Stars Who Went To Extreme Lengths For A Role - Duration: 6:21.

It's part of an actor's job to squeeze seamlessly into a role, but sometimes that job also requires

squeezing into a tight pair of shorts - after gaining 40 pounds.

Whether they were gaining weight, losing it, or just wreaking havoc on their bodies, these

actors and actresses went to some pretty extreme lengths to bring their characters to life.

Matt Damon

When Matt Damon signed on for The Informant!, he literally bit off more than he could chew.

The movie told the story of Mark Whitacre, a whistle-blower with some secrets of his

own.

While Whitacre was informing the FBI about his boss' price-fixing schemes, he was simultaneously

embezzling millions of dollars from the company.

To achieve the proper look, Damon gained 30 pounds, and he did so the old fashioned way

- by eating everything in sight.

The actor specifically name-dropped Doritos, McDonald's, and beer while doing press for

the movie.

When filming wrapped, Damon struggled to shed the weight because, apparently, even actors

are human.

He eventually took up boxing to rediscover that classic Matt Damon action hero look.

Christian Bale

Christian Bale loves pushing his body to the limit for his roles.

When he did The Machinist, he dropped 60 pounds and looked like a human skeleton.

He followed that by packing on the muscle for Batman Begins.

For his role in American Hustle, Bale gained 43 pounds and gave himself a comb-over.

He's not actually bald, so he purposefully shaved parts of his head to help sell his

aged hairstyle.

He basically transformed himself from a badass superhero to a sleazy con artist.

"I'm like the Vietcong, man.

I'm in and I'm out, I was there the whole time, you don't know it."

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron is a stunningly beautiful actress, but when she was cast to play Aileen

Wuornos, those model looks were not going to cut it.

The movie, Monster, portrayed the story of Wuornos' killing spree between 1989 and 1990.

Theron was unrecognizable in her Oscar-winning role, gaining 30 pounds and shaving her eyebrows.

She reportedly gained the weight with a steady diet of donuts and potato chips.

"So basically you ate potato chips all the time?"

"Basically, everywhere.

I had a bag in my car, a bag in the bathroom, a bag in the kitchen."

That might sound like a once-in-a-lifetime commitment, but she did it again in 2018,

gaining almost 50 pounds for her role in Tully.

Rob McElhenney

It can be hard to keep a comedy feeling fresh after several seasons, but Rob McElhenney

came up with a unique solution.

For the seventh season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the actor purposely gained

50 pounds.

"Mack, you have gained, I mean, 50 pounds of fat."

"Mass."

"Fat!"

"Muscle."

"Let's be clear: fat!"

A lot of comedies will have actors donning fat suits for an episode or two to get some

cheap laughs out of it, but that wasn't the motivation behind this stunt.

McElhenney said the inspiration for the "fat Mac" story arc was that it was the opposite

of what typically happens on sitcoms.

"As a man who works very hard to maintain a certain level of physical excellence, I

find shortcuts insulting.

Now give me a piece of the ham, now!"

Since It's Always Sunny is supposed to be a deconstruction of typical sitcoms, Mac decided

to look less like the stereotypical movie star as the years went by.

McElhenney eventually lost the weight, but Fat Mac will live in our hearts forever.

"Uh, yeah, no one ever really knows what's going on with Mac.

He's fat, he's skinny, he's muscular.

It's really a cry for help and attention I think."

Ryan Gosling

While most actors who put on weight for a role get rewarded for their effort, things

didn't work out that way for Ryan Gosling.

In 2009, Peter Jackson released The Lovely Bones, a supernatural story about a murdered

young girl.

The story focuses on her ghost, and is split between her entrance into the afterlife and

her family trying to deal with her death.

The movie stars Mark Wahlberg as the girl's father, but Ryan Gosling was originally cast

in the role.

When Gosling was hired, he reportedly decided the father should be overweight, so he gained

a whopping 60 pounds for the role.

Unfortunately, he never ran this idea by Jackson, who didn't take to the inflated Gosling and

dropped him from the film.

"I just showed up on set, and I'd gotten it wrong.

And then I was fat and unemployed."

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway's portrayal of poverty-stricken prostitute Fantinein the 2012 adaptation of

the novel Les Misérables may have earned her an Academy Award, but it also took a huge

toll on her health.

The actress had previously described her regimen in the run up to shooting the musical as,

quote, "starvation."

