Trigger Points for Front Thigh Pain (Sartorius) - Massage Monday #401 - Duration: 1:47.

Hi everyone.

I am Yasuko and it's time for Massage Monday.

This week I'm going to show the Trigger Points for front thigh pain, specifically for the

pain pattern that comes from the hip bone, across the thigh and to the inner knee.

Sometimes the trigger points that cause certain pain are located remotely and not where it

hurts, which makes Trigger Point Therapy very fascinating.

But in this case, they are located where it hurts on the muscle called Sartorius.

Here is a beautiful display of Sartorius.

It's the longest muscle in your body.

In the anatomy class, we were taught "Sartorius is notorious for being the longest muscle

in the body" as how to remember this muscle.

You can locate this muscle by bending the knee and turning the knee outward.

When you kick a soccer ball this muscle is really used.

I have seen anywhere from 3 to 6 trigger points on this particular muscle.

If any of these locations are painful, massage with slow deep strokes with supported fingers

or overlapped thumbs to release them.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for watching.

I'll see you back next week.

Make it a great week.

Feel free to comment below and please don't forget to subscribe.

>> Ian: ON THIS MONDAY NIGHT AN

EXTRAORDINARY RESCUE OPERATION

DEEP IN A CAVE IN NORTHERN

THAILAND.

HOW 12 BOYS AND THEIR SOCCER

COACH SURVIVED NINE DAYS TRAPPED

IN A CAVERN FILLING WITH

FLOODWATERS.

IT WAS A DANGEROUS JOURNEY TO

GET THEM OUT.

>>> ALSO TONIGHT, CALLS FOR

ACTION AFTER A VIOLENT LONG

WEEKEND ON TORONTO'S STREETS.

>>> AND OVERRUN BY INSTAGRAM.

THE SMALL COMMUNITY CRACKING

DOWN ON THE HUNT FOR THE PERFECT

SELFIE.

THIS IS "THE NATIONAL."

(*)

(*)

>>> THERE IS A RISKY RESCUE

OPERATION UNFOLDING RIGHT NOW IN

THORNE THAILAND.

-- NORTHERN THAILAND.

12 YOUNG SOCCER PLAYERS AND

THEIR COACH WHO WENT MISSING

NINE DAYS AGO.

WELL, TODAY THE RESCUERS DID

FIND THEM DEEP WITHIN A COMPLEX

CAVE SYSTEM.

AND RESCUING THEM IS GOING TO BE

DELICATE AND CHALLENGING.

AS BRIAR STEWART TELLS US,

GETTING TO THE BOYS AND THEIR

COACH WAS EXTRAORDINARY.

>> HOW MANY OF YOU ARE THERE?

13?

BRILLIANT.

>> Reporter: AFTER DAYS

SEARCHING THROUGH DARK FLOODED

CHAMBERS THIS WAS THE MOMENT

THAT RESCUERS FOUND THE ENTIRE

SOCCER TEAM ALIVE.

ONE OF THEIR FIRST QUESTIONS,

JUST WHAT DAY IS IT?

>> MONDAY.

>> MONDAY.

YOU'RE VERY STRONG.

>> Reporter: THE BOYS AND THEIR

COACH WENT IN THE CAVE AS PART

OF A TEAM OUTING BUT HEAVY RAIN

FLOODED THE WAY OUT, TRAPPING

THEM DEEP INSIDE.

RESCUE CREWS, INCLUDING THOSE

FROM THE U.K., CHINA AND THE

U.S., HAD BEEN PAINSTAKINGLY

SEARCHING IN THE TREACHEROUS

CONDITIONS WHILE ABOVE GROUND

RESIDENTS AND RELATIVES HELD

VIGIL.

BUT TODAY THAT SILENCE WAS

BROKEN BY THE SOUND OF CHEERS.

>> [speaking foreign

language].

[Cheers and Applause]

>> Reporter: WE FOUND THAT OUR

YOUNGER BROTHERS ARE SAFE, SAID

THE GOVERNOR OF THAILAND'S

CHIANG RAI PROVINCE.

FOR FAMILY MEMBERS IT WAS THE

KIND OF NEWS THEY HAD BEEN

DESPERATELY BEEN WAITING FOR.

AS FURTHER PROOF THEY WERE SENT

PICTURES THAT THE RESCUERS HAD

TAKEN OF THEIR SONS IN THE CAVE.

>> [speaking foreign

language].

>> Reporter: TODAY IS THE BEST

DAY, SHE SAYS, I'VE BEEN WAITING

FOR MY SON FOR SO MANY DAYS.

I THOUGHT THAT HE ONLY HAD A 50%

CHANCE OF SURVIVAL.

BUT THE RESCUE EFFORT IS FAR

FROM COMPLETE.

CREWS HAVE FOUND THE BOYS BUT

THE CHALLENGE NOW SHIFTS TO

TRYING TO GET THEM OUT OF THE

FLOODED INTRICATE CAVE SYSTEM.

>> THAILAND, OF COURSE, IF YOU

HAVE BEEN USING SCUBA GEAR TO

GET TO THEM YOU HAVE TO USE

SCUBA GEAR TO GET THEM OUT.

>> Reporter: DEDMOND ROWE IS

AN

EXPERIENCED CAVE RESCUER AND

SAYS THAT THERE'S STILL SERIOUS

RISKS WHEN THERE'S SO MUCH WATER

IN THE CAVE.

>> THE ENVIRONMENT THAT THEY'RE

IN WILL HAVE NEXT TO NO

VISIBILITY AND FAIRLY STRONG

CURRENT AND VERY SERIOUS

NAVIGATION HAZARDS.

CERTAINLY, THAT'S THE RISKIEST

WAY TO EXTRACT SOMEBODY.

EVEN WHEN YOU FIND THEM IT'S

THROUGH A DIVE.

>> Reporter: CREWS ARE WORKING

TO DRAIN OUT SOME OF THE WATER

AND A MEDICAL TEAM HAS BEEN SENT

IN TO ASSESS THEIR HEALTH.

>> MANY PEOPLE ARE COMING...

>> Reporter: THE BOYS AND

THEIR COACH HAVE ALSO BEEN GIVEN

ENERGY GEL TO EAT AND BECAUSE

EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE BEEN

TRAPPED FOR DAYS AND TO FINALLY

TO BE FOUND --

>> WE'RE HAPPY TOO.

>> Reporter: IT'S GOING TO

TAKE MORE TIME TO TRY TO SAFELY

GET THEM OUT.

BRIAR STEWART, CBC NEWS,

VANCOUVER.

>> Ian: THE MASSIVE MARATHON

SEARCH IS THE LARGEST EVER

CONDUCTED IN THAILAND INVOLVING

MORE THAN A THOUSAND PEOPLE FROM

HALF A DOZEN COUNTRIES.

AS YOU HAVE HEARD THERE'S A LOT

COMPLICATING THE RESCUE EFFORT.

THE BOYS AND THEIR COACH

VENTURED INTO THE CAVE DESPITE

THE SIGNS WARNING PEOPLE TO STAY

AWAY DURING THE RAINY SEASON.

THAT RUNS FROM JUNE TO NOVEMBER.

SO WHEN MONSOON RAINS FELL TWO

SATURDAYS AGO IT SWAMPED THE

TUNNELS AND TRAPPED THEM INSIDE.

THE SPRAWLING CAVE COMPLEX MADE

IT

TOUGH FOR THE RESCUERS TO FIND

THEM.

A COMPLICATED NETWORK OF SNAKING

PATHWAYS STRETCHING 10

KILOMETRES BENEATH THE MOUNTAINS

OF NORTHERN THAILAND.

THE FOURTH LONGEST IN THE

COUNTRY.

BECAUSE NO HIGH-TECH METHODS

EXIST RIGHT NOW TO SCAN FOR

PEOPLE DEEP UNDERGROUND, THE

MASSIVE SEARCH OPERATION WAS

SEEN AS THE ONLY SOLUTION.

WHAT RESCUERS ENCOUNTERED TRYING

TO FIND THE GROUP, WELL, THOSE

OBSTACLES WILL BE THE SAME AS

THEY TRY TO GET THE BOYS OUT.

DEEP INSIDE THE CAVE IT'S SO

DARK THAT RESCUERS DESCRIBE IT

LIKE SWIMMING IN COFFEE.

