Roswell Reboot Is Happening at The CW

Time for a celebratory shot of Tabasco! The CW has given a pilot order to a reboot of Roswell, the sci-fi show about aliens that ran on The WB from 1999 to 2002, and its a reboot that feels particularly timely in 2018 as it will tackle the issue of immigration.   Executive produced and written by The Originals Carina MacKenzie, heres the networks logline for the currently untitled project: After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: hes an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life.

She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance..

Were in! The original series, created by Jason Katims, starred Shiri Appleby, Jason Behr, Katherine Heigl, Brendan Fehr, Majandra Delfino, Colin Hanks, and Nick Wechsler.

It was based on a series of books by Melinda Metz called Roswell High and followed a bunch of high school students—some human, some human/alien hybrid—in Roswell, New Mexico.  The show chronicled the love story of human Liz (Appleby) and alien Max (Behr) while surrounded by typical high school cliques and slightly less typical threats to an entire secret alien universe. .

This is the second reboot ordered by The CW in the past week, thanks to the new version of Charmed, headed by Jane the Virgins Jennie Urman.

That announcement has created some controversy after original series star Holly Marie Combs spoke out on Twitter, slamming the very idea of the reboot and the description of the new pilot as feminist.

Whether this Roswell news earns the same reaction is yet to be seen! .

In addition to the Untitled Roswell Project and Charmed, here are a few other pilots the network ordered: The End of the World As We Know It: When a prison spaceship carrying the universes most deadly aliens crashes in Southern California, two young women with bigger dreams than working at a kids pizza place in The Valley are recruited by a space cop to hunt down the escaped criminals, who have camouflaged themselves as eccentric Angelenos. Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars and iZombie) serves as the EP.  Spencer: Another day, another Greg Berlanti-produced pilot! When a rising high school football player from South Central L.A.

is recruited to play for Beverly Hills High, the wins, losses and struggles of two families from vastly different worlds — Compton and Beverly Hills — begin to collide. Inspired by the life of pro football player Spencer Paysinger..

Playing Dead: A dysfunctional family dramedy about a mortician and his son whose lives are turned upside down when the woman who abandoned them 15 years ago returns and asks them to fake her death. Skinny Dip: Based on the novel by Carl Hiaasen, the dramas logline reads, After her husband tries to kill her on what she thought was a romantic cruise to celebrate their second wedding anniversary, a woman teams with a jaded ex-cop to exact her own twisted brand of revenge on her cheating spouse, and winds up uncovering a wider conspiracy in the process. In The Dark: A flawed and irreverent blind woman is the only witness to the murder of her drug-dealing friend.

After the police dismiss her story, she sets out with her dog, Pretzel, to find the killer while also managing her colorful dating life and the job she hates at Breaking Blind- the guide dog school owned by her overprotective parents..

Officer in Arms Alastair Bruce says it is unli Forget Meghan what will HARRY wear to the wedding? - Duration: 5:02.

Officer in Arms Alastair Bruce says it is unlikely Harry will wear military uniform

Predicts as he is no longer a serving member of Army he may wear morning suit

Bruce says that Harry still has the option of wearing uniform on his big day

Since the announcement of Prince Harry's engagement to Meghan Markle speculation has mounted over what we can expect the bride to wear on her big day.

However, Meghan isn't the only one who will need to make a good impression, with her dashing fiance also expected to dress the part for what is sure to be one of the most watched weddings of all time.

But while a version of the classic white wedding dress is almost certainly a given for Meghan, what her prince will wear is less clear.

According to one former Army officer and respected royal commentator, Prince Harry might not follow in the footsteps of his older brother, who wore full military attire to marry Kate Middleton in 2012

In fact Alastair Bruce suggested that the happy couple's chosen location, St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, makes it more likely Harry will choose a traditional morning suit

William wore the uniform of the Colonel, Irish Guards at his wedding, because he had recently been appointed to this role by The Queen and his wedding was a ceremonial one.

However, according to former army officer Bruce, a ceremonial expert who is a royal commentator for Sky News, we are unlikely to see Harry in uniform when he and Meghan exchange vows next spring

Speaking to Cosmopolitan, Bruce said: 'As Prince Harry is no longer a serving officer in the Armed Forces, it is unlikely he will wear a uniform

'If they choose to marry in St George's Chapel [which the couple have confirmed they will do in May], as the Earl of Wessex did, I would expect he would choose morning dress.'

However, Bruce says that if he wanted to the prince would have the option of wearing a uniform and would be most likely to choose the 'Captain in the Blues and Royals part of the Household Cavalry Regiment, which was his uniform while serving'.

MailOnline have contacted Kensington Palace for a comment

Meanwhile Meghan, 36, is expected to wear a 'classic and simple' gown after previously hinting at what her dream wedding dress would look like

Before she was to be Prince Harry's girlfriend, the actress, 36, described in an interview how her ideal gown as something that is 'classic and simple', calling Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy's wedding dress her 'everything goals'.

Meanwhile, she also said the fairytale gown worn by her Suits character Rachel Zane was 'not my personal style', saying that she'd prefer something more 'relaxed'.

This suggests that Meghan's wedding dress is likely to be rather different to the Duchess of Cambridge's traditional gown by Alexander McQueen, which she wore to walk down the aisle in 2011.

Speaking in an interview with Glamour about her dream dress, Meghan said: 'Classic and simple is the name of the game, perhaps with a modern twist.

'I personally prefer wedding dresses that are whimsical or subtly romantic.'

Explaining how she wouldn't choose a gown like the Anne Barge dress worn by her character in season 5, she added: 'It's not my personal style, because I'm a lot more relaxed than Rachel but I love that I got to play dress up in this gown.'