She finally elaborated on the extent of her dramatic weight loss in an interview, admitting

that she had to shed 25 pounds to be convincing as her character.

Mila Kunis

Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky decided that Mila Kunis would be the perfect frenemy

for leading lady Natalie Portman after seeing Kunis in the rom-com Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

In order to fit the bill of tiny dancer Lily, Kunis had to slim down to the size of your

average ballerina, and that started with three months of solid training.

When that wasn't enough to reach her size-zero target, the actress took to some unhealthy

methods.

She told Howard Stern's SiriusXM show:

"I had to look skinny in order to look like a ballerina.

You fake it.

So, the best way to fake it is to unfortunately look like it…

And I'll tell you this, I'm not promoting this at all, but I used to be a smoker, and

so I smoked a lot of cigarettes and I ate a limited amount of calories."

Kunis revealed that she kept her intake at a shocking 1200 calories per day, and by the

end of the shoot, she tipped the scale at just 95 pounds, describing herself as "crazy

thin."

Natalie Portman

Kunis' transformation for Black Swan was indeed a shocking one, though it wasn't quite as

shocking as the weight loss her co-star went through for the movie.

Count Natalie Portman among the actresses awarded with an Oscar for abusing their bodies

in the name of art.

Portman called her training for the psychological thriller the hardest thing she has ever experienced,

revealing that she was working 16 hour days while barely eating.

She said: "I was almost method acting without intending to.

I do wonder now how people can do this kind of role when they have a family."

Portman's frail figure started to become a concern for director Darren Aronofsky, who

later told Access Hollywood about the moment he had to say enough was enough.

"At a certain point I looked at [Portman's] back and she was so skinny and so cut.

I was like, 'Natalie, start eating!'

I made sure she had a bunch of food in her trailer."

Portman managed to maintain her frighteningly thin frame for the duration of the shoot,

though the second it was over her first thoughts were "pasta, pasta, pasta!"

Instagram for People Who Hate Instagram - Instagram Tips and Free Tools For Artists - Duration: 11:45.

- Really, Instagram?

Really?

Like, another social media?

'Cause I do not spend enough time on social media already.

(speech sped up)

Do I have to have Instagram?

I get it.

Instagram is yet another social media

that you have to handle and manage,

and it takes your time away from being creative,

being in the studio,

or working on building your small business.

However, in today's day and age where the popularity

of Instagram is only gaining momentum,

you really should have a presence on that platform

just so you can finish the conversation that starts,

"Hey, are you on Instagram?"

If you say no to that question,

you might be losing out on collaborations,

on customers, on exposure,

or just continuing on the conversation

and showing people what you do

and why you're special.

A lot of people have the notion

that if you have an Instagram account

that it's one more daily habit that

you have to tend to lest it is useless,

and that is not true.

In this video I'm going to show you

the profile tricks that you need to have a strong

Instagram presence when someone finds you,

scheduling tools that will make it easy

so you could schedule a year's worth

of content in an afternoon,

and some other tips and tricks

that make Instagram not so terrible.

Stick around.

(upbeat electronic music)

Hi, guys.

Thanks for joining me.

This is Tech Tip Thursday,

and today's Tech Tip Thursday I'm talking about tips

for Instagram, for artists, creatives,

and people who hate Instagram.

We will have a lot of social media

and other technical tips down the road,

so be sure to hit subscribe

and the bell notification so you never miss a video.

You have this, along with Motivation Monday,

and other amazing interviews with creatives

who are trying to make it in the world.

There are a lot of reasons for you

to have an Instagram account.

If you're an artist, creative,

or a small business entrepreneur.

You need to reach various audiences.

You need to see insights into

who is interested in your products.

You just wanna get your work out there and recognized.

But what are some of the reasons

that you don't wanna be on Instagram?

They could be deeper buried than you think.

First of all, there is this idea,

especially with artists and creatives,

this icky aversion to self-promotion.

However, if you're a creative, if you're an artist

and if you're an entrepreneur, it's really part of the game.

And I think in this day and age,

everybody understands that you

have to get your message out there.

So if you have a fear or an embarrassment

that there's someone that you love or hate

that might roll their eyes at your attempts

to succeed in the world,

all I have to say is that wonderful quote,

"Those that matter don't mind,

"and those that mind don't matter."