THE WATER IS SO MUDDY THAT

DIVERS CAN ONLY SEE A FEW

CENTIMETRES IN FRONT OF THEM.

THE CORRIDOR IS SO TINY AND

NARROW THAT THE RESCUERS CAN'T

GO TOO FAR OR THEY RISK RUNNING

OUT OF AIR THEMSELVES.

AND THOSE WATER LEVELS IN SOME

PLACES WERE RISING MORE THAN 15

CENTIMETRES EVERY HOUR.

RAIN SIMPLY FLOODING IN AS THEY

NOW TRY TO PUMP IT OUT.

AS YOU WOULD EXPECT THE SEARCH

HAS BEEN RIVETING FOR PEOPLE IN

THAILAND AND TO GET A SENSE OF

HOW THOSE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN

REACTING I SPOKE TO PANU

WONGCHA-UM, A REUTERS

CORRESPONDENT WHO IS JUST

OUTSIDE OF THE CAVES.

PANU, REMIND US HERE IN CANADA

ABOUT THE SORT OF THE UPS AND

DOWNS OF THE LAST NINE DAYS.

WHAT'S IT BEEN LIKE IN THAILAND

AND ESPECIALLY AT THE SEARCH

SITE OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS?

>> WELL, IT'S BEEN A HUGE STORY

FOR THAIS ACROSS THE NATION.

AND IT IS REALLY A TIME WHEN THE

ENTIRE NATION CAME TOGETHER

REALLY TO GIVE THEIR SUPPORT, TO

VOICE THEIR CONCERNS, AND AT THE

SAME TIME THAT THERE WERE

MOMENTS OF ANXIETY AND EVEN

DESPAIR OVER THE PAST FEW DAYS

WHEN DIFFERENT EFFORTS OF THE

SEARCH WAS NOT YIELDING ANY

RESULTS.

ALL OF THAT CHANGED OVERNIGHT

WHEN THE DISCOVERY WAS MADE THAT

THE 12 BOYS AND THEIR COACH IS

ALIVE AND RELATIVELY WELL.

>> Ian: AND YOU HAD THE

PRIVILEGE OF SEEING FIRSTHAND

THE FAMILY MEMBERS GETTING THE

NEWS.

I WANT TO PLAY THAT VIDEO THAT

YOU PUT ON TWITTER.

LET'S TAKE A LOOK...

[Cheers and Applause]

WHAT AN EXTRAORDINARY MOMENT AND

AS WE LOOK AT YOUR PICTURES

DESCRIBE FOR US WHAT IT WAS LIKE

TO BE THERE AS THIS WAS

HAPPENING.

>> EARLIER WE HEARD AN

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE PROVINCIAL

GOVERNOR ABOUT THE SURVIVAL OF

THE 13 PEOPLE, BUT WE WEREN'T

QUITE SURE OURSELVES AND WE SAW

HOW THE NEWS WAS DELIVERED TO

THE

RELATIVES AND THEY WERE CRYING

FOR JOY.

AND THIS IS ALSO FOR THE PEOPLE

AROUND THEM, OFFICIALS AND

RESCUERS AND JOURNALISTS.

THIS HASN'T BEEN THE MOST EASY

STORY TO COVER.

THERE WERE TIMES OF FRUSTRATION

AND ANXIETY THAT WE SHARED WITH

WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE SEARCH

EFFORT.

BUT ALL OF THIS CHANGED NOW

SINCE THE DISCOVERY AND WE HOPE

THAT THE NEXT PHASE OF THE

RESCUE OPERATION WILL BE AS

SUCCESSFUL.

>> Ian: OKAY, PANU, THANK YOU

VERY MUCH FOR SPEAKING WITH US.

>> THANK YOU.

>> Ian: HERE'S A LOOK AT WHAT

ELSE WE'RE WORKING ON TONIGHT...

>>> FORMER PRIME MINISTER

STEPHEN HARPER IS SPOTTED

LEAVING THE WHITE HOUSE A DAY

AFTER CANADA HIT BACK AT THE

U.S. WITH ITS OWN TARIFFS.

WE'LL LOOK AT THE ESCALATING

TRADE WAR.

>>> AND WHEN NAFTA NEGOTIATIONS

RESUME THERE WILL BE A NEW

PLAYER AT THE TABLE -- THE NEWLY

ELECTED MEXICAN PRESIDENT WHO

HAS RAILED AGAINST DONALD TRUMP

IN THE PAST.

>>> BUT, FIRST, THE CITY OF

TORONTO IS TRYING TO GET A

HANDLE ON GUN VIOLENCE AFTER A

VIOLENT LONG WEEKEND.

>>> ON SATURDAY A SHOOTING IN

THE CITY'S ENTERTAINMENT

DISTRICT LEFT TWO PEOPLE DEAD

AND ONE INJURED AND THEN LAST

NIGHT GUNFIRE AGAIN RANG OUT IN

THE DOWNTOWN CORE.

FOUR PEOPLE WERE HURT.

THE POLICE CHIEF INSISTS THAT

THE CITY IS SAFE BUT AT A VIGIL

FOR ONE VICTIM NOT EVERYONE IS

REASSURED.

A 21-YEAR-OLD RAPPER KNOWN AS

SMOKE DAWG WAS ONE OF THE PEOPLE

KILLED ON SATURDAY.

JACQUELINE HANSEN IS AT A

GATHERING TO REMEMBER HIM.

JACQUELINE?

>> Reporter: IAN, THE PEOPLE

HERE WANT THE VIOLENCE TO STOP.

THIS IS A DISPLAY OF WHAT

JAHVANTE SMART MEANT TO HIS

FAMILY, HIS FRIENDS AND THE

COMMUNITY, BUT IT IS ALSO A

REFLECTION OF AN UNSETTLING

REALITY OF HOW VIOLENCE IN THIS

CITY IS TAKING THE LIVES OF

YOUNG PEOPLE.

JUST LAST NIGHT THERE WAS

ANOTHER CANDLELIGHT VIGIL,

ERNEST MODEKWE WAS SHOT AND

KILLED SATURDAY ALONG WITH SMART

IN BROAD DAYLIGHT.

>> I DON'T WANT TO SEE MY

FRIENDS DYING AND STUFF.

I LOST TWO OF MY FRIENDS IN ONE

DAY, YOU KNOW, SO IT'S NOT JUST

RIGHT WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE

CITY, YOU KNOW?

>> Reporter: WHILE SUNDAY'S

VIGIL WAS HAPPENING MORE SHOTS

RANG OUT IN THE TOURIST AREA OF

KENSINGTON MARKET.

FOUR PEOPLE WERE INJURED, ONE

SERIOUSLY.

>> I SAW THE MAN, I DON'T KNOW

IF HE DIED OR NOT, BUT HE WAS

GRIPPING FOR HIS LIFE.

>> Reporter: POLICE HAVEN'T

SAID IF ANY ARRESTS HAVE BEEN

MADE.

>> IT MAKES ME FEEL VERY

UNCOMFORTABLE KNOWING THAT

SOMEBODY MIGHT BE BEHIND ME WITH

A GUN.

>> Reporter: POLICE HAVEN'T

REVEALED ANY SUSPECTS IN

SATURDAY'S DEADLY SHOOTING

EITHER.

TORONTO'S MAYOR BLAMES IT ON

GANG VIOLENCE.

YESTERDAY HE REPEATEDLY SEEMED

TO IMPLY THOSE INVOLVED WERE

REPEAT OFFENDERS.

>> WE'VE GOT TO GET A LOT TOUGH

-- TOUGHER ON LETTING PEOPLE OUT

ON BAIL

WHO HAVE PREVIOUS HISTORY WITH

GUN OFFENSES.

>> Reporter: WHEN WE CONTACTED

TORONTO POLICE THE

COMMUNICATIONS TEAM SAID THAT IT

DIDN'T KNOW WHERE HIS

INFORMATION CAME FROM.

AND TODAY THE MAYOR SEEMED TO

WALK IT BACK SLIGHTLY SAYING IN

A STATEMENT, "I'VE ALWAYS

ADVOCATED FOR TOUGHER GUN

CONTROL AND TOUGHER BAIL

CONDITIONS FOR GUN CRIME."

>> WELL, YOU TELL ME...

