Renewable energy is way too expensive, right? - Duration: 6:28.

- Renewable energy, it's a nice fad

but it's way too expensive.

What about poor people?

It's all very well for those rich movie stars

to drive around in their fancy Prius's and Teslas.

But there's a billion people in the world

who don't have access to energy of any kind.

Are you telling me they're not allowed to use

coal, or oil or gas now?

That's not very fair.

One of the favorite arguments people have

against climate action,

is that fossil fuels are a moral necessity.

We need them, so they say, for energy here and now

as well as to help poor nations develop.

But, is that really true.

We're rapidly getting to the point where no, it's not.

When we look at where all the coal, oil and gas reserves

are in the world, they're not in Africa.

Africa only has 6% of the world's remaining

fossil resources.

What about Latin America?

Just 14%, most of those in Venezuela and Brazil.

No, between them, North America, Europe

and the Middle East have almost 80%

of the world's remaining fossil reserves.

Expecting, or even requiring developing countries

to develop the exact same way we did,

isn't moral, it's inviting them to a lifetime of debt

to rich countries that they'll need to buy their fuel from.

And what's more, it's patronizing.

Like saying to them, "Oh, you aren't ready

"for modern cars and cellphones yet.

"At your stage of development,

"you get the party line telephone, and Ford Model-T's.

"Check back with us in 50 years."

The latest news coming out of developing countries

is proving those naysayers wrong as well.

Pay as you go solar, is taking Africa by storm.

Bringing affordable electricity

to people who aren't on any grid,

and growing the local economy in these communities

Solar technology has improved so much in recent years,

that the cost of solar is dropping below that

of fossil fuels, shattering records along the way.

And that's happening in countries without subsidies.

In developing or emerging economies,

including Mexico, Peru, India, and Dubai

new bids for solar energy are coming in below

three cents per kilowatt hour.

That is way cheaper than fossil fuels.

Today, the idea that clean energy will be too expensive

for developing countries to afford, is already a myth.

Hang on though, the naysayers will continue.

Even if it is affordable, what happens when the sun

isn't shining, and the wind isn't blowing.

Guess what, energy storage is where the biggest investments

and some of the greatest progress is being made

in the clean energy sector today.

And the options are plentiful.

Elon Musk has the power wall,

an energy storage unit or a battery,

that you literally install on the wall of your garage,

hopefully in combination with his new solar shingles,

to power your house.

Others are using old time approaches to store energy,

like pumping water uphill, for example,

when the wind is blowing

and letting it run back down again when it's not.

Or, here in Texas, pumping water into old oil wells

under pressure, and then letting it back up again

when it's needed.

Innovative new solar farms, from Spain to Arizona,

are using molten salt to store the heat on site.

And Pacific Islands, including Kauai and Hawaii,

are using solar and storage rays

to replace their dependence on expensive,

traditional energy sources that had to be imported.

Adding storage to the grid, allows renewable energy

to supply base load power,

reducing the need for traditional sources of energy.

Now, it's true, storage still does have a long way to go.

But if you look at how far it's come over the last 10 years

you'll see that times are changing fast.

At this point, with news of all these innovations,

you might be surprised and even intrigued.

But there's always a few diehards ready to grasp

at the last straw.

But aren't wind and solar energy bird killers?

It would be safer for wildlife

if we just kept on using fossil fuels.

It's true, that wind turbines do kill birds.

They kill about 300,000 birds every year,

that die by running into their blades.

But if we were really concerned about birds,

there's an easy way to balance the scales.

Did you know that cellphone towers kill 6 million birds

a year, and outdoor cats kill 3 billion birds a year.

That's right, reducing the outdoor cat population

by 0.01% would have the same effect

as getting rid of all our wind turbines.

And that's not even counting the fact that every year

fossil fuel pollution kills 200,000 people

in the United States alone,

And around the entire world, about 2.5 million people.

And that continued dependence on fossil fuels

is estimated to lead to the total extinction,

yes the total extinction of more than 30%

of all species in the world.

Cutting down on kitties won't fix that.

I live in West Texas, where every time you turn around

these days, it seems like there's a new crop

of shiny white wind turbines

that have sprung up overnight.

I admit, I'm one of those people

who thinks they look good.

But I often hear from people who are concerned

by the boom.

Probably my favorite myth is the idea

that too many wind turbines will,

by capturing so much wind, slow the rotation of the earth.

They can't.

