What is VACnet and how does it work for CS:GO? - Duration: 4:15.
VACnet was explained by John McDonald who works at Valve, and he also talked about deep learning.
In this video I'll explain VACnet and how it works for CS:GO.
Hey guys, salut mes amis och hallå gubbar, Maxim here.
So this very interesting conference session on GDC by John McDonald explained how Valve
uses deep learning methods to combat cheaters in CS:GO.
What they did was create the project known as VACnet.
VACnet to begin with, is not something new, it's been in the game for about a year now.
It's also not an upgraded version of Valve's Anti Cheat known as VAC, it's basically an
additional system that can be used for other games as well.
So what is VACnet?
In short, VACnet works together with Overwatch to bust cheaters, by using deep-learning.
What it does is that it analyzes players, and if it thinks that someone is cheating
it sends them to Overwatch.
VACnet learns to spot cheaters based on our own judgement skills of who we think is cheating
or not.
Each time we decide to convict a player for being a cheater or not, VACnet will receive
the data, learn from it, and evolve.
In the end, the system will become powerful enough to know for sure who's cheating or not.
But, we are still in charge of convicting players through Overwatch.
This means that even if VACnet is 99% sure that someone is cheating, we are still the judges.
The most interesting fact for me was, according to Valve, when a human sends people to Overwatch,
only 15-30% of them get banned, but when VACnet sends people to Overwatch, 80-95% are banned.
Probably because we love to report players that are simply better than us.
Either way, VACnet is very effective, and it will only
get better and better since they're looping the entire process.
VACnet collects the data, gets better and better from Overwatch, it monitors the matches
played on Matchmaking or Wingman, it submits cases to us, we Humans determine guilt, and
then it repeats the same process over and over again.
So right now, to fight cheaters we need to do as much Overwatch cases we can, to remove
as much cheaters as possible.
Speaking of cheaters, VACnet is currently focused on one type of cheat, aimbot.
With aimbot they can capture lots of information from each shot.
For example, what weapon is being used, what was the result, how far was the target, the
viewangle pitch and yaw, etc etc.
All this becomes a data package which they call "atoms".
But in order for VACnet to work, it needs more than one atom, and right now the system
is set to 140 atoms, or 140 shots.
When this data is captured the system knows when to send someone to Overwatch.
Now you might be wondering, for a system like that to check every shot from every player
in every match, they probably need, like, lots of servers to handle all the work, right?
Well that is very true, since CS:GO has about 600.000 matches a day, they need around 1700
CPU's working non-stop, just for VACnet to work.
I like this bit of information because it puts some perspective into how much people
are actually playing matchmaking.
And it also shows that they do care about cheaters ruining the game.
So the future of VACnet is basically to expand it so it catches other types of cheats, and
release it for other games and services.
I think the idea of VACnet is pretty cool, and it's clever by Valve because they're not
the ones handing out the game bans, we are.
But maybe in the future, the system will be so smart that, we won't need to.
I'll link the full video so you can watch the conference session down below.
What's your thoughts on this?
Oh and remember to do some Overwatch cases.
That's it for this video, hope you enjoyed it, I'll see you guys in the next one, and
go bananas!

Who is GABRIEL CAZES?- Hannover / Germany - 100 NOMS EP 55 - Duration: 7:30.
Hello , how are you?
today I m in Hannover, in Germany
and as you can see, I m sick
I m tired
and I m at my friend Gaby's place. We went all day
at the theater where he works
Hello Niko
Hello everyone
how did we met you and me?
on stage
where?in Paris?
i followed a girlfriend
to Montreal in Canada
there i started to write my first songs
and i found a place to play
the name was " Dépanneur Café"
i was playing every saturday morning
for a meal
and i improvised a lot
i was playing piano, guitar
making a lot of experimentations
and one day a producer saw me playing
and he went to talk to me after the concert
to ask me to work with him
on a stage play in Germany
so i followed him and we made our first play together
and it went really good
so since then he asks me regularly to work with him
and it's an absolute privilege
and a pleasure to write music for the theater
here in Germany, which is a country of theater and acting
i had an amazing childhood with my father
who had a crazy collection of instruments
an old piano
an old saxophon
a guitar and some percussions
some flutes from strange countries
in the basement of the theater
there are some rooms full of instruments
and i can use whatever i want
it's magic, it's like going into a free store
indeed, it's my father that made me become a musician, my mother
who was an artist also
she was creating some art objects, painting
there was always something boiling in our family
Hello Niko, it's your friend Olivier
i would love to ask you
what do music brings to the world
to the evolution of the world
we are progressing everywhere today, there is the modernization
the globalisation
internet and everything but we ask ourselves
what does music brings to this
to the evolution and everything?
i would like to know
this is an incredible question
Olivier this question brings so much things
because finally music has always been there
since the beginning
i feel that it's almost visceral to human
somehow what music brings to the world is that it
accompany the evolution
of course it evolves with the modern techniques
and it becomes
technological music
now everyone can do music at home
you can compose a symphony with a single computer
because once there is music
this is what unify everyone
so finally
music facilitate the evolution of the world...well it should
this is my friend Sika
so my question
concern traveling
does music facilitate your traveling in this world
je me reconnais dans ta question
music helps the traveling
and traveling facilitate music
indeed my only way to travel is through music
i rarely travel to a place
visit a country
just to be there and be an observant
with music you can become an actor
when you travel you will meet people
just like this
if you start to play music anywhere
there will always be someone coming
to talk, to play on a table or guitar
so I m Senator Manasko
and i wanted to ask
in Art
what Art makes the more money?
what Art makes the more money
Lie... Lie is what makes the most money
it's an Art to make war
it's horrible to say
this is all an Art as we say in french
this is all an Art
in the productions that i make with Thor, there is always a lot of blood
the walls bleeding etc..
look!
the questions you just asked me
these art Artist's questions
i don't know so many people that ask this
from your generation
and it seems that you still quite young
but thinking this way
looking at Art and music in general
really nice questions
one of this days, i hope we can meet
and well, you have to practice
we all know, thousands of hours
thanks Gaby
thanks guys
you hear this? it's the sound of sponges
so a sponge can sound like this
this is a german tea pot
one for Gaby, one for Niko
stop laughing, this is serious
it's kinda funny to be interviewed
by a friend that you know for 15years
the Tea pot is getting angry in the background
it's the applause...the claps!
