What Price Gorgeousness? Minor Updates for the 2019 Jaguar F-type - Duration: 4:48.
As the Jaguar I-Pace becomes the luxury segment's first dedicated battery-electric car to confront
Tesla, the F-type enters 2019 with a simpler mission: to burn gas and look beautiful.
Jaguar's updated two-seater will start at $61,745 for the coupe and $64,845 for the
convertible, an increase of $850 over the new-for-2018 four-cylinder base model.
Renamed P300, the entry-level F-type comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four
engine good for 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, exclusively with rear-wheel drive
and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The three supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 models whittle down to two—the 400 Sport was only
for 2018—with either 340 horses and 332 lb-ft in the P340 or 380 ponies and 339 lb-ft
in the P380, which was formerly called the S. Both V-6 models can be equipped with a
six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive ($69,845 to start for the P340 coupe
and $83,045 for the P380 R-Dynamic coupe; convertibles add $3000).
All-wheel drive is limited to the automatic P380 and costs another $3000 (an automatic
P340 costs $1300 extra).
While brake-based torque vectoring is now standard on all F-type models, the P380 R-Dynamic
adds a limited-slip rear differential, adaptive dampers, 20-inch wheels (up from the standard
18s and optional 19s), and the (in our opinion) 100 percent required option that is the driver-switchable
active exhaust.
This system used to be standard on S and all manual trims but now is a $225 stand-alone
option.
Don't drive an F-type without one.
The F-type R, with its 550-hp supercharged 5.0-liter V-8, is the priciest upgrade.
It costs $101,745 to start, and it can only be had with all-wheel drive and the automatic
transmission.
The 575-hp SVR brings a titanium exhaust, extra carbon fiber, and enough mods to safely
reach 200 mph, and it starts at $123,745.
Convertibles on both V-8 trims add $3100.
Added LED headlights, automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, a backup
camera, and the upgraded InControl Touch Pro infotainment system as standard.
Therefore, not much changes for 2019.
Eighteen exterior colors join a new SVO Premium Palette, which means it's no longer possible
to order a bright orange F-type without dropping at least $4900.
Matte finishes are now available in those 18 shades for $8500.
Yet another 20-inch wheel design is available as part of a carbon-ceramic brake package,
which costs up to a hefty $14,740 extra, depending on model.
Two no-cost options are our personal favorites: a rear badge delete (removing everything except
the Jaguar logo and leaper) and a spoiler delete on SVR models.
But removing the fixed articulating wing on the SVR brings severe consequences to the
owner's ego, like a speed limiter set to the R's 186-mph top speed.
Inside, the F-type sports a new 10-inch touchscreen that spans two inches more than before, thanks
to the removal of the physical shortcut buttons on the left and right sides.
A frameless rearview mirror and new bezel trim for the side air vents round out the
changes.
The 2019 F-type should reach dealer lots in May, looking as splendid as ever.

Launch Date Set for Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS)! - Duration: 4:54.
Hello Space Fans and welcome to another edition of Space Fan News.
In this episode, there's an update on the NASA TESS mission.
A date has finally been set!
TESS is a followup mission to Kepler and K2 and is designed to scan the entire sky over
two years to find as many exoplanets as it can among the closest and brightest stars
to Earth.
This is coming at a perfect time as the venerable K2 mission winds down forever.
Well folks, the date is set: the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, or TESS, has a
launch date!
On April 16th at 6:32 pm ET, SpaceX will launch the mission that will find lots of new, nearby
worlds aboard a Falcon 9 rocket.
Back on March 15, the spacecraft passed a review that confirmed it was ready for launch.
For final launch preparations, the spacecraft will be fueled and encapsulated within the
payload fairing of its SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
For those who don't know, the mission is being led out of MIT, and it's going to find
thousands of new planets orbiting bright nearby stars.
It's going to build upon the legacy of the Kepler mission, only it's going focus on nearby
bright stars that are sprinkled across the whole sky, and it's going to help us answer
a really important question.
Which of our nearest stellar neighbors has planets?
Like the mission name suggests, it's going to use the transit method to find these exoplanets,
just like Kepler does.
It will look for signs of planets, ranging from Earth size, to giants larger than Jupiter
by measuring tiny dips in brightness as the planet passes between us and the host star.
For two years, TESS will scan the entire sky using four cameras, and each camera has a
16.8-megapixel sensor, covering a 24-degree square-- that's large enough to contain
an entire constellation.
They are arranged to view a vertical strip of the sky, called an observation sector.
TESS will watch each observation sector for about 27 days before rotating to next one,
covering first the south, and then the north to eventually build a map of 85 percent of
the sky.
This coverage--about 350 times what Kepler first observed--will make TESS the first exoplanet
mission to survey almost the entire sky.
TESS will fly in a highly elliptical orbit that maximizes the amount of sky the spacecraft
can image and is carefully timed with the orbit of the moon.
It will spend most of each 13.7 day orbit collecting data, and then, as it passes closer
to Earth, it will transmit that data to the ground.
Please watch our video on TESS that we made a while back for more details on the spacecraft
and the mission, it's up in the little thingy up here.
So this is great news after the disappointing news about the delay in the launch of JWST,
and it's coming at a time when the Kepler mission, which has since been renamed K2 after
it's initial science mission ended, is coming to a close.