But, by continuing to use fossil fuels,

and unsustainably withdrawing water

from underground aquifers,

and melting the massive ice sheets that anchor the poles,

the irony is that we are affecting the earth's

axes of rotation.

So if that's what you're concerned about,

bring on the wind turbines.

The reality is, that we need energy.

Clean energy that doesn't pollute our air and our water,

that doesn't run out on us, and that can supply our needs,

and the needs of all of us who share this planet.

Old and young, rich and poor.

People with insomnia have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. Some people with insomnia wake up too early in the morning and arent able to return to sleep.

People with insomnia typically dont get enough sleep or dont feel well-rested in the morning despite having had enough time for sleep.

Insomnia isnt defined by a set number of hours of sleep per night, because some people need more sleep than others. Episodes of insomnia can be occasional or last for a long time.

Insomnia is the most common sleep complaint in the United States. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine estimates that about 30 percent of U.S. adults have some symptoms of insomnia. About 10 percent of U.S. adults have chronic insomnia.

Chronic insomnia is defined as sleep problems that last for four weeks or longer. Insomnia is most common in women and older adults. Common symptoms of insomnia include:.

Variable sleep (a few nights of poor sleep followed by a night or two of better sleep). Feelings of fatigue or reduced energy. Forgetfulness.

Irritability. Anxiety. Depression. Increased errors or accidents during daily tasks.

boasted of "our nuclear bombs and H-bombs" and warned all-out war was on the horizon.   Despot has repeatedly promised to rain fire down on America, South Korea and Japan in an ever-tightening spiral of threat and counter-threat.

  Now another provocative warning has been issued by the secretive state, a week after US president Donald Trump said he would "totally destroy" North Korea.

  A statement issued by a North Korean committee dedicated to the reunification of the peninsula hit out at Mr Trump and warned of a deadly comeuppance.

The message featured in a Pyongyang-based propaganda newspaper said: "Trumps rubbish is the open declaration of war against our supreme dignity, state, social system and people, and an unpardonable extra-large provocation.

"This is not a just invective of Trump but a vivid revelation of the vicious hostile policy of the US administration toward the DPRK and its wicked intention to ignite a war." Auction, another website, also reported a surge in demand.  They said sales for hand-held radios had risen 46 per cent and combat rations by 77 per cent from September 2 to 5.

This was around the time North Korea carried out a highly provocative nuclear test, a move which sent alarm bells ringing from Washington to Japan.  One employee of a shipping company said: "I was confused at first but I thought it wouldn't be bad to have a war survival kit at home after watching recent news.".

What is Heaven All About? - Two Minute Message - Duration: 2:02.

Welcome to today's Two Minute Message.

Today I wanna talk with you about heaven.

What is heaven?

Now, here's the thing you need to realize,

according to the Bible, this life

we're on a journey, a pilgrimage through this,

that this is not our forever home, that's where heaven is.

See now heaven is the place where you and I

are no longer limited by time and space.

It's where God dwells and where we know,

just as we are known.

The book of Psalms says that in heaven

there is fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore.

That word fullness literally speaks of a glass

that is so full that everything is pouring out over it.

So when I think of heaven, I realize that I wanna be there,

but for many people, heaven and the idea of heaven,

is off-putting because this is the only life that we know,

and for many people, they're giving up

their ability to experience life on this side for heaven.

Now what I always tell people is that Jesus is interested

in us maximizing our lives,

this life and the next life.

He wants to give us an abundant life now

through the power of the Holy Spirit

and he wants to give us an eternal life in the hereafter.

And we wanna have all of that

because eternity is important.

But what's also beautiful is that

for those of you who have put your faith and trust in Jesus,

and I pray that all of you are doing that,

that all of you are walking with Jesus.

When Jesus places his Holy Spirit in you,

through your faith in him,

you get to be a little slice of heaven here on earth,

that because the spirit of God is changing

and transforming us, now all of the sudden,

we get to experience a little bit of heaven

right here on this side,

until we get to to be there later.

So listen, we wanna respond to this.

What does it look like for you to be a little slice

of heaven for people on this side of earth?

For you to be salt and light,

to show people what heaven is gonna be like,

that you're almost trailer for heaven

in this life right here and right now.

Recent research from the University Of Maryland School of Medicine presented at the 2011 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) annual conference found a link between mental stress and the narrowing of blood vessels, which can restrict blood flow and lead to atherosclerosis.

Laughter, however, had the opposite effect. So get the pals you love most together for a good chuckle more often.

