Animals Kids Love: Elephants 101 Elephant Facts for Kids - Animal Facts - Duration: 6:34.
You're watching Animal Facts.
Kids love elephants.
And so do adults to be honest.
They are some pretty interesting animals.
But what facts do we know about these interesting Pachyderms?
Let's find out.
Let's get started, but before we start, make sure to hit that subscribe button and
click the bell icon to become part of our notification squad.
10.
The word Pachyderm is often used synonymously with Elephant.
But the word pachyderm doesn't necessarily mean elephant.
The word is defined as a very large mammal with thick skin, which can also be a rhinoceros
or hippopotamus.
The word derives from an obsolete order of mammals used in the 18th century called Pachydermata
which came from two Greek words Pachys, meaning thick, and derma, meaning skin.
Fitting as an elephant's skin can be over an inch thick.
9.
Elephants are the largest of the land mammals.
African elephants can weigh up to 14,000 pounds or 6,350 kilograms.
That's about the weight of three average sized cars.
Even baby elephants are big weighing in at about 250 pounds at birth.
The largest elephant on record was an adult male African elephant.
It weighed about 24,000 pounds 11,000 kilograms and was 13 feet tall at the shoulder, a meter
(or 3 feet) taller than the average male African Elephant!
Imagine an elephant they weigh as much as 6 cars!
8.
Not only is the elephant big, his brain is big, too.
The elephant's brain weighs about 11 pounds or 5kg.
Human brains only weigh about 3 pounds.
A wide variety of behaviors associated with intelligence have been attributed to elephants,
including those associated with grief, making music, art, altruism, play, use of tools,
compassion, and self-awareness.
Elephants cry, play, have incredible memories, and laugh.
The elephant has a big heart, too.
It weighs in between 27 and 46 pounds.
7.
While female elephants live mostly in tight-knit groups, male elephants, also called bulls,
tend to live solitary lives.
The social lives of male and female elephants are very different.
Female elephants spend their entire lives in tightly knit family groups made up of mothers,
daughters, sisters, and aunts.
These groups are led by the eldest female or matriarch.
They live in a highly structured social order.
Males leave their birth family at an average age of 14.
6.
Tusks are teeth.
The tusks of an elephant are its second upper incisors.
Tusks grow continuously; an adult male's tusks grow about 7 in or 18cm per year.
Tusks are used to dig for water, salt, and roots; to debark trees to eat the bark; to
dig into trees to get at the pulp inside, and to move trees and branches when clearing
a path.
In addition, they are used for marking trees to establish territory, and occasionally as
weapons.
One of the largest tusks ever found was about 10 feet long and weighed over 200 pounds.
5.
The elephant does everything big, but one thing the elephant can not do is jump.
The elephant is the only land mammal incapable of leaving the ground.
He also is unable to trot or gallop.
But, they can swim.
And, Elephants can use their trunks to breathe like a snorkel in deep water.
4.
The elephant's trunk is quite versatile.
It is sensitive enough to pick up a single blade of grass, yet strong enough to rip the
branches off a tree.
The trunk is also used for drinking.
Elephants suck water up into the trunk—up to 14 liters or almost 4 gallons at a time—and
then blow it into their mouths.
Elephants also suck up water to spray on their bodies during bathing.
On top of this watery coating, the animals will then spray dirt and mud, which dries
and acts as a sunscreen.
See told ya they were smart.
Use sunscreen kids.
3.
Elephants are herbivores, meaning they eat only plants, and spend up to 16 hours a day
eating plants.
They eat a lot of different types of plants.
Their diets are highly variable, depending on the season and what is available in the
region.
Elephants feed mostly on the leaves, bark, and fruits of trees and shrubs, but they may
also eat grasses and herbs.
2.
As well as hearing with their large ears, elephants use their feet to listen, they can
pick up sub-sonic rumblings made by other elephants, through vibrations in the ground.
Elephants are observed listening by putting trunks on the ground and carefully positioning
their feet.
An elephant is capable of hearing sound waves well below our human ears, all the way down
to 9 Hz, what we call infrasound.
The use of high-pressure infrasound opens the elephant's spatial experience far beyond
our limited hearing.
1.
Elephants are capable of producing very low notes, at what are called "infrasonic" frequencies
— that means the sounds they produce can actually extend below 20 hertz, the lowest
frequency detectable by the human ear.
And they do it by "purring" like cats but at a much lower frequency.
It regulates the speed at which its vocal folds vibrate by actively contracting its
laryngeal muscles, much in the same way that a cat purrs.
A 7-ton animal purring… how cute is that?

Life Perspective | THE KIND OF SWIMWEAR PLUS SIZE WOMEN SHOULD GO FOR! - Duration: 8:20.