>> Reporter: STILL, IT HAS

SOME CONCERNED THAT WHOEVER IS

INVOLVED MAY NOT STOP.

>> VIOLENCE IS INTOXICATING AND

ONCE YOU GET INTO VIOLENCE, IT'S

EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN

BACK.

THERE'S A POINT THAT YOU REACH

IN VIOLENCE WHERE CONSEQUENCES

ARE NOT EVEN THOUGHT OF AND I

REALLY, REALLY MEAN THAT.

>> Reporter: ARE YOU WORRIED

THAT WE'RE AT -- --

>> YES, YES, YES I AM.

I AM.

I'M VERY WORRIED.

>> Reporter: DESPITE TWO

SHOOTINGS IN TWO DAYS, IN TWO

WELL-KNOWN AREAS OF CANADA'S

BUSIEST CITY, POLICE CHIEF MARK

SAUNDERS SAYS THAT PEOPLE

SHOULDN'T WORRY.

>> PEOPLE SHOULD FEEL SAFE

DOWNTOWN AND I WILL STAND BY

THAT.

>> Reporter: BUT, IAN, SOME

PEOPLE HERE TONIGHT SAY THAT

THEY DON'T FEEL SAFE, THAT

THEY'RE AFRAID FOR THEMSELVES

AND FOR OTHER YOUNG MEN IN THE

COMMUNITY.

AND ONE YOUNG GIRL HERE SAID

THAT SHE'S AFRAID FOR HER

BROTHER.

>> Ian: AND THE LACK OF

INFORMATION MAY BE DIFFICULT FOR

SOME TO FIND ALL OF THIS

REASSURING WHEN

THEY ARE TOLD THAT THE CITY IS

BASICALLY SAFE.

WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT LAST

NIGHT'S SHOOTING?

>> Reporter: WELL, YEAH, IT'S

BEEN ALMOST 24 HOURS AND WE

STILL DON'T KNOW MUCH.

WE DON'T KNOW WHO THE INJURED

PEOPLE ARE, WHY THEY WERE

TARGETED, IF THEY WERE TARGETED,

AND WHO WAS DOING THE SHOOTING.

AND, IAN, WE STILL DON'T KNOW IF

THERE'S A CONNECTION BETWEEN

SUNDAY'S SHOOTING AND WHAT

HAPPENED ON SATURDAY.

SO AS YOU SAID WHEN THE POLICE

CHIEF

MENTIONED THAT THIS CITY IS SAFE

AND NOT TO WORRY IT'S DIFFICULT

FOR SOME PEOPLE HERE TO DO THAT

WHEN THERE ARE STILL SO MANY

QUESTIONS.

IAN?

>> Ian: THANK YOU, JACQUELINE.

>>> TORONTO'S MAYOR SAYS THAT HE

IS GOING TO REACH OUT TO THE

PREMIER OF ONTARIO AND THE

FEDERAL PUBLIC SAFETY MINISTER

TO MOUNT SOME KIND OF JOINT

EFFORT AGAINST THE VIOLENCE.

FOR THOSE AROUND FOR THE FIRST

SO-CALLED "SUMMER OF THE GUN"

THAT MAY SOUND FAMILIAR.

>> IN REGARDS TO THE GUN PLAY,

IT'S GOTTEN OUT OF HAND.

>> IT HAS TO STOP.

THIS IS TOO MUCH!

>> YOU'RE GOING TO BE THAT

BRAZEN AND WE'RE GOING TO BE

THAT BRAZEN IN WHAT WE NEED TO

DO TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

>> Ian: TORONTO'S "SUMMER OF THE

GUN" ACTUALLY

EXTENDED THROUGHOUT 2005, IN

NIGHTCLUBS AND ON STREETS AND

EVEN IN A CHURCH, TORONTO SAW

GUN VIOLENCE ON A LEVEL THAT IT

HADN'T EXPERIENCED IN DECADES.

THE VICTIMS AS YOUNG AS 4.

>> THE CAR RIGHT THERE WHERE

THAT GRAY CAR IS, THEN THEY

STARTED TO SHOOT ME.

>> Ian: THEN CAME THE BOXING DAY

GUN BATTLE IN THE CITY'S BUSIEST

SHOPPING AREA THAT LEFT A

15-YEAR-OLD DEAD.

POLITICIANS RESPONDED TO THE

PRESSURE TO ACT.

>> SHOULD THEY CHOOSE TO BECOME

A CRIMINAL WITH A GUN, THEN WE

WILL WORK AS HARD AS WE CAN...

>> Ian: MORE PROSECUTORS WERE

HIRED, MORE POLICE AND TORONTO

LAUNCHED TAVES, A NEW POLICE

TASK FORCE

THAT MOVED INTO TROUBLED

NEIGHBOURHOODS.

>> THIS AREA HERE AS WELL IS HOT

TO TROT...

>> Reporter: TAVES WAS

CONTROVERSIAL AND IT RELIED

HEAVILY ON POLICE CHECKS KNOWN

AS "CARDING."

>> THAT PROGRAMME HAS IMPACTED

THIS COMMUNITY AND TRAUMATIZED

THIS COMMUNITY IN WAYS THAT IS

UP TO TODAY.

>> Ian: DID ANY OF IT WORK?

FROM A 2005 HOMICIDE RATE OF TWO

KILLINGS FOR 100,000 RESIDENTS,

TORONTO'S GUN HOMICIDE RATES

STARTED TO TREND DOWNWARD

GRADUALLY.

BUT IT APPEARS THAT A

COUPLE YEARS AGO IT STARTED

RISING AGAIN.

AS OF THIS SUMMER GUN HOMICIDES

ARE ALREADY UP ABOUT 40% FROM

THE SAME TIME LAST YEAR.

WHETHER TORONTO'S STRATEGY WAS

RESPONSIBLE FOR REDUCING THE GUN

VIOLENCE IS NOT CLEAR, BUT TAVES

WAS DISBANDED LAST YEAR AND

ONTARIO'S PREMIER CAMPAIGNED ON

A PROMISE TO BRING IT BACK.

>>> TO OTTAWA NOW WHERE

OFFICIALS ARE STARING DOWN NEW

UNCERTAINTIES ABOUT THE FUTURE

OF THE NORTH AMERICAN FREE-TRADE

AGREEMENT.

AND IT'S NOT JUST BECAUSE OF

DONALD TRUMP BUT A NEW

PRESIDENT-ELECT IN MEXICO.

THIS COMES AS CANADA AND THE

UNITED STATES HAVE BECOME

INCREASINGLY EMBROILED IN A

MESSY TRADE DISPUTE.

AS CATHERINE CULLEN TELLS US,

NEGOTIATIONS ARE GETTING EVEN

MORE COMPLICATED BY THE DAY.

>> Reporter: EVEN THE HUMBLE

HOTDOG ISN'T IMMUNE.

THINK KETCHUP AND MUSTARD BELONG

TOGETHER?

WELL, A TRADE FIGHT HAS THEM ON

UNEQUAL FOOTING.

U.S.-MADE KETCHUP LIKE HEINZ IS

NOW SUBJECT TO A 10% TARIFF FROM

CANADA.

MUSTARD REMAINS TARIFF FREE.

CREATING A CONDIMENT CONUNDRUM.

>> I HAVE TO THINK TWICE AND I

HAVE TO DITCH HEINZ

SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY.

>> CANADA NOT PLAYING NICE.

>> Reporter: PUT ASIDE THE

ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES FOR A

SECOND --

>> I'VE GOT QUESTIONS ABOUT

THIS.

SO TIMS AND BODYWASH, WHY ARE

YOU PUTTING THAT ON YOUR LIST?

>> Reporter: SOME ARE FOCUSING

ON THE FACT THAT

CANADA'S RESPONSE JUST ISN'T

NICE.

>> WE HAVE BEEN VERY NICE TO

CANADA FOR MANY YEARS AND THEY

HAVE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

>> Reporter: OFFICIALS SAID

THEY HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PUSH

BACK, POINTING OUT THAT CANADA'S

RETAILIATION IS INTENDED TO BE

EXACTLY EQUAL TO WHAT THE U.S.

DID FIRST.

TRUMP'S ADMINISTRATION DOESN'T

SEE IT THAT WAY.

