The Key Ingredients For Achieving Your Goals [With Free Recipe (For Success) Planner] - Duration: 11:00.

Look at this dinky little thing!

Today I want to talk about effectively planning your goals, and the three main ingredients that you will need,

and how this guy is going to help you. Consider this your goal recipe book.

Now I don't know about you but I have a tendency to want to do all the things all the time,

and that ends up with me having a to-do list about a mile long, and I get so discouraged.

And that's kind of where I am right now. Well, it's kind of where I always am

Too many things, not enough time.

So I am trying to get back to basics. And I've been giving it a lot of thought

and I think, for me, goal planning, or goal achieving, comes down to three main things. Three core things –

your 'what', your 'why', and your 'how'.

So first, your 'what'. What is it that you want? And specifically.

You know, like, "health" and "loads of money" isn't very clear.

You need to think, you know, what is "health"? What do I consider healthy? What does health look like for me?

Or what is "loads of money"? You know, what figure is that?

And what form is it in? Is it in property? Is it in a savings account? Is it stocks? Investments? Is it cash?

What exactly do I really want?

And remember that it doesn't have to be this really big thing. You know, it can be something small as well.

I have a tendency to have a bit of a "go big or go home" approach when it comes to goal setting.

And sometimes it helps me, because it challenges me, you know? It forces me to push.

But other times it can leave me feeling a bit overwhelmed.

So one of my goals right now is just to catch up on laundry.

I'm OK at washing the clothes and drying them, but ironing, folding, putting them away? Not so much.

So I am going to be working on that.

It is very specific. You know, I just have to fold, iron, and put away all of the clothes that are currently in the laundry room

and then, thereafter, I need to complete a load from start to finish.

That means washing, drying, and having everything put away all in the space of a 24 hour period.

So that is my 'what' right now. I'm sure yours is very different, but just make sure that it is specific. What EXACTLY?

Next, then, is 'why'. So why do you want it? Why is it important to you?

Why should you make it a priority? You know, why should you make sacrifices for it and work really hard towards it?

It's really easy to say, you know, that you want to be healthy. Everyone wants that.

But why should you make it a priority right now in your life?

Why should it take precedence over everything else that you've got going on?

And they have to be really personal 'whys'.

So, like I said, everyone wants to be healthy, and everyone knows that being healthy is good for you.

There are loads of benefits. You know, there are loads of reasons why you should be healthy.

But the difference between someone who makes that a priority in their lives and really works towards it and goes all out,

and someone who just, you know, thinks that they would like to be healthy but really does nothing about it,

is the quality of the 'why'.

I had tried for years to give up chocolate. Sometimes I had some kind of moderate success.

There was a period where I managed to give it up for a few months.

But the second Christmas after Scout was born, that's when it all changed for me.

So, I had overindulged. As usual. And I felt sick. As usual.

And I just suddenly thought to myself, 'I need to stop doing this. You know, I can't go on like this. Something needs to change.

I have a child. You know, I can't get diabetes. Or, best-case-scenario, be a terrible example to her.'

I haven't touched chocolate since.

So really get to the root of your 'why'. And make sure that it is, like, a deep, burning a desire

because if it's not, it will be too easy for you to find an excuse not to do it.

And if you don't have a burning 'why', that's OK. Just find yourself another goal.

And lastly, the 'how'. Because talk is cheap.

Anyone can set a goal but not everyone can achieve it.

If you want something to happen, you have to do something about it.

So how are you going to achieve the level of fitness you want?

How are you going to get your bank balance back in the black?

And again, it comes back to specifics.

So just saying, you know, "I'm going to exercise more and eat vegetables" isn't going to cut it.

How much exercise? You know, how often? How are you going to move your body, exactly?

How are you going to gain muscle? How, exactly, are you going to make sure that you are eating better?

How are you going to track your progress? Your workouts? Your meals?

Or, how are you going to earn more money? Or how are you going to save more money?

The 'how' is what takes you from thoughts to action. You know, from planning something to actually executing on it.

From setting goals to actually achieving them.

And the smaller you can make your steps, the more likely that you will take them.

So if I tell myself that I am going to lock myself in the laundry room and I'm not coming out until all of the clothes are ironed, folded, and all of that,

you know, guess how easy it is going to be for me to come up with some excuse not to do it. Or to procrastinate on it.

