Waching daily Jan 30 2018

This is my nephew,

Yuan Yuan.

He's five years old,

super adorable.

I asked him the other day,

"What would you like for your birthday this year?"

He said, "I want to have a one-way mirror Spider-Man mask."

I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about,

so I said, "Wow, that's really cool,

but how are you going to get it?"

He told me, without a blink of his eyes,

"I'm going to tell my mom and make a wish before I go to bed.

My mom will go to shake her mobile phone.

The next morning, the delivery uncle will give it to me when I wake up."

I was about to tease him,

but suddenly I realized

he was simply telling me the truth,

the truth of what shopping looks like for this generation.

If you think of it, for a child like Yuan Yuan,

shopping is a very different idea

compared to what my generation had in mind.

Shopping is always done on mobile,

and payment is all virtual.

A huge shopping revolution is happening in China right now.

Shopping behaviors, and also technology platforms,

have evolved differently than elsewhere in the world.

For instance, e-commerce in China is soaring.

It's been growing at twice the speed of the United States

and a lot of the growth is coming from mobile.

Every month, 500 million consumers

are buying on mobile phones,

and to put that into context,

that is a total population of the United States,

UK and Germany combined.

But it is not just about the scale of the e-commerce,

it is the speed of adoption and the aggregation of the ecosystems.

It took China less than five years to become a country of mobile commerce,

and that is largely because of the two technology platforms,

Alibaba and Tencent.

They own 90 percent of the e-commerce --

pretty much the whole market --

85 percent of social media,

85 percent of internet payment.

And they also own large volumes of digital content, video, online movie,

literature, travel information, gaming.

When this huge base of mobile shoppers

meets with aggregated ecosystems,

chemical reactions happen.

Today, China is like a huge laboratory

generating all sorts of experiments.

You should come to China,

because here you will get a glimpse into the future.

One of the trends I have seen concerns the spontaneity of shopping.

Five years ago, in a fashion study,

we found that on average,

a Chinese consumer would be buying five to eight pairs of shoes.

This number tripled to reach about 25 pairs of shoes a year.

Who would need so many pairs of shoes?

So I asked them, "What are the reasons you buy?"

They told me a list of inspirations:

blogs, celebrity news, fashion information.

But really, for many of them, there was no particular reason to buy.

They were just browsing on their mobile site

and then buying whatever they saw.

We have observed the same level of spontaneity in everything,

from grocery shopping to buying insurance products.

But it is not very difficult to understand if you think about it.

A lot of the Chinese consumers are still very new

in their middle-class or upper-middle-class lifestyles,

with a strong desire to buy everything new,

new products, new services.

And with this integrated ecosystem,

it is so easy for them to buy, one click after another.

However, this new shopping behavior is creating a lot of challenges

for those once-dominant businesses.

The owner of a fashion company told me that he's so frustrated

because his customers keep complaining that his products are not new enough.

Well, for a fashion company, really bad comment.

And he already increased the number of products in each collection.

It doesn't seem to work.

So I told him there's something more important than that.

You've got to give your consumer exactly what they want

when they still want it.

And he can learn something from the online apparel players in China.

These companies, they collect real consumer feedback

from mobile sites, from social media,

and then their designers will translate this information

into product ideas,

and then send them to microstudios for production.

These microstudios are really key in this overall ecosystem,

because they take small orders,

30 garments at a time,

and they can also make partially customized pieces.

The fact that all these production designs

are done locally,

the whole process, from transporting to product on shelf or online

sometimes takes only three to four days.

That is super fast,

and that is highly responsive to what is in and hot on the market.

And that is giving enormous headaches to traditional retailers

who are only thinking about a few collections a year.

Then there's a consumer's need for ultraconvenience.

A couple of months ago, I was shopping with a friend in Tokyo.

We were in the store,

and there were three to four people standing in front of us

at the checkout counter.

Pretty normal, right?

But both of us dropped our selection

and walked away.

This is how impatient we have become.

