INCREDIBLE Fishing for HUGE Salmon -- (Spin Fishing) - Duration: 8:53.

Welcome everybody to this little video Today we are at Skjern River

Which is my local River

It's where I'm from and where I fish most of the time

And today I brought my buddy Niko he's from from Germany

Now he's in school in Spain and he flew all the way in here to fish this weekend with me

Last time I was here with Nico We fished like three days

And I had to go back to school

And then three days after that he was like: "Oh I got a big fish"

And I was like: "How good is it?"

"It is quite good" and I get the picture and it was a massive fish

- Like.. - It was a good fish

One meter and ten + male

I have a little bit of the fight it's not the best quality

but I think you should see it anyways

- Yeah it was a real bummer you weren't there though - Yeah

It was a really nice fish

Buttoday we're here to talk to you a little bit about how to fish here

The rivers here in Denmark are a bit special compared to other rivers

It's really deep And where it's really deep

Is mostly where you're gonna get your salmon

So you want to get down and get down fast

And we are fishing with a spinning rod

Because you can get down really fast and you can annoy the salmon

Of course you can also catch them here by fly which is also like really popular

But we're using a spinning setup

And first we're gonna talk to you about what we use here

I'm currently developing a rod for Zpey

It's 10,6 feet

A proper reel as well I use a Daiwa Certate

Which is a really really nice reel

And it has a really nice breaking system

So you are sure you can keep a lot of tension on your fish

And on this reel we have 0,17mm fireline

It will manage it's a nice line it's really hard to break

I use a 0,45mm leader

Which is really really thick

The point is this is really good for the fish

If you scrape the fish with the braided line

Especially fresh fish, when they come in

- You're just gonna scrape off all the.. Scales? - Yeah

So if you have this really thick leader

Doesn't look too nice But it will help the fish a lot

And to connect those together we have a "Not a Knot"

And on the end of that we have a swivel to keep the line from kinking

The reason we use the"Not a Knot" is because you never ever wanna to tie knots on your fireline

- Yeah it will snap - Yeah!

You need to use the "Not a Knot" It doesn't look really nice

But it works! And that's what you want you want

You want the salmon, you want to land it!

Because it is a dream fish <3

This is a Flying-Condom 16 gram it has a size 5 blade

And we tied it on a helicopter rig to use really small hooks, barbless hooks

These are owner hooks size 10 - 2x

Because they need to be really strong to handle these really big fish

We throw these condom spinners upstream and let them sink a little bit

And then we drag them down in the pools

The pools are hard to read here but once you figure out how to read the water

Yeah you know where you should put your spinner and your fly

And where you should get your big-ass salmon

yeah once you're fishing you always want to be prepared

- You want to have.. what do you call this? - The pliers

Yeah the pliers You want to have that on your nipple all the time

Well first off because it's nice to have it in your nipple

And yeah, because when you have a salmon 100cm maybe 110cm

You are kind offreaking out and adrenaline is pumping and.. Phew!

You know you always have it here!

You should always have this just here!

This is not something you should do This is something you can do

Bring a net

When you have this you can take maybe five minutes of your fight

Because first time you have it in, you can net it

So for catch & release it's nice with a net

Make sure it's a rubber net or else you will damage the scales of the fish

So take care of those fish

We need those fish!

- Yeah especially the big ones - Yeah!!

- We want them to come up here spawning - Yeah

There's happened a lot here at the river

Because the government really took care of it

And we can see that now we get a lot of fish here now

And really really big fish

- And we have now a tourist.. What do you call it? - Like an Info-House

Where one of the bigger salmon is on the wall

You can go and see that it's over 20 kilos it's a nice fish

on a racist tirade against the policemen, a tirade,

she was like, "I don't want black policemen,"

but she didn't just go black policemen,

she called them kaffirs, which is basically

South Africa's version of the N word,

but it's almost worse than the N word

because like in America, black people own

the N word, they're like we're gonna take it,

we're gonna use it in hip hop,

we're gonna make it cool.

In South Africa, people are just like no.

There's like no, we're not gonna do that at all.

So, it's another word, it's kaffir

and we didn't use nigger because America

And so then she like, she said this to the cops 48 times.

This, honestly, is one of the best questions ever.

