We want people to get to know us.

Support for the military has never been greater,

but a lot of people don't necessarily understand why they support the military.

A lot of people are very familiar with the negatives that come along with serving,

but are not necessarily aware of all of the positives.

Right now less than 1% of the population is serving in the military.

Less and less people in America

are having a direct connection with a service member.

The Department of Defense with This is Your Military initiative,

we're going to reach out to an audience

that we're not used to talking to, a non-defense audience.

We're going to use our social media platforms,

we're going to be using lots of modern video techniques

to tell the message of the service members.

We have an incredible all-volunteer force.

Very young individuals who make these life and death decisions

and they have absolutely priceless leadership skills.

The wider that civilian-military divide grows, the more it threatens the

viability and the sustainability of that all-volunteer force.

This initiative is not about people joining the military.

This is about getting Americans to learn about their military

and the people who are serving and what it means to serve.

That is a service member!

That is what a veteran looks like!

China is Winning the Hypersonic Arms Race - Duration: 6:11.

On this episode of China Uncensored,

welcome to the arm show.

Welcome back to China Uncensored,

I'm Chris Chappell.

the US and China are in an arms race.

A hypersonic missile arms race.

Oh, and Russia is involved too.

And China is winning.

An anonymous US government source

told the Diplomat that in November,

China conducted two tests

of a hypersonic glide vehicle,

or HGV.

That makes it, "the first HGV test in the world

using a system intended to be fielded operationally."

It's called the Dong Feng, or Eastern Wind, 17.

And it's estimated to be ready to deploy by 2020.

The DF-17 is the first missile system

that uses a hypersonic glide vehicle.

The United States and Russia

have both conducted developmental tests, too—

but neither country is known to have taken

concrete steps towards deploying these systems.

So how fast is the DF-17?

Well, in a China test flight on November 1,

it flew 870 miles in 11 minutes.

That would be like going from New York

to St. Louis in 11 minutes.

Although why anyone would be in

such a hurry to get to St. Louis is beyond me.

But anyway,

the missile they tested traveled at Mach 6—

or 6 times the speed of sound.

And three times the speed of the Mach 3 razor.

Oh, and by the way,

this kind of missile can theoretically be designed

to carry a nuclear bomb.

That's a big concern for US defense officials.

Doug Wise of the Defense Intelligence Agency points out that while the US has focused

its military attention on the Middle East,

ISIS probably won't be able to

actually destroy America.

"You want to talk about an existential threat?

How about China's hypersonic glide missile,

which can travel at

multiple times the speed of sound

and could take out an aircraft carrier

before you could even blink?

If the entire Pacific Fleet was at

the bottom of the Pacific Ocean,

that would pose an existential threat."

Hypersonic missiles work differently

than conventional ballistic ones.

These don't enter space.

Instead, they fly low at high speeds,

allowing them to hide from traditional radar scans.

There's a lot more complicated to design, though,

because aerodynamics are different

at ultra-high speeds.

And it seems China may

surpass the United States

in hypersonic missile testing facilities.

According to the South China Morning Post,

"China is building the world's fastest wind tunnel

to simulate hypersonic flight at speeds

of up to 7 and half miles per second"—

or Mach 35.

Which is the kind of razor that I use.

It's very manly.

Just to give you an idea,

Mach 35 is nearly six times faster

than the hypersonic missile China built

and tested in November.

But it gives you a really close shave.

A missile traveling at Mach 35

could reach the west coast of the United States

from China in less than 14 minutes.

Don't worry; this one's still just

a prototype in a wind tunnel.

But here's how it gets to Mach 35:

It explodes tubes of oxygen, hydrogen,

and nitrogen gases.

That not only produces incredible speed,

but also incredible heat.

Prototype vehicles placed in the new wind tunnel

reach temperatures, "nearly 50 percent hotter

than the surface of the sun."

After China, the second-fasted wind tunnel

is in the US.

It's called the LENS-X.

But it can only simulate speeds

up to Mach 28—

compared to China's Mach 35.

It's like Chinese engineers

are just mocking us.

China's state-run CCTV recently released

this footage of their current wind tunnel

and hypersonic glider,

the JF-12 Hyper Dragon.

Yes, Hyper Dragon.

Coming soon to Nintendo Switch.

You'll need really fast reflexes.

Of course the main fear is not so much

that the Chinese Communist Party

will nuke the United States.

It's that if China is the first to successfully develop

these super-hypersonic missiles,

it will change the balance of power

in the Asia Pacific region.

Because of their incredible speed

and lower flight path,

hypersonic missiles could get through

US missile defense systems in Asia—

like THAAD in South Korea.

"Once the THAAD radars fail to

function in the first stage,

it could reduce the window

to raise the alarm

about the PLA's intercontinental ballistic missiles

leaving the U.S. without enough time to intercept."

But don't worry,

there would still be plenty of time

for the State of Hawaii to issue an alert...

that everyone ignores this time.

Fortunately, US weapons maker Lockheed Martin

is already talking about an update to THAAD

to handle hypersonic missiles.

The bigger concern is the proliferation

of hypersonic weapons in the 21st century.

The Rand Corporation,

not be confused with Rand Enterprises

from everyone's least favorite Netflix Marvel show,

Iron Fist,

warns it could lead to countries

adopting a "launch on warning" defense policy.

That's when a counter strike is launched

before incoming missiles reach their targets.

Next month, the Trump Administration

will release a new Nuclear Posture Review.

Will the administration tackle the issue

of hypersonic proliferation?

What do you think?

Leave your comments below.

Thanks for watching this episode of China Uncensored.

Once again I'm your host Chris Chappell.

See you next time.

Hypersonic missiles sure move fast.

But don't worry,

you still have plenty of time

to get to your underground bunker

and switch on your favorite episodes

of China Uncensored.

You can even watch the full half-hour versions

on our website, ChinaUncensored.tv.

How else would you want to spend your time

before the missiles hit?

Story About Angelina Jolie Being "Anxious To Fall In Love Again" Is Fake News - Duration: 6:38.

Story About Angelina Jolie Being "Anxious To Fall In Love Again" Is Fake News

HollywoodLife, which routinely manufactures fake news about Angelina Jolie, tries to dupe its readers in a new article into believing it has an exclusive about how the actress is "anxious to fall in love again.

" The story, however, is completely fabricated and is filled with a number of made-up quotations from a seemingly fictitious "source close close to Angelina.

For the record, Gossip Cop has been told on several occasions from a member of Jolie's camp that no one "close" to the actress is sharing personal information with a site so known for its falsehoods that it's often referred to as HollywoodLies.

What's more, despite the blog now claiming Jolie has been "putting her kids' lives before her own when it comes to finding love," that same untrustworthy outlet previously spun story after story for months about her being in love with a mysterious British billionaire and even being on the verge of marrying the unnamed (and actually nonexistent) man.

Basically, as we've noted before, the online publication just makes up lies, and then when it's caught, it simply moves forward without ever acknowledging its deceitful practices.

In its latest piece of fiction, the website asserts Jolie is "itching to get back on the dating scene.

" To bolster its made-up tale about the Oscar-winner wanting to find love and be in a relationship, the often discredited blog has an almost assuredly make-believe "source" quoted as saying, "Angie is a mother first and a actress second… the thing that takes the back seat is her quest for love.