Because, you know, I don't have a whole afternoon that I could just dedicate to laundry.

The things we tell ourselves.

But if I say, 'OK, I am going to fold and/or iron clothes while I'm watching my favourite TV show, for example,

which is on three nights a week', you know, that is much more achievable because I'm not sacrificing other time.

You know, it's not taking me any extra time. I'm not giving up another activity to do it.

It's not taking away from anything else in my life, and it is a very straightforward, specific plan for how I am going to achieve my goal.

So where does this little guy fit into all of this?

For me, writing down goals is so important. If I don't have my goals written down, I will forget them.

You know, or I will be distracted by something else.

So it is much easier to stick to goals if you have them written down.

You know, if you have your "recipe" written down, rather than just trying to rely on random thoughts and good memory.

And there are loads of studies that show that people who write down their goals are significantly more successful at achieving them than those who don't.

So this is the Bluebird planner. Or you could just grab yourself any small notebook.

But the thing I really love about this one is that it is specifically geared towards goals.

You know, you're not gonna look through it and then get distracted with appointments and notes and things like that.

And the fact that it is so small means that you can carry it with you wherever you go so you will always have that reminder of what you are working towards.

It is broken down into twenty weeks. So you start by setting your goals for the first ten weeks.

Then you break them down by day, so writing down all of those little steps that are going to get you there

because it's what you do in the day-to-day that's going to add up to the big, long-term habits and results.

You have a little section at the end of each week to review,

and then once you get to the end of the ten weeks, you do an overall review and you set your goals for the next ten weeks.

Rick, the guy who designed it, asked for my feedback on it and ways that he could improve it.

Honestly, the only thing I can think of is maybe extending it to twenty-six weeks, and that way it would include a whole half year.

But that's possibly just my Type-A tendencies.

You know, honestly, that's a very minor thing, and the website is called Twenty Weeks so...

Now, how can you get your hands on one? If you go to twentyweeks.com, you can pick one up from there.

They are $6 and using the code 'GYST' will get you free international shipping.

$6 to significantly increase your chance of successfully achieving your goals in the next twenty weeks?

Shut up and take my money!

Or if you are on a very tight budget and you just can't stretch to $6, you can actually pick up a free printable version of the planner.

Same address – twentyweeks.com.

Honestly, though, if you can spare the $6, go for it.

The guy didn't ask me to review it or promote it in any way; he just wanted my feedback on it so he that he could help more people.

I like that. Nice work, Rick.

The reason that goals are weighing so heavily on my mind right now is because, the week after next,

I am going to be putting up a video on mid-year reviews.

So yes, it is mid-year. It's time to re-evaluate everything.

So I'm going to be talking about how I do my mid-year review, and sharing some tips with you on how you can get the most out of it,

and how you can help yourself stay on track towards your resolutions, or annual goals, or whatever you want to call them.

And I'm going to be using this little guy to keep myself on track towards my goals for the second half of the year.

In the meantime, if goal-setting is your jam, then check out my playlist that is dedicated to it.

If you are not currently smashing your goals, you soon will be.

Until next time, go grab yourself one of these. Remember the code 'GYST' gets you free international shipping.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh, agus feicfidh mé sibhse go luath. Slán!

This is Polly, by the way. She's a cat palm and I love her.

Fightweets: Dana White blames everyone but himself for CM Punk fiasco - Duration: 10:45.

Fightweets: Dana White blames everyone but himself for CM Punk fiasco

It's a rare quiet weekend on the MMA front.

But last weekend gave us plenty to discuss, so let's jump right into another edition of Fightweets.

CM Punk-Mike Jackson fallout.

@OnlyForKoolKids: Putting clearly out of their depth pro wrestlers on a main card, giving title shots to fighters who failed to make weight, giving title shots heavyweights who score two flashy KOs against diminished opponents - how bad is Dana White for the UFC's credibility?.

Wow, that's a pretty harsh-sounding indictment when you string them together back-to-back-to-back.

I'm not sure it's fair to lump Alistair Overeem, assuming that's the person you're referring to with the heavyweights, in with all the rest.

'Reem was on a streak of six wins in his previous seven fights before his loss to Francis Ngannou, and earned the right to step back in and fight another solid competitor in Curtis Blaydes.

