In this episode we'll be discussing what spectrum is and what undesired, out of band

spurs are.

What's up everyone!!

The name is Nick Ben and I'm an engineer here at Keysight and welcome to the 3rd

episode of What the RF!

In the last episode we discussed the difference between the time domain and frequency domain

and how measuring signals in each has their own advantage.

In today's episode we'll discuss in more detail what exactly a signal analyzer measures

and the very important spurious emissions measurement that many of us will be making

post R&D in our product development cycle.

Alright, so from the previous episodes we know that signal analyzers are great tools

to use for a holistic picture of our device's signal.

On the signal analyzer our signals appear as distinct peaks over various frequencies.

But what exactly are we measuring on our signal analyzer?

We're measuring spectra.

Spectrum comprises of a collection of sinusoidal waves and with a signal analyzer we can measure

the power of the spectrum of known and unknown signals.

Signal analyzers at their core are receivers and their input is electrical signals.

Now with our signal analyzers we can measure the frequency, power, distortion, and out

of band emissions that are not easily detectable in the time-domain.

One such important out of band measurement is the spurious emissions measurement.

This measurement helps you detect non-harmonic, low-level spurs that are most commonly generated

by oscillators and transmitters of your system.

Signal analyzers with low-level noise floors are sensitive to very low signals like spurs.

This sensitivity is good because that means that we can actually see any spurs caused

by our device and they're not buried in the noise.

With the spurious emissions measurement we can validate that our device is not emitting

its remnant signal power into channels in which it�s not assigned to operate in.

Regulatory bodies like the FCC in the US and ETSI in Europe place strict limits on spurious

emissions, so to make sure you are meeting their standards, it is imperative to monitor

the spurious signals from your device.

To give you an idea of what issues spurious emissions can cause let's look at our signal

analyzer here where we've now set the center frequency to 100 MHz and the span to 10 MHz.

By connecting this antenna to the RF input of my signal analyzer we can see these distinct

signals.

I will put the trace to max hold so we can see these signals more clearly.

We can safely assume that these signals are local

radio stations, but let's confirm that.

Using this portable speaker I'm going to connect it to the analog jack here

and use the analog-demodulation app on our signal analyzer to see if we can confirm what signal this is.

With the analog-demod app we have 4 different screens that tell us useful things about our signal.

The RF spectrum, the demod waveform, the AF spectrum, and some useful statistics.

Oh wow!

Would you look at that, looks like it is a local radio station after all.

Let's look at a real situation where a spur can be problematic with this setup that

I have here.

I've connected two antennas, one to the RF output of the signal generator and another

to the RF input of the signal analyzer.

Let's use the signal generator to emulate a device that hasn't been checked for spurious

emissions, and as a result will emit in a bandwidth where it shouldn't be.

With the signal generator I can create an artificial spur, or rather a signal,

at the same frequency that we heard that local radio station on earlier 96.9 FM.

Now that I've created this signal we should hear the tone interfering with the radio station.

This demonstrates that if you have spurs from your device, in our case the signal generator,

it will interrupt signals of other devices operating in another channel, in this case

the 96.9 FM radio station.

Finding spurious emissions manually can be a time-consuming task that can potentially

take days to complete.

Fortunately, if you have a signal analyzer with a built-in spurious emissions measurement,

finding spurs is quick.

Now on my signal analyzer we can identify 4 spurs

and we also have a limit line for the maximum emissions according to any standard that we're trying to meet.

With this measurement table, we can also see any spurs that fail with this indicator right

here.

Identifying spurious emissions from your device will help you determine any potential design

or regulatory issues which can save you tons of time and money.

What Is Blockchain? - Duration: 5:07.

Hey, friends. Kris Krohn here with Limitless wealth TV and today I want to

talk about the blockchain but I want to talk about it from an over simplistic

point of view because I got too many friends out there that are just confused

like this technology is so new, it's so so weird, it's so strange, like what is it?

We're going to take just a couple minutes today and make it super super simple.

Hey, Kris. It's just an alphabet. What is blockchain technology and why

should I care? So there's so many people out there that are stressing trying to

understand what is this blockchain technology and the reality is, it's

really important to understand but only to a point. I mean, do you really

understand how the cloud works? No but as everyone adopting, is everyone using it,

even if you don't know that you're using it, you're actually using this technology.