For the study, participants watched segments of a funny movie, like "There's Something About Mary" on one day and a stressful movie such as "Saving Private Ryan" on another day.

The stressful film caused vasoconstriction, or narrowing of the blood vessels, while the comedy caused the vessels to expand.

"The magnitude of change we saw in the endothelium [blood vessel lining] after laughing was consistent and similar to the benefit we might see with aerobic exercise or statin use," Michael Miller MD, a professor of medicine and lead investigator, said in a release from the ESC.

In two randomized, controlled trials published in Human Communication Research, healthy college students who spent 20 minutes writing about their affection for loved ones (friends, relatives, and/or romantic partners) experienced significant drops in total cholesterol (the mean cholesterol levels reduced from 170 mg/dL to 159 mg/dL), while students in the control group, who wrote about random topics, did not.

Researchers measured each participant's level of positive affect based on a 12-minute in-person interview and checked health records over the following 10 years to look for incidences of cardiovascular disease.

They also found that those with higher positive affect were more likely to be female, less likely to smoke, had lower levels of total cholesterol, and lower levels of hostility and anxiousness, suggesting that a positive attitude contributes to better health overall, according to the study.

Researchers recruited happily married couples and placed each woman in an M.R.I. scanner, preparing her to feel a mild shock to the ankle.

Of course, the women were anxious. But feeling their husbands' hands (the husbands reached into the scanners) reduced the women's brain activity associated with anticipating pain. The study also found that a stranger's touch provided comfort, but less so than a spouse.

High stress and anxiety are linked to high blood pressure, increased heart rate, and other factors that can contribute to heart disease, such as weight gain.

In the stresses and worries of everyday life, this research lends new meaning to the phrase "helping hand.".

Welcome to the Silent D Motor Show.

I'm your host Silent D. In this episode we're

going to take a drive around London in this very unique Morris Minor.

But first

let's go and meet the builder and owner Matt at his garage and he will explain exactly

why it's so unique and why this is quite possibly the best, and certainly most

affordable car, you can drive in London right now.

check out your Morris Minor.

Hey Erlend, how you doing?

Good, how are you?

Very well thanks.

Would you like a cup of tea?

Yes, please.

Brilliant.

Here you go! Thank you!

So it's a 1953 Series II Morris Minor.

That we have taken..., it's completely original,

so we've taken out the 1098 motor that was originally in it, and

we've replaced that with an electric motor and batteries.

And who's... who are we?

That's your company, right?

So it's London Electric Cars, something I started in December last year and

I'm trying to figure out ways of getting people driving electric cars in a more

affordable way.

Can we have a look? Yes, absolutely!

We have nine prismatic

Thunder Sky cells at the front, we've got another 16 in the boot where the fuel

tank used to be.

The motor is under the front battery pack.

You can just see it

through the grill and it's bolted directly to the original gearbox, so we

kept the gearbox, four-speed gearbox.

So you can use the gears if you want to.

But in reality, I tend to, you start in second, drive around like an automatic

and then occasionally put it into fourth, and skip third gear, and the fourth is a

straight-through drive gear, so it becomes completely silent.

Can we take it for a ride?

Absolutely!

Let's go for spin.

So we're in second gear right now, as a start, I didn't use a clutch, you'll see I'm

just on the gas basically.

And then...

And when we get going I'll stick it in forth.

And it just becomes completely quiet.

And here watch, if we stick to forth,

so clutch in, into fourth.

Now we're in fourth, can you hear that's a

street through drive.

Noise completely disappears.

So the Morris Minor is

basically the Volkswagen Beetle of England, right? Yes, it's the British Beetle.

Exactly.

They made over a million of them.

They made them for 20 years basically, maybe 25 years.

Every British family has like a story of,

you know, the Minor in the family.

And they made.. like I've seen the Pickup, Van...

Yeah!

Yeah! The Traveler,

the Convertible, and then also quite often they'll take the

Saloon, the two-door Saloon like this and turn it into Convertible.

Yeah, they made

tons of variants.

The Vans are very sought-after.

And it's one of those cars, that you know, you find them everywhere, and that's part

of the, the sort of argument of getting people to drive old electric, so old cars

convert to electric, is just that they're cheap.

Getting spare parts for it is really easy.

Every junkyard seems to have a few in them.

And they're just so easy to maintain.

The average journey in London is 4 to

5 miles.

This has a range of 45 miles.

Which is...