Meghan also cited her the minimalist white gown worn by Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy on her wedding day in 1996 as her all-time favourite celebrity wedding dress.

The classic dress worn by John F Kennedy Jr's bride was designed by American designer Narciso Rodriguez, who was little known at the time, suggesting he could potentially be in the running to design Meghan's own gown.

The actress also listed some of her favourite wedding dress labels, including French designer Delphine Manivet and Greek-based designer Christos Costarellos.

She declared herself a fan of both Elie Saab and J

Mendel, who may also be in the

What Big Fans Don't Even Know About This Is Us - Duration: 6:10.

NBC's time-jumping family drama This Is Us has been a breakout smash, hooking viewers

with the saga of the Pearson Five, as they endure one heartbreak after another and still

find strength in their unbreakable bond.

The series invites tears, laughter, and every reaction in between as audiences delve into

their heart-heavy journeys.

But even though it feels like viewers are part of the story, peeling back every layer

of this family, there are still some stories fans might not know about This Is Us.

Let's take a look at some behind-the-scenes details that might've escaped your attention

during all the drama.

Name game

Although it may be hard to imagine This Is Us having another series title, creator Dan

Fogelman originally had a very different vision for the show's name.

This Is Us was originally titled 36, as a reference to the triplets' birthday that takes

place in the pilot episode.

"I'm 36 today."

"You don't look 36."

Luckily for everyone, Fogelman thought better of the idea, saying,

"I never liked it.

Nobody ever liked it.

I came up with This Is Us, I think, when I was in editorial.

I decided I liked how it looked at the beginning [of the show], and I put it in there.

But, there was a lot of debate over what the title of the show was gonna be."

Given its monster ratings and fan base, he clearly made the right call.

Dad bod

There's no doubt that Milo Ventimiglia is Jack Pearson is a heartbreaker for more than

one reason, but if Fogelman's original vision for the character came through, he might not

be quite so dreamy.

He originally wrote the Pearson patriarch as a, quote, "almost a little schlubbier,

doughy" kind of guy.

That all changed when casting began and Ventimiglia read for the part.

The creator explained:

"Milo came in off his motorcycle with his beard and his long hair, just looking like

the coolest, handsomest guy in the world."

His vibe reportedly led Fogelman and his writers to alter not only Jack's appearance, but his

entire personality, too.

Sliding doors

Mandy Moore's character Rebecca seamlessly ages more than 30 years throughout the show,

but Fogelman initially expressed concern that the aging process wouldn't be realistic enough

for the thirty-something actress portraying her.

So, he initially thought about casting an older actress for the present-day scenes instead.

He said:

"I had promised Mandy that if we didn't feel 100 percent confident that this was going

to work and not be laughable, that we would pull the ripcord at the last minute."

The creatives had even drawn up casting lists for Grandma Rebecca just in case the makeup

test didn't go over so well.

Ultimately, though, makeup artist Zoe Hays created a very convincing sixty-something

appearance on Moore.

Considering Moore is the only actor who spans the on-screen generations, it's a good thing

the makeup worked out for continuity's sake.

Size matters

While some fans have expressed disappointment that certain aspects of Kate's journey seem

stereotypical of a woman's struggle to lose weight, but Chrissy Metz has revealed that

the character's story is actually inspired to a real-life relationship dynamic, telling

Glamour:

"Kate is loosely based off of Dan's sister and their relationship, where he was very

successful as a writer and she was struggling with some issues."

Fogelman's sister is now a consultant on the show, and he told the Los Angeles Times that

the fact that her storylines almost alway comes back to that subject of her size is

just reflective of reality, saying:

"For my sister, weight has been a constant battle, up and down, for her entire life…I

said, 'I'm trying to find stories for Kate that aren't always about the weight,' and

she said, 'It's always about the weight."

Meanwhile, even though Chris Sullivan's Toby is shown as experiencing a similar weight

loss struggle, the actor in real life is much thinner than he appears and has to wear a

suit to beef up his belly.

"I guess I'll lose the weight then."

Some audiences reacted negatively to the news that he had to supplement his size, but Metz

defended the decision, saying:

"I get it, people think the authenticity is kind of ruined by that.

Chris has been heavier, so I think he understands the plight of being overweight.

Also he was just the best man for the job."

Home sweet home

Another real-life experience that Fogelman took to the set is having grown up in its

central locale of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The executive producer lived there for the first seven years of his life, and he centered

on the suburb of Bethel Park as an homage to his upbringing.

Although the show is filmed in Los Angeles, Fogelman still aims to give the series a Pittsburgh

feel, saying:

"I wanted to do something that reminded me of where I grew up."

Off-screen romance

While Kate Pearson's plot lines often concern her often rocky love life with Toby, the actress

who plays her found love while working on the show as well.

Only it's not with co-star Chris Sullivan.

Instead, she's been connected with cameraman Josh Stancil.

The couple first stepped out together at a SAG Awards party in 2017, and Metz said of

their blossoming love:

"We're in a very healthy relationship.

It's really mostly about energy."

Cliffhanger clause

This Is Us has been so successful that NBC does give Fogelman a lot of creative freedom,

but they do have one big stipulation that he has to abide by.

During the show's first season, the series was scheduled for a mid-season hiatus around

Christmas, so network executives strongly suggested Fogelman leave things open-ended

during the break.

As the only major note from the network, Fogelman obliged.

He explained:

"They always said early on, 'When you go off the air around Christmas time, if there was

some sort of cliffhanger that can lead into the break, that would be good."

As a result, the midseason hiatus featured Toby collapsing and winding up in the emergency

room, only to emerge relatively unscathed in the return episode a little over a month

later.