Delivering ultraconvenience is not just something nice to have.

It is crucial to make sure your consumer actually buys.

And in China, we have learned

that convenience is really the glue that will make online shopping

a behavior and a habit that sticks.

It is sometimes more effective than a loyalty program alone.

Take Hema.

It's a retail grocery concept developed by Alibaba.

They deliver a full basket of products

from 4,000 SKUs to your doorstep

within 30 minutes.

What is amazing is that they deliver literally everything:

fruits, vegetables, of course.

They also deliver live fish

and also live Alaska king crab.

Like my friend once told me,

"It's really my dream coming true.

Finally, I can impress my mother-in-law

when she comes to visit me for dinner unexpectedly."

(Laughter)

Well, companies like Amazon and FreshDirect

are also experimenting in the same field.

The fact that Hema is part of the Alibaba ecosystem

makes it faster and also a bit easier to implement.

For an online grocery player,

it is very difficult, very costly,

to deliver a full basket quickly,

but for Hema, it's got a mobile app,

it's got mobile payment,

and also it's built 20 physical stores in high-density areas in Shanghai.

These stores are built to ensure the freshness of the product --

they actually have fish tanks in the store --

and also to give locations that will enable high-speed delivery.

I know the question you have on your mind.

Are they making money?

Yes, they are making money.

They are breaking even,

and what is also amazing is that the sales revenue per store

is three to four times higher than the traditional grocery store,

and half of the revenue orders are coming from mobile.

This is really proof that a consumer,

if you give them ultraconvenience that really works in grocery shopping,

they're going to switch their shopping behaviors online,

like, in no time.

So ultraconvenience and spontaneity,

that's not the full story.

The other trend I have seen in China

is social shopping.

If you think of social shopping elsewhere in the world,

it is a linear process.

You pick up something on Facebook,

watch it, and you switch to Amazon

or brand.com to complete the shopping journey.

Clean and simple.

But in China it is a very different thing.

On average, a consumer would spend one hour on their mobile phone shopping.

That's three times higher than the United States.

Where does the stickiness come from?

What are they actually doing on this tiny little screen?

So let me take you on a mobile shopping journey

that I usually would be experiencing.

11pm, yes, that's usually when I shop.

I was having a chat in a WeChat chatroom with my friends.

One of them took out a pack of snack

and posted the product link in that chatroom.

I hate it, because usually I would just click that link

and then land on the product page.

Lots of information, very colorful,

mind-blowing.

Watched it and then a shop assistant came online

and asked me, "How can I help you tonight?"

Of course I bought that pack of snack.

What is more beautiful is I know that the next day, around noontime,

that pack of snack will be delivered to my office.

I can eat it and share it with my colleagues

and the cost of delivery, maximum one dollar.

Just when I was about to leave that shopping site,

another screen popped up.

This time it is the livestreaming of a grassroots celebrity

teaching me how to wear a new color of lipstick.

I watched for 30 seconds -- very easy to understand --

and also there is a shopping link right next to it,

clicked it, bought it in a few seconds.

Back to the chatroom.

The gossiping is still going on.

Another friend of mine posted the QR code

of another pack of snack.

Clicked it, bought it.

So the whole experience

is like you're exploring in an amusement park.

It is chaotic, it is fun

and it's even a little bit addictive.

This is what's happening when you have this integrated ecosystem.

Shopping is embedded in social,

and social is evolving into a multidimensional experience.

The integration of ecosystems reaches a whole new level.

So does its dominance in all aspects of our life.

And of course, there are huge commercial opportunities behind it.

A Chinese snack company, Three Squirrels,

built a half-a-billion-dollar business in just three years

by investing in 300 to 500 shop assistants

who are going to be online to provide services 24/7.

In the social media environment,

they are like your neighborhood friends.

Even when you are not buying stuff,

they will be happy to just tell you a few jokes and make you happy.

In this integrated ecosystem,

social media can really redefine the relationship between brand,

retailer and consumer.

These are only fragments of the massive changes

I have seen in China.

