Fulham make stunning £18million bid for Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle to help with their Championship promotion push

FULHAM have made a stunning club record £18 million bid for Dwight Gayle. The Championship club are ready to bust the bank to finally achieve promotion back to the Premier League.

Newcastle are currently pondering whether to accept the offer or not but are reluctant to let striker Gayle go.

The player must have been fazed by the shock bid from Fulham as he turned up four hours early for training this morning at 9am when the squad was not due in until 1pm.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic wants more firepower up front after seeing his team stutter in their start to the new season. They won their first league match 2-0 at Ipswich on Saturday but goals have been hard to come by.

Gayle scored 23 goals in 32 appearances last season. After reaching the play-off semi finals last season Jokanovic sees Gayle as the man to make the difference and get them back to the top flight after four years in the Championship.

Fulham's current highest fee paid is £11. 5 for Steve Marlet in 2001. The £18m would be the result of add-ons but could ultimately become the division's biggest ever signing.

Fulham are also on the trail of Wolves' highly-rated winger Jordan Graham who is also attracting interest from League Leicester.

CHELSEA have reportedly had a £45million bid for Riyad Mahrez accepted by Leicester City.

However someone should have really alerted Leicester because no-one at the King Power Stadium is aware of the mystery figure who has sanctioned the deal!.

But BeIN Sports are claiming that the Premier League champions have been given the green light to push ahead with the deal.

The Algerian remains a Fox for now… just as he did despite all the Arsenal rumours in the summer… and in January….

and amid a bucketful of Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona rumours now.

We reported earlier how Mahrez had been given permission to leave his national teams training base this morning to finalise his transfer out of Leicester.

He was pictured with a fan at a Paris Charles De Gaulle with his destination unknown.

It was understood he was heading to London and Stamford Bridge to sign for Chelsea.

Barcelona were also reported to be interested in the 2015-16 title winner but it appears Antonio Conte who has won the race for the wide man.

    The 2016 PFA Player of the Year has started in each of Leicester's opening three fixtures as the Foxes have battled to keep hold of the player.

But they now appear to have accepted defeat.

  Mahrez had been the subject of three bids from Italian Serie A side Roma but a move to LA Liga or within the Premier League was always his target.

The 26-year-old joined Leicester from Le Havre in January 2014 and signed a new four-year deal with the club in August 2015.
