Welcome to Healthier By The Day! What are your new year's resolutions?
So I suppose that you guys would like to know what our New Year's resolutions are. So, that is what we're
going to share with you now. And up first is Lance. My first goal for 2018 is at Mountain Man
Half Iron distance triathlon. I'd like to finish that race within six hours.
In 2017 I did it in a little over seven so six hours is kind of a big improvement
to do in one year. But also I didn't have a very good race there in 2017 so I
think if I just improve the quality of my race and the effort level that I'm
able to put in that day that I'll have a big impact on it. The big part though is
if I can do that three-hour bike split that will go a long way to getting me to
that six hour finish time.
Alright, so my first one is that I want to complete
my first every Olympic triathlon. It'll be the Lifetime Tempe one.
And, just basically wanting to finish within the cutoff time.
My next goal for 2018 is at the Cochise County Cycling Classic which is....
[Jill] October
Is it October or is it August???
It's October...
I would like to finish that race, it's a 165 mile bike race, I'd like to finish that race
in nine and a half hours and I I'd like to maintain an average moving speed of 18
miles per hour or greater. Last year in 2017 I did that race in a
little over 10 and a half hours with an average moving speed of about 16 miles per hour.
All right so my next one I'm not very good on the bike I'd like to improve
on the bike by cycling 50 miles by October 21st.
My next goal for 2018 is at Ironman 70.3 Arizona, it's a half distance Ironman,
I would like to finish that race in five and a half hours and I'd like to run the
entire run split. So no run/walk intervals, actually run the whole thing.
In 2017 I finished that race in a little over six hours so I'm shooting for about
a 30-minute improvement. I think that's very doable. I also had a really good
race there in 2017 so this is gonna be purely a fitness and athletic
improvement not just a quality of race improvement.
Ok, so my last one is, I would like to complete a half marathon in under 3 hours. Specifically, it's going to be a trail run
in under three hours. I can run a half iron... [Lance] half marathon. Oops!
I can do a half marathon in 3 hours, trail running is a little more difficult.
So I would like to by the end of the year be able to do it.
A 3 hours half Ironman would be very impressive!
I'm not even at that distance yet. [Lance] *Laughs* Ok, my final goal for 2018 is at
Ironman Arizona which is in November, that's my big race my A race for this year, I'd
like to finish that race in 12 hours. In 2017 I did in a little over 15
and a half hours but I was suffering from that IT band friction syndrome
which affected all three events. Swim the least, bike probably second, and then the
run the absolute worst. I think that that cost me about two and a half hours which
would have put my finished time about 13 hours. So, twelve hours I think is a
very reasonable and achievable goal for me to improve in one year. Specifically,
I'd like to exit transition two, that's when you transition from the bike to the
run, by seven and a half hours race time and I would really like to run the
entire run split. Not doing run/walk intervals.
[Jill] So we have one more. We talked about it tight before
we actually recorded. Which you had caught me saying half iron because by 2019
I'd like to do my first half ironman. So, though I said it out loud.
There it is, she's committed now to a two-year goal. She would like to run a half ironman
distance triathlon by the end of 2019. [Jill] Hence the 50 mile goal.
Yeah, that's a big picture goal for sure and that's a good big picture goal.
Alright. So, those are our resolutions for 2018 again what are your resolutions?