" The same apparently fictional insider adds, "She'd love to be with someone but… she is not holding her breath.

That's interesting, considering last April HollywoodLies began crafting phony stories about how Jolie was having secret rendezvous in Malibu with her "new man," who the site described as a "handsome British entrepreneur with strong political ties," yet curiously he had no name.

In one particular work of fiction, the website's fake "source" swore all of Jolie's dates were "behind closed doors," and that "Angelina finds the secrecy of their romance sexy and exciting.".

Other tall tales from HollywoodLies even stated that Jolie was "getting married" to her unnamed rich British boyfriend, first in the new home she bought herself in L.A. and then in Cambodia.

In the fabricated article about her exchanging vows in Asia with the mystery Englishman, the website shared phony details about the nuptials, including how it was going to take place on a wildlife reserve and Jolie was going to have "Shiloh, Zahara, and Vivienne as bridesmaids and Maddox as the groom's best man… Pax will DJ and bake the cake for the reception.".

Incredibly, even after Gossip Cop exposed the site for its pattern of lying, it published yet another made-up claim just three weeks ago about Jolie dating Cambodian rapper PraCh Ly.

In that bogus report, the outlet said Jolie was "smitten" and that she and Ly were a "perfect match." Not once did HollywoodLies question whether the romantic was real.

And yet, after all of its well-documented lies about her supposedly being on the verge of marriage or recently falling "hard" for Ly, the outlet would now like its visitors to believe it has "exclusive" information about how Jolie is "anxious to fall in love again," but is holding off on dating and a relationship.

For the record, like many single moms, the actress has put her love life on the back burner for her kids.

In Vanity Fair's cover story about Jolie in September, which was even titled "Angie Solo," she discussed at length how she's "now doing it alone," without a man in her life.

Irrespective of her own words, HollywoodLife continued to publish fake news stories about Jolie's alleged romances until it came up with its new phony article about how she's suddenly "itching to get back on the dating scene."

Despite its track record for manufacturing bogus reports, Gossip Cop still fact-checked with a Jolie confidante, and we were told unequivocally that no one close to the actress is discussing her love life with that site.

Our impeccable insider says the blog's latest claims are nothing more than bad guesses and lies.

What is stopping you from reaching the moon? | Fanny Passeport, ISTE 2017 Ignite - Duration: 5:15.

a few years ago I was a teacher isolated in my classroom with wild and crazy

ideas that my students fully supported like using minecraft to learn French but

that I was afraid to share with my colleagues. using a game in the classroom?

I was first in contact with moonshot thinking during the Google teacher

Academy where I had to design a solution to a problem in my context this made me

realize that as an educator we need to take risks in education. in 2015

Esther Wojcicki wrote this very inspiring book that is all about the "what ifs" or

the "what coulds" the endless possibilities that we educators are driven by to make

learning meaningful here and now. although moonshot appears scary to begin

with, change will only happen with divergent thinking getting out of our

comfort zone and challenging insecurities. this means we need to be

ready to expose ourselves and fail forward. moonshot thinking also

encompasses the idea of transformation to transform the community we also need

to transform ourselves in the process never settle for good and always strive

for greatness. in the initial stages moonshot thinking feels like chaos for

example a bunch of students trying to use Minecraft for the first time, believe

me this is messy, but pretty quickly engagement takes over and the dust settles

so moonshot is also allowing ourselves

to ask killer questions that challenge traditional assumptions and force

individuals to consider new alternatives. for example, does the library really

needs to be silent? obstacles are often optical illusions this involves positive

thinking being a "yes" person or better a "yes and" person change makers keep

looking at the big pictures, the dream, and they work through those barriers,

those "yes buts" like Sheryl Sandberg says what would you do if you weren't afraid?

think about that superpower. what is that one thing that you would do with this at

the same time we need to be prepared for our adventure, ready to listen to

feedback and criticism, to change our trajectory, or take longer than expected

from my experience, there are three barriers to our learning to our success

one the lack of confidence don't think that people around you are on a mission

to say no to everything you suggest start by believing in your own

ideas and trust yourself and others more 2. The fear of failing do you remember

when you first learned to ride a bicycle? learning is a trial and error process

when you fall get back on that bike and keep riding. 3. the lack of stamina

because someone you shared your idea with didn't buy in

doesn't mean it was a bad idea keep trying you will find followers and in

the process your idea will evolve and get better. when I joined my current school

as an edtech coach my moonshot was to empower the community to be critical and

creative users of technology. empowerment is a creative process not a

consumer one, it is not something done to you but something that comes out of you

to achieve my moonshot I knew that people were going to scrutinize me to

see whether I was practicing what I preached so it's not an imitation game

when you model something, you model a process that people can appropriate to

meet their own needs and passions I also needed to facilitate and create an

environment that would foster creativity and community empowerment for example we

introduced family maker mornings where parents come to make with the students

this initiative encouraged the community to embark on the moonshot journey

together through creativity and innovation. I would like you to take a

minute to think about what this means in your context but given the Ignite

coordinators are misers, you only get a few seconds [laughter]

so I would like you to really think about what could be your moonshot what

is that wild and crazy idea you have and you could implement in your school so

let's recap you have now come up with a radical solution to solve the problem

you will need three weapons in your armory: confidence, perseverance and resilience

and you must commit to facilitate and model those with your

mindset and your actions so go ahead throw yourself into the unexpected you

are who you decide to be to infinity and beyond this is the goal we are going for

thank you

When Heart Surgery is Personal: Meet Dr. Mark Galantowicz - Duration: 1:26.

As a surgeon most of the times that I spend with them are often the most

intense times because it's the scariest riskiest time. But that sort of sets the

stage for them... everything else that goes on.

About one out of a hundred children born have some form of heart abnormality

and trying to improve their outcomes, especially their long-term outcomes,

I mean it's very personal and meeting

with them prenatally it's often about, you know... what will our life be like, what

will our child's life be like. It becomes very personal in a hurry and that's why

I think it's very important for them to really know what that could look like,

know what the options are, know what the impact is. And then really be side by

side with them through that. You know honestly the best part is when somebody

like Knox's parents, basically a baby who parents were just petrified that they

weren't gonna have a normal life... in a couple years, they send me a card and

they share that the kid is just doing all the normal things that a baby should

do. That just is incredibly rewarding and brings a smile to my face every time.

Olivier Giroud seals Chelsea move from Arsenal but is SNUBBED by Antonio Conte - Duration: 2:09.

Olivier Giroud seals Chelsea move from Arsenal but is SNUBBED by Antonio Conte

Giroud joins Arsenal's London rivals for £18m after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang arrived at the Emirates. Giroud said: "Chelsea is one of the biggest teams in the Premier League. They have won maybe the most trophies in the last six or seven years.

It's a massive club and I am proud to sign for Chelsea, and I'm looking forward to playing." Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: "Olivier is a proven talent at the top level and we are very pleased to call him a Chelsea player.

"He has scored goals regularly throughout his career and is well accustomed to English football and the Premier League.