THE KIND OF SWIMWEAR PLUS SIZE WOMEN SHOULD GO FOR!
#PlusSizeWomen are always seen to wear dresses that cover their entire body so that they
can hide their curves and bulges.
In this scenario, swim suits or bikini does not seem to match with the trend as that exposes
the body structure to a greater extent.
#OverSizedWomen also feels the excitement to wear swimming costumes and flaunt on the
beach with full confidence, but what forbids them to do so is the feeble mentality of few
people who would stare at them not to adore their grace but to laugh at their excesses.
Instead of completely avoiding to wear swimming costumes or #BikiniPlusSize women should go
for a different type of swimwears.
Here are some tips that will help all the over-weight women to chuck out a perfect swimsuit
for themselves.
Swimsuits Plus SizePeekaboo Swimsuit – The fat that gets accumulated in the belly of
all the #PlusSizeWomen is a matter of great concern as almost all the swimwear exposes
this portion of the body.
The peekaboo swimsuit will be a great move on the part for all the #PlusSizeWomen as
this will enable them to hide their bulgy stomach and expose only that much which is
preferable.
So, it is a big revolution for all those with a big tummy.
One-piece Swimsuit – The over-sized women can confidently select one-piece swimsuit
for them rather than those stringed ones.
As it helps to cover most of the chubs of the upper portion of their body.
This kind of swimwears adds a bold and sexy turn to your appearance.
Since, fat women are always suggested to avoid exaggerating prints and patterns this one-piece
swimsuit can turn out to be an exact replacement.
The Fatkini – #Fatkini is the ultimate choice for all the plus-size women who love to wear
swimsuits and bikini, it is different from the peekaboos but still manages to hide your
belly to a greater extent and if you have back boobies then this is the exact answer
that will go hand-in-hand with your body type as well as with the fashion trends.
Bright Colours – Avoid wearing bright colored swimsuits as that tends to highlight your
over all body structure.
For plus-size women it is always preferable to go for dimmed color swimwears since swimsuits
and bikini already brings a loud look to your appearance, the bright colors will just add
an extra element to it that would not sound as happening as you wished for.

Fall Prevention for Osteogenesis Imperfecta (O.I.) and Osteoporosis - Duration: 4:07.
do you have osteogenesis imperfecta also known as brittle bone disease or do you
know somebody that has it someone that you know and love
well guess what I've got it too, I've got type 1 and one main concern for us with O.I.
is the fact that if we fall we could break something so in this video I want
to talk about ways to prevent falling if you have osteogenesis imperfecta hey
[music]
Hey, what's going on I am Tony Jacobson I'm the author of disable your disability
I'm also a certified personal trainer and at the heart of it I'm a dude with a
disability who has learned how to embrace it to live a healthy high
powered happy life and now I'm here to help you do the same if you're new to my
channel please consider subscribing you're gonna see the button somewhere on
this page or on this video and if you are a returning subscriber thanks for
sticking with me so of course with osteogenesis imperfecta which is brittle
bones also with osteoporosis even or even if you just have more fragile bones
than a normal person right falling is a main concern if we fall we could break
how do we do it how do we prevent falling well here's three tips that I
want to give you on how you can work on fall prevention
so the first tip is to strengthen your muscles of course strengthening muscles is going to do two
things it's not only going to protect you if you have that outer shell of a
strong muscle around the bones that might be fragile but it's also going to
help if you are ambulatory if you are walking it's going to help you just in
walking to make sure you stay up straight to make sure you're taking each
and every step with some strength in your legs in your hips and in your back
so it's really those three areas that I want you to focus on when you're
strengthening legs hips and back of course in conjunction with this is
making sure that you're maintaining a good body weight because if you're
carrying a lot of body weight that could throw off your balance
and that's also where a lot of falls can happen
the next thing is to work on your balance speed and agility
and stay tuned because I have a bonus tip for you
there are specific exercises for working on balance working on speed
and working on agility all of these things need to be in your work out
regimen in the first tip I talked about getting stronger which is important to
get that muscle mass but we also need to have that balance speed and agility so
that our reaction is faster so if you are walking along if you do slip if you
do run into something you want to make sure you have the balance and agility to
be able to move to be able to react to that situation so that you don't fall
and the last tip is don't expect the fall
you know there's a lot of programs
out there that claim that their fall prevention when really they're just
teaching you how to get up from a fall or what to do after you've fallen well
what if we don't fall at all how about that that's right just expecting the
best knowing that we will not fall having this mentality and this thought
will definitely prevent you from falling
and here's your bonus tip
be conscious of every single movement so if you're walking or even if you use a wheelchair
you're concerned about falling from the chair or tipping over in the chair this
goes for everybody be conscious of every single movement if you are conscious and
really focused and aware through every single step that you take through every
single movement that you make throughout the day you will absolutely prevent
yourself from falling you're also going to prevent any sort of other injury that
could occur so be conscious and aware and focused on every movement you make
throughout the day look it might sound like a lot of work but it's completely
worth it and once you start doing it it just becomes second nature
I hope you enjoyed this video make sure you check out my website disable your disability.com
for more resources and remember to eat right get moving and get your mind
straight because with those three things working together you can and will live
the healthy high powered happy life you deserve I'll see you next time

Best 4K TV for a Computer Monitor! - Sony 43X720E - Duration: 4:21.