Keep that in mind when you're trying to promote your work

and trying to build your success.

Also, you might be worried that Instagram

is just gonna be a suck on your time

and you have better things to do.

I totally get that.

But I can kinda make a parallel of

working with Instagram like baking a cake.

Some people might think, oh my gosh, I cannot bake a cake.

I have to go get the flour and the eggs

and the measuring and figure out the pan

and do all of these things.

Or you might just go get a box, get an egg, mix it up,

and throw it in the oven.

Instagram can be just like a box cake.

You don't have to do everything from scratch.

There are tools that you can use.

They can help you get to where you need to go.

Step one, if you don't have an Instagram account,

is, of course, to get one.

So I'm going to go over the steps

for setting up an Instagram profile.

You can do this on a computer,

or you can also do it on your phone.

Step one is downloading the app, of course.

You can go to the app store.

Search for Instagram.

It's right there.

Get the app, open the app up,

and then you have to put in your phone number

and then your preferred profile name.

You might have to play around with the profile name.

And here are a few tips that you should think about

when you're picking your profile name.

One is you want your name to be easily searchable.

So don't get cute with different characters or nicknames.

If it's possible to have your name

or your company name or something very similar,

then you should absolutely try to get that.

You can also use underscores or numbers

if those are appropriate to get that

username or profile handle that is easily found.

Also, don't forget that you're going to be saying

this handle out loud to people when

they ask you if you're on Instagram.

So just try to make it simple, straightforward,

but also in line with who you are or what your brand is.

Now that you're all set up with a profile,

it is time for you to put in the information for your bio.

I have seen so many people really miss an opportunity

to make their bio the most useful

and powerful tool in their Instagram profile.

One thing that you should absolutely try to do

is talk about what's in it for the people

who are searching for you, or who see your profile.

I know the immediate reflexive response

is to write about yourself.

It is a bio after all.

But you want to present what might

interest this person into following you.

So if you're an artist or creative,

put the kind of art or the service

or the creative thing that you do.

And be specific.

If you're a photographer, what kind of photographer are you?

Are you a wedding photographer?

Are you an infant photographer?

What kind of artist are you?

Are you a street artist?

Are you a fine artist?

Do you work in oils?

Do you work in illustration?

Put those things at the very top

so the person that comes across your profile

knows what they're in for if they follow you.

The second profile tip is, if you have space,

definitely write something about yourself

that can be relatable to the people who are following you.

Put in the location where you are.

That is really important because someone is more likely

to follow someone in their hometown or their home state

than someone who's in another country, say.

So definitely put in your location.

And the last and most important, important thing

that you can add to your bio is contact information.

This could be a link to

your professional or personal website,

to your Etsy shop, to another profile about me,

Behance, a portfolio site.

You want people to see your Instagram account,

become totally enamored with you,

and want to learn more,

and they need a space to do that.

One of the free tools I'm going to talk about is Linktree.

Linktree is free,

and it allows you to have one link in your bio

and when they click on that link,

you have another list of links

that you can use for your Linktree profile.

This is a way for you to link to many different websites

or accounts just from that one

website URL in your Instagram profile.

Pretty cool.

So step one is you have your account setup.

Step two is you have an awesome profile that works for you,

and gets people interested and following you.

Now it comes time for posting things.

I understand that you do not wanna spend days

and days and days posting every single day.

And luckily, Instagram has made it possible

for you to auto-schedule posts

if you have a business account.

I highly recommend if you're an artist or creative

or small business that you have a business account.

It's really easy.

You go to your profile settings,

and you switch to a business account.

That does a couple of things.

Number one, it allows you to put contact information

and email, or a phone number that people can reach you,

but also it allows you to use third-party tools

to schedule to Instagram.

There are a lot of third-party

Instagram scheduling tools out there.

However, one that is free,

and I'm all about free right now

so people don't have to spend a ton of money

on their Instagram marketing.

Another reason that people might not

wanna use it, is Hootsuite.

Hootsuite allows you to schedule

30 scheduled posts for free.

You can get a Hootsuite,

and Hootsuite allows you,

you can do a single photo post.

You can type in your caption, which is really important,

and you can add hashtags,

and then you can schedule posts once a day,

once a week, once a month, so you can add consistency

to your Instagram feed without the need to

attend to it on a daily or weekly basis.