We are sure he will be a fantastic signing." However there was no comment from Conte despite him requesting a new striker. Giroud signed as Michy Batshuayi joins Borussia Dortmund on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Arsenal posted a heart-felt message on Twitter saying: "For the scorpion kicks, the bullet headers, the late strikes, the north London derby winner, the FA Cup final assists, the 105 goals, the 253 appearances and for all the hard work and dedication, we want to say… "THANK YOU, OLIVIER GIROUD,"   Giroud moves on from the Emirates as he looks to earn a place at the World Cup after only starting one Premier League game for Arsenal this season.

He could come back to haunt the Gunners as they look to earn a spot in the top four. Last night's defeat to Swansea sees them eight points off the top four.

The Government is Going to Shut Down Again (And That's Bad) - Duration: 4:47.

Hello I'm ethically-sourced Andrew Heaton

and you're sustainably watching Mostly Weekly.

Put down the tide pod.

Congratulations, we survived the Government Shutdown!

this is our 19th shutdown since 1976.

when we hit 20 we get a free coffee!

But brace yourself for another government shutdown.

And another.

And another.

And another.

Congress avoided a shutdown this time due to the revolutionary technology of,

and I'm not making this up… a "talking stick."

Apparently Congress couldn't talk about immigration policy without a talking stick

to determine who can talk.

Which is juvenile and I think we can all agree that in 20-

Excuse me I have the talking stick, Sarah, please, please would you please, thank you.

Thank you.

Congress stopped the shutdown this time by passing what's called a "Continuing Resolution"

which just means that government funding continues as-is until Congress actually passes a budget.

Continuing Resolutions work, but not well.

They don't account for reallocating funding if the value of programs has shifted,

or if they can be retired.

And sadly, the last time we went an entire year without resorting to a CR was 1997.

We've been running on Continuing Resolutions since October,

and, presumably, we will be running on them

up until the Winfrey administration takes over.

Now it's true, many libertarians

view the federal government as one big Human Resources Department with guns.

And I can understand why you might think a shutdown

would be cause for libertarians to celebrate.

But you'd be wrong.

Yes, The government is bloated and inefficient,

and we should amputate several of its appendages.

But a government shutdown doesn't actually accomplish anything.

It doesn't shrink the size of federal agencies, it doesn't save money;

it's even counterproductive to limited government in the long term.

Let me explain.

No shrinkage.

As soon as the federal government reboots:

all the government agencies, drug wars, and bureaucrats are still there.

In fact a lot of them never left.

Here are some government functions that are unaffected by shutdowns:

Expense.

Nor do we save any money during a government shutdown.

Social Security, entitlements, and defense spending

don't get their funding cut or reformed.

Plus, like something out of the Twilight Zone,

government shutdowns actually costs America more

than if the government had just stayed active.

Portrait of a country where government costs more to shut down than to actually run,

where non-essential employees get paid in the future for past inactivity.

A country within… the Twilight zone.

And shutdowns are expensive.

According to Standard & Poor, the US economy lost $24 billion dollars

during the two weeks of the 2013 government shutdown

that's $1.5 billion per day.

How?

Shutdowns cause mass inefficiencies

that take a heavy economic toll on the private sector.

The shutdown delays business transactions requiring federal permits,

it postpones court cases, and restricts travel by withholding passports.

Plus museums and parks can't collect fees

which takes revenue from the agencies, and hurts tourism.

In 2013 about 40% of non-military federal employees were considered non essential

and they were furloughed, which is a way to say, temporarily laid off.

But as soon as these forlorn furloughed federal employees come back, they get backpaid.

In other words, a government shutdown

is basically a mandated, paid vacation for federal employees.

So the government winds up spending the same amount than it would have if it stayed open,

but without providing the services our tax dollars are paying for.

That means veterans may not get their checks, unemployment benefits stop,

tax rebates cease, and vacations to our finest national monuments get scuttled.

Backlash

A government shutdown may even hurt the cause of small government in the long-run.

When societies lose faith in their institutions they tend to embrace authoritarianism.

When the government doesn't work, people tend to respond by seeking,

you guessed it, more government.

It's like trying to drink yourself sober,

or dealing with playground bullies by giving one of the bullies a chainsaw.

It would be great if we shrunk the government.

But the government we have should be lean and efficient, helpful and simple.

Sort of like-

A talking stick.

The way towards limited government is through debate and legislation,

and giving people and markets time to adjust.

Shutdowns are the opposite of that

they're a combination partisan, squabbling and incompetency,

hash tag parti-squab-petency.

The only way past perpetual shutdowns

is if our elected leaders act like civil adults trying to solve a common problem.

Bipartisanship--

Is Propane Better Than Oil For Space Heating? - Duration: 0:51.

[Intro music]

[Builder:] Call me old fashioned, but I've been using heating oil to power the homes that I build

as long as I've been in business.

My customers don't see the need to change, and neither do I.

Why fix what isn't broken? [Buzzer]

[Risinger:] Heating oil's days as a competitive fuel for powering homes are numbered, and wise contractors

are helping their customers make the conversion to other power sources today.

I'm Matt Risinger, construction scientist.

For homes in areas where oil is common, propane can be an attractive solution.

Unlike oil, propane is a lightweight and clean-burning fuel that can be stored in an on-site tank

outside of the home, which can be safely buried to hide it from view.

You can't do that with oil.

When Is the Next Lunar Eclipse & Blood Moon? || SML News - Duration: 5:37.

When Is the Next Lunar Eclipse & Blood Moon?

Lunar Eclipse Blood Moon.

This morning we had a spectacular view of the lunar eclipse: a moon with hues of red known as the Blood Moon.

And because this was the second full moon of the month and a slightly larger moon than normal, the whole thing was called the "Super Blue Blood Moon." All those things happening at once are pretty rare.

Unlike September 2015, when we got to see the eclipse at night, we had to watch this one in the morning, which wasn't quite as much fun.

How long will we have to wait until the next lunar eclipse?.

The next lunar eclipse is July 27 of this year.

But don't get too excited yet.

The July lunar eclipse won't be visible in the U.S.

this time around.

You can only see it if you're in Africa, the Middle East, or India.

The United States won't see another lunar eclipse with a blood moon until January 21, 2019, about a year from now.

The 2019 eclipse will be visible over northwest Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

In a lunar eclipse, the Earth is between the moon and the sun, and all three objects are in perfect alignment, as NASA explains.

Therefore, the earth is creating a shadow on the moon's surface, making it turn red.

The lunar eclipse can only happen when there's a full moon, but it doesn't happen every time there's a full moon because the moon is about 5 degrees off from perfect alignment with earth's orbital plane, notes EarthSky.

Today's lunar eclipse might have also gotten you thinking about the solar eclipse.

In a solar eclipse, the moon is between the Earth and the sun, so the moon blocks the sun.

If you're in the path of totality today, it will get so dark for about two to three minutes that you will be able to see planets in the middle of the day.

So when is the next solar eclipse? Unlike partial solar eclipses, which are returning in 2018, the next total solar eclipse isn't until July 2, 2019.

But you won't be able to see it in the U.S.

Totality will be visible from the southern Pacific Ocean east of New Zealand, to the Coquimbo Region in Chile, and Argentina at sunset.

This one will be about twice as long as the one today.