Thank you so much.

And I've got to say, huge thanks to Ava's mom for sending it in to us.

You know, one of the things that my mom taught me when I was just about your age is that

I could talk with God any time I wanted to.

You know, she said I had this direct line to God and I could ask questions, and I'd

always get an answer back.

What I'd have to do is just listen to that still, small voice inside.

And that's how I'd hear my answer.

 

Now, that said, I do have an A for your Q.

So my belief is this.

I believe that God made anger so that we could use to to create a much better, more loving

world.

And here's what I mean by that.

Anger, it's really a natural emotion.

It's not bad, and it's certainly not wrong to feel.

Anger really is just energy, and all energy can be transformed.

Almost like magic.

Just like electricity or heat.

And you want to know what else?

This is something most people don't know.

Once you understand anger and you really know how to use it, it can actually turn into this

super powerful and super positive force.

Because it can help you do things like stand up and speak out to help other people.

So, for instance, let's say that you saw someone being mean to another person.

Now, you might start to feel angry about that.

Right?

Well, guess what?

You can take that feeling and you can use it as fuel to do something positive like maybe

protect that person or speak up for them and their rights.

So I really think that God gave us anger so that we could use it to transform it into

the most powerful force in the entire universe.

And you know what that is?

That force is love.

And here are three steps that'll help you do just that.

Step number one, first thing you've gotta do is you've gotta really feel it.

So when I say feel it, here's what I mean.

I want you to take a really deep breath and see if you can feel that energy somewhere

in your body.

Just like you know how excitement can sometimes feel like butterflies in your belly?

Well, see if you can feel that anger energy in your body.

So is it in your chest or maybe is it in your throat?

Or maybe it's in your big right toe.

Because when you allow yourself to really feel an emotion in your body, typically it

only lasts just a few seconds before it changes into something else.

So when you really allow yourself to feel that energy, then we're gonna be ready to

move on to step number two.

Step number two is this: you've gotta question it.

Now, here's what I mean by that.

I want you to get really curious and ask yourself, Ava, what exactly do you feel angry about?

What do you feel is wrong right now?

And, more importantly, why?

So ask yourself, what do you think should happen instead?

This is where perhaps it would be a good idea to talk with your mom or your favorite teacher,

or you can even jot down your answers or draw a picture about it.

Because understanding what you feel angry about and why is gonna help you understand

your values or what you really care about in this life.

So some examples are things like fairness or kindness or generosity.

And once you know your values, that can help you move on to step number three, which is

this.

Step number three is where we get to transform it.

And this, my darling, is where all of the magic happens.

So remember, right, anger is just energy and all energy can be transformed.

Now, you want to ask yourself, is there some positive action that you might want to take

to either help yourself or to help someone else?

Is there something that you might want to make or share with others?

Is there something that you can imagine that you could do to help you convert or transform

that energy into a loving, positive action?

Now, once again, this is all really great stuff to talk about with your mom or your

favorite teacher, or really any grownup in your life that you trust.

And I want you to hear a quote on this topic from someone who's one of my heroes in life,

Dr. Maya Angelou.

Who said this.

"Use that anger.

You write it.

You paint it.

You dance it.

You march it.

You vote it.

You do everything about it."

AUF - A scholarship for international talent - Duration: 1:34.

I am a foreign student from the US, California...

who has come to Amsterdam to study at the UvA.

Doing a master's degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in ecology and evolution.

When I found out I had been awarded an Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship I was absolutely overjoyed.

Because without that type of scholarship there's simply no way I would be able to afford to do this.

I was really excited about the project that I am doing here working with ecoducts and wildlife overpasses.

Because where I am from, we have these wonderful Santa Monica Mountains...

that contain populations of mountain lions.

However, we have the 405 freeway, arguably one of the busiest freeways in Amerika...

that goes right along the mountains and just completely separates the mountain lion populations.

So it is really neat to do research here on bridges that already have been built and then...

with the possibility of bringing that knowledge back to where I am from.

Having the opportunity to do research has been absolutely wonderful...

and very fulfilling, and it really feels like I am beginning to step into the professional world.

I guess the biggest thing is just to gain the experience I need and...

make a difference when it comes to environmental conservation and science communication as well.