In this huge laboratory,

a lot of experiments are generated every single day.

The ecosystems are reforming,

supply chain distribution, marketing, product innovation,

everything.

Consumers are getting the power to decide what they want to buy,

when they want to buy it,

how they want to buy it, how they want to social.

It is now back to business leaders of the world

to really open their eyes, see what's happening in China,

think about it and take actions.

Thank you.

(Applause)

Massimo Portincaso: Angela, what you shared with us

is truly impressive and almost incredible,

but I think many in the audience had the same question that I had,

which is:

Is this kind of impulsive consumption

both economically and environmentally sustainable over the longer term?

And what is the total price to be paid

for such an automized and ultraconvenient retail experience?

Angela Wang: Yeah. One thing we have to keep in mind

is really, we are at the very beginning of a huge transformation.

So with this trading up needs of the consumer,

together with the evolution of the ecosystem,

there are a lot of opportunities and also challenges.

So I've seen some early signs

that the ecosystems are shifting their focus

to pay attention to solve these challenges.

For example, paying more consideration to sustainability

alongside just about speed,

and also quality over quantity.

But there are really no simple answers to these questions.

That is exactly why I'm here to tell everyone

that we need to watch it, study it, and play a part in this evolution.

MP: Thank you very much.

AW: Thank you.

(Applause)

Is there ever a reason to divide? - Duration: 6:13.

Unity is an important value for Christians

but are there ever reasons for us to divide?

The unity in the church is an important display of the Holy Spirit

at work in us, but when do we divide?

The early church wrestled through those occasions when it is important.

When someone preaches a different Jesus

there's an example. Both the book of 1 John and 2 John

talk about anti-Christs. Not one anti-Christ that comes at the end of history

but anti-Christs are anyone who are anti ... Christ

Tada

These are people who deny that Jesus is the Christ

the messiah, someone who doesn't believe that Jesus died on the cross

or maybe even came in the flesh

they have different theories about who Jesus might be

well, we don't consider these people fellow Christians.

We want to treat them with gentleness and respect

if they are struggling or asking questions

but they're not Christians.

So anti-Christs are one kind of person we would divide from.

Then there are people who are not only

preaching a different Jesus, but a different gospel.

The apostle Paul in Galations chapter 1 says

that the gospel he preached, the gospel of grace

is the only true gospel and if someone else

even an angel from Heaven would come

preaching a different gospel

let them be anathema

don't consider them as true

we can think in history of a coupe of different religious movements

that have been started supposedly by an angel from Heaven

revealing divine truth to a prophet

and Paul who wrote hundreds of years before this would say

no, do not listen to their message, it's not the gospel.

Within the context of the book of Galations

he was wrestling with people who were saying

the gospel is that Jesus saves you

so that you can then practice the law of Moses

and this is clearly not a new testament message

a different Jesus, a different gospel, we divide.

Also if someone abuses grace

if someone says, well this gospel of grace is something

that means I can live however I want

Jesus has said in Matthew 18

that if a brother or sister sins, verse 15 and onward

you should go personally, point out their fault

and if they repent you've won them back and

unity is preserved and if not, don't give up

widen the circle, come back with a couple of friends

and if they still won't listen

make it a matter for the entire church

that is, in this context was probably a small house church

get everyone involved in their circle of

Christian fellowship and help them see

that what they're trying to get away with is really just abusing grace

and if they refuse to listen to the fullness of the church

Jesus says, well then treat them

as you would a pagan or a tax collector

well, how did the early church treat pagans and tax collectors?

We treat non-believers with gentleness and respect

but we refuse to enable them

to say we'll pretend you're acting like a

brother or sister when you're really not

in 1 Corinthians 5 the apostle Paul said that

when someone is abusing grace, in that congregation

it was a man who was sleeping with his father's new wife.

He father had remarried and so the adult son was now sleeping with her

and Paul wrote to the church and said, you guys are proud of this

like you think the gospel of grace gives you this license to sin

something that Jude also talks about

in his apistle, a license to do whatever you want?