The maximum visible time will be 4 minutes 32 seconds from the Pacific Ocean.

The next total solar eclipse after that is December 14, 2020.

Its path is similar to the eclipse that was on February 26.

Like the July 2019 eclipse, this one will be visible from Chile and Argentina.

Then after that, you'll have to wait until December 4, 2021.

This will be an unusual eclipse, with totality moving from east to west across Antarctica.

Most eclipses move from west to east.

The next total solar eclipse in the United States won't happen until April 8, 2024.

This one will have a line of totality crossing Texas, through the Midwest, and over Indianapolis, Cleveland, Buffalo NY, over New England, and passing over Maine and New Brunswick, Canada.

And we won't see the next coast-to-coast solar eclipse in the U.S.

until August 12, 2045.

Who Is Sitting Behind Trump During the State of the Union? || SML News - Duration: 6:19.

Who Is Sitting Behind Trump During the State of the Union?

U.S.

Vice President Mike Pence (L) and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R) applaud after U.S.

President Donald J.

Trump delivers his first address to a joint session of the U.S.

Congress on February 28, 2017.

During tonight's State of the Union address, President Donald Trump will be sharing his plan for the coming year and his hope for working together with Democrats on some of his goals for the country.

While you're watching the State of the Union tonight, you may be wondering one question in particular: Who's sitting behind Trump while he's speaking to Congress and the nation?.

Vice President Mike Pence and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan are sitting behind Trump during his State of the Union speech tonight. Although there's no rule requiring that this happens, this is the tradition for every State of the Union speech.

The top leaders of the Senate and the House always sit behind the President while he gives his State of the Union speech to a joint session of Congress.

The Vice President is the top leader of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House is the top leader for the House.

Other things you might want to watch for during the speech include the special guests that Democrats and Republicans bring.

You'll want to watch to see if Trump goes off-script (and maybe count how many times he says "fake news.") You'll also want to keep an eye out for protests during the SOTU.

Will anyone shout something out to Trump while he's speaking? How many people will be wearing all black as a sign of solidarity for the women who speak out against sexual harassment?.

Also, you'll want to watch the response speeches after the State of the Union concludes. After Trump speaks, Rep.

Joe Kennedy will deliver the Democrats' official response to the State of the Union.

He will deliver his response from his home state rather than attending the speech in person, The Washington Post reported.

Elizabeth Guzman, a member of the Virginia state legislature, will also deliver a Spanish-language response, officially sponsored by the Democrats.

But Progressives will be delivering responses of their own, official or not.

Sen.

Bernie Sanders will also deliver a response to the State of the Union via social media.

Rep.

Maxine Waters from California will also give a response during a BET news special.

And Donna F.

Edwards, a former Maryland Congresswoman, will also give an address for the Working Families Party.

Democrats are bringing quite a few guests.

These include Chessy Prout (victim of sexual assault and guest of Rep.

Annie Kuster); dozens of young immigrants who are part of the DACA program, including Karen Bahena, Melody Klingenfuss, and Nicolle Uria; and Cindy Garcia (her husband was deported after 30 years in the U.S., guest of Rep.

Debbie Dingell).

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump announced that the following guests will be seated with the First Lady during the speech: Corey Adams (a welder); Elizabeth Alvarado, Robert Mickens, Evelyn Rodriguez, and Freddy Cuevas (parents of girls murdered by MS-13); Corporal (Ret.) Matthew Bradford (blinded by shrapnel and lost both his legs in Iraq, then reenlisted); Jon Bridgers (founded the Cajun Navy); David Dahlberg (a fire prevention technician); Officer Ryan Holets (police officer who's been shot twice); Ashlee Leppert (aviation electronics technician who rescued Americans during hurricanes); Agent Celestino "CJ" Martinez (supervisory special agent for Homeland Security); Staff Sergeant Justin Peck (U.S.

Army, saved an officer struck by an IED); Preston Sharp (organized flags at veterans' graves); and Steve Staub and Sandy Keplinger (started Staub Manufacturing Solutions).

A Mutational Timer Is Built Into the Chemistry of DNA - Duration: 1:56.

[Music]

When our cells divide, the DNA within must replicate so each new cell receives the same

set of instructions.

Molecular machines known as polymerases copy DNA by recognizing the right base pair combinations

– G with C and A with T. These are known as Watson Crick base pairs.

When the polymerase recognizes a matching base pair, it adds the base to the new double helix.

And it discards those base pairs that don't fit together correctly, such as G and T.

[Music]

Though they are good at their job, polymerases are known to slip up from time to time.

Watson and Crick hypothesized that DNA bases might be able to change their shape so that

mispairs could pass as the real thing.

Using a technique called NMR, Duke scientists caught bases G and T nudging aside atoms on

their surface so they could connect like puzzle pieces.

They found that these mismatches can take two different shapes

and each shape dominates under different conditions.

Though rare, these mismatches could serve as the basis of genetic changes that drive

evolution and diseases like cancer.

Climate change is a problem we can solve - Duration: 2:20.

Climate change is a problem we can solve. I think it's also a problem we have to

solve. There's really no option here. And we can solve it because the kind of

investments that you're talking about are relatively minor compared to the

cost of not acting. You know, it's the old saying: You can pay me now, or you can pay me

later. If we don't make those investments now, the cost is going to go up very

dramatically, and we will simply not have some of the options that we have now.

Well, the great news about the things that we need to do to address climate

change is that they will have co-benefits. For example, if we can reduce

carbon emissions and clean up the air we'll have a drop in respiratory

illnesses, asthma, and related illnesses. If we can figure out ways to make our vulnerable

populations less vulnerable to sea level rise and violent weather, obviously

we'll improve the health and safety of a lot of people and just generally will

help farmers because they will be able to be more resilient in terms of

providing food for New Jersey. We'll help the recreation industry. I mean, right now

at the Jersey Shore, that's a huge tourism industry. If we continue to have

the kind of violent storms and we are not more prepared for them that tourism

industry is in serious jeopardy. These are the kind of things that are

common-sense things that we need to do for the environment and they will have

co-benefits across the whole spectrum of policies. And one of the things we're

seeing right now that I think is most helpful is that there are lots of

people picking up on how do we implement the Paris Accords and how do we meet

those goals. And ironically that leadership is coming from states, it's

coming from corporations, it's coming from the nonprofit sector. They're making

the investments necessary because they know that it's good for the economy and

it's smart business. And we really don't have a choice.

What is Resilience - Duration: 4:35.

So resilience is the ability to cope, navigate, and thrive in the face of adversity.

And resilience is not something you either have or you don't.

It's actually an innate human ability that we all have the capacity to develop.

Ann Masten, who is a researcher in the area of resilience, has said that the surprise

of resilience research has been that it's ordinary magic, in that it's a common human

experience.

The research tells us that anywhere from a half to two thirds of children who have had

adverse childhood experiences go on to thrive and live well-adjusted successful lives.

So this is something that we all have the innate ability to be and it's just a matter

of nurturing that capacity in kids.

There are many ways in which culture can impact a person's experience of trauma and resilience.

There can be experiences of complex trauma, which may include experiences of war or of

migration.

There can also be experiences of historical trauma that some children struggle to overcome

and those may be passed down inter-generationally.

