Hit comedy Miranda is set to make shock return two years after the 'finale' saw character marry Gary
HIT BBC comedy Miranda is to make an unexpected return — two years after its "finale".
Miranda Hart, 44, the writer and main star, plans to team up with Tom Ellis, 38, who plays screen husband Gary, to script a comeback, a source said.
More than seven million people saw them tie the knot in "The Final Curtain" on January 1, 2015 after which Hart said: "I don't know when and if I'll see you again.
But the source confirmed: "Miranda and Tom are meeting in the next fortnight to discuss what a new series would look like and how they'd take on the story of her and Gary. This will be music to fans' ears.".
Talking this week, Tom told BBC's Radio 2: Talking this week Tom, who also stars in Fox series Lucifer, told BBC's Radio 2: "We may be revisiting Miranda in the next couple of years.
Miranda: Her top ten funniest moments. I'm going to see her in the next few weeks.".
The show ran for two series on BBC2, before it was bumped up to BBC1. Since starring in Miranda, the actress has become a household name.
In 2012, Hart began to appear in the BBC One drama, Call the Midwife playing the character of Camilla 'Chummy' Fortescue-Cholmondeley-Browne.
She was all set to return as cheery nurse Chummy in the BBC1 show's Christmas special and its sixth series but pulled out last minute due to a mystery illness.
She was also forced to turn down the chance to remake Frankie Howerd's classic sitcom Up Pompeii and a remake of The Generation Game. In December 2013, she appeared in David Walliams' film adaptation of his book Gangsta Granny.
And in 2015, she co-starred in the comedy film Spy, alongside hard man Jason Statham and American comic Melissa McCarthy.