That's the gospel?

No. Paul says this is obviously

a clearly offensive way of living

even non-Christians would agree about his

you should know better

but you're abusing the gospel of grace.

So a different Jesus, a different gospel

or an abuse of grace

are good reasons to divide.

Lastly there's another category that's worth dividing over

and that is, someone who has a divisive disposition.

There may be an individual in the church

who through gossip or slander

it's a serious sin

one translation of that is reviling

there are revilers who are condemned in the new testament

that is someone who loves to cut other people down

and judge them for their sin

or for something that they believe

when it really is not a central issue.

A reviler who will not repent

or a slanderer, someone who's actually

creating division in the church, needlessly

is someone who should be divided from.

Paul wrote to Titus, in

Titus 3 verse 10

He said, "warn a divisive person once

and then warn them a second time

after that, have nothing to do with them."

So there are divisive people

who should receive multiple warnings, and after a while we say

allowing you to go unchallenged and just giving you a place

a continued place here, within the church

is actually causing more division.

So we have to divide from you.

Hopefully you'll repent and come on home and join the family

and appreciate the diversity that's here

but in the meantime, you're causing division.

So we take a stand against divisiveness itself

if it's not something that revolves around who Jesus is

what the gospel is

and whether or not someone is using the gospel as a license to sin.

So, you may think differently than the person in a church down the street

they may allow women pastors or not allow women pastors

they might baptize infants or not baptize infants

they might believe in the gift of tongues or not

these are not the central issues we divide over

we may attend different churches

because of the style or the theological difference

but we still have to find ways of breathing unity

in the full body of Christ, even if we don't attend that church

we need to speak well to them

and speak well about them behind their backs

and find ways to build bridges and to celebrate

even while we disagree about many things

which a family often does.

Now, this raises the question, exactly how can we go about doing that?

How can we promote unity in the church

even with Christians with whom we have disagreements?

But that's another question.

What is the best time to eat chicken? - Duration: 3:50.

What is the best time to eat chicken?

Some of us might cringe at the idea of eating chicken for breakfast, but it is really a good idea if you come to think of it.

Our body goes through a long period of fasting during the night, and sometime ear dawn, we reach ketosis or starvation point, when the nutrition store in the body starts getting used up.

A healthy smattering of boiled or stir-fried chicken can rapidly replenish the diminishing energy storage in the body. Besides, chicken is highly fibrous and filling, which is ideal for keeping hunger pangs away till lunchtime.

If you have a workout regimen, you should include some protein in your diet, especially right after a strenuous workout session. Small muscle tears occur every time you exercise, and these can be repaired quickly by the intake of ample protein.

Chicken provides the most nutritious source of protein without any extra fat, and keeps your energy replenished to make sure you are not exhausted for the rest of the day.

Chicken contains a lot of fiber and protein, which makes it an ideal inclusion in the weight-watcher's diet. Chicken builds muscle, and muscles help you burn fat by using more energy.

Besides, the fiber is chicken also makes it very filling, keeping you full for a longer period, and also helps in regulating your metabolism and digestion.

Eating a small helping of chicken for dinner is a pretty good idea. Chicken helps in regulating metabolism, which is great because our metabolism slows down at night.

Besides, because chicken is filing, you get to stay satiated through the night, and will not likely be woken by that gnawing feeling in your stomach in the middle of the night.

Mid mornings and evenings are the times that throw us off our diets. These are the times of the day when our energy reaches a low point, and we reach for sugary snacks and fast food to feel happy and vigorous again.

So, packing a chicken salad to nibble on during these times will keep us full and away from consuming oodles of empty calories.

Chicken is not only healthy, it is delicious as well. Besides, it is versatile, which means you can literally make it into anything that suits your palate.

Stir fry them with some vegetables, mix some pieces into a salad, or simply toss some chicken in a sandwich. Make some delicious gravy and pack it for lunch as a side to rice, or, if you are feeling adventurous,.