Experiences like forced-acculturation, slavery, genocide.

And so all of these factors kind of play a role in a person's experiences of trauma in

their lifetime and their pathway to resilience.

The important thing about culture is that it cuts across all of the factors that promote

resilience.

Culture influences our values.

It dictates kind of what values, what skills, what abilities are valued in a person.

And in that way, culture can really have an impact on promoting certain resiliency factors

over others.

They're intertwined in this way and it's really important to take a look at how a person's

culture may influence the way that they demonstrate resilience.

If we can look at resilience as an adaptation, which is what it really is, then we're looking

at it from a strength-based perspective.

We're seeing it as a strength that a person has.

An adaptation is a positive thing.

There is a quote that I want to share from Psychology Today that I read just the other

day.

And it really captured, I think, what was important about this process.

It says, "The healing process isn't about becoming who you might have been had you not

experienced trauma.

It's about integrating the wisdom you've gained from that experience into your life."

And I feel like that perfectly encapsulates the process of moving through healing toward

resilience.

Resilience is a process in that it's something that really has no end.

There's not a point at which you can declare, "I've done it.

I'm resilient.

I'm finished."

It's something that is an ever-evolving thing, just like the narrative of life is.

And we can also think about it in terms of the parallel process of healing.

Both are kind of a pathway that we're on.

Some of the challenges to defining resilience and thinking about it are that we don't really

have a clear definition on what it means to be resilient.

What are we talking about?

Are we talking about the absence of negative outcomes?

Are we talking about the absence of mental health diagnoses?

What exactly?

How do we know?

What are the indicators that say to us, "Okay, you have achieved resilience."

Is there a certificate that I get and who signs that certificate?

And if I stray from that path and experience some negative consequences of childhood trauma,

does that mean I'm no longer resilient?

I don't believe that's the case.

I believe that we're on a path and that that is what resilience is about.

It's about walking that path and sometimes we take steps back and sometimes we take steps

forward.

A Change of Leadership is Coming: Humble Yourself Today - Duration: 55:27.

but at Christ's return the people of the earth will not be humble and willing to

learn they will be angry and they will be defiant they will shake their fists

in defiance at Jesus Christ when he returns that needs to change if he is to

create a joy-filled world ruled in peace well that just needs to change we can't

have that kind of thinking but it won't change it won't change while the driving

force behind that very way of thinking and acting is still functioning the Day

of Atonement teaches us about how that change of mind begins and it also

teaches us about how that change of leadership begins when Christ returns

that's the beginning of a transfer of power a transfer of power and of

authority all the governments and societies and religions and economies

and culture of humanity are now and will be until that time under the authority

of Satan he's the reigning spiritual force over humanity and he has this

authority at God's pleasure God allows it to be so but only for an allotted

time and that time will come to an end and today is kind of like the the day

that we mark the end of that time that Satan's been given when it ends God has

decreed that all power and authority be given to the Son of man - Jesus Christ -

the returning Messiah the transfer of power that we're talking about that

takes place is not the result of a long struggle between good and

it is not between competing powers and God versus Satan or Jesus versus Satan

and that finally one wins out that's not the case at all but this is a transfer

of power that is a scheduled event it is a scheduled event and that whole matter

and that whole agenda has already been decided by God now if you think about

think about it this way this this was a great example we just went through last

year the country elected a new president all right so the president the new

president was elected on November the second but the person who was president

before was still in power until January 20th so there was a transfer of power

and it was going to happen at a certain time it had already been decided but it

just hadn't happened yet does that make sense well in the same way over of

course a much longer time the matter has been decided and the transfer of power

is going to take place and Jesus Christ will be brought into into office if you

want to use that analogy so a change of leadership a change of leadership is

what we're here to talk about today on the day of atonement

we have other holy days there's seven annual holy days and they can be looked

at from a variety of different angles but today I'd like to look at them as an

instruction or a revealing of how this change of leadership has been planned

out well first we've got the biblical festivals of the spring season Passover

days of unleavened bread and just for the sake of keeping it simple let me

throw Pentecost in there as well okay the biblical festivals of the spring

season teach us about the preparations that God is making and that are in

process for that upcoming time of change over a long period of time before

Christ's return pioneer group a pioneer group is drawn out of humanity and

through God's church and the power of the Holy Spirit

Christ prepares and trains this group to work with him so this is a preparation

that's being taken care of in advance waiting for this time to come these

people who are prepared and trained will be raised to new life at the return of

Jesus Christ and they will work together with Christ when he returns to rule the

nations of the earth

now the biblical festivals of the fall season these teach us about God's future

plans for establishing righteous rule and government on earth okay the

festivals of the fall season teach us about God's future plans so as I

mentioned before they are prophetic in nature teaching us about things that are

yet to come God's future plans for establishing righteous rule and

government on earth as well as bringing salvation to all humanity but that's

kind of even beyond what we're talking about today with the change of

leadership salvation will be brought to all humanity so even those who long ago

lived and died without access to God's word of truth or any kind of true

understand about the purpose and the everlasting

future of human life they had none of that those people will be part of God's

plan of salvation that that they have folk this change of leadership this

change of leadership is going to change everything it is going to change life on

earth as we know it and that's a good thing it's going to change everything

because it represents a completely new and different way of thinking a

completely different and new way of thinking and that new way of thinking

begins with Jesus Christ if you think back to the spring holy days and that

preparations for this future transfer of leadership Jesus Christ the new ruler

has demonstrated has already demonstrated his worthiness to rule all

right among many other things he's shown us that what are some key points of that

