I'm here on behalf of my son Gordon he is 22 he's been sick since he was 12
Hi my name is Jennifer Brea and I'm the director of Unrest, a documentary about
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis a devastating neuro-immune disease I'm also the
co-founder of MEAction, a global grassroots advocacy organization for
people living with ME. This year has been an incredible journey you all
worked so hard showing up at theaters, organizing screenings, hosting house
parties and encouraged your friends and family to watch and take action. Thanks
to your support and belief in this vision, the Time for Unrest campaign
reached millions. Together we changed the world
More people than ever before
understand that this disease is serious and that our future is worth fighting for
But we still have such a long way to go before every patient with ME can get
diagnosed, get the support they need, access treatments, and ultimately be
cured. And so now I want to talk about how we're going to win. I have been
inspired by successful movements of the past. The ones that have succeeded began
by mobilizing where they lived, first transforming the local communities,
bringing in allies, and building the power they needed to have impact on a
national and global scale. They grew from the bottom up
We win by building community reaching out to those who are undiagnosed getting
them access to the resources they need, empowering patients to support one
another, and to dream their dreams. Whether that's creating art, generating
knowledge, or organizing campaigns. We win by taking action where we live
educating our doctors, our hospitals, our schools, our elected officials about ME
We win by making our activism accessible. Some of us can take action in public,
some of us from our homes and bedrooms but no matter how we fight, we win by
doing it together, showing the world that this is a cause everyone should care
about and we win by bringing medical professionals into the movement, making
sure every physician has the tools they need and inspiring a new generation of
researchers to join this field. But we can't do this without you to help fund
#MEAction's work for the remainder of this year we need to raise $100,000 via
this IndieGoGo campaign. If you are able to give we are so grateful for your
support and if you can't give you can help by sharing this campaign on social
media and by supporting the fight for the millions missing this May 12th and
throughout the year. It will take time. We can't undo decades
of neglect in a single year and it is going to be hard but there's no greater
thing than to fight for your friends, to fight for
your community and along the way there will be victories and they will be
joyous. And I know that together if we keep growing this movement
We will change the world.