What is REAL ID? - Duration: 10:08.

Hello and welcome!

There are some big changes happening at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles that

we want you to be aware of so that you can make your next interaction with us as successful

as possible!

Starting March, 26, 2018, a set of new federal requirements comes into effect for the RMV.

The result of these requirements is that we begin issuing two new types of driver's

licenses and ID cards.

The first is called a REAL ID Massachusetts driver's license or ID card and the second

is called a Standard Massachusetts driver's license or ID card.

Let's start with the REAL ID.

The term Real ID comes from the REAL ID Act of 2005, which is a law that was passed by

Congress establishing a minimum set of security standards for state-issued driver's licenses

and identification cards.

It was passed after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, in part, to provide an additional layer of

identity verification to the driver's license or ID card process.

This helps to increase the security in the U.S. by reducing the ability to use fraudulent

documents to obtain an official ID.

So what is the impact of the REAL ID Act?

Under this law, by October 1, 2020, every person in the U.S. who wants to use their

state-issued driver's license or ID card for entrance into certain federal buildings

or to fly within the U.S. must have a REAL ID.

Other acceptable forms of ID, like a valid passport, may still be used for these purposes,

however if you want to use your driver's license or ID card it must be a REAL ID.

In order to get a REAL ID from Massachusetts, you have to prove that you meet the requirements

established in the Real ID act.

One requirement that begins March 26, 2018 is we must verify every customer's lawful

presence status, including yours, in order to be eligible for a driver's license or

ID card.

You need to provide proof of lawful presence for both a REAL ID and a Standard card whether

you are obtaining the card for the first time or renewing your current card.

Simply put, lawful presence means that a person is legally living in the U.S. according to

federal immigration laws.

All U.S. citizens have permanent lawful presence in the U.S. Non-U.S. citizens who are studying,

working, or living temporarily in the U.S. may have temporary lawful presence that may

vary in its length.

After March 26, 2018, our customers will need to provide additional documentation or information

to prove their lawful presence and obtain a REAL ID or Standard driver's license or

ID card.

For U.S. citizens, a valid, unexpired U.S. passport is sufficient proof of lawful presence

and would be run through a United States Passport Verification Services (USPVS) check for validity.

U.S. citizens may also provide a certified copy of their U.S. birth certificate.

For those customers who are not U.S. citizens, valid, verifiable immigration documents need

to be provided as well as proof that the person has been granted a legal stay in the U.S.

for at least 12 months.

Their immigration status will be confirmed with a check through The Department of Homeland

Security's program called SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements).

If verified through SAVE, their driver's license or ID card will be coterminous with

the length of their stay, meaning the expiration date on their card will be the same as the

expiration date of the end of their authorized stay in the U.S.

If the customer does not pass these checks, he or she will not be eligible for a driver's

license or ID card at that time.

The next requirement is specific to REAL ID.

It requires every person who is getting a REAL ID driver's license or ID card for

the first time to come into an RMV Service Center so that we can capture your photo,

physically verify your documents and then authenticate and scan the documents into our

system.

This applies to all first time REAL ID applicants, even if you have held a driver's license

or ID card in Massachusetts for years.

For REAL ID, in addition to the lawful presence documentation, when you come in you will need

to provide one supporting document that shows your Social Security number which will also

be electronically verified through the Social Security Administration's Social Security

Online Verification system (called SSOLV).

Or if you do not have a social security number, you must provide a denial letter from the

Social Security Administration, a valid, unexpired foreign passport which will be verified through

SAVE, and must be affixed with your unexpired U.S. visa and accompanied by the approved

I-94 form for your most recent admittance into the U.S.

You also need to bring 2 documents that show your Massachusetts residency.

Most residency documents must reflect the current year and/or be dated within 60 days.

All documents that you provide must be valid and unexpired.

Photocopies will not be accepted.

And one document cannot be used as proof for more than one requirement.

Some customers will never need a REAL ID.