worthiness to rule what makes Christ worthy to rule why is he a better

alternative for a better choice or better option well it's not really an

option why is he just better than what we've got now these points are simple

but they're very important he's submitted to and obeyed the Father he

lived a life of perfect humility and He gave His life to pay the debt that you

owed and that that sacrifice is the supreme representation of his humility

and his obedience and his love for you these are the things that qualify

someone for leadership for righteous leadership

very different qualifications and I think what we've got on display in our

world around us right now seems like the qualities now are you know if you quick

on your feet and loud and you know get attention and stuff like that and

basically do whatever it takes but Jesus Christ has demonstrated his worthiness

to rule and Christ's rule will reflect this this character very simple but very

profound pieces of the puzzle particularly humility his rule will

reflect this character and he will take over the rule of all things physical and

all things spiritual on earth now the previous administration will be

completely swept away gone done everybody who's involved in it dawn

they'll be replaced and it only then when this happens when this transfer of

power takes place in with the new Oh with the old only then will the violence

and the corruption and the greed that we see now be replaced with a way of peace

and cooperation and focus on this as well joy filled living only then when

this transfer of power takes place can all those things come to pass

when Christ rules he will not rule alone Christ's

government will extend over all the nations and all the peoples of the earth

he will also at that time have some who rule with him and assist now most people

I think a lot of people out there figure well that means the Angels you know the

angels they're the helpers of God so those are those are the ones who would

help Christ rule right right no that is not what the Scriptures teach us at all

scriptures say it is not two angels that God has subjected the world to come I

hope you know where that verse is I'll let you find it it's in Hebrews I'll

give you a clue it's in Hebrews but it is not two angels that God has subjected

the world to come okay Christ will be assisted by the spirit born children of

God not angels those people that I mentioned earlier who are drawn out of

all nations and all the peoples and all the cultures of the earth who are

committed and who are trained to take up positions of leadership under Jesus

Christ they are the ones who are going to assist him turn to mark 10 let's talk

about the training a little bit the training will mirror Christ's life

the training will mirror Christ's life

training involves learning to submit to God to his commandments to his authority

to obey Him and to practice humility and love but we're gonna focus mostly on

humility today because that really is important on the day of atonement in

mark 10 verses 42 through 45 the disciples had been arguing about who was

top dog and who was the who is the smartest I don't know what they were all

arguing about but they wanted to know who was going to be who's going to be

the top who's gonna be the best in the kingdom of God and when Jesus started

talking to them about this he said in verse 42 you know that those who are

regarded as rulers or bigshots of the Gentiles they lord it over them and

they're high officials lord it over them they exercised authority over them not

so with you instead whoever wants to become great among you must learn to

serve others needs and whoever wants to be first must be the servant of all for

even the Son of man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life

as a ransom for many he starts outlining to them the goals

and objectives of this training that needs to happen this training involves

putting on the mind of Christ becoming like him thinking like him everybody has

to learn humility everybody's going to have to learn

humility at some point Humanity is filled with pomp and pride and

self-importance even people who have nothing are filled with pride because

humanity has just deceived they have been horribly deceived we've all been

horribly deceived now they don't know they've been deceived and even if you

point it out to them they won't admit it but it doesn't change the fact that

they're deceived they just have the wrong way of thinking they are

spiritually drunk with false religious teachings with false philosophical

teachings now you probably have to throw in there the science of psychology as

much as you could call it a science drunk indeed with these wrong ideas and

wrong approaches bottom line they will not obey God and he has separated them

from himself this deception is coming from somewhere I think that all of us

who call ourselves humans have a we have a responsibility for why things are the

way they are but Satan actively deceives and blinds the minds of humanity and he

leads us down a path of self-importance and arrogance and love of ourselves and

that's just a way of thinking that's not going to cut it in the kingdom of God

and not only is it not going to cut it it's it's not a good way to live it

doesn't lead to that joy filled living that I mentioned earlier

and we're gonna have ample time to prove it through our lives and we can live

with our false ideas about our own importance and arrogantly you know strut

around and love ourselves and who doesn't it's natural you you just that

just flows out of your every pore but the lessons that we have to learn about

putting on the mind of Jesus Christ lead in a very different direction

Satan actively disease and therefore Satan must be removed he must be removed

before the world can even begin to change so this is a very important step

in this plan that God has for a better way of living one that's going to

actually bring some satisfaction emotional psychological spiritual

whatever you want to whatever level you want to look at that's what God has in

store but certain things need to happen has to be a change of leadership which

means we have to change the personnel and we have to change the way of

thinking and everybody must learn humility at some point everybody's going

to have to change the way they think everybody it's just it's a deal-killer

if you won't we have instructions for the Day of Atonement

and we'll take a look at them here Leviticus 23 if you would okay some

unique instructions for the Day of Atonement and we'll we'll take a look at

them and verses 28 through 30 - okay

maybe I'll read torn verse 26 the Lord said to Moses the tenth day of this

seventh month is the day of atonement hold a sacred assembly that's what we're

doing today right now and deny yourselves that means fast and present

an offering to the Lord do not do any work on that day because it is the day

of atonement when atonement is made for you before

the Lord your God those who do not deny themselves those who do not fast

on that day must be cut off from their people then I will destroy them from

among their people anyone who does any work on that day you shall do no work at

all this is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come

wherever you live it is a day of Sabbath rest for you and you must deny

yourselves from the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following

evening you are to observe your Sabbath so the day of atonement comes with the

unique listing of instructions for its observance and some of these we carry

forward into the New Covenant and some of them we don't let's take a look at

what we've got we've got four basic things here it is a day of sacred

assembly okay it is a day of sacred assembly and it's a Sabbath where

there's no work to be done okay this we still do okay it is also a day of

fasting that you afflict or you deny or you fast okay this is still practiced

now we're going to take a look at Leviticus 16 but don't go there just yet

there are also some special functions of the high priest who makes sacrifices and

cleanses the Tabernacles these parts of the Day of Atonement have been replaced

by the personal sacrifice and the high priesthood of Jesus Christ and we'll

also take a look at a very special part of the instructions coming up a goat the

goat is led into the wilderness this is also something that we don't do

I don't hear any goat bleating in the back waiting to be let out into the

parking lot and we don't do that we don't do that not practiced we have no

earthly high priest to perform the function okay

today the Church of God practices only the first two ordinances if you will and

these are the ones that were not part of the function of the priesthood

all right because Jesus Christ is our high priest and all those functions are

now his to perform we are gathered together for assembly it is a day of

Sabbath rest and awe are fasting these two practices haven't been replaced by

anything that Jesus Christ has done any of his work and as we discussed you know

when we've looked through the book of Hebrews which I like to refer to you

know when the verse says that you know there's a change in the covenant that it

needs to be a change in the instructions and those changes are spelled out in

Hebrews where the high priest takes over and the sacrifices are done away but

fasting Sabbath keeping sacred assembly no those are all still there they're all

still part of the New Covenant today we don't cleanse a tabernacle either which

is something we'll see in Leviticus 16 just a moment we don't cleanse a

tabernacle with the blood of bulls and we don't cast a goat out into the

wilderness but we still talk about them we still talk about them because they

have a lot of meaning even though we don't do the functions we still talk

about them we discussed them because they are pictures and they are

prophecies of events yet to come the casting out of the goat into the

wilderness directly relates to the leadership change at Christ's return

so we have a picture and a prophecy of Satan's removal from power on the Day of

Atonement turned a little bita kiss 16 if you would I wouldn't be surprised if

some of us read through this section just kind of to get our head in the game

think about the day of atonement we're not going to read the entire chapter

although the entire chapter is relevant to the day of atonement what I'd like to

do is just read verses 7 through 10

maybe I'll back up to verse 6 Aaron is to offer the bowl for his own sin

offering it to make atonement for himself and his household then in verse

7 then he is to take the two goats and present them before the Lord so these

two goats are brought before God at the entrance of the tent of meeting verse 8

he is to cast lots for the two goats one lot for the Lord and the other for the

scapegoat Aaron shall bring the goat whose lot falls to the Lord and

sacrifice it for a sin offering but the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat or

the goat for going away or the Azazel goat or whatever it's hard to translate

but the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat shall be presented alive

before the Lord to be used for making atonement by sending it into the

wilderness as a scapegoat and this is part of the Day of Atonement ceremony if

you will we don't do this but we are going to talk about it because it's very

important and it is a prophecy and a picture of things to come

so these atonement instructions include this choosing of a goat to be cast out

the choosing process well they're brought before God who chooses which

goat is which whose judgment matters the judgment of God they are brought before

God and he selects which one goes this way and which one goes that way the goat

that is to be cast out represents Satan who must be removed the other represents

Christ a sacrifice a new kind of leader if you want to put it back in the

leadership frame a new kind of leader a sacrificial leader one who gives of

himself for those he is leading so we've got these two goats and they're gonna

have different destinies if you will we're in Leviticus 16 drop down to verse

20 when Aaron has finished making atonement for the most holy place that's

about the cleansing of the tabernacle the tent of meeting in the altar he will

bring forward the live goat so now we're talking about this goat who was selected

