YouTube is in some serious hot water after social media users have been reporting that
they are getting anti gay ads before videos.
I'm going to tell you everything you need to know, here for you on IO.
Welcome back to inform overload, I'm Charlotte Dobre.
LGBT YouTuber Stevie Boebi shared a screenshot that shows an ad he saw before an Anna akana
video.
Gabydunn, an open bisexual, also shared a screenshot of the advertisement that appeared
before one of her videos as well.
The ad was for an organization called Alliance Defending freedom.
ADF is an American conservative Christian group that is openly against gay marriage
as well as gay adoption.
It is listed as an LGBT hate group under the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The ad was part of a video called Should The Government Force people to create art that
violates their beliefs.
Apparently it had to do with a real life story of a florist who refused to create floral
arrangements for a same sex wedding.
The video makes the case that she had every right to refuse to make the flower arrangements.
This particular case actually went to court, and the Washington supreme court did not side
with the woman who refused to make the floral arrangements.
That's not the only one though.
There's another anti gay ad from conservative radio host Michael brown, where his ads is
basically 2 minutes of him ranting about how being gay is bad.
The thing that's totally outrageous about this is YouTube demonetizes most lgbtq content,
yet at the same time they are allowing anti gay ads appear before videos.
I'm not even joking, gay is a controversial world and it automatically gets flagged, which
often leads to demonetization.
Simply because To make matters worse, these ads are appearing before LGBT YouTuber videos.
Why is YouTube taking money from anti-lgbt organizations and hate groups, yet at the
same time, preventing LGBT YouTubers from making income, when they have every right
to do so?
Naturally a lot of reactions to this on social media have called YouTube out for being homophobic.
Others blame the YouTube algorithm which Rowan Ellis described as being fundamentally flawed.
Meaning that YouTube might not know about whats going on since everything is automated.
But still, why flag terms like gay and LGBT, yet not screen advertisers that pay YouTube
to appear before videos?
What do you think, is YouTube homophobic?
Let me know in those comments.
For now I'm going to respond to some comments from previous videos.
Frisk – so basically what you're saying is, the matrix is real.