For those of you who do not often fly or do not plan to fly in the U.S. or enter federal

buildings after October 1, 2020, you may decide a REAL ID is not for you.

Or if you have an active passport, passport card, or even a Global Entry card that you

are comfortable carrying, you may use these forms of identification to fly domestically

starting October 1, 2020.

Individuals with access to these other types of IDs can use these TSA approved documents

for passing through airport security; U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued

to dependents, Federally recognized, tribal-issued photo ID, Transportation worker identification

credential, U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential.

For those customers who don't want or need a REAL ID, there will be an option to get

a Standard Massachusetts driver's license or ID card.

To be clear, a Standard card is still a valid credential and form of identification.

A Standard Massachusetts driver's license will still allow an individual all of the

same driving privileges and have the same fees as a REAL ID.

However, after October 2020, a Standard card cannot be used fly within the U.S. or enter

federal buildings that require identification.

As mentioned, for a Standard card, customers will still need to prove lawful presence.

You may come in to an RMV Service Center with your lawful presence document to fulfill this

requirement.

Or if you are otherwise eligible to renew online, meaning your photo and vision test

are up to date, AND have a lawful presence document that can be verified through our

online service center, then you can save a trip to the Service Center to renew for a

Standard card online.

We know this is going to be a busy time at the RMV and we are doing all we can to make

the transition to REAL ID as seamless as possible.

We are making some improvements to help make your next interaction with the RMV as successful

as possible.

One improvement is that we are extending the time period for when you need a new photo

for your driver's license or ID card.

Instead of requiring a new photo every 9 years, we will now require a new photo every 14 years.

This means that some people who were originally not eligible to renew online during their

next renewal cycle because they need a new picture may in fact be able to renew online

if they would like a Standard card and can successfully prove lawful presence.

There are certain times this extension does not apply: One is when customers turn age

20/21 a new photo is still required and for those age 75 and older a new photo and vision

test is still required every five years.

We also understand that you may have more questions about REAL ID.

We currently offer an online web wizard, called REAL ID, REAL Answers, that is available to

guide customers to understand if a REAL ID is their best option.

You can go to mass.gov/realid to see some important REAL ID information and select the

REAL ID Wizard tool to find out if you need a REAL ID at your next renewal.

Our partnership with AAA will also support our transition to REAL ID.

Customers who are AAA members and already hold a Massachusetts driver's license or

ID card, will have the option to renew for a REAL ID at a AAA location instead of an

RMV Service Center as long as they meet all of the REAL ID requirements.

However, AAA will not be able to issue a credential for a customer who is applying for a driver's

license or ID card from Massachusetts for the first time.

And finally, we have made great improvements to our Online Service Center that makes it

easy for our customers to "Get Ready" online.

Our website allows our customers to easily find the transaction that they would like

to complete and initiate it online by filling out an application.

Many of our services will be able to be completed online like a change of address, a duplicate

ID card or paying a citation.

Those transactions that cannot be completed online, like getting a REAL ID, should still

be started online.

Getting ready online using your computer or phone, will allow you to fill in all of your

relevant personal information to initiate the application process.

Once you have entered in your data, you will be able to print a confirmation that gives

instructions on everything you need to bring with you to a Service Center or AAA location

to complete your transaction.

You will also receive a copy of this confirmation page via email for your records.

If you print out that confirmation page or pull it up on your smart phone once you get

to a Service Center, we will be able to scan a bar code on that page and issue you a ticket

right away instead of waiting in line to get a Service ticket.

Once you get to the RMV Service Center or AAA counter to complete your transaction,

the clerk will be able to pull up your application information that you entered online using

either the bar code or confirmation code on the application.

This will make for less data entry on the clerk's part and a quicker transaction process

for everyone!

Remember, the RMV will not begin issuing REAL IDs until March 26, 2018, so the ability to

"Get Ready" online for a REAL ID won't be available until that day.

As you can see there are a lot of good things happening at the RMV.

We will continually be working to keep you informed about all of the changes we are making,