not to be sacrificed but to be led away into the wilderness this live goat verse

21 he is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over at all

the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites all their sins and put them

on the goats head and he will send the goat away into the wilderness and the

care of someone appointed for the task and the goat will carry on itself all

their sins to a remote place and the man shall release it into the wilderness the

laying on of hands is very important here the blame remember Satan the

deceiver while the blame for instigating disobedience to and rejection of God is

placed on Satan and all the sin that he initiated and started I mean we had our

hand in it and that's paid for different way but all that blame that is

his is put on his head where it belongs and he is sent out he is sent out put

away turn to Revelation 20 verses 1 through 3 this is something that happens

immediately after Christ returns which was something we looked at at the day of

Trumpets revelation 20 verses 1 through 3 and I saw an angel coming down out of

heaven angels that person fit for the task that we read about if you will

having a key to the abyss and holding in his hand a great chain and he seized the

dragon Satan an ancient serpent was the devil or satan and bound him for a

thousand years he threw him into the abyss and locked and sealed it over him

to keep him from deceiving the nation's anymore until the thousand years were

ended the blame for instigating disobedience to and rejection of God his

placed on Satan's head and he is sent away where he can't deceive the earth

during the reign of Christ the we picture during the Feast of Tabernacles

now there's stuff that happens after that

but for today we're gonna stop there okay we're not going to go on into that

the events that happen on the last great day and so forth what about fasting

we're all fasting today fasting is very important in this understanding of

change of leadership as well fasting teaches us about the character of this

new kind of leadership you don't want it to be new boss same as the old boss

that's not going to accomplish anything the new boss has to be of a different

way of thinking that's what makes a difference that's what makes it all

worthwhile in Leviticus 23 verse 32 we don't need

to go there because we've read it already we are told to fast we are told

to deny ourselves and we are told to afflict our flesh

I don't know how afflicted you are feeling right now

I'm doing okay but I'm probably gonna hit me in about an hour or two we're

really well but we are fasting afflicting our flesh

now fasting you know it's very simple it means to deny your cell food and water

and we do this for one day as we were reading through the instructions there

in Leviticus 23 we do this for one day which means from sunset to sunset okay

so this year the fast begins at sunset on the 29th of September at sunset and

it ends this evening Saturday September 30th 2017 that'll be another day of

atonement it's just it's a physical thing that we do right in and of itself

it has no value I mean if I was stuck out the desert with no food and no water

would that be a spiritual exercise no I would just be starving but fasting is

when we take it upon ourselves to deny ourselves these things it is a spiritual

exercise is something we do it is something we do to develop and it's a

spiritual exercise it's therefore developing humility humility I don't

think it's limited to just developing humility but it's definitely a big part

of it it's the one that we're going to focus on today humility is the mindset

of godly leadership the mindset of godly leadership though now that's the

leadership that's going to replace the proud the vain greedy arrogant selfish

way of the previous administration

Satan and us we have our hand in it to all that needs to be put away it means

to be thrown into a black hole where gravity will reduce it to the ultimate

nothingness or whatever your analogy for it is the abyss your practice of fasting

it's not something that should only take place on or you know has to only take

place on the tone Minh it is something that is available to you all during the

year for spiritual growth and discipline however we are instructed to fast on the

day of atonement the only day that we're told we must fast or else God will be

very displeased with us so we fast on this day and fasting it's about changing

your way of thinking it is about changing your way of thinking humility

is an essential part of the mind of Christ and it's the mindset that's going

to make his rule work that's going to make it different that's going to make

it worthwhile it's a mindset that you must have to work effectively and

joyfully alongside him turn to Philippians 2 Philippians two verses

three through eight do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit rather

in humility value others above yourselves not looking to your own

interests but each of you to the interests of the others in your

relationships with one another have the same mindset as Christ Jesus who being

in very nature God did not consider equality with God that status something

to be grabbed on to clung to held onto or

used to his own advantage rather he made himself nothing by taking the very

nature of a servant being made in human likeness and being found in appearance

as a human being he humbled himself by becoming obedient unto death even death

on a cross therefore God exalted him to the highest

place and gave him the name that is above every name that at the name of

Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth unto thee or under the

earth wait a minute in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every

tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father

Colossians 3 verses 12 and 13 therefore as God's chosen people these people

drawn out from humanity to have this role to play in this change of

leadership as God's chosen people holy and dearly loved clothe yourselves with

compassion kindness humility gentleness and patience bear with one another and

forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone forgive as the

Lord forgave you and over all these virtues put on love which binds them all

together in perfect unity humility is an essential frame of mind a way of seeing

yourself if you will for overcoming you have to see yourself in a certain way to

overcome you have to see that you need to overcome they even need to change you

have to have the humility to say you know I'm not all I thought I was cracked

up to be that takes a little humility and it is

essential for overcoming defeating and replacing the mindset of Satan replacing

and removing Satan's way of thinking is just as important as removing Satan

himself

and that's fasting has a lot to do with that it's just a way to change the way

we think turn to first John 2 verse 16 for everything in the world the lust of

the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life comes not from the

father but from the world Satan accomplishes his work in you and he's

doing a work in you or he could be if you let him he's doing work in people if

you think about it that way kind of odd way of putting it but yeah he's doing

work in people which is a work of deception he accomplishes his work in

humans through the desires of the body

our basic needs sometimes that's how he works and we have desires for for

self-preservation food drink and we have desires for pleasure Satan works through

these things when you fast you deny yourself some of the basic necessities

of life food and water you are denying yourself what the flesh desires it is a

physical exercise with big spiritual implications fasting it's a symbolic act

very important that one though with spiritual implications and it's an act

that's in pictures the removing of Satan's influence from your life but

it's also a very real thing it's a very real exercise in in control over your

own appetites and desires

Ezra 8 verse 21 this is the caravan that's heading back to rebuild the

temple after the seventy years of exile are up and

they're in verse 21 by the Ahava canal I and that's as respeaking proclaimed a

fast so that we might humble ourselves before God and ask him for a safe

journey for us and our children and all our possessions now there's a direct

link between the physical act of denying yourself food water and the spiritual

goal which is to humble yourself before God fasting helps develop a way of

thinking an attitude of humility which must replace the attitude of pride that

just it has to happen one way or the other and in the same way as Christ's

rule must replace Satan's Christ's way of thinking must replace Satan's going

on parallel tracks here without two things going on but they're both really

the same if you look at it that way turn to Matthew 5 verses 5 through 6 actually

wait 3 through 6 blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of

heaven that kingdom that Christ returns to bring to earth from heaven blessed

are those who mourn for they will be comforted blessed are the meek for they

will inherit the earth and blessed are those who hunger and thirst for

righteousness for they will be filled

the earth and its future will not be given over to the proud the arrogant the

bossy loudmouths or the oppressors

the future of the earth the world of tomorrow will be given to those who are

meek poor in spirit and humble it's a mindset it really creates a foundation

for so many other ways of christ-like thinking the earth and its future will

be given to those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for righteousness not

