Want to start a YouTube channel? Start today! Hi everybody, welcome back to my
channel! if you're new here thanks for joining and if you've already subscribed
thank you so so much! In today's video I'm going to give you
seven things to think about before starting a YouTube channel, so if you
have been thinking about starting a channel and you just haven't really
gotten around to it or you don't know how to go about starting this video is
gonna be really useful for you so stay tuned for all seven tips. These seven
things are based on my YouTube journey and what I've learned so far so I wanted
to be able to share them with you and inspire others to start creating now.
Make sure you stay tuned for the end because the last tip is literally the
most important tip that I could possibly share with you and I don't want you to
miss it so stay tuned till the end of the video. So without further ado let's
get right into these seven tips! Tip number one: find your why. When starting a
YouTube channel you really need to know why are you starting, why do you want to
create videos and share them with the world? Doing YouTube is not an easy hobby
especially if you want to grow an audience, so for example I will share
mind "why" with you. So my why comes from the fact that I had made some youtube
videos when I was in high school and as the years went on I would watch those I
would rewatch those old videos and they just brought me a lot of joy to see like
the kind of person I was when I was younger, like sixteen or
seventeen years old and so that's why I kind of decided
to start doing YouTube again last summer because I just wanted to be able to keep
saving memories and I remember just how happy it was and how much I enjoyed
editing and producing content. So before you even start, why do you want to make
youtube videos? Tip number two is find out who your audience is. So this is more
for if you want to build a channel like a larger audience you need to really
decide who your audience is and who's going to be watching your content. So if
you are a beauty youtuber then of course your audience is likely going to be
young females who are interested in beauty so in order to grow your channel
you'll want to make sure that every video that you upload tailors to that
audience. So this is mainly for people who want to throw a bigger audience and
yeah for me personally I started without knowing who my audience was and it was
fine because my goal wasn't really to build a huge audience but if that's your
goal you really have to start thinking about your audience early on so that all
the content you produce is going to be tailored to that audience. Tip number
three is get to know the platform. So when you upload to YouTube it's more
than just you film you hit upload and then you wait for people to watch your
video. There's a lot more that goes into it and in order to be successful you
need to be able to navigate the platform and know what works what doesn't so for
instance um I personally in the beginning didn't know a lot about the different
features in YouTube, so the watermark which you can see down there that I
recently added you probably if you've been following me you know that but that
watermark people can click on it and subscribe and that's really useful but
if you don't click around the platform and get to know it you would never have
that feature on your videos so make sure that you're getting to know
the platform early that way you can maximize on these different tools within
the YouTube website in order to build your channel. Tip number four: do you want
a big channel? Then think like a big channel. I've noticed that a lot of
people who have really small channels, they don't really put a lot of effort
into it and just because the fact that they think well I only have ten
subscribers I only have twenty and a 100 so what like what's the point what is it
even matter but I believe that if you want to have a big channel you need to
start acting like you already have it. So make sure your banner looks, good make
sure your icon looks good and kind of try and keep your homepage as clean and
organized as possible. I know smaller channels have less
features but you can always start early with different things like the banner,
make sure your thumbnails are on point, stuff like that, make sure that you are
doing what the big channels are doing if you want to grow you have to make it
look professional and that's the best way that I can kind of describe how you
can do that so if you want to get big think like a big channel.
Tip number five: consistency is key. I know that when you first start you're
gonna put your video up and you're going to wait for people to watch it and maybe
your friends and family on Facebook are gonna see it and then it's gonna die
you're gonna get like 10 or 20 views and it's gonna be really discouraging, I know
I remember I used to get around like 26 views per video and it was a little
discouraging because I put work into a video to have nobody watch it but what
you have to remember it is the more videos you have on your channel the more
chances there are for people to find your channel, so make sure you're
consistent from the beginning start uploading weekly if you really want to
be serious about building a channel. I highly recommend you do weekly just
because it's going to show people that you're there. If you have a schedule
that's even better so people know when to come back to your channel but just
remember you have to stay consistent. Tip number six is be your authentic self. So
I know it's really really tempting to try and mimic or do some of the things
that the more famous youtubers are doing. For example if you see someone make a
video you shouldn't go up and just make that
same exact video just because you want people to click on it or get views. The
best way that you're going to succeed in YouTube is if your being your authentic
self and making content that is inspired by you.
So being authentic and making content that is true to yourself is actually
going to help you grow, just because your audience is gonna know. So for example I
did make a video that I personally didn't it didn't really resonate with me
I didn't enjoy it so it was a song reaction, I know a lot
of people really enjoy seeing those and somebody had requested me to do it so I
made one and I just didn't really find much joy in it because it's not really
me, it wasn't really my favorite content to produce. So if you don't make content
that you love your audience probably isn't gonna love it either. Like you'll
still get the views probably because you can get like the title, thumbnail the
thing that people want to see but in the long run you're not going to be happy
because you're making stuff that doesn't really relate to you. So number six is to
just be authentic and make content that is true to yourself. The last tip number..
number seven: do not make goals around subscriber count or view count.
You cannot control these things, you will not be happy when you make these
goals and you don't reach them and it's not because you're a failure or whatever
the heck but if you keep looking at those numbers you're going to feel awful.
So for my personal goals I usually have one very important goal which is I
upload twice a week, so you know I upload every Tuesday and Friday at 9:00 a.m. so
my audience can expect the video and I feel like that is the best goal to have
because like I mentioned in a previous tip, consistency is extremely important
on YouTube so if you make a goal to be consistent and you put your number goal
as how many uploads you want you get per week or per month, that's gonna go way
further then "oh I want to have a 100 subscribers next month", that's not gonna
work, so make sure that when you're making
goals they are goals that you can control, so how many times you upload, how
you're gonna learn how to edit, one of my goals is usually to try and learn new
editing tips or stuff like that, things that are going to improve my content and
my overall channel and with that you're going to get
more subscribers and more views so that's the best way to think about your
goals. So those are the seven things to keep in mind if you want to start a
