Hi, I'm Veronica Lake and today, I'm talking with Tracey Spicer about rolling out a major national initiative with Women & Leadership
Australia to increase gender equity in workplaces across the country. Hi Tracey. Hi Veronica.
So, tell us why you decided to get involved with 100 Days for Change.
This is a tremendously exciting campaign because it means everyone can take a part in
acting towards women's equity and that can be anything from implementing a mentoring program to putting on a networking event
to
encouraging their company to do a gender pay audit. We can all play a part.
Why do you think it's the right time for an action-orientated initiative like this?
It's the right time because this is a seminal moment in history.
This is one of the great waves of feminism.
People will look back at this time and say, "Gosh,
we achieved so much during those decades." People are sick of all the talk and finally they want action.
Why do you think it's important
we all endeavor to make change and not rely on big business and government? In recent decades
big business and government have been putting in place some
tremendous policies and procedures.
But we've seen that they're simply not enough. We need
everyone on board with this, from the grassroots to the very top, to change the structures within workplaces
so every woman has an equal opportunity. And what do hope can be achieved through this initiative? I believe that through this initiative
we'll achieve long-term structural change that will last a lifetime. If each of us works together
we can break down those barriers that have been holding women back for centuries.
And what do you hope is it our initiative will lead to in the long term?
In the long term, this initiative will lead to true equality for women in the workplace.
And how can people get involved? You can get involved by logging on to
100daysforchange.com.au. Share the ideas that you're implementing or that your company's putting in place and
others can learn from it because we are stronger together.
Thanks, Tracey. Thanks, Veronica.