It's important to have some understanding what blockchain technology

is because it's changing the world right now, it's changing the way that business

is done because it's the brand-new internet. Think of it as like Internet

2.0, except it's the secure Internet, it's the unhackable Internet and when you

want to understand what this is, it really is nothing more than a big dumb

ledger that keeps track of transactions but what makes it so simple and so safe

is that instead of a company or a person recording a transaction, you have all of

these computers on the blockchain from all over the world that are coming

together and actually verifying these transactions, you'd have with this

special segregation at least three computers at any given time that are

confirming and witnessing that a transaction has been completed and what

makes it so unhackable is that people from all over the world are plugging in

their computers and they're using it to support the blockchain so unless you can

hack hundreds or thousands or millions of computers all at once, you're really

not going to be able to hack the system so maybe down the road, someone gets

smart enough and ingenious enough to figure out how to do that but what it's

really doing is this new Internet 2.0, what it's doing is it's creating trust

and it's verifying these transactions by encrypting and decrypting information

and it's happening spread over multiple computers and you just don't know which

ones are going to be paying for actually doing these transactions so that's in

essence what the blockchain is, it's really powerful technology. In just

January of this year, we had our first real estate home transact through the

blockchain, first home in the world. Now normally if you want to transact a home,

think about it even. If you were buying a home from a family member or someone

that you trust, you're not going to walk in and give them a big bucket of money, we

use banks, they have wiring fees, we're going to have realtor fees, 3%

here and 3% there, that 6%, you get 2% in closing

costs. You could have 8% going out

the door and in closing cost on a million-dollar home

that's $80,000, it just so happens that the first time that transact on the

blockchain was a million dollar home but instead of having those fees, it was

transacted safely and securely through the blockchain and closing costs were

right around a buck, a dollar, not $80,000 and that's what this new blockchain

technology is doing so all the third-party companies that are out there.

For example, even like American Express and Visa and MasterCard and discover you

know, American Express they charge over 4% when you use their credit card. They

got reward points to pay out, they've got expenses and things like that for

charging those merchant fees but all sudden you and I, we could do a

transaction and we could do it through cryptocurrency and guess what, there's

going to be like a 50 cent percent transaction cost but on ten thousand

dollars it doesn't necessarily need to be hundreds of dollars like it currently

works in today's world. So when we talk about blockchain for dummies, I mean,

really you can get lost in it but it's really just as simple. Remember this, it's

Internet 2.0, it's safe and secure, it's job is to perform transactions by

encrypting and decrypting, the internet instead of hosted by one company with

all their servers in Russia, it's hosted by anyone around the world that wants to

plug their computer in and their computer will hash and do the work and

each of those computers will individually get paid and that was what

makes up the blockchain, all of these different transactions on this ledger,

being recorded, creating trust in a previously very untrustworthy world. I

Opinion | The key to the Mueller investigation is Paul Manafort's life - Duration: 2:52.

When I came to the story of Paul Manafort

and what happened to him in 2016,

his indictments by Special Counsel Robert Mueller,

I brought to that what I know as a novelist.

I've written 10 novels.

I look at these stories, not simply as collections of facts,

but as a narrative in which the human being

is stressed and behaves in ways that are hard to predict.

I found that powerfully true in the case of Paul Manafort.

When he became Donald Trump's campaign chairman

in April of 2016,

he was to outward appearances

somebody on top of the world.

When he left in August 2016, he was a man shattered.

He was suffering severe financial problems personally.

They didn't surface publicly,

but we're able to document in this piece

just how serious they were.

In my narrative, the date August 19 is a crucial one.

On that day, Paul Manafort resigns

as Donald Trump's campaign chairman

at Donald Trump's request.

On that same day, Paul Manafort creates a shell company

called Summerbreeze that over the next few months

receives by my count about $13 million in payments,

in loans, from entities that have some connection,

personal or through the firm, with Donald Trump.

Another interesting thing that I found about Manafort

is that for all of his well-known activities overseas,

it was no secret that Paul Manafort worked in the Ukraine

on behalf of the pro-Russian leader there.

There was no attempt by the Trump campaign

that I've been able to discover to vet him,

to ask the basic background questions

that you ask in almost any kind of work

about people who are coming on board.

This was, as one person said to me, a plug-and-play operation.

They were doing this ad-hoc,

without the usual layers of inquiry, investigation.

So I think that's one reason that 2016 unfolded

in such a chaotic way.

It's important for people to understand

that even if the indictments of Manafort disappear,

the issue of Russia's contacts with the Trump campaign

remains central.

In doing the research for this piece,

I added up six different contacts

that were made by Trump campaign officials,

some senior, some not so senior, through the period in which

Manafort is the campaign chairman,

through the summer of 2016.

So it's not simply a case of Manafort

and Manafort's Russian connections,

but this broad pattern.

And it's the puzzle that I think is at the center

of what Robert Mueller's trying to understand.