That said.

man, just when you thought the lingering embers were finally being snuffed out on the raging dumpster fire that was CM Punk's attempt at a mixed martial arts career, along came Dana White with a bottle of kerosene.

"A lot of people talk sh-t about CM, well, get in there.

Come on over," White said on a recent podcast.

"Have a fight and fight one of these guys.".

Except, as some of my colleagues have noted, White left out the part where Punk was paid a half-million dollars to be part of his all-time stinker of a fight with Mike Jackson at UFC 225.

Yeah, there probably aren't a lot of people who would jump at the opportunity to fight in the UFC for 10K to win and 10K to show.

But for half a million per fight? Not only would professional fighters making a whole lot less than that jump at the opportunity, but so would most amateur fighters, and probably people with no MMA training willing to get knocked out just to collect the check.

Here's where those who remain of Punk's defenders point out that Punk earned his spot through his fame in pro wrestling and blah blah blah.

But, even with UFC 225's pay-per-view numbers being hotly argued this week (something UFC could refute by, you know, releasing documented numbers), there's nothing that suggests Punk brought the company any new business this time around.

White's words about Punk-Jackson in the wake of UFC 225 have come off like he wants to place the blame for this fiasco at the feet of everyone except the people who booked the bout, whether that call was made by White himself or his WME overlords.

You do not have to combine the promotional brain power of PT Barnum, Vince McMahon, and Bob Arum to know that Punk's drawing power in MMA was killed the minute he got steamrolled by Mickey Gall at UFC 203.

It's not Mike Jackson's fault he couldn't singlehandedly turn the fight into a remake of Forrest Griffin vs.

Stephan Bonnar; he looked exactly like he was, an 0-1 fighter who happened to be a lot better than the 0-1 fighter he faced.

There's even some logic in saying it's not Punk's fault for taking the opportunity, although his complete lack of form in the cage hardly made him look like someone who has been seriously training with a coach the caliber of Duke Roufus for three years.

No, in this case, the UFC was the one who made the call to plow ahead with a second Punk fight after all evidence suggested he doesn't belong anywhere near the UFC.

Lashing out at fans who had the temerity to call this stinkbomb of a fight exactly what it was isn't the sort of thing that is going make those folks want to pony up $65 for your premium, A-list product again any time soon.

Conor's return?.

@MitchThinks: Why should anyone believe Conor McGregor will fight in the UFC again?.

Well, Forbes' recently released, highest-paid athlete list had McGregor making $85 million for the Floyd Mayweather fight last year.

That's a hell of a lot of money.

But that's before the feds take their share of his paycheck.

And before the Irish feds take their share.

And before his agent, manager, trainer, and all take their cuts.

Then there are the costs of taking care of your family, friends, and crew in the loyal manner of an Irishman who has made it and is true to his roots.

Now add in the fact that McGregor has made it quite plain he enjoys living the lavish life, and.

well, the general notion McGregor has so much money he'll never need to fight again might not be such a certainty after all.

The window on a fighter's prime earning potential closes faster than you'd think.

The clock is ticking.

McGregor appeared contrite appearing in a New York City court on Thursday.

His manager made a statement which said all the right things.

Hopefully that's a sign McGregor is ready to get serious again.

UFC and Greg Hardy.

@chjobin: Where do we draw the line between entertainment and morale/ethics? Can we appreciate those like Hardy for their athletic career despite their past behavior? Mayweather made a fortune even after his jail time.

That's a good question that goes to the heart of the controversy over Greg Hardy.

If you're reading this, you know Hardy's story by now.

He was charged with domestic violence during his NFL days, and then on a drug charge.

He also happens to have quite a bit of potential as a professional fighter, in a division that isn't exactly super-deep on talent, and is training at one of the world's elite camps in American Top Team.

The fight industry has had a dirty side since.

well, since there's been a fight industry.

MMA is no different.

Last year, the horrors of Ramzan Kadyrov's dictatorship and his ties to MMA hit the mainstream, it became an issue for a minute, and then everyone kind of shrugged and moved on.

I'm not suggesting people who love combat sports and want to make this corner of the world a better place refrain from speaking up.

But there's a certain point where, either you continue to support the system despite moral objections or you don't.

