Today I want to talk to you a little bit about workers' compensation.

Workers' compensation is an insurance coverage that's required by employers who have three

or more employees.

It's there to make sure employees are covered for any injuries and medical expenses that

they have in the course of their employment.

It's important to know that in North Carolina the estimates are that there's approximately

30,000 employers that don't have worker's compensation coverage.

Particularly if you're doing a dangerous job, a heavy labor job, a job that's up in the

air, you should make sure to check with your employer to make sure they have worker's compensation

insurance coverage.

Very briefly, workers' compensation covers your time where you're out of work.

It covers your medical expenses, your lost wages, and can pay you if you have a permanent

disability.

The system many times takes care of itself and takes care of employees particularly if

it's a minor injury.

But if it's a serious injury that affects your ongoing wage-earning capacity, you should

consult with an attorney who handles worker's compensation cases.