>> ESCALATING TARIFFS AGAINST

THE UNITED STATES DOES NOTHING

TO HELP CANADA AND IT ONLY HURTS

AMERICAN WORKERS.

THE PRESIDENT IS WORKING TO FIX

THE BROKEN SYSTEM AND HE'S GOING

TO CONTINUE PUSHING FOR THAT.

>> Reporter: ALSO AT THE WHITE

HOUSE TODAY FORMER PRIME

MINISTER STEPHEN HARPER SPOTTED

LEAVING THE WEST WING AFTER HIS

PRIVATE MEETING WITH SENIOR

TRUMP OFFICIALS.

NO WORD ON WHAT WAS DISCUSSED.

CANADIANS AND AMERICANS ARE BOTH

WELCOMING A NEW PLAYER TO THE

TRADE TABLE.

MEXICO JUST ELECTED LEFT-LEANING

PRESIDENT ANDRES MANUEL LOPEZ

OBRADOR.

THE ONE-TIME NAFTA SKEPTIC NOW

SAYS THAT HE DOES WANT TO SIGN A

NEW DEAL, BUT JUST WHAT DOES HE

HAVE IN MIND?

>> HE'S A SELF-DESCRIBED

NATIONALIST SO I THINK THAT HE

ALSO WILL NOT HESITATE TO PUSH

BACK ON THE UNITED STATES

WHEN THE U.S. DEMANDS DO NOT

ALIGN WITH HIS INTERESTS.

>> Reporter: FOR ALL OF THE

TALK ABOUT THE FUTURE OF TRADE,

RIGHT NOW THERE ARE NO ACTIVE

NAFTA NEGOTIATIONS, MEANING THAT

THIS TARIFF TENSION COULD LAST A

WHILE.

CATHERINE CULLEN, CBC NEWS,

OTTAWA.

>> Ian: LET'S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK

AT THE NEW PRESIDENT OF MEXICO

THAT CATHERINE JUST MENTIONED

AND THE KIND OF RELATIONSHIP

THAT HE MIGHT HAVE WITH HIS

AMERICAN COUNTERPART.

AS PAUL HUNTER REPORTS, HE'S HAD

SOME CHOICE WORDS FOR DONALD

TRUMP IN THE PAST.

[Cheers and Applause]

(*)

>> Reporter: WHEN ANDRES

MANUEL LOPEZ OBRADOR SET HIS

SIGHTS ON THE MEXICAN PRESIDENCY

HE KNEW FULL WELL THE VALUE IN

MEXICO OF TAKING ON DONALD

TRUMP.

AFTER ALL, AS TRUMP STILL

REGULARLY REMINDS MEXICO...

>> President Donald Trump:

THEY'RE GOING TO PAY FOR THE

WALL AND THEY'RE GOING TO ENJOY

IT, OKAY?

>> Reporter: SO THOUGH HE WON

LAST NIGHT'S ELECTION WITH A

CAMPAIGN FOCUSED ON CORRUPTION

AND VIOLENCE IN MEXICO, IT'S THE

VIEWS OF THE PRESIDENT-ELECT ON

TRUMP THAT TONIGHT HAVE THE U.S.

BUZZING.

IN HIS BOOK "OYE,TRUMP" OR

"LISTEN UP, TRUMP" PUBLISHED

LAST YEAR, LÓPEZ OBRADOR LISTS

OFF HOW HE HAS DESCRIBED TRUMP

IN THE PAST, ONCE LIKENING HIM

TO HITLER IN THE DAYS BEFORE THE

HOLOCAUST.

ANOTHER TIME LABELLING TRUMP

"ERRATIC AND

ARROGANT."

AND ABOUT THAT BORDER WALL SAYS

LOPEZ OBRADOR IT GOES AGAINST

HUMANITY, INTELLIGENCE AND

HISTORY.

>> President Donald Trump: AND

I WILL SAY THAT I JUST SPOKE

WITH THE PRESIDENT-ELECT OF

MEXICO.

WE HAD A GREAT CONVERSATION...

>> Reporter: AFTER A HALF-HOUR

PHONE CALL BETWEEN THE TWO THIS

MORNING DESCRIBED AS

"RESPECTFUL," TRUMP SAID THAT HE

THINKS THAT THE RELATIONSHIP

WILL BE A VERY GOOD ONE.

ADDING, WITHOUT EXPLANATION...

>> President Donald Trump: I

THINK THAT HE'LL TRY AND HELP US

WITH THE BORDER.

>> Reporter: SOME HAVE LIKENED

THE TWO, BECAUSE LIKE TRUMP

LÓPEZ OBRADOR, IS A POPULIST, AN

OUTSIDER WHO RAN AGAINST

POLITICS AS USUAL.

IN EFFECT, PLEDGING TO PUT

MEXICO FIRST.

BUT HIS VIEWS ARE SOCIALIST.

HE'S PRO-MIGRANT RIGHTS.

AND AS HE PUT IT, HE'LL NEVER BE

THE PINATA OF ANY FOREIGN

GOVERNMENT.

LAST NIGHT HE PLEDGED TO WORK

WITH THE U.S. BUT WITH A KIND OF

CAVEAT.

IT'S A RELATIONSHIP, HE SAID,

ROOTED IN MUTUAL RESPECT AND A

DEFENCE OF THE IMMIGRANTS WHO

LIVE AND WORK IN THAT COUNTRY.

ONE QUESTION FOR WHERE DOES THIS

ALL GO FROM HERE -- WILL THE

PRESIDENT-ELECT DO WHAT THE

OUTGOING MEXICAN PRESIDENT CHOSE

NOT TO -- TO COME VISIT THIS

PLACE, SIT DOWN WITH DONALD

TRUMP, AND TALK ABOUT THAT

BORDER?

PAUL HUNTER, CBC NEWS,

WASHINGTON.

>> Ian: WE'RE WATCHING SOME

OTHER DEVELOPING STORIES OUT OF

WASHINGTON TONIGHT... THE WHITE

HOUSE SAYS THAT SECRETARY OF

STATE MIKE POMPEO WILL LEAVE

THURSDAY FOR HIS THIRD VISIT TO

NORTH KOREA.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT FOLLOWS A

REPORT IN "THE WALL STREET

JOURNAL" THAT NORTH KOREA HAS

BEEN EXPANDING A FACILITY THAT

BUILDS BALLISTIC MISSILES.

>> WE ARE NOT GOING TO CONFIRM

OR

DENY ANY INTELLIGENCE REPORTS.

WHAT I CAN TELL YOU IS THAT

WE'RE CONTINUING TO MAKE

PROGRESS.

>> Ian: SANDERS SAID THAT U.S.

AND NORTH KOREAN OFFICIALS MET

THIS WEEKEND IN THE

DEMILITARIZED ZONE.

DETAILS OF POMPEO'S TRIP ARE

STILL TO COME.

>>> MICHAEL COHEN, THE

PRESIDENT'S LONG-TIME LAWYER AND

FIXER, IS NOW THE SUBJECT OF

INTENSE SPECULATION.

TODAY GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS

BEGAN DROPPING DETAILS OF AN

OFF-CAMERA INTERVIEW THIS

WEEKEND IN WHICH COHEN

REPORTEDLY SAID THAT HE PUTS

FAMILY AND COUNTRY AHEAD OF HIS

LOYALTY TO THE PRESIDENT.

SOME CALL IT A SIGNAL THAT COHEN

IS READY TO MAKE A DEAL WITH THE

MUELLER INVESTIGATION.

>> WE'RE HERE TODAY TO ANNOUNCE

THE ARREST OF DEMETRIUS

NATHANIEL PITTS ALSO KNOWN AS

RADORE...

>> Ian: THAT F.B.I. ARREST WAS

IN CONNECTION WITH WHAT IS

RESPONDED AS A TERROR ATTACK

PLANNED FOR CLEVELAND'S FOURTH

OF JULY PARADE.

THE AMERICAN CITIZEN THOUGHT

THAT HE WAS PLOTTING WITH AL

QAEDA.

HE DIDN'T KNOW THAT THE

OPERATIVE THAT HE WAS DEALING

WITH WAS

ACTUALLY AN UNDERCOVER AGENT.