We are in exciting times with respect to exoplanet discoveries.
With the magnificent Kepler/K2 sailing into the sunset, we have the upcoming TESS launch
to look forward to and I'm sure the discoveries coming out of that mission will be every bit
as exciting as Kepler's.
Don't forget to get a cool TESS T-shirt to show your support for Deep Astronomy and
the TESS Mission.

Codex CEO Mark Lurie explains the blockchain-based platform's key role for art & collectibles - Duration: 6:57.
My name is Mark Lurie, I'm the founder and CEO of codex protocol. To give you a
little personal background I'm from the US, I previously founded and sold a
venture backed online marketplace for fine art collectibles. So I've been the
art and collectibles space for a while, and before that I worked in venture
capital making startup investments, did an MBA and BA from Harvard. And can
you tell me what codex does?
So codex is a blockchain based title registry for
the art and collectibles market. So that includes fine art, fine wine, collectible
cars, jewelry and watches and unlike every other major asset class and this
is about a two trillion dollar asset class there's no way to prove your
ownership and there's no way to track ownership. There's no title registry.
that's really important because it makes it really easy to do a lot of things
like transact and insure and loan. So what we're doing is we're bringing
provenance onto the blockchain that's a history of ownership and transmission of
the item and it's the main factor in determining authenticity and thus value
of fine art and collectibles. And so with our title registry you'll be able to
know something's authentic and you'll be able to prove its yours. So that
seems like a really major flaw in the trading of these items. How was it
done before? It's very hard the way it's done before is you have the item and you
maybe have paper receipts maybe you don't and each time it's transacted you
have to do a lot of research and diligence. That's a big reason why today
and the art and collectibles market commissions are 40 percent plus it's
hard to get loans, it's hard to know if something's authentic and it's really
hard to resell an item and prove it's authentic. What we're doing is we
brought together an industry consortium of auction houses and
software providers to the auction industry who are all coming together and
agreeing we have to change this we have to create a title registry. And so on day
one we will be adopted by a big portion of the market. So how do you go back and
create that provenance? What are your
validating factors because it seems like this is only gonna work from now onwards.
That's true but most items go through auction at some point in their life and
the way authenticity is determined now is you say oh what auction house or what
dealer was it purchased from? We'll trust the good ones and we won't trust the bad
auction houses. We're gonna load ten million items a year or more or at
least up to that from our auction houses onto the registry. So starting now those
will have good provenance and people will be able to make a judgements
around whether it's authentic. So essentially you have to start from the
status quo but for the future we have to start somewhere? And
then we have one application that we're building on top of it this is the first
application there will be many applications and this is called Biddable
Biddable makes it possible to bid anonymously at all those auction houses
and pay with cryptocurrency so that people with crypto can purchase art and
collectibles. Anyone can bid more easily than they can now which is
actually surprisingly complicated. So Biddable will make it easy for people
around the world to invest in art collectibles. So can you explain to me
why it's complicated now and how this will make it better?
Sure. So today in order to bid in an auction you have to apply a couple weeks
ahead. You may have to send bank statements proving your net worth and
even then the auction house may not let you bid because they need to know that
if you bid and win you'll pay. They lose about ten percent of their revenue to
people who bid and win but never pay and so particularly people in Asia can't bid
in Western auctions because Western auctions can't read Mandarin bank
statements. That's a major problem for the industry and so we're creating a
for our first application is a title escrow application so that you can make
a cryptocurrency deposit and be instantly approved to bid in an auction.
That makes it much easier for the bidder and gives confidence to the
auction house that you can pay. Do you have any competitors? This is
actually a really big problem and a very obvious problem art and collectibles.
Lots of people have thought about it before and many people
have tried. The reason it hasn't been done in the past is because no one wants
to register all their art and collectibles and jewelry with a central
authority. With the blockchain they can prove their ownership without disclosing
their identity to any central authority. So there are multiple people who have
tried, but the problem is how do you get adoption? How do you make a title
registry to standard? We have a consortium of a large portion of the
auction market that's pre agreed to use the Codex title registry which is why we
know we're going to be successful. But the idea itself is actually quite
obvious if you're in the space. So there aren't other people trying to do this using a blockchain?
There are other people trying to do this with blockchain but none of them have contractual
agreements and partnerships with all of the major auction houses such that they . will
actually become the standard. So you've got all the agreements in place
what stage are you at in terms of launching and going live?
We announced last week that we're doing the project. We've had a lot of good
reception. We won the first place in a 40 company competition and we'll be
launching later this year in all of those auction houses. We're under
development today. And so where's the road map from there once you launch
what are you looking to do next? So we'll launch with those auction
houses and we'll do a lot of marketing to get a lot of new bidders involved and
bidding and using biddable and all those items will get registered on the title
registry. And then what we'll do is we'll go do partnerships with other
stakeholders in the art and collectibles market whether it's art shipping, whether
it's insurers, asset-backed lenders, dealers, galleries, artists who might want
royalty rights on their pieces, and will encourage them to build applications and
we'll help them build applications so that we have a kind of the ecosystem all
using this title registry and cementing it more and more
as the standard and solving all those problems in the art and collectibles market.
