hello everyone its Shel C from PaperOcotilloStudio and today is the
first day of July and it is my turn to pick the sticks for the pick a stick
challenge which is a Facebook group that has one word prompts and we offer a art
journal page and in ATC each month with using random one-word prompts that you
can interpret in any way that you want and I mean any way that you want it's
it's not about a technique it's not about whatever it's just you just decide
what that word means to you and that's what you do on your page or your ATC so
I've rearranged my sticks I did used to have them in this big this big tin like
this and they were all stuffed in there and when I was having trouble with was
getting the used ones out so I was having to go through everything trying
to pick the ones from last month out so that we wouldn't reuse them because that
was one of the things we promised this year is not to reuse prompts sometimes
there are the same prompt into different categories however so we have seen a
little bit of that but we're really doing our best not to reuse prompts this
year because last year we had cat as a prompt like maybe three times during the
12 months so this is my little cheat sheet and what sticks I should pick what
colors I should pick and I've divided them using this little ghetto cardboard
thing that I think that I made so that when I go to pick pick out this month so
that you know I don't reuse them I can take the whole yellow and pick out the
things and then put the whole yellow back take the whole green it'll be a lot
easier anyway I know you don't really care about that but that's what I did so
I've got the blank sheets that I can write in these prompts as we go and I'm
gonna start with the art journal page one which has six prompts two wild cards
and two colors the wild cards are so that if there's one of these that you
don't like you can replace it with a wild card or you can use all eight if
you wants you it's up to you depends on how eventually sheer feeling the only
role of picky stick challenge is that you
to go in order of this six prompts and do all six of them so you can put
something before you can put something after you can put something something in
the middle as long as you do all these six prompts in order if you hate one you
can do a wild card or you can do all eight then as far as the colors I think
they're fun that's my favorite part of the whole challenge because when I
picked two colors randomly who knows you know well they go together will they not
can you make them go together can you add a third color that makes them look
good together so that's a big challenge for me because I'm very into color so
colors are optional if you don't want to use these colors or you only use one
that's fine we won't force you to do it but I suggest you do it because that's
the fun part in my opinion darn it so the first thing that I need I'm gonna
pick the colors first cuz that always excites me so I need how many I need -
okay one purple two purple so the colors for this month are green gold green gold
and am okay I actually have a paint called green gold so it's this is a deck
art media basically it's a light polish and it's a really great very versatile
color so I'm excited by that one so let's put that on there and then amber
is a warm orangish gold brownish orangish gold color so let's see if we
can find something that is amber I'm not sure trying to find that one actually is
amber so therefore it must be amber I'd say it's yellow let's get my little
see if we can't get someone back so what I'll be doing when I make the graphic is
I will be finding the hex codes or the codes you know the online codes for
these colors and putting those on there so that you'll have a good
representation okay the next thing that I need to do is draw the ones that go
here and I'm gonna put these in here too well no I'm gonna keep those out this is
my cup of glue stick but I figured I can use it for this too okay so I need one
shape that's yellow so let's get a shape is that right no I need one descriptive
let's get something from the middle I need oh yeah - what's interesting I
already do the colors I need two products one two
I need a technique technique okay and then I need two actions two actions
ready ok is that the right number one two three four five six seven eight nine
six seven eight nine ten yeah all right so whatever order they come out not
looking so you have tissue we have -
draw washi only beating washi tape if you don't have it you can make it
yourself abstract great and big weight one two three four
five six that's not right you should have should have one more
what did I do huh oh I need another orange okay and also
so these last two are big and embossed and then these two these six are the
ones that go there and I need to write them down real quick big big that's so
so whatever I mean you can you could use that in a million ways and then emboss
you could do pressure embossing or dibiase oh shoot I just got em out of
order huh don't do that and you could of course do do heat
embossing tissue - draw washing abstract great now great that could be a shape if
you want it to you or that could be an action like grading something like a
pencil into little flecks and then getting it wet or you know something
like that so you can also mean a cheese grater you could mean so many things
tissue could be tissue paper or you know tissue a wrapping paper or napkin
anything like that that you can make texture with - is a shape so that would
be like this but could it also it could also mean that you - to the store to get
some washi tape maybe you dashed off to the star to get
some washi tape drawers I'm I can't think of very many options for that one
washi tape is any type of printed or colored thin tape
could be a masking tape that you put some ink on or jelly printed or
something if you don't have specifically washi tape it's it's Japanese washi tape
yeah Japanese tissue tape is basically what Washington sometimes cultures you
take I thought I had some on the desk to show you but I don't
well I abstract that's kind of a technique you can make it abstract
instead of specific I think I've got everything pretty much that you
understand right of course peg and I will be making and
now I just need to draw color purple one that's amber and the the three steps and
wild card I don't need the other color or the artist trading card challenge so
you have drawn a glue stick big and
abstract and the wild card is - draw big
abstract hand okay so that's our challenge for the month I will be
putting the actual graphic in for you right after this so that you can see
what it is and you could print it off it'll also be in the folders in the
Facebook group if you're not in the Facebook group you can certainly go over
there and ask to join just make sure that you answer the questions that come
up or else we won't accept you because we want to make sure that everyone
that's in there is on board with what we're doing that's a challenge which is
no drama and just doing art and no selling or
like that just sharing the art that we do in relationship to the challenges so
that's it for me I hope you enjoy this month's challenge and that you use the
hashtag I forgot about that hashtag pick stick challenge oh seven
one eight that's July 2008 and then for the ATC its hashtag pick a stick
challenge ATC oh seven one eight if you when you
post your pictures on any social media like Instagram or something you can use
those hashtags or if you make a video you can use those touch tags and then
they're easy to find easy for us to find these and then um you also can post your
pictures in the Facebook group in the album that is assigned to these dates so
that everything is very organized that would be like alright that's it for me
bye bye
