U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis gave the opening speech for the 16th Asia Security

Summit in Singapore, and singled out North Korea as a "clear and present danger to the

world."

Mattis urged the international community to work together and bring about the regime's

denuclearization, and also said the United States will take additional measures to defend

itself from the North's escalating threats.

The U.S. defense chief also used the opportunity to commend China for its recent efforts toward

containing the regime, but also criticized Beijing for its ongoing disputes regarding

control of the South China Sea.