PITTS CAME UNDER SURVEILLANCE IN

2017 AFTER EXPRESSING HATRED FOR

THE UNITED STATES AND A DESIRE

TO JOIN AL QAEDA ON SOCIAL

MEDIA.

>>> AHEAD TONIGHT ON "THE

NATIONAL," IT'S A FIRST OF ITS

KIND IN CANADA, A HOSPICE FOR

THE

HOMELESS.

YOU WILL MEET THE DOCTOR

FIGHTING TO BRING COMFORT TO

PEOPLE LIVING ON THE STREET IN

THEIR DIES DAYS.

>>> AND WHY TESTING YOUR FOOD

FOR DANGEROUS BACTERIA COULD

SOON BE AS EASY AS PULLING OUT

YOUR SMARTPHONE.

>>> AND A LITTLE LATER, HE SAYS

THAT IT'S A DREAM COME TRUE.

YOU'LL HEAR FROM THE FIRST

JAMAICAN-BORN PLAYER DRAFTED TO

THE NHL AND THE CANADIAN FAMILY

WHO ADOPTED HIM.

>> WHEN YOU REALIZE WHERE HE

CAME FROM AND THE LOSS THAT HE

EXPERIENCED IN HIS LIFE AND

EARLY CHILDHOOD, TO GO FROM THAT

TO THIS MOMENT, IT'S KIND OF

LIKE, WOW!

(*)

>> Ian: EACH SUMMER AS MANY OF

US

FIRE UP THE BARBECUE AND WE'RE

REMINDED TO COOK MEATS FULLY OR

TO GET SICK FROM TOXIC BACTERIA.

NOW A GROUP OF SCIENTISTS AT

McMASTER UNIVERSITY IS

DEVELOPING AN EASY WAY TO KNOW

IF MEAT IS

CONTAMINATED BEFORE YOU THROW IT

ON THE GRILL.

RON CHARLES WENT TO THEIR LAB IN

HAMILTON TO CHECK IT OUT.

>> Reporter: HANIE YOUSEFI IS

A GRADUATE STUDENT IN

ENGINEERING BUT LATELY SHE'S

BEEN HANDLING A LOT OF GROUND

BEEF AT THIS LAB AT McMASTER

UNIVERSITY.

NOT TO MAKE BURGERS, BUT TO TEST

A QUICK METHOD FOR DETERMINING

IF THE MEAT IS

CONTAMINATED WITH A POTENTIALLY

DEADLY E-COLI BACTERIA.

>> I WANTED TO PERFORM AN

IMPACTFUL RESEARCH, SOMETHING

THAT CAN HELP PEOPLE'S LIFE AND

SOMETHING THAT CAN IMPROVE

SOMEONE FROM GETTING SICK OR

LOSING A FAMILY MEMBER.

>> Reporter: TO DO THAT THE

RESEARCH TEAM SHE'S ON HAS

DEVELOPED A DETECTOR PATCH THAT

CHANGES COLOUR UNDER ULTRAVIOLET

LIGHT WHEN IT COMES INTO CONTACT

WITH CONTAMINATED MEAT.

>> AND THEY ATTACH IT AND IT

STAYS THERE.

>> Reporter: YOUSEFI'S

PROFESSOR TOHID DIDAR SAYS THAT

THE SIMPLE-LOOKING PATCH WHICH

HE CALLS "SENTINAL WRAP" HAS A

LOT OF POTENTIAL.

>> THIS IS A TINY, THIN FLEXIBLE

PLASTIC PATCH.

THIS COULD BE THE WRAP

THAT YOU WRAP AROUND YOUR MEAT

SAMPLE, FOR EXAMPLE.

>> Reporter: THE TINY THIN

PATCH IS MADE BY THE

SOPHISTICATED JET PRINTER THAT

LAYS ON A FEW MOLECULES OF

D.N.A. THAT REACTS SPECIFICALLY

TO E-COLI BY LUMINESCING IN

ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT.

THE D.N.A. ITSELF DOES NOT

CONTAMINATE THE FOOD.

OTHER D.N.A. MOLECULES COULD

REACT TO OTHER PATHOGENS.

>> WE ARE WORKING HARD TO EXPAND

THE REPERTOIRE OF THE DETECTION

THAT IT CAN MAKE TO INCLUDE

OTHER BACTERIAS LIKE SALMONELLA

AND LISTERIA.

>> Reporter: RIGHT NOW

DETERMINING IF FOOD IS

CONTAMINATED WITH E-COLI

INVOLVES SENDING SAMPLES TO A

LAB THAT CAN ANALYSE THEM.

>> WE NEED TO TAKE THE PATCH AND

JUST OPEN IT AND PROCESS IT AND

TAKE IT TO A LAB.

EITHER CULTURE THAT SAMPLE OR

TRY TO DO DIFFERENT

LABORATORY-BASED EXPERIMENTS TO

FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON.

OUR GOAL IS TO AVOID THAT SO YOU

CAN GET REAL-TIME INFORMATION.

>> Reporter: THEIR HOPE IS

THAT EVENTUALLY ONE DAY FOOD

DISTRIBUTORS, GROCERS AND EVEN

SHOPPERS COULD USE A SMARTPHONE

CAMERA AND AN APP TO SEE IF A

PATCH HAS CHANGED COLOUR AND TO

GIVING HOMELESS PEOPLE A HOME IN

THEIR DYING DAYS.

"THE NATIONAL" DOCUMENTARY TAKES

YOU INSIDE OF A GROUNDBREAKING

HOSPICE.

>> IT'S CLEAR THAT WE LIVE

DIFFERENT LIE DURING OUR LIFE

BUT SHOULD WE REALLY DIE

DIFFERENTLY?

IF WE REALLY CAN'T GET WHAT A

HUMAN LIFE IS WORTH AT THE END

OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE THE

(*)

>> Ian: EVERY NIGHT IN THE

COUNTRY'S BIGGEST CITY MORE THAN

5,000 PEOPLE SLEEP ON THE

STREET.

THEY FACE HARDSHIP THAT WEARS

DOWN THEIR HEALTH AND CUTS THEIR

LIVES SHORT.

WHEN DEATH COMES FOR THE

HOMELESS, THE COMFORTS OF HOME

ARE MORE DISTANT THAN EVER.

TONIGHT OUR "NATIONAL"

DOCUMENTARY TAKES A RAW LOOK AT

THEIR PLIGHT AS WELL AS THE

GROUNDBREAKING EFFORTS TO GIVE

THEM A PLACE TO DIE IN PEACE SO

THEIR FINAL JOURNEY CAN BE A

JOURNEY HOME.

(*)

>> TORONTO IS A VERY INTERESTING

PLACE.

I MEAN, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL CITY.

YOU HAVE THE C.N. TOWER.

YOU HAVE GREAT VIEWS.

YOU HAVE A HARBOUR FRONT.

BUT WHAT PEOPLE DON'T VISIBLY

SEE IS THAT THERE'S THIS WHOLE

POPULATION IN OUR CITY THAT IS

JUST FALLING THROUGH THE CRACKS.

(*)

>> DO YOU WANT TO SIT HERE?

>> IT'S HARD ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH

HAVING A SERIOUS ILLNESS AND

IT'S HARD ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH

HAVING A TERMINAL DIAGNOSIS AND

THEN TO SEE PEOPLE DEALING WITH

THAT ON THE STREET ON TOP OF IT

ALL, I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT THAT

LIFE IS LIKE.

CAESAR, ARE YOU HAVING ANY

NAUSEA OR VOMITING?

>> I USUALLY DON'T EAT?

>> SO YOU'RE EATING A LOT LESS

YOU MEAN?

>> A LOT LESS.

>> SO YOU'RE EATING...

>> CLIENTS COME TO US IN

DIFFERENT WAYS AND THROUGH

DIFFERENT PATHWAYS AND BEFORE

YOU EVEN ENTER A PERSON'S SPACE

AND THAT PLACE COULD BE A STREET

OR A SHELTER, BUT IT'S THEIR

SPACE, IS TO RECOGNIZE THE

TRAUMA.

THE TRAUMA THAT THE PEOPLE WE'RE

SERVING HAVE EXPERIENCED IN

BEING ON THE STREET, AND BEING

ILL.

WHERE WAS THE PAIN THAT YOU WERE

FEELING?

AND SO DO YOU WAKE UP WITH THAT

PAIN EVERY DAY?