What Is microLED? (is it better than OLED?) - Duration: 3:35.

microLed is Probably Something that you've heard at least once in the past few months,

most recently being in the announcement that Apple is planning on Using microLed for their

displays.

But what Exactly is microLed, How does it work and is it any different than the OLED

displays which we are used to?

microLED is a flat-panel display technology first developed by two professors of Texas

Tech University while they were at Kansas State University in the year 2000.

So the tech essentially is a couple years old.

It isn't relatively new but it isn't obsolete either.

microLED displays comprise several microscopic LEDs, which self-illuminate per display pixel

- just like an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panel would, only microLED uses inorganic

material.

This brings the benefit of ultra-low black levels, just like OLED, but with higher peak

brightness.

These tiny LEDs, consist of 3 sub-pixels that can each emit their own light.

The inorganic compound used in the production of microLED panels is called Gallium Nitrade

(GaN), and apart from an improved lifespan, it also offers as much as 30 times higher

total brightness than what OLED can produce.

This also means no burn-in, which is actually a big problem on OLED displays.

Also, I should mention here that microLED displays are much thinner than OLED displays

and therefore we might soon see thinner Smart Tv's and smartphones as time passes by.

There have been no commercial MicroLED products released, but the individual red, green, and

blue LEDs are microscopic.

Therefore more pixels can be fit into a screen and this means that we could see higher resolutions

on displays than we are currently used to.

More outstanding displays and at higher resolutions.

So, the question is :Why Don't We Already Use microLED displays in our devices.

Well, the simple answer is that it is expensive.

MicroLED isn't even all that new, it's just currently extremely difficult and expensive

to produce.

Without Getting directly into the specifics, microLED displays require extreme accuracy

to manufacture, especially since these displays have so many pixels.

Each needs to be calibrated individually and if one wrong step is made then that could

possibly mean an entire batch going bad.

Until production really scales up, MicroLEDs are going to be expensive; some estimates

say three to four times as expensive as OLEDs.

Eventually, if a lot of large-scale MicroLED factories come online and the manufacturing

process becomes more reliable, the cost should drop quite a lot, eventually reaching parity

with OLEDs and potentially even as low as high-quality LCDs.

But that's still a good bit of time away.

That's the same compound responsible for some odors familiar here on Earth, including farts and rotten eggs.

"If an unfortunate human were ever to descend through Uranus's clouds, they would be met with very unpleasant and odiferous conditions," Patrick Irwin from the University of Oxford, one of the study's authors, said in a news release.

On the other hand, the smell could quite literally be the last thing you notice.

"Suffocation and exposure in the -200 degrees Celsius atmosphere made of mostly hydrogen, helium and methane would take its toll long before the smell," Irwin said.

Hi guys as usually its me just an offscreen voice and you are watching review machines.

Today we are going to arrange the battle of the most popular kinds of electric transport.

We'll find out what is better – gyro scooter, gyro wheel or electric scooter.

As you know recently these devices have become very popular, so lets try to figure out if

its just a hype or they deserve its popularity.

By the way all these devices have similar price, they are compact and can be taken to

public transport, but each of them has both pros and cons so I think its going to be an

interesting battle.

But firstly lets speak in a word what you should know about these gadgets.

Nowadays there are a lot of gyroscooters everywhere, but it is interesting if they can be considered

as a real transport or they are just a toy?

There numerous models at the market, but we choose American brand Hovertrack – its good

and reliable devices, but a bit expensive.

All kinds of gyroscooters have the same design.

Two wheels and a board.

When you are standing on the board, the device is controlling your position with the gyroscope.

You incline forward and a scooter moves forward, you incline backward so does a device, in

this way a gyroscooter prevents you from falling.

An average range of the device is about 20 km.

There are two independent sections under your legs, they provide perfect maneuverability,

so you can turn around literally in the spot.

Gyro wheel is very alike a gyroscooter.

It is also based on the gyroscope.

It works absolutely in the same way as a gyro scooter, with the only difference.

There is only one wheel, so you have to balance yourself riding on it.

As a result of such a design we have many advantages, but we also have some drawbacks.

First of all lets find out who accelerates faster!

As you can see the best result is shown by a gyro wheel!

Lets try it again.

And again the gyro wheel is the best here.

Its worth saying that scooter is also fast, but it needs some help of riders legs.

Now lets see the maximum speed.

The gyro wheel is the first.

The result is 28 kilometers per hour.

Then the electric scooter.

29 kilometers per hour.

And the gyroscooter showed only 12 km per hour.

So the best result here is shown by the electric scooter!

