2017 READS #100 | Is Fruits Basket Worth the Hype? [CC] - Duration: 2:11.

Hey, BookTube, it's Sylwia. Today I want to talk about the Fruits Basket manga and

why I think you should read it. So first of all Fruits Basket starts off

with one of my favorite bookish buzzwords and that's categorizing people.

Every single character, almost, has a Chinese zodiac sign that they represent

in a way, and that's something that if you're into Chinese astrology or if

you're into stuff like Hogwarts houses or the Divergent factions, you know, stuff

like that, you might enjoy this. The second reason I think everybody should

read this is that it puts a strong spotlight on relationships. It explores

parent-child relationships usually/mostly of the abusive type except for

the main daughter-mother relationship which is pretty great. So it has

parent-child relationships, siblings, friends, cousins, in general just

relationships and how much they mean.

My third reason is that every single

conflict is resolved in this story by discussing why traumas are survivable

and what the meaning of life is. My fourth reason is that the very MarySue

perfect character is believable. She does end up showing her flaws and her

insecurities and she makes sense as a character and she also teaches us how to

be lovable. My fifth reason is that it has the best love triangle resolution I

have ever seen. Everything I've ever wanted from a love triangle happens. The

sixth reason is that while it's a pretty long manga, there's no filler. Every

chapter and every scene is important to the main story. My seventh reason is that

the resolution is realistic and I thought that the progression of the plot

was realistic and clever and it made sense to everything that we loved in the

beginning and everything we wanted resolved. So those are my seven reasons

as to why Fruits Basket is absolutely worth the hype and why I recommend that