OH, WOW.

IT'S ABOUT BUILDING REPOIRE AND

TRUST.

EXACTLY.

YOU HAVE ALSO TOLD US THAT YOU

DON'T WANT C.P.R. IF YOUR HEART

STOPS?

>> YEAH, YEAH.

>> YOU WANT TO PASS AWAY

PEACEFULLY?

>> YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I WANT.

>> I AM INSPIRED BY THE

POPULATION THAT WE SERVE EACH

AND EVERY DAY.

THEY INSPIRE ME TO DO WHAT I'M

DOING.

IF THEY CAN DO WHAT THEY'RE

DEALING WITH WITH THE RESILIENCE

AND

COURAGE AND DO IT WHILE THEY'RE

ON THE STREET AND DEALING WITH A

TERMINAL DIAGNOSIS, THEN WE CAN

DO BETTER.

OKAY, TAKE CARE.

BYE, MY FRIEND.

(*)

>> IF YOU HAD THE CHOICE WHERE

WOULD YOU WANT TO DIE?

90% OF CANADIANS SAY THEY WANT

TO DIE AT HOME.

OUR EXPERIENCE IS THAT THE

HOMELESS SAY THE SAME THING.

I WANT TO DIE AT HOME.

BUT OVER 70% OF HOMELESS PEOPLE

IN A COUNTRY LIKE CANADA END UP

DYING IN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENTS

AND ACUTE MEDICAL WARDS OR

TRANSITIONAL SPACES, LIKE A PARK

BENCH, FOR EXAMPLE.

>> I WENT TO A CONFERENCE AND I

HEARD NAHEED SPEAKING OF THIS

ISSUE OF HOMELESSNESS AND THE

ISSUE OF PALLIATIVE CARE AND A

SHORTENED LIFE SPAN.

AND THE CARE THAT THEY NEEDED

AND WERE GETTING OR NOT GETTING

ON THE STREET AND WHAT WAS

HAPPENING.

SO AFTER HE CAME DOWN OFF THE

STAGE I JUST WENT OVER AND

INTRODUCED MYSELF.

AND I SAID, YOU KNOW, NAHEED, WE

NEED TO WORK TOGETHER ON THIS

AND WE NEED TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

>> OKAY, SO THIS IS GOING TO BE

THE KITCHEN AREA.

IT'S A BIT SMALL SO WE'LL JUST

HAVE THE COUNTERTOPS ON THE LEFT

SIDE.

>> HERE WE ARE, NOT EVEN A YEAR

AND A HALF LATER, AND THIS IS

THE VERY BEGINNING OF OUR FOUR

BED RESIDENTIAL HOSPICE FOR THE

HOMELESS POPULATION.

>> WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE AND

WASHROOMS...

>> THE QUESTION IS, WHERE DO

PEOPLE WHO DON'T HAVE A HOME GO

TO DIE?

THEY'RE DYING IN ALLEYS AND ON

STREETS AND UNDER BRIDGES AND

IT'S A VERY SAD THING.

THIS WILL BE THEIR HOME.

AND THE SAME THING HERE IN TERMS

OF THE HOSPITAL BED AND A NICE

LOUNGE CHAIR SO THAT GUESTS CAN

STAY OVERNIGHT OR FRIENDS.

>> ABSOLUTELY, YEP.

>> I'D LIKE TO HAVE THAT HERE.

WHEN THIS PLACE OPENS I HOPE

THAT IT WILL BE A WARM,

SUPPORTIVE SAFE ENVIRONMENT.

THEIR FAMILIES WILL BE WELCOME,

THEIR STREET FAMILIES ARE

WELCOME HERE, AND IT WILL BE A

REALLY UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT.

IT WILL BE A GREAT SPACE FOR

THEM.

AND ONE THAT I HOPE THEY CAN

CALL THEIR OWN.

PERFECT LOCATION.

THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE PEOPLE

WILL BE COMING TO DIE WITH

DIGNITY.

(*)

(*)

>> AS YOU KNOW WE'RE STARTING

THIS NEW PROJECT, IT'S CALLED

"JOURNEY HOME HOSPICE" AND GIVEN

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOU WE'D

LOVE TO OFFER YOU A SPOT TO KIND

OF

GET THE SUPPORT THAT YOU NEED.

BASICALLY NEXT WEEK.

YEAH?

>> IT'S BEEN REALLY DIFFICULT TO

HAVE PEOPLE...

>> YEAH.

PANDORA IS IN A VERY DIFFICULT

SCENARIO BECAUSE SHE'S DEALING

WITH A DIFFICULT HEART

DISEASE ISSUE, A VEGETATION.

AND, UNFORTUNATELY, THE

TREATMENT THAT SHE WOULD NEED IS

SHE IS

NOT DEEMED A CANDIDATE FOR.

YOU HAD A QUESTION OF WHETHER WE

CAN HAVE OXYGEN THERE AND, YEAH,

WE CAN ABSOLUTELY SUPPORT HAVING

OXYGEN FOR YOU.

SO YOU CAN BREATHE BETTER,

RIGHT?

SHE'S AT THE SHELTER WHERE SHE

CAN'T HAVE OXYGEN DUE TO VARIOUS

RULES.

SHE'S BREATHLESS.

HER OXYGEN SATURATION

DROPS WHEN SHE WALKS A FEW

STEPS.

SHE HAS PAIN AND YET TIME KEEPS

TICKING AND HER QUALITY OF LIFE

SUFFERS.

>> I FEEL LIKE I'M DYING.

>> BEING HOMELESS OFTENTIMES

YOU'RE UNSEEN.

I FOUND THAT THE WAY TO AVOID

CONFRONTATION WITH MY FATHER

WOULD BE TO COME HOME AT 3:00

a.m. WHEN HE'D BE TOO TIRED TO

FIGHT WITH ME AND HE'D HAVE TO

GO TO WORK AND I'D THEN SLEEP IN

UNTIL NOON AND I CONTINUE OFF

WITH MY WAY OF BEING A

DELINQUENT, RIGHT, AND DOING AS

I SAW FIT.

ONE NIGHT MY BOYFRIEND REALLY

HAD URGED ME TO GO HOME AND I

DIDN'T LISTEN TO HIM.

AND I FOUND SOME GUYS THAT WERE

DRINKING IN THE PARK AND I GOT

TOO DRUNK.

AND I ENDED UP BEING DATE RAPED.

AND AFTER IT WAS ALL SAID AND

DONE I REALISED THAT I DIDN'T

HAVE MY KEYS ANYMORE.

IN ORDER TO GAIN ACCESS TO MY

HOME I HAVE TO FACE MY DAD.

AND THAT WOULD BE REALLY, REALLY

HEARTBREAKING FOR MY FATHER.

AND SO I KNEW THAT THERE WAS NO

WAY I COULD STAND THERE AND LOOK

HIM IN THE EYE AND GET YELLED AT

FOR BEING A SCREW-UP AND A

STUPID KID.

AND IN THAT MOMENT I CONSIDERED

MYSELF HOMELESS.

>> HI, VERY NICE TO MEET YOU.

THANK YOU FOR COMING.

GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE.

I'D LIKE TO TAKE THIS MOMENT TO

THANK YOU ALL FOR JOINING US.

IT'S SO GREAT ON TO SEE SO MANY

PEOPLE HERE IN SUPPORT.

>> SO I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER.

COMPARED TO WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE

TWO MONTHS AGO I THINK THAT IT'S

A PHENOMENAL AMOUNT OF WORK

THAT'S BEEN DONE.

>> WE'RE SITTING IN PANDORA'S

FUTURE ROOM, ACTUALLY.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHERE SHE'S

GOING TO COME AND SHE'LL SLEEP

THERE.

WHILE OUR FOCUS HERE IS GOOD

PALLIATIVE CARE AND PALLIATIVE

APPROACH TO CARE, THERE'S

POTENTIAL THAT SOMEONE LIKE

PANDORA COULD ACTUALLY THRIVE IN

AN ENVIRONMENT LIKE THIS AND DO

BETTER AND MAY ACTUALLY LIVE

LONGER AS A RESULT OF THE CARE.

(*)

>> WE'RE GATHERED TODAY AS THOSE

WHO HAVE SHARED THE JOURNEY WITH

PANDORA AS THE CARE TEAM.