pizza

well I'm pizzas okay you know what I mean everybody's going to have to learn

humility one way or the other either now or later turn to Zephaniah 3:17 three

verses six through 13 Zephaniah was think he was about the

same time as Jeremiah and we find him

Zephaniah three verses six through 13 he's known as the prophet of the day of

the Lord so it's very appropriate to look to Zephaniah when talking about the

fall holy days seasons he's talking about the day of the Lord the day of the

Lord the day of the Lord and in chapter 3 verses 6 through 13 God says through

the Prophet I have destroyed nations their strongholds are demolished I have

left their streets deserted no one passing through their cities are laid

waste they are deserted and empty of Jerusalem

I thought surely you will fear me and accept correction then her place of

refuge would not be destroyed nor all my punishments come upon her but

they were still eager to act corrupt ibly and all they did therefore wait for

me declares the Lord for the day I will

stand up to testify I have decided to assemble the nation's to gather the

kingdom's to pour out my wrath on them and all my fierce anger and the whole

world will be consumed by the fire of my jealous anger then I will purify the

lips of the people and all of them may call on the name of the Lord and shall

serve Him shoulder to shoulder from beyond the rivers of cush my worshippers

my scattered people will bring me offerings and on that day you Jerusalem

will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to me

because I will remove from you your arrogant boasters and never again will

you be haughty on my holy hill but I will leave within you the meek and the

humble the remnant of Israel I will trust right the remnant of Israel will

trust in the name of the Lord they will do no wrong they will tell no lies a

deceitful tongue will not be found in their mouths they will eat and lie down

and no one will make them afraid during Christ's rule all people will be

taught the way of humility one way or the other the way of humility of

cooperation and peace it's going to be taught one way or the other and I I

expect that you know all people in the matter even those who come up in the

second resurrection are going to have to learn humility somehow it just only

makes sense to me God is not going to offer eternal life to anyone who just

doesn't have that frame of mind who isn't on the same page everybody will

have to learn humility all humanity as we read here is F and I and you know if

you hearken back to the message from the Feast of Trumpets all humanity

will be humbled either willingly or unwillingly and I hope I'm pretty sure

I'm speaking to an audience here who is willing wants to get on that page now

and that's a good thing and God is happy with that that is pleasing to him

without that change though without that change that change in the way of

thinking people would never be able to have a positive relationship with God so

beyond all the mechanics of justice and government and getting along they

wouldn't be able to have a positive relationship with their creator unless

they have a humble frame of mind it touches every level of human existence

human thought and emotions in psychology go to proverbs 16 if you would proverbs

16 verse 5 short and sweet proverbs 16 verse 5 says the Lord God detests all

the proud of heart and be sure of this they will not go unpunished James for

James 4 verses 4 through 10 God doesn't like people who were proud I think it

can take the long time to figure out that you know when we start approaching

God and we don't get it but we do learn it I hope you learn it hopefully not as

slowly as me but in James 4 verses 4 through 10 speaking here James writes

you adulterous people don't you know that your friendship with the Earl with

the world means enmity against God of you know bad vibes between you and God

therefore anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of

God or do you think that scripture says with

reason that he jealously longs for the spirit that he's caused to dwell in us

he wants he wants to have that relationship with you on a spiritual

level he longs for it and he's jealous about it but he gives us more grace and

that is why scripture says God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble

submit yourselves then to God resist the devil and he will flee from you come

near to God and He will come near to you wash your hands you sinners change what

you're doing purify your hearts you double-minded grieve and mourn and well

change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom humble yourselves

before the Lord and He will lift you up

it's a necessary part of a positive relationship with God and you might look

at it and say wow you know that's kind of grim gloom doom darkness crying

weeping oh why does he say that well if you back up and look at the first part

of this chapter he says okay why are there these problems with you folks in

verse 1 he says what causes fights and quarrels among you don't they come from

your desires that battle within you again of those things of the world you

know the desires but your flesh wants what your body wants that your ego wants

and all these things this is what's causing your problems folks you desire

but you don't have so you kill you covet but you cannot get what you want so you

quarrel and you fight then you do not have because you do not ask God and when

you do ask you don't receive because you ask for the wrong thing for the wrong

motives you may spend them to get your own pleasure

that's why he's telling people to get gloomy you know wail and weep because of

all that other junk that's happening and you should wail and weep and that is

gloomy and the only way to get past it and get through it is through this

mindset of humility so yeah people have to be sorry and feel

rotten about all the terrible things that we do because of our pride and

vanity and that makes you gloomy you know when I face how vain and proud I am

I do get kind of movie I think man can I do anything

yeah well you have to start somewhere right God's program is a program of

learning the mind of Christ and humility is a big big part of that

what what's important though to focus on is get past the gloom get past the doom

it has to happen you have to feel godly Sora you have to change you have to

realize there's a reason why I have to change my way of thinking the good news

is you can that's the that's the happy news that's the good news you can you

can begin to humble yourself before God now you don't have to wait for the times

that Zephaniah is talking about where all is you know bad stuff starts rolling

out you're with the program now you can be with the program now first Peter 5

verses 5 through 7 in that same way you who are younger submit yourselves to

your elders all of you clothe yourselves with humility towards one another

because God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble humble yourselves

therefore under God's mighty hand that he might lift you up in due time when

the time is right I think that's a reference to the time when you were

resurrected back to or resurrected to new life which is spirit life but today

you have the option of humbling yourself before God now of learning the mind of

Christ now Luke 14 last Scripture

Luke 14 verses 7 through 11 little it's not really a parable although it's kind

of said it's a parable in here but it's a kind of a life lesson or an

observation I think Jesus is telling people something about themselves and

stuff that they probably all done and shown them the the spirit behind it and

how this way of thinking touches even the little intimate moments of a

dinner-party

verse 7 when he that's Jesus noticed how the ghasts picked the places of honor at

the table so they're all going you know he's this is at a dinner party he told

them this parable when someone invites you to a wedding feast do not take the

place of honor for a person more distinguished than you may have been

invited if so then the host who invited both of you will come and say to you

give this person your seat then humiliated you will have to take the

least important place but when you are invited take the lowest place so that

when your host comes he will say to you friend move to a better place then you

will be honored in the presence of all those other guests for all those who

exalt themselves will be humbled and those who humble themselves will be

exalted so why fast on the Day of Atonement

well fasting on the day of atonement is a vivid living experiential thing you go

through it you do it you live it and it's about changing your way of thinking

it's a vivid reminder of the state of mind that you need to have if you are to

serve with Christ at that pivotal time in the history of the earth in human

history in the history of the universe when there's a change in leadership you

must be of the same mind as Christ you must be on the same page one that is

of humility that has godly sorrow and understands why things need to be

different and that hungers and thirsts for righteousness atonement is a promise

and a prophecy of change it is got a good message that goat that's cast into

the wilderness well that's a picture and a prophecy of the removal of Satan from

human affairs fasting is a reminder and a picture and

the beginning because it's something that's really happening

of a new way of thinking and a new way of living a life that is full of peace

that is fulfilled with joy

and must be in our lives and will be in the lives of all humanity when Christ

returns to rule