Now lets see how they can go uphill.

We have not steep but long ascent.

And it was no problem there for all our devices.

Another very important feature – how compact the device is.

If it is possible to take it with you to public transport.

As you can see its no problem for a gyroscooter and wheel, even is you have only one free

hand.

The wheel is the most compact and besides it has a comfortable handle.

As to the scooter is not so compact, even if it is foldable, but anyway it is possible

to carry it.

Well lets move on.

For example we have some obstacle like this one.

In case of scooters the only way its to carry them by your own.

But the gyro wheel provides more possibilities.

As to the gyroscooter it is not so simple.

It will take about half an hour to get the hang of it and make first rides.

Electric scooter – undoubtedly its awesome city transport.

It's the fastest and the safest.

Even if the motor suddenly stops you don't fall and continue your ride.

It is very simple and doesn't need any training.

The only drawback – it is not very compact, even if it is foldable.

But I liked these device the most.

Gyro wheel – fast and maneuverable transport.

It is the most compact and it is very comfortable to carry it.

The most important advantage it doesn't need absolutely flat ground, it can go on

a grass and on a rough terrain.

IT'S ALL OVER Jeff Sessions Is Done

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is reportedly furious after the House Judiciary Committee

sent a subpoena to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

The Washington Examiner reported that a committee press release stated that the subpoena asked

for documents from the Justice Department and the FBI "regarding charging decisions

in the investigation surrounding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private email

server, potential abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and the FBI's Office of

Professional Responsibility recommendation to fire former FBI Deputy Director Andrew

McCabe."

Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., sent a letter along with the subpoena informing

Rosenstein that the committee had asked for the documents months ago and received little

or nothing in response.

"Given the department's ongoing delays in producing these documents, I am left with

no choice but to issue [a] subpoena to compel production of these documents," Goodlatte

wrote.

A source high up in the Justice Department said yesterday that Sessions has grown impatient

with FBI Director Christopher Wray.

"Senior staff on both sides of the street have met on this and the FBI is getting called

on the carpet," the source said.

"The Attorney General is angry with how slow the process has moved when it comes to

requests from Congress to the FBI.

He's told Wray that the pace is unacceptable and that if the FBI needs to double the number

of people working on this, then that's what they need to do, but he is done seeing the

Department criticized for the FBI's slow walking of requests from Congress like the

last administration when these requests should be a top priority."

Wray immediately issued a press release in which he pledged to double the number of people

working on the document request.

"As the Director of the FBI, I am committed to ensuring that the Bureau is being transparent

and responsive to legitimate congressional requests," Wray stated.

"Up until today, we have dedicated 27 FBI staff to review the records that are potentially

responsive to Chairman Goodlatte's requests.

The actual number of documents responsive to this request is likely in the thousands.

Regardless, I agree that the current pace of production is too slow.

Accordingly, I am doubling the number of assigned FBI staff, for a total of 54, to cover two

shifts per day from 8 a.m. to midnight to expedite completion of this project."

Members of the committee are still skeptical, however.

"Obviously that's a good sign, but I'll believe it when I see it," said Rep. Jim

Jordan, R-Ohio, a member of the committee.

"But as important as getting documents to us in a much more timely fashion is, are they

going to be redacted?

We know in the past that documents we have received have been redacted so much that we

can't figure them out."

Excitement mounts at Säbener Straße the day before the Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid.

Jupp Heynckes led the final pre-match training session on Tuesday –

unfortunately without David Alaba but with Corentin Tolisso, although he's doubtful for Wednesday.

With David Alaba and Corentin Tolisso, we'll decide tomorrow morning if they're in the squad or not.

I'll go through my final thoughts on team selection today

and tell the players who's in the starting line-up tomorrow.

Otherwise, the squad is at full strength with the exception of Kingsley Coman, Arturo Vidal and Manuel Neuer,

The Reds go into the game against Spanish giants with the necessary respect.

They play very good football, have great players, are technically very gifted and

they've been together as a team in this system and with these players for many years –

and you can see that.

For the players and coaching staff it's a very special game against very special opponents.

As players and coaches, these are the games you work towards and prepare for over the whole season.

These are highlights that many coaches will never experience in their careers,

so I obviously know to value them.

Real Madrid landed in Munich on Tuesday morning and are now preparing

for the game in the Bavarian sunshine.

Over the years they've been at the top for a reason, having won the Champions League twice.

But tomorrow we want to lay the foundations for changing that and, if possible, going through to the final.

There's a fantastic mood and atmosphere among the players.

That's the only way you can be successful and enjoy the really big wins.

That's why I'm very optimistic about the two games.