>> WHEN I HEARD THAT PANDORA HAD

PASSED I THINK THAT I FELT MIXED

EMOTIONS.

WHEN SHE MOVED IN HER EYES LIT

UP.

SHE WAS BRIGHT, SHE WAS HOME.

SHE EVEN SAID THAT TO US.

IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL KIND OF -- IT

WAS LIKE

A HOMECOMING FOR HER.

IT WAS SURREAL TO SEE HOW

SOMEONE WAS DEALING WITH SO MUCH

TRAUMA AND SADNESS AND ANGER AND

FRUSTRATION -- DON'T GET ME

WRONG, THAT WAS STILL THERE --

BUT WHEN SHE SAW HER ROOM SHE

LIT UP.

LIKE SHE HAD JOURNEYED HOME.

(*)

HOW ARE YOU DOING?

>> HARD TO SLEEP.

>> I'M SO SORRY.

>> I THINK ABOUT THE WORLD THAT

WE LIVE IN AND I THINK ABOUT THE

WORLD THAT I DREAM OF FOR MY

FUTURE KIDS, OUR FUTURE

GENERATION, AND I THINK THAT IT

SHOULD BE A WORLD WHERE WE CARE

ABOUT EACH OTHER.

YOU HAVE DONE SO AMAZING, YOU

KNOW THAT, RIGHT?

SO RESILIENT.

IT'S CLEAR THAT WE LIVE

DIFFERENTLY DURING OUR LIFE BUT

SHOULD WE REALLY DIE DIFFERENTLY

AND IF WE REALLY CAN'T GET WHAT

A

HUMAN LIFE IS WORTH AT THE END

OF LIFE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE THE

MOST VULNERABLE AND THE MOST

MARGINALIZED, I DON'T KNOW WHAT

WE'RE DOING.

BUT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THERE'S

A COMMUNITY, THERE'S COMPASSION,

PEOPLE DO CARE AND OPENING A

JOURNEY HOME HOSPICE IS A

TESTAMENT TO THAT.

Liverpool ace Mo Salah snubbed Real Madrid & Barcelona for three reasons ● News Now transfer ● #LFC - Duration: 2:28.

LIVERPOOL star Mohamed Salah had three reasons for rejecting Real Madrid and Barcelona to

sign a new Reds contract.

Liverpool star Salah was linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona in the wake of the Reds'

3-1 Champions League final defeat to Los Blancos in May.

However, the Egypt international has now penned a new Anfield contract that will tie him to

the club until 2023.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp lauded Salah's decision to rebuff the La Liga duo, saying:

"I think this news can be seen for what it is; rewarding a person who performed and

contributed greatly for the team and the club last season.

"It demonstrates two things very clearly also - his belief in Liverpool and our belief

in him.

"We want world-class talent to see they have a home at Anfield where they can fulfil

all their professional dreams and ambitions - we are working hard together to achieve

this.

"When someone like Mo Salah commits and says this place is my home now, it speaks

very loudly I think."

And the Liverpool Echo have now delved into why the 25-year-old has chosen to stay put.

It is claimed Salah's family are settled on Merseyside and, having only left Roma last

term, he didn't want to put them through the ordeal of relocating once again.

The player also has a good relationship with Liverpool fans.

Reds supporters adore their No 11 who blitzed 44 goals for the club during his first season.

Salah also made Liverpool fans forget all about Philippe Coutinho, who left back in

January.

The Liverpool Echo suggest a third reason the Egypt international chose to stay put

was Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp was the one who gambled by signing the player, who toiled at Chelsea during a previous

stint in England, last summer.

And the Liverpool boss has since turned Salah into one of the best forwards on the planet.

Best Sweet Fragrances For Hot Days - Duration: 6:08.

loving these glasses more on these later welcome to the channel where fashion

meets fragrance my name is Karen Saylor's and today's video we talk about

summertime sweetness how I love sweet fragrances in the exceptional high heat

if you like these kind of videos cool go ahead subscribe to my channel then turn

notification cannot beat your video and laugh to my big show you boys some love

ya man should I put remise did his thing on these glasses plan I don't want to

make it in time video in them so we're gonna switch out there you go more back

to normal summertime is the town where a lot of people just say I can't wear

sweet fragrances when it gets to be exceptionally hot outside I don't want

to choke people to be overly Chloe or something like this so I'm afraid to

wear my sweeter fragrances I'm gonna tell you guys that's not necessarily the

best thing you can actually sweet fragrances in the summertime it just has

to be the right ones we want the right way in particular you need to look with

things that are not overly be smooth number two you need to apply them to

open areas on your body number three watch the trigger and before allow them

to cook and fragrance actually cuts on your skin number five blend when

appropriate what I mean by blend where appropriate

something like this Chanel beige which a lot of you guys might think it's a very

feminine fragrance because it has honey Hawthorne and freesia

but it smells incredible on male skin blends exceptionally well with Chanel

boy or Jersey put this on as a base let it cook let's do his thing and then

apply this in the evening time beautiful combination

similar thought goes along with wata Erin and amber nuit

even Dior says this is one fragrance that can be blended and used with other

fragrances you guys know this is a masterpiece in my opinion on its own

standalone great but in the summertime with bois de aragón as a base makes for

an incredible combination in the high heat Frances Kirk John has even done our

work for us he has the summer lights collection boutique my time for the

daytime it's more for the nighttime you guys

know this is an eau de pomme pomme so is this where this during the high heat

where this during the evening and these two things actually blend exceptionally

well together or can be worn separately are you noticing the theme here light

juice dark juice daytime nighttime both sweet

works well what about if you don't want to blend got you covered

history to perfume amber one one for great amber for the high heat it doesn't

have that deepness like amber absolute oh that kind of incense thing a lot of

Amber's have great fragrance for the high heat exceptionally well on your

skin cook so well smells so good especially when it catches the wind

underrated in my opinion but it's going to be a part of my amber series review

have a wash inflection man we already know a lot about this compliment monster

but again it is another one that plays exceptionally well and the high heat

this is a summertime evening outdoors staple for me because when this thing

catches the wind especially 80 plus degrees it just captivates folks around

you it is a conversation starter compliments to and even if you by

yourself it smells incredible on your skin sitting out on the patio having a

nice summer evening I'm a large reflection man a summertime sweetie that

guys just need to wear more of next up we have Yves Saint Laurent Compton

incense benzyl and good together again have you seen the similarities light

dark this can actually be one outdoor or indoor be careful on the trigger on this

and though because initially out of the bottle you you got to get this a huge

blast but it sells down so well why are so captain this entire line does not get

a little talk tuxedo has taken the bag this one oh my goodness this one and

Caban is great I love tuxedo captain come on incredible fragrances especially

for the summertime can't beat it the next two are gonna be fantastic

Caroline spirituous double vanilla oh my god probably one of the best

vanilla fragrances upon the planet and great for a warmer weather traditionally

we don't think of vanilla is one where the fragrances but this one because it's

so subtle so well done so well crafted so well blended smells incredible honey

woman walk on a man and it takes on a different scent profile for both people

this one is extremely special the people who own it know it is a masterpiece for

good reason rock this during the warm days and nights and thank me later

and last but not least I give you what I think is the best vanilla for the high

heat Conor Barcelona elbow shout out to my friends over at Beverly Hills

perfumery I'll leave a link down the description where you can actually pick

this one up guys I don't know a lot of guys tend to stay away from Pinellas

because you think they're like overly feminine not this one this is a smoky

vanilla smoky vanilla who thought of smoky

pineapples would do a good job a smoky vanilla is even better heavenly heavenly

heavenly heavenly ice I don't think there are no word to do this thing just

ins you have to actually smell it you have to put it on your skin and let it

Ocasio-Cortez shreds conservative TV host for sharing picture of her childhood home - Duration: 3:17.

Ocasio-Cortez shreds conservative TV host for sharing picture of her childhood home

New York Democratic congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tore into a conservative TV host who tweeted a picture of her childhood home in an attempt to discredit her.

John Cardillo, a host of Newsmax's "America Talks Live," shared a picture of Ocasio-Cortez's childhood home in Yorktown Heights, claiming she lived there until she went to attend Brown University.