One drawback to auto-scheduling Instagram posts

is that you don't get the filter features

that are so neat in the native Instagram interface.

However, another free tool that you can use to add filters

to some of your images prior to

putting them in auto-scheduler is Canva.

I loves me some Canva.

I use Canva all the time.

It is free.

It has some pre-defined templates,

including an Instagram template so you know

that it's going to be the right dimensions.

And it has some filters, so check out Canva.

You can pre-filter your images,

and then you can put them in Hootsuite

and schedule them.

You can schedule these so that you are consistent

or you're always coming up on Instagram,

but I also wanna argue that if you just want

a bare-bones Instagram presence,

just have at least nine photos in your profile.

The reason that nine is the magic number

is because when someone sees your profile,

they're gonna see a grid of the first nine posts.

That's the square.

And you don't want your Instagram profile to be bare.

Have at least nine images.

Your profile, your contact information,

and if you never wanna touch Instagram again,

I don't blame you,

but at least you have something that you can show someone.

They can tag you, they can look at your work,

and they can find out more on the link in your profile.

Alright, I hope I convinced you that Instagram

is definitely worth a little bit of time and trouble.

I would like to see your Instagram account.

If you've created one or if you have one now,

put it in the comments below so I can check it out,

and of course follow you.

If you have any other tech tips that you would like to see

on Technical Tip Thursday, send me a note,

put it in the comments below.

I would love to hear what you think.

If you're working hard to build

your creative or small business, remember,

(voice echoing) you are courageous.

So, we had no idea about the disease until my daughter was born.

And then, after a few months, they started to dive into our backgrounds and her genetic tests.

And then after she was diagnosed, so was I.

And we struggled fort he first couple of years.

She was pretty ill and had to be vented.

But, right now, she's 7-years old and she goes to second grade . . . she's thriving, actually.

She's wonderful and everyday, we try to make her life as normal as possible.

We don't treat her any differently.

Configuring Foreign Exchange Rate Overrides for NIBT and CbCR in Oracle Tax Reporting Cloud - Duration: 4:35.

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to configure foreign exchange rate overrides for net income

before tax and country by country table 1 accounts in Oracle Tax Reporting Cloud.

Let's start by looking at how to configure rate overrides for the

Net Income Before Tax accounts used in the current provision, the consolidated effective tax rate,

and the statutory effective tax rate.

By default, these accounts are translated using the current period exchange rate.

You may need to override the default rate with a blended rate.

The Net Income Before Tax accounts are translated using the override rate,

and the difference between the account values translated at the

override rate and at the default rate is posted as a permanent difference.

To configure exchange rate overrides for Net Income Before Tax, you edit the

member properties for the base level accounts under the TRCS_NIBT Adjusted

member in the Tax Accounts hierarchy.

In the NIBT FX Rate Override Account column, select the rate account to

use for translating the account.

A system-defined rate account named TRCS_NIBT Override is provided.

If you need additional rate accounts, you can add them to the NIBT Override

Rate Accounts parent in the Exchange Rates hierarchy.

In the NIBT Override Difference Account column, select a permanent difference account.

I'll select permGS0003, which is the Foreign Exchange permanent difference account.

The difference account stores the difference between the account value

translated at the override rate and the default rate.

After modifying the account properties, remember to refresh the database

to apply your changes.

To enter override rates for Net Income Before Tpax accounts, use the NIBT FX Rates Override form.

This form has rows for all the rate accounts under the NIBT Override Rate Accounts

parent in the Exchange Rates hierarchy.

In the POV, select the entity for which to enter rates.

You enter rates to translate from the base currency of the Entity in the POV to the

currencies in the rows.

You cannot enter amount overrides.

You do not need to run the Compute Rates rule after entering rates.

If during translation no NIBT override rate is found, the current period exchange rate for

entity is used, or the Global Assumption rate if not entity rate exists.

NIBT override rates are stored in the Consol cube, so if your loading rates from a file or

using Data Management, you should make the Consol cube your target.

You can also enter override rates for translating your Table1 accounts for country

You can also enter override rates for translating your Table1 accounts for country

by country reporting.

You enter override rates for country by country reporting using the FX Rates Override CbCR form.

Select the entity for which you want to enter rates, and the currency for the rates,

in the POV.

All Table1 accounts automatically display as rows in the form, you do

not need to configure member properties.