If you feel strongly against Hardy getting a crack at the UFC, then you can always vote with your dollars.

Romero's future.

@TrustInCam: If Yoel moves up, what're the odds he beats Cormier for the title? AND if that happens, what're the odds we get a CHAMP v CHAMP trilogy with Bobby Knucks?.

So, this week, we found out that Yoel Romero's team is planning on suing the Illinois State Athletic Commission over what they claim was the commission going against its own rules by not allowing Romero a full two extra hours to cut down to middleweight championship weight for his UFC 225 fight with Robert Whittaker.

On one level, I can't blame Romero's team for trying this: Romero was rewarded for missing weight by three pounds against Luke Rockhold with a shot at Whittaker's belt, which means the UFC sent out a clear signal that someone who didn't do his job right will be rewarded, anyway.

Romero's team openly admitted they were going to simply use the first weigh-in as a loophole to buy another two hours to finish the job.

And why wouldn't they? The system consistently rewards people who prod every last gray area in the rulebook.

Until it doesn't.

Mendeley Tutorial #4: Using Dropbox with Mendeley for Flexibility and Backup - Duration: 5:01.

What's going on everyone? Brian Wesolowski. In this video

we're going to sign up for Dropbox and we're going to sync Dropbox to Mendeley as a place where we can store all of our PDFs

Now the next thing we want to do is sign up for a free Dropbox account

so a cloud-based storage system where we can also backup all of our PDFs and we'll talk about why later

but right now let's just install Dropbox and make sure that we have everything set up with all of the installs

so I already have dropbox.com conveniently pulled up and we want to create a new account. So

I'm going to create an account

and we also want to download Dropbox and get that onto our computer as well, so we're going to download Dropbox

Okay, so now job box is installed onto my computer and we can either put it in the dock if you're a Mac person

but also it pops up in the right-hand corner

So I opened up

Dropbox and you'll notice that I have two important folders that I've listed the first are Mendeley files and the second are Mendeley watch

folder, so if you could set up those two folders within your new Dropbox

system that's going to be really important and we'll we'll talk a little bit about it. Later

but generally speaking what we're actually going to do is connect and we're going to store all of our PDFs

instead of storing it locally on our computer, we're going to store it in Dropbox

For me personally. I have a home computer. I have a laptop

I have an office computer and I have computers in the research lab at my university and

because of that I want to be able to connect all of my

desktops to one particular place. So rather than storing everything just on one computer locally

I actually store everything in Dropbox and that way if I get a new computer or I'm working remotely on multiple

computers I can still connect all of the multiple

all of the multiple desktop applications I can feed everything

I put into my system into my Dropbox folder so that way I can access

everything remotely and that way it takes time out of having to

duplicate things and making sure that everything is being connected from one computer to the other

so it's for that reason that I really I

generally put everything in Dropbox and connect it through Dropbox because that just automates the process for me depending on any computer that I might

be on and that way I don't have to work on the online system

but I can keep everything stored within Dropbox as well

It also makes file sharing a little bit easier if I want to send some files to my students, whatever I want to do

I can easily share folders and I can share files that way the watch folder

we're going to talk a little bit later

but what the watch folder allows us to do is if we're downloading any type of PDF from a system such as ERIC or

JSTOR or

PsycInfo or any type of database

generally, what happens is when we download those they give us some weird name that's really not describable, a file name

that's not describable to what that actual

to what that actual article is

and so, generally what you have to do is then you have to type in the author and the date and whatever that might be

When you connect a watch folder now to Mendeley the minute you drag that

file into the watch folder

it's automatically going to convert to a standardized title using the author's name the date and

part of the title

so that just that helps in another step also so I don't have to go through and figure out what file is what file by

these random file numbers

but just throwing any file I'm interested in into the watch folder is automatically going to transform the title of the PDF

so now I know very specifically who the author is what the date is and what the title is and I can easily find it

and then from I can throw that into Mendeley

and we're going to talk a little bit about that more as we move through the different modules

but just that gives you the broad basis of why we're actually connecting everything now to Dropbox

so you've installed Dropbox and you want to make sure now that you have two folders you have your Mendeley files and then you have

Your Mendeley watch folder embedded within your Dropbox

I hope you enjoyed the video and found it helpful