"This is the Yorktown Heights (very nice area) home @Ocasio2018 grew up in before going off to Ivy League Brown University," Cardillo tweeted.

"A far cry from the Bronx hood upbringing she's selling.".

Ocasio-Cortez actually went to Boston University.

She lived in the Bronx's Parkchester apartments before moving to Yorktown Heights at age 5 to attend a better public school than what was available in the Bronx at that time, according to her campaign website.

The self-proclaimed democratic socialist is running as a Democrat in New York's 14th Congressional District, which encompasses the Bronx and Queens, after defeating incumbent Rep.

Joseph Crowley (D) in a stunning primary earlier this month.

Ocasio-Cortez fired back at Cardillo Sunday afternoon, saying she did not attend Brown University or any other Ivy League school.

"I went to [Boston University]," Ocasio-Cortez said.

"Try Google.".

"My mom scrubbed toilets so I could live here & I grew up seeing how the zip code one is born in determines much of their opportunity," Ocasio-Cortez wrote, noting that she grew up partially in a working-class neighborhood.

She also tore in Cardillo's attempt to discredit her.

"Your attempt to strip me of my family, my story, my home, and my identity is exemplary of how scared you are of the power of all four of those things," Ocasio-Cortez shot back.

Cardillo later tweeted a clarification after noting he had misidentified her alma mater.

For Some Gang Members In El Salvador, The Evangelical Church Offers A Way Out - Duration: 10:31.

For Some Gang Members In El Salvador, The Evangelical Church Offers A Way Out

In El Salvador's capital, San Salvador, people drive around with their car windows closed to avoid petty theft.

But when they enter neighborhoods controlled by gangs, they keep their car windows open, to show their faces.

That way the gangs know they're not an enemy.

In the center of one such neighborhood, known as La Dina, a tiny Baptist church sits on a narrow street.

In a neighborhood notorious for violence, it is the one place gangs leave alone.

The church underscores the growing ties between gangs in El Salvador and evangelical Christianity.

In a country where Roman Catholicism has traditionally predominated, evangelicalism is growing and has gained the respect and endorsement of gangs — a rare point of agreement even for rival groups like Barrio 18 and MS-13, the country's two biggest gangs.

It has also left many boys and men growing up in gang-controlled areas with stark choices: According to academic research and interviews with pastors and former gang members, their only alternative to joining a gang — or getting out of one — is to become a devoted member of an evangelical church.

Inside the Eben-ezer Baptist church, around 10 former gang members, easily identifiable by their head-to-toe tattoos, sing along and clap fervently to songs praising Jesus.

The church's newest member is 24-year-old José Rolando Arévalo.

He has a tattoo on his chin that confirms his former allegiance to the Barrio 18 gang, which he joined when he was 14, after his brother was killed by a rival gang.

He has been out of prison for just 10 days.

Like many former gang members, he embraced evangelical Christianity when a pastor approached him in jail.

"He started talking to me about my life.

About everything that had happened, in the gang and with my family," Arévalo says.

The pastor also started talking about God and how the evangelical church would embrace him.

Arévalo says his heart was touched.

For the first time, someone had talked to him about his life and the decisions he had made in a way that got through to him.

He has attended church three times since his release from prison and has left the gang.

During the service, a pastor talks about the gangs, known in El Salvador as pandillas.

He tells the congregation that in prison, God leaves one naked and opens the doors for new beginnings.

He says God is always faithful, even when others aren't.

He prays for gang members to leave behind a life of violence and join the church.

"The God we preach is one of opportunity," another pastor, the Rev.

Nelson Moz, who has led Eben-ezer for 21 years, says after the service.

"Our message is that [the gang members] should understand there is a life outside of the gang.

That they can make it, with the help of God.".

It is this emphasis on personal transformation that makes El Salvador's gang members embrace evangelicalism, says José Miguel Cruz, director of research at Florida International University's Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center, who has studied the relationship between the two.

In Cruz's research, more than half of the Salvadoran gang members he surveyed identify as evangelicals and attend church services an average of 15 times a month.

In contrast, just 17 percent of gang members identify as Catholic.

"They feel the evangelicals are more welcoming despite their criminal past.

And they feel embraced in these conversions by the [evangelical] church," he says.

This phenomenon has coincided with the growth of evangelical Christianity in El Salvador and other Latin American countries.

About half of Salvadorans identify as Roman Catholic and 40 percent as evangelical Christian.

Becoming a devoted member of an evangelical church at a young age is the only way many adolescent boys are able to avoid being roped into a gang, Cruz says.

And it's also the only way for them to get out of a gang if they're in it, short of leaving the country.

"You join the gang.

You join [the] evangelical church.

Or you leave El Salvador and you migrate," he says.

"So those are sort of the three options that young people in these communities controlled by criminal groups have.".

Gangs also feel protected to some extent by the evangelical churches, according to Carlos Martínez, a journalist who covers gangs for the Salvadoran news outlet El Faro.

The churches were founded in the same poor communities that gangs control.

"They are the community.

And they have learned to live alongside the gang members, who they have known since they were kids.

Because at the end of the day, it's their sons, husbands, boyfriends, parents and nephews," he says.

For Carlos Montano, a gang member for 22 years, joining the church was a matter of life and death.

Tattoos cover his face.

The number 18 is tattooed 18 times on his body, a reference to his past allegiance to the Barrio 18 gang.

During his years in the gang, he says, he kidnapped and robbed, and he raped women.

He was sentenced to prison for those crimes, and thanks to an evangelical pastor there, he found God.

That was nine months ago.

Now, he says, God knows about his past and has forgiven him.

If he had stayed active in the gang he would very likely have been killed, he says.

Now that's he is out, being a casual churchgoer isn't an option.

The gangs check up on former members to see how often they attend services and whether they are drinking or smoking on the side.

They want to make sure former members don't engage in criminal activity on the side that could ever pose a threat.

"I'm a Christian.

And the gang respects that," Montano says.

"But if I fail as a Christian, they will kill me.".

Football fans mock Neymar for his extravagant diving and writhing antics - Duration: 3:08.

Neymar may have scored for Brazil in their 2-0 victory over Mexico but it was his theatrics that got everyone talking during the last-16 World Cup clash

But football fans have flocked to social media to direct their anger and embarrassment towards the player for his theatrics, with Gary Lineker leading the charge

The former England international, now pundit, wrote on Twitter: 'Neymar has the lowest pain threshold of any player in World Cups since Opta stats began

' Another social media user, @Scienceofsport, posted a video of the incident, alongside the caption: 'Come on, man

How do you even show your face in public when acting like this?' However, the social media anger didn't stop there

Someone else amusingly claimed the Paris Saint-Germain star should have entered a 'Seal on Dry Land Imitation Contest'

The 26-year-old was compared to that 'little sibling that you barely touch and immediately falls on the floor and pretends to be dying'

Neymar will not be too bothered about the reaction as he helped Brazil progress to the World Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory over Mexico

The former Barcelona man opened the scoring in the 51st minute before Roberto Firmino added a second just before injury-time

ITV pundit Martin O'Neill took a cheeky jab at Neymar following the final whistle: 'His reaction is pathetic, absolutely pathetic

Mark (Clattenburg) is right it's a red card but the pain threshold of Neymar is incredibly low

'I wouldn't want to see him coming out of the doctors' surgery after getting a flu injection

' It also provoked a response from former Newcastle and England striker Alan Shearer

'It's absolutely pathetic,' Shearer said.'There's no doubting the ability of him.We saw it with the back heel, then the finish and then setting up for the second goal, he's a magnificent player

'But it really is pathetic when he is rolling around as if he is in agony. Why does he feel he needs to do that? 'I think I's been a magnificent tournament but the one downside has been seeing players feign injury and running to the referees and trying to get other players sent off

Top Tips for Reducing Your Plastic Use - Duration: 0:38.

These are my top three tips to avoid single-use plastic this month.

First of all, take the challenge.

Look in your bin and see what plastics are in your life that you can avoid.

Remember your reusables, so that's your coffee cups, your water bottles and your shopping

bags when you're out and about.

And the third tip for avoiding single-use plastic is looking to buy loose produce.

Avoid fruit and veggies that are packaged in plastic and invest in some great produce

bags or use brown paper bags and you'll quickly reduce a lot of your packaging by doing that.