I've done that.., you know, some

people might say oh that's a bit short, but it's been done because that's...

it's much cheaper.

The most expensive parts of the car is the battery pack.

And

in this case it's got a 13 kilowatt battery pack.

If you compare that to say

a Tesla where I think the base model is now 75, used to be 65, and they got rid of

that, and now I think it's 75.

So they're 75 kilowatts to 100 kilowatts, this is 13.

Imagine the difference in cost.

But if the average journey in London is 4 to 5 miles,

and this can do 45 miles on a charge...

I charge it once a week.

I charge it

at home, and yeah just sort of when I feel like it really.

And you told me earlier that

it's about 1 pound per charge.

Yes.

So you spend fifty quid a year.

Yeah, well, and

then and then as you're saying you don't condone it but there's an awful lot of

unclaimed 13 amp sockets lying around London, and people are very generous, you

know, if you rock up in your electric car and you say - do you mind if I plug in for

a few hours?

They say - yeah, go for it!

You know, they want to talk to you about it.

So, to be honest I rarely pay to charge it.

We're in the Congestion Zone right now, which means...

that to enter it you have to pay 12,50 pounds these days.

Per day?

Per day, yep.

But with this being an electric car,

it's free.

Road tax, this is free.

It's also free because it's an old car, if

your car is over 40 years old you don't pay road tax.

And what about insurance?

So insurance...

It's classic car insurance, but you then call them up and say it's been

converted and they'll generally then use that as an excuse to charge you a bit more,

but not a lot.

You also become really aware when you're in a car like this how gross

all the other cars are.

You know, it's just that they're just sitting here,

particularly these taxis.

Just [engine noise].

I smile at other electric car drivers because we're

the sort of fellow non-polluters, but obviously they can't tell that I'm in

an electric car, so they just think I'm crazy!

So there's like nothing on this

car other than the lack of the noise of the combustion engine that would give it away?

Well the lack of exhaust pipe.

Oh yeah there's that.

And then the fact I've got a big sign in the back

window, but you only see that if you're behind me, so...

So people are being like

really nice to you when you drive around in this, right?

Oh totally!

You can get away with anything?

Yeah, so for example we're about to make a right-hand turn here I'm not allowed to

make a right-hand turn, but I don't think anyone's gonna complain.

No, no, hold on, I can't do this,

there's a police car here.

They're gonna give me shit.

So what would you say are

good cars is to do this kind of conversions?

Well, so, I would say.. all the Morrises are great, lots of people have

done Beetles.

Those are the sort of main ones you get coming out of California.

But yeah anything really.

I mean as long as there's plenty of space, which most

of these cars do have these days, they have tons, you know, compared to

modern cars, there's so much space in them, because it's just not all the...

What about a Volvo 240?

Ah, hell yeah!

I think that'd be awesome to do!

I don't know Erlend.

Huh, yeah go then.

Hehe ok.

So what do I gotta do?

Just try..

If you put your foot on the gas you'll hear the

motor to spin a little bit. Gently.

Can you hear that?

Yeah.

Okay, so then you just put it into second gear.

You don't need to put the clutch down.

Oh. Straight into second gear.

There you go.

And then you just go!

This is easy enough.

Yeah.

Did you feel the engine braking there?

Yeah.

That's the re-gen braking.

Can also feel how right when you put your foot down there's a slight pause,

because I turn down like the initial hit from the torque just to save the old

drivetrain, it just slightly feeds in.

I feel like it's really responsive though.

Oh yeah yeah yeah, I mean,

if you jam it, it'll go!

Wow.

She has a hugely successful business and Caitlyn doesnt want to see that taken away from her. By contrast, a source previously claimed that Kylies family are over the moon with the prospect of the reality star having a baby.

Meanwhile, another insider revealed Kylie had always wanted to be a young mother.

The source explained: Kylie is doing well and is happy. Kylie always wanted to be a young mom. She may be young, but shes very maternal and has lots of practice with babies!.

Shes a very hands-on aunt and was basically a step-mom to Tygas kid. The baby will be very well cared for and so loved. Kylie is excited that her baby will have cousins close to her age too!.

KHLOE Kardashian is reportedly expecting her first child with boyfriend Tristan Thompson. Us Weekly reports that multiple sources have confirmed the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star is pregnant.

Khloe Kardashian is expecting her first child with boyfriend Tristan Thompson. TMZ are also reporting the news and claim the reality star is three months pregnant.

