Hi there.

I am John Bond from Riverwinds Consulting and this is Publishing Defined.

Today I am going to talk about new tools to find and access the best available versions

of scholarly journal articles; legally and at no cost.

There are at least two at this time; Unpaywall and Kopernio.

First Unpaywall is an online widget that crawls the web, searching for free-to-read versions

of paywalled papers.

Unpaywall is a web-browser extension that looks for papers in repositories worldwide,

including preprint services and databases.

Unpaywall indicates when a free version is found, but also lets you know one is not available.

Unpaywall reports that users find fully accessible text for 47% of articles; of course, results

vary.

They access open data from PubMed Central, the Directory of Open Access Journals, Crossref,

and DataCite.

Second is Kopernio.

Kopernio is a browser plugin that finds the best available PDF of a journal article.

Kopernio searches open databases and university subscriptions; if accessible to the user,

to find the best version of the article.

This tool streamlines finding scholarly content by also accessing such sources as Google Scholar,

PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, publisher's platforms, and repositories.

Kopernio does two things.

For materials that the user's library has a subscription, Kopernio ensures that the

they end up at the publisher's version, entering the user's credentials.

For materials that the user's library has not licensed, Kopernio brings the user to

an open version if one is available, such as a preprint or an author deposited manuscript

in a repository.

Kopernio is making news this week as they were acquired by Clarivate Analytics.

Kopernio and Unpaywall prides themselves on not including results from sources of questionable

legality like Sci-Hub, or even ResearchGate.

All of their results are above board, and if they are found out not to be, promptly

removed.

Both tools, and likely others to come, are in a response to the frustration by users

who feel finding appropriate articles is a bit of a maze, particularly when they don't

have access to a federated search tool.

Publishers will appreciate more readers finding their materials and users will feel articles

are more easily accessible; a win all around.

5.Wooden Pot Holder

With a little bit of sweat and imagination,

you can turn weathered wood boards into a pot holder.

Join two boards by adding three small scraps of wood.

Position hose clamps and strap hinges on the boards.

Attach the hose clamps with screws about 16 ½" apart

and place the strap hinges near the top and

bottom of the boards and above 3 inches above the pots.

Drill a hole through the hose clamp and fasten with a screw.

Lean your new pot holder against the window for direct sunlight.

This easy and cheap vertical organizer idea for indoor garden won't take all day to make!

But that's just my assumption

4.Rustic Planter Box

Repurpose scraps of wood you have at home

as a planter box to create an upright fairy indoor garden.

Collect your old wood fences and nail them together to make a square shape.

Don't make the box too big and too small, better go with 30 x 23 x 30 inches wide.

Add a top edge to the planter and nail it in place

and you will have a matching squared corners.

Fill your new planter with large plants or house trees

or you can opt for succulents and moss.

Fill the planter with old Styrofoam so it won't be so heavy

and about 5 inches of soil on top.

Build little legs to allow drainage through the slats in the wood.

3.Hang Your Plants!

Make sure you have a scrap wood and pots (duh! Obviously) ready with you.

Start by placing a pot upside down on the wood.

Mark a square around the pot leaving a 1" bolder on the sides

and cut with a chop saw.

Make two circles where one is ¼" smaller and drill bit the smaller one to create a hole.

Use a jigsaw to cut around the other circle to fit the pot.

Drill a hole in each corner of the wood for the rope to thread through.

Paint the wood then cut four 6 foot pieces of rope and

thread them through the holes

and tie a knot in each rope underneath for your bottom piece.

Tie another knot above the last knot and add the next wood square

and slide it down to rest on the knots you just created.

Repeat this process depending on how many pots you want to hang.

2.Mason Jars for Herb Planters

Make a vertical herb planter with scraps of wood fence and mason jars.

Attach hose clamps to the board with screws and leave 10 inches between each clamp.

Fill the jars with one cup of gravel for drainage purpose.

Add the herbs to each jar and position the jars in each hose clamp

and tighten them with a screwdriver.

Place the vertical planter near a sunny window.

okay today is a really really really special day and I'll tell you a little bit of history:

Exactly a year ago, Daan and I, we were in Colombia in the jungle

and we said; Wouldn't it be cool to start a hostel here?"

Fast forward, six months >

and we were back in Colombia, actually scouting land. Just for fun basically but

we found the perfect plot and we fell in love with it and we said oh my god we're

just gonna buy this. We have no idea how to do this or where we're gonna get the

money from, or what are we gonna do we're just gonna go for it

fast forward three months later and we found these two beautiful gentlemen how

do I say that, who are now actually our business partners. And today's a really

special day as I said because today we're gonna sign the contracts and it's

gonna be official and we're gonna be a business all four of us together and I'm

so grateful so Wilbert and Jeroen maybe you want to share a little bit

about why you want to join this awesome project with us? -Yeah of course! Well a little bit two months,

two months back.. was it two months back? three months back in December Daan stood

up in a crowd in a training and I heard his dream and yeah that really

triggered me and Daan asked for some help on the funding part of this of this

beautiful business and it was it was love on first sight... -And it's cool to be part of your dream.

And when battle for the first buck on facebook is starting

and one buck after another is been killed

your being more eager to shoot!

and suddently the buck is in front of you

what do we do, then?

What are we thinking about, when the buck steps in

Are we thinking about Facebook?

are we thinking: Dont screw this up?

Or do we even think?

and raising the dot and punching the release?

No matter the distance?

The way to practice that is

ill show it

Lets say that i know the distance

I know my sight pin

I know my gab, from my sight pin to the buck

because of my practice sessions

the problem is

that under pressure, when the buck steps in

we are just pulling back and executing the shot without thinking

and afterwards we are thinking

what did actually happen?

when im practicing, both with traditional, and compound

I have a list, im saying to my self

pay attention to my finger

cause

we are suppose to break the shot as a surprise

it can be difficult, when you are hunting

and other times, when we believe the shot is breaking as a surprise

we are often plugging the release, by our self

So when the buck steps in

and the adrenalin is on its highest

Just think about the movement, that makes the shot break

and only that!

Im saying

to my self

draw back and anchor

sight!

attention to the finger

deep hook on the trigger

Actually it is possible to feel how much pressure you can lay on the trigger

even though the trigger is very sensitive

it is possible to lay the finger, and even put pressure on it

without its going off

Just the amount of pressure, so its not shooting

thats what we are going to practice

To make it go off

we have to pull

pull

and thats what we are telling us self

in this way

we are forcing our attention

to the movement

witch brings us to the shot

and the shot will break as a surprise

And the follow through will take care of it self

Lets see if i can do it!

Why am i sitting down?

because!

Often when we are in our ladder stands, or treestands

we are sitting down

Often we are sitting down on a stole with the compound bow

im doing it my self

there isnt a bigger point in practise stand up shooting, when we are sitting down when we are hunting.

and the other way around to!

Try also the face mask, if your using it

shoot with it to

im gonna take a few shots with it later today

Pay attention to string clearence on the clothes

And think about the movement, that brings you to the shot!

Of course you need to know your sight picture

Fx know your gab

or adjusting the sight

you have to know where you want your sight pin first!

Those things need to be in place, before you can think about the movement.

But when you are about to shoot the critter

focus on that movement

witch brings you to the shot

And after we have shot the buck!

then we can think about Facebook again!

when we are going to brag about the buck, we shot!
