

but it's not the most important thing in real

estate or property investing.

Why is that?

Well, we have to backtrack a little bit

and understand: What is the key factor in being successful

as a real estate investor?

Now, we know that the markets go up

and down and that means that we could be in a position where we bought

a property and the market moves on us

and we can't sell it or we have to hold it for some

time. So,

being successful in real estate means holding property for a long

time. Because if you're able to hold the property for a long time,

you will make money.

It's just whether you can

or you can't hold on to it.

So, a key factor is being able to hold onto a property.

And if we look at what are the key factors of

someone being able to hold the property long term,

number one is the profit

or the cash flow that comes from a property.

Now, if you're buying a property

with the goal of speculation,

you want to sell it for a profit and the market moves on you,

you might be in a position on a monthly basis where you're losing

money. And if the markets moved,

maybe the property is not worth what you paid for it.

So you're in a lose-lose situation.

You keep the property you lose, sell the property you lose.

So, that's why focusing on cash flow is

a key factor of long-term success in property

investing.

If you have a property where your income is substantially

more than your expenses, let's say 1.3 times,

that means that your income could be

$1,300 a month and all of your expenses,

mortgage combined, could be $1,000.

Now, that's a safer bet.

And that means that long term,

even if the market turns on you,

you're going to be okay.

You're going to survive.

For me, as a cash flow investor,

I look for that ratio to be closer to

2 rather than 1.3. That means my income should be double my

expenses. All that does is reduce the risk

of my investments.

Now, thinking about the long-term strategy,

if I have good cash flow,

I can hold the property long term.

So, what's more important than location,

location, location?

It's got to be: Will this property make me money?

Now, obviously it needs to be in a good location.

So for me, location,

location location comes second.

It's the second most important point.

The most important point is: Will this property make

cash flow if I have to rent it out

and hold it? If it will then potentially

it's a good deal.

Now if I just focus on the location,

first of all, what's going to happen?

I'm going to find a really good property in a really good location.

But guess what? That gives me increased risk if

the property market moves on me

or I can't sell it when I want to.

So location, location,

location is important.

But what's more important is finding a deal where you have cash

flow, cash flow, cash flow.

And if I have that, I am guaranteed to make money long

term because no matter what happens in the short term,

I can hold that property,

still make money, and then make my money eventually.

So, when you're looking at properties,

look for cash flow, cash flow, cash flow not location,

location, location. Thanks for watching.

I'm Sunil.

Why The future is NOT Happening to You... - Duration: 1:51.

All of human progress throughout history has been driven by our capacity to use

foresight. We've made huge advancements as a species in relatively short amounts

of time. And all this is because we're drawn to the future. You see, our imaginations

and our drive to create show what can happen when we break from the status quo,

and the accepted norms of the day, to really discover what else might be

possible. And I tell you this because, this way of thinking, planning, and

executing, is in our DNA. However, the polar opposite of this way

of thinking and planning is also in our DNA. And that is, our instinct to EAT

today. SURVIVE today. You see, this drive usually takes precedence because

biologically speaking, we human beings are still hardwired the same as we were

when we lived in caves. For most people and maybe you felt this way or,

maybe you still feel this way: They feel that the future is something that

is happening to them. And this feeling is so prominent because every day that goes

by and every new piece of information that comes your way, well... that creates a

new question in your mind about "what it means to you," and "how it will affect you," and

"what you should do about it," if anything at all. This of course can be

maddening. So it's normal to feel like this thing called "the future," is

something that's happening to you. Now I fully acknowledge that we have very real

short-term needs and concerns and those aren't to be ignored but ensuring our

long-term success means that we have to find balance between the two.