They also claim that Khloe conceived naturally - after previously undergoing fertility treatments with ex-husband Lamar Odom - and doesnt know the sex of the baby.

It comes just days after her youngest sister Kylie Jenner, 20, was revealed to be expecting her first child with boyfriend Travis Scott.

Khloe has been open about her desire to start a family for years and it was first reported back in August that she was pregnant.

Heat magazine reported that Khloe, 33, and NBA basketball player Tristan, 26, were on cloud nine after discovering the happy news. The insider revealed: Everyone is so happy Khloess going to be a mom at last. Shes wanted this for so long.

Hi guys, today I like to talk about why kumamon is popular around the world.

this is a very serious program

because I am going to analyze why kumamon is so popular in Japan

in Asia

and even around the world.

Before I talk about why it is popular

We have to know a little bit of history about kumamon

if you don't know about the history

it is hard to understand why it is popular

it is hard to analyze what happened

actually, Kumamon came to the world in 2010

the main reason he came to the world

due to the open of kyushu train

kyushu railway is connected between Osaka and kyushu

well, I like osaka

I wanna go there

When the shinkansen operates, many people in kansai can go to kyushu

It doesn't mean they like to come to kumamoto prefecture

because of the large network of railway, people not only go to kumamoto prefecture

but also miyazaki

I am not talking about the movie director, miyazaki

I like him so much though

and (I like) every movie made by miyazaki

except miyazaki prefecture

but in 2012

around 30 million yen

these are the crucial years

I like to talk about how I analyze it first

for me, I not only focus on the marketing strategies

of course I will talk about some strategies such as

Kumamoto governor said he did the ground battle strategies (from this book)

They did the sky battle strategies

we will talk about these in the end

as I think many people have talked about these before

first I will look at the economic situation (in japan in 2011 and 2012)

or the political situation

and other environmental factors

in japan from 2010 to 2012

at the same time, we will look at timing

did they do something at the right time ?

for example

the free licensing marketing strategy

there are many Japanese idol groups or mascots which make use of this strategy

the kyushu railway was also connected with osaka

in 2012, people in kansai area

when they went travelling, they didn't go to tohoku region (due to radiation)

but going south

there were more people going to the south part

at the same time, other Asian travelers swarmed to kyushu for visit as well

the exposure of kumamon increased

in 2010 and 2011

kumamoto governor did many marketing (campaign) in Osaka

the governor made a "fake" press conference

to say that kumamon hanged around in Osaka

if they did it after 2 years later

if they did it right now (in 2017), actually it doesn't work

because at that time

there were not so many youtube videos

in japan

at that time, even hajime was not that famous

it is easy for the governor to spread the message (he wanted)

to tell the people in osaka what kumamon did

there are not so many Japanese governor to do such unusual thing

to make this kind of joke

with the mascot

that's why it drew the attention from people in Osaka

we also have to give credit to osaka people

if they did it in other prefectures

it might not work

people in Osaka are well known for its funniness and friendliness.

they liked this joke,and searched for kumamon as well

it created the big news in osaka

even all over Japan

to give a high opportunity for the exposure of kumamon

Moreover

the value of yen in 2012 went down, down and down

what does it mean ?

it means it's easy for Japanese companies to export the products all over the world

at the same time, it's easy to attract customers coming to Japan

as they could buy cheaper yen and traveled in Japan

it was the reason to attract tourists coming to Kyushu to visit

at that time

kumamoto government offered the free license for companies

to use kumamon items

many of those companies were foreign companies

that exported the products (related to kumamon) all over the world

of course, you have to appreciate the marketing strategies from the kumamoto government

I mentioned there were sky battle and sky battle (strategies)

I like to talk about the ground battle strategies first

they sent kumamon to participate in different kinds of events

this's a very good marketing strategy

kids would ask their parents to buy something about kumamon as well

it's a very smart strategy

if you wanna sell the products

if the kids like it

it's easy to get money from their parents

for the sky battle

I have to give a credit to the kumamoto governor

when they visited different countries

they would bring this fat guy

so cute !

to help increase the exposure of kumamon as well

That's why I mentioned about ground battle and sky battle strategies

there are many factors to make kumamon so popular

like 311 earthquake

to get more people who came to kyushu

People in Osaka like it, so many people in kansai area came to visit kyushu

at the same time

Asian people like cute things

free licensing strategies

the right timing

the value of yen went down

it helped Japanese companies to export the products to the world way more easily

there are many factors in fact

That's what I think about why kumamon is so popular