However, when you add new accounts for Table 1, you must refresh the

database before you can enter rates for the new accounts.

For each account, enter a rate to translate from the base currency of the POV

entity to the POV currency.

You do not need to run the Compute Rates rule after entering rates.

If during translation no CbCR override rate is found, then the current period exchange rate

for the entity is used. or the Global Assumption rate if no entity rate exists.

For the Profit (Loss) Before Income Tax - Entry account, if no override rate is found,

For the Profit (Loss) Before Income Tax - Entry account, if no override rate is found,

the NIBT override FX rate is used, if defined in the provision.

Rates for CbCR overrides are stored in the CbCR cube, so if you are loading

rates from a file or using Data Management, you should make the CbCR cube your target.

Configuring Foreign Exchange Rate and Amount Overrides for Historical Accounts in TRCS - Duration: 3:38.

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to configure foreign exchange rate and amount overrides

for historical accounts in Oracle Tax Reporting Cloud.

You can override the current period foreign exchange rates and amounts for Book

accounts that require historical rates.

Book accounts are located under the Income Statement and Balance Sheet hierarchies in

the Account dimension.

During currency translation, you can use a historical exchange rate in place of the current

period exchange rate.

Alternatively, you can use the historical translated amount for the current

period translated value, in which case currency translation does not take place.

To configure an account to use historical override rates or amounts, you edit

the account's Exchange Rate Type property.

I'll configure the Common Stock account to use historical exchange rates

by selecting Historical Rate Override.

I'll configure Paid In Capital to use an amount override by selecting Historical

Amount Override.

When you select Historical Rate Override or Amount Override Rate for an account,

the account is automatically added as a shared member to the

FCCS_Historical Accounts hierarchy.

The base-level accounts in the FCCS_Historical Accounts hierarchy display on the FX Rates Override

form, which you use for entering rates.

After changing member properties, you need to refresh the database in

order to apply your changes.

To enter override rates and amounts, open the FX Rates Override form.

In the POV, select the entity for which to enter historical rates.

The form displays rows for all historical accounts in the FCCS Historical

Accounts hierarchy. For Historical Rate Override accounts, the Rate

Override column is available and the Amount Override column is read only.

You enter rates to translate from the base currency of the Entity in the POV

to the currencies in the rows.

For Common Stock, I'll enter a rate of .85 as the historical rate to translate

from Canadian Dollars to US Dollars for all periods.

Rates and amounts for historical overrides are stored in the Consol cube, so if you are loading rates

from a file or using Data Management, you should make the Consol cube your target.

For Amount Override accounts, the Amounts Override column is available and the Rates

Override column is read only.

You enter the translated value to use for the account.

For Paid In Capital, I'll enter 800,000 in the Amount Override column as the US dollars

translated value for the account for all periods.

It's not necessary to run the Compute Rates rule after you enter override

rates and amounts, since no triangulation is involved.

In this tutorial, we showed you how to configure foreign exchange rate and

amount overrides for historical accounts in Oracle Tax Reporting Cloud.

Report on a DOJ Grant Awarded to Philadelphia for the 2016 Democratic National Convention - Duration: 2:02.

Hello, I'm Michael Horowitz, Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Justice.

Today, our office released a report assessing a 49 million dollar Justice Department grant

to assist the city of Philadelphia in providing security for the 2016 Democratic National

Convention.

We've conducted similar audits of convention grants made to various cities since 2004,

and earlier this year we released our audit of the grant made to the city of Cleveland

for the 2016 Republican National Convention.

We found significant deficiencies in Philadelphia's management of the grant funds, and overall,

we identified over 14 million dollars in unallowable or unsupported expenditures.

We found that Philadelphia didn't have effective internal controls for grant administration.

For example, subrecipient partners of the grant award, which included state and local

law enforcement and the local public transit authority, did not have valid agreements with

Philadelphia.

And the city did not ensure that expenditures from these partners were accurate; which led

to us to identify over 7 million dollars in questioned costs.

We also found that certain actions by the Host Committee, a subrecipient of the grant

award, could have created the appearance of improper political influence and had the potential

to negatively impact the public's confidence in the integrity of the grant program.

We identified several other issues related to Philadelphia's management of the grant

funds, all of which are detailed in today's report.

To read the report, please visit our website oig.justice.gov, or go to Oversight.gov.

Thank you for joining us.
