Who is Jenna Dewan – age, movies, Step Up audition and wedding amid Channing Tatum split
Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum have ended their marriage after nine years together.
The pair first found fame in 2006 movie Step Up, in which they starred as dancers that fall in love, much like their real live selves.
But who is Jenna Dewan, what other movies has she been in and what else do we know about her? Born 3 December 1980 in Connecticut, the 37-year-old is a dancer, actress and businesswoman.
She was born to Nancy Smith, who is of German and English ancestry, and Darryll Dewan, who is of Lebanese and Polish descent and, notably, was on the 1972 Notre Dam football team.
Jenna has three brothers: Dawson, Dayne and Daniel.
She first began her career as a backing dancer for Janet Jackson but other artists she had danced for include Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliott and Pink.
With Janet Jackson, she appeared in her music videos for Doesn't Really Matter in 2000 and All For You in 2001, also going on the All For You Tour that year.
Jenna shot into the spotlight in 2006 when Step Up was released, which was also her estranged husband Channing Tatum's big break.
Following the news of their split, their audition tape has emerged, showing they had chemistry right from the start.
They met on set in 2005 and started dating shortly after filming had wrapped.
After becoming engaged in 2008, they married on 11 July 2009 in Malibu and have daughter Everly Elizabeth Maiselle Tatum, four, together.
Other acting work of Jenna's includes movies Take The Lead, 10 Years, The Six Wives of Henry Lefay and The Jerk Theory.
TV work she has done includes Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal, American Horror Story, The Playboy Club, The Mindy Project, Witches Of East End and Supergirl, in which she currently stars as Lucy Lane, the sister of Lois Lane.
Jenna has previously dated Justin Timberlake.
As well as acting and dancing, Jenna runs production company 33andOut Productions with Tatum.
The pair announced their split on Monday 2 April, sharing a statement on their respective Instagram accounts.
The statement on their split reads: 'Hey world! So… We have something we would like to share.
'First off, it feels odd that we have to share this kind of thing with everyone, but it's a consequence of the lives we've chosen to lead, which we also happen to be deeply grateful for.
'We're living in an incredible moment in time, but it's also a time where truth can easily get distorted into 'alternative facts' so we want to share the truth so you know that if you didn't read it here then it's most certainly fiction.' 'We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple,' it continued.
'We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together.
'Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.
There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision — just two best-friends realising it's time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible.
'We are still a family and will always be loving dedicated parents to Everly.
We won't be commenting beyond this, and we thank you all in advance for respecting our family's privacy.' It ended: 'Sending lots of love to everyone, Chan&Jenna.' Just two weeks ago Channing shared an adorable snap of him and Jenna after their daughter has given them a gorgeous make over.
Channing showed off some new face paint facial hair and a stylish monocle, while Jenna was rocking a full face of purple butterfly courtesy of their toddler.
The Magic Mike star captioned their cute selfie with: 'This is what it looks like when a little tyrant fairy artist holds you down and makes your face look "better".' She once told Ellen DeGeneres that as their romance blossomed Channing was unsure if he wanted to be in a relationship but that one night 'he had gone out with all the dancers on Step Up and had this crazy, wild tequila night and he said he had the chance "to be free" and he couldn't stop thinking about me'.
'So, he comes down to my hotel room at two in the morning and he's banging on the door, and I'm like, "What is going on?" And I go and I open the door, and he's in a sombrero.