From a technical standpoint this Sony 4K TV is as good as it gets as a computer monitor
replacement.
It uses a glossy IPS panel for vibrate colors.
It supports 4K 4:4:4 chroma subsampling for clear legible text.
Input lag is pretty much unnoticeable with my mouse movements.
And the Screen Size, Resolution and PPI are pretty much perfect for my comfort.
But is 43 inches really practical to use day to day?
My short answer is yes.
For productivity purposes I'm really enjoying all the extra screen real estate with a big
screen.
But designed as a TV, the lack of displayport connections, the need to keep the remote close
by to turn on and off the display, and the non-adjustable stand are the main weaknesses
versus a dedicated PC monitor.
Hi I'm David and these are my thoughts on using a Sony 43" 4K TV as my computer monitor.
I've always been a big fan of 34 inch ultrawide monitors and was always a little hesitant
to upgrade to anything bigger.
But from a resolution, size and pixel per inch standpoint a 4K TV is pretty much the
same as an ultrawide plus some extra screen real estate on the top and bottom.
This means I can still use it like an ultrawide monitor for editing long video timelines.
And use the extra space for leaving other reference material on the screen for quick
access as needed.
And for coders who really like their tall portrait setups to display a lot of lines
of code.
The vertical size and resolution of this 4K TV is almost like having a built in portrait
display.
If you want to kick back and just watch some videos, you really can't beat having a large
16:9 aspect ratio for the 99% of videos out there.
Which always felt a little less than stellar on my ultrawide monitors.
Though there are some downsides I found using this large TV as a monitor.
I sit about 30 inches away from this TV for my comfort and readability at 100% scaling
but at that distance you're viewing the edges of the screen at a bit off angle, that
can be hard to see without physically moving your head around.
This is definitely a case where a slight curve would have been helpful.
Also using a fully maximized window or web browser is going to be pretty inefficient
with such a large screen leaving lots empty areas on most websites and just feels a little
too big trying to constantly scan your eyes across the entire screen.
The benefit for me having a large display is still keeping my applications relatively
small but having the flexibility to lay them all out at the same time like a multi monitor
setup just without any of the bezels.
Gaming on the 4K TV works okay with the low input lag and feels nicely cinematic for casual
games especially when you can sit back with a controller in hand.
But for shooters or face paced games I find it a little too big and overwhelming, and
definitely prefer a higher refresh rate ultrawide monitor instead.
Other considerations to think about if you plan on using this 4K TV as a monitor is the
lack of DisplayPort connections.
Only 2 of the 3 HDMI ports on the TV will support the 4K 4:4:4 chroma subsampling for
clear on screen text.
And also consider some of your devices like my Dell XPS 15 laptop for example that won't
support anything beyond 4K 30Hz over HDMI Also with TVs, they won't have a power saving
standby mode like most PC monitors.
It will automatically turn the TV off it doesn't detect a signal from a sleeping computer but
it takes about 15 minutes before this kicks in.
And when you wake your computer you'll need to manually power it back on.
The power button on the back of the TV is hard to reach so I just keep the remote close
by and turn it on and off manually with the rest of my computer.
And finally the stand, like most TVs it doesn't have any adjustable features like tilt or
height but mounting it on a TV arm mount is always an option.
So that's a quick look at me using a Sony 43 inch 4K TV as my PC monitor.
And to my surprise, I think I'll continue to use as my main productivity monitor over
my usual ultrawide.
The large TV screen real estate gives me more flexibility than a smaller ultrawide and is
less hassle without the bezel in a multi display setup.
While I don't recommend it if fast paced gaming is your primary objective where a high
refresh rate ultrawide will work better.
And there are some caveats like the lack of DisplayPort connectivity and needing to use
remote to turn the display on and off.
But if those are deal breakers you could also just look at some of the proper 43" 4K monitors
from LG and Dell.
But those are just my thoughts on why I'll continue to be using this 4K TV as my monitor
until something bigger and better comes along.
But hope you guys enjoyed this one.
You know what to do.
And I'll see you in the next video.
