Using the Ellipse Select tool, select the area of the portrait you wish to appear on your token. (note: your source image should be saved in .png format)
Copy the selection (Ctrl+C) and paste it as a new image (Ctrl+Shift+V).
In the Layer menu, select "Scale Layer" and set to 280x280 pixels.
Add a new layer and move it beneath the existing one.
In the View Menu, select both the "Show Grid" and "Snap to Grid" options. In the Image menu, go to "Guides" and click "New Guide by Percent". Create 2 new guides at 50%, one vertical and one horizontal.
Choose the Ellipse tool, and in the Tool options window, check Expand from Center and Fixed Aspect Ratio 1:1. Drag from the center of the image to just past the edge of your token (I went 2 squares)
Using the Fill tool, fill the selection with your chosen color.
Go back to your top layer and click in the blank space using the Fuzzy Select tool. Invert the selection (Ctrl+I), move back to the bottom layer, and press delete. (note: I had to expand the top layer size to fit the image)
Working on the bottom layer and using the Fuzzy select tool, select the token.
In the Filters menu, go to "Decor" and select "Add Bevel". Turn off the work on copy option and apply the filter. You can reapply (Ctrl+F) until it looks the way you want.
In the Filters menu, go to "Light and Shadow" and choose "Drop Shadow". Play with the settings until you like them, apply, and move the new Drop shadow layer to the top.
I duplicated the layer to make it darker (Ctrl+Shift+D) then merged them.
Back on your bottom layer, use the the Fuzzy Select tool to select the blank space, then Invert Selection to select the token's outer edge.
Go back to Drop Shadow and adjust the blur radius to be larger (I went with 70)
Use the Rectangle Select tool with Expand from Center selected and a Fixed Aspect ratio of 1:1 to crop the image nearly to the edge of your drop shadow.
You can choose to merge all of the layers, but it isnt necessary to export the image.
Export as (Ctrl+Shift+E) a .png, keeping the standard settings, and you're done!
Upload your new token into the Roll20 app and check that it looks how you want it to.
