Waching daily Sep 7 2017

I found that a useful tool is the sound meditation. So before we begin, I

want you to assess on a scale of 1 to 10 how stressed you are.

how stressed you are.

10 being I am completely stressed out and,

one is I'm completely chill. I feel great,

relaxed, taking everything in stride.

for myself, I'm probably about a 5.

Just make a mental note where you are on that scale of 1 to 10.

We will begin by releasing tension

from our body so start with the double inhale.

Everything tight.

Breathe through the nose and as you exhale release. Beautiful.

Again, double inhale,

everything tight and exhale release.

One more time, double inhale, everything tight

tight tight tight tight.

Exhale. Lengthen the spine, inhale deeply

through the nose and exhale through the mouth.

Let's do that two more times, just

full inhalation, complete exhalation and imagine letting go of all your tension

and stress.

Once more and exhale,

lengthening the spine, softening the shoulders, prepare the body and mind.

Lift the gaze to the point

between the eyebrows as if you're looking at a faraway spot.

You can either keep the eyes open or closed,

whatever makes you comfortable.

If you choose to keep your eyes open,

soften the gaze, focus at nothing in particular, just keep the eyes open.

Draw your attention to the breath.

Make no effort to control your breath.

Let's observe the inhalation.

Observe the exhalation.

Connect with the rhythm and

flow of your breath.

Make your effort to focus on any sound. Soften the ears and

allow sounds to come to you.

Draw your attention to the sounds of humanity,

the sound of my voice,

perhaps you hear other people,

you may hear machinery,

automobiles, air conditioning or heating,

music.

Notice the sounds around you.

Allowing all sounds to come toward you

without filtering.

Gently shift your attention to sounds of nature.

You may hear birds,

insects, the wind in the leaves,

let sounds of nature surround you. Perhaps water sounds?

Again, allowing all the sounds to flow

like waves against the shore, sound waves gently surrounding you.

Then, open your awareness to all of it.

All sounds that surround you. In the center of a

symphony of sounds, allow yourself to experience it.

And, shift your awareness back to the breath.

Make no effort to control the breath,

once again being with the breath, here and now.

Very gently begin to move the fingers, perhaps clenching and relaxing,

opening and closing the fist.

If you'd like to open your eyes and bring yourself back.

Sway gently to one side.

Inhaling, back to Center.

Exhale to the other side.

Inhaling back to center.

And exhale, relax the arms down. Beautiful!

So how would you rate your stress level or

tension level now on a scale of one to ten?

I'm so relaxed. I'm probably a two (2).

Notice if just that simple five (5) minutes of sound meditation

allowed you to shift your energy

into a calmer state of focused attention .

That is an introduction to meditation.

This is a practice that you can do on your own.

I encourage you to set a timer—three (3) minutes is a good start.

Or you can do five (5) and simply focus on the sound that surround you.

And, if you find your mind drifting

elsewhere bring the attention back to the breath.

The breath will always anchor you

in the present moment.

For more information about the benefits

of taking a break such as this during your day,

you can get a free download at my website.

It's www.shirleyarcher.com

It's right there on the screen.

I can point there you go, right there.

I'll also put it the link in the description below.

And, if you like what you see, you can subscribe to my channel.

I would appreciate that!

Until we meet again,

I wish you a happy and mindful day.

thank you!

George Cambridge arrives for his first day of school as dad William steps in for Kate - Duration: 7:11.

George Cambridge arrives for his first day of school as dad William steps in for Kate who is too ill with morning sickness and head teacher warns 'he'll get no special treatment'

PRINCE William escorted his son - who will be known as George Cambridge by classmates - on his first day at school this morning but Kate was forced to miss the landmark day due to severe morning sickness.

The Duchess of Cambridge was not by Georges side while he nervously walked into Thomass Battersea, in south-west London, as the head promised he will get no special treatment.

Prince George was escorted to his first day of school today by his dad, the Duke of Cambridge. They are pictured above with Helen Haslem, head of lower school at Thomass.

The head of lower school, Helen Haslem, greeted the young prince on his first day at school.

He seemed nervous as he held his dads hand and brushed his face with his hand this morning.

Prince George gripped his dads hand tightly as he walked into his new school.   Prince George arrives for his first day at London school.

The prince and his dad were greeted by Helen Haslem, head of lower school, when they arrived at the school gates before being escorted to his reception classroom.

William carried a backpack for George which was labelled George Cambridge - the name he will be known at in the school, Kensington Palace said this morning.

It has been a big week for the royal family, with the announcement of a new baby for Kate and Wills.

Kate has been suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum and waited until the eleventh hour to decide if she could take her son to school - but was ultimately forced to opt out at the last minute due to her sickness.

The four-year-old future king looked smart in his new uniform which included a blue official school jumper with a red logo, blue Bermuda shorts and laceless shoes.

He was driven to £20,000-a-year Thomas's Battersea in Wandsworth from Kensington Palace strapped into a child seat in the rear of the family Range Rover.

George, thought to be one of the youngest in his year, is expected to have a gentle introduction to what is likely to be a tiring first term at school.

Along with his classmates, he will spend the day getting to know teachers, adults and other children as well as completing the important task of finding his classroom peg.

George was unable to be taken to school by his mum as she is still too unwell with morning sickness.

The school places an emphasis on making parents feel secure about leaving their children, with a drinks reception, handbook, and workshops to show them what their reception-year offspring are learning.

Parents are also invited to watch lessons and learn how to help their children with phonics at home.

George and his peers will have been invited to a pre-term party to help them settle in as they get used to lessons and school dinners.

The Duchess, 35, is understood to be devastated to miss out on Georges big moment as she is still too unwell with morning sickness. A source said: She would have done anything to be here.

It's a big day in her son's life but she really has been very sick.

A team of six police officers and several plain clothes police armed with Tasers, mingled in with the crowds while several of Prince Georges own security were also present.

Usually jubilant George seemed understandably nervous about his first day at school.

Going For Broke Truck 2017 - Duration: 1:54.

Going For Broke 2017

For the past three years, The Road Show Productions has brought their Going for Broke Truck and Car Show to the Florence Agriculture Fairgrounds in Florence, South Carolina.

Show promoter Rodney Christianson started the show to bring together the wide array of cultures to one venue and have an outlet for families to enjoy a weekend of events.

We were there to see all that South Carolina had to offer when it came to trucks, and the Palmetto State did not disappoint.

Going for Broke was planned as a throwback-style show that featured many different events and club games including a burnout competition, a water balloon toss and a hydraulic-powered vehicle hopoff.

Although threats of inclement weather threatened to wash out the show, the sky held out until the show was over.

Rodney and his hardworking Road Show crew wish to thank everyone that came and supported Going for Broke including all the loyal vendors and sponsors.

This three-day event was a blast for everyone in attendance and is also a great family friendly outing. Plans are already in the works to bring more fun and excitement to Going for Broke 2018.

For Students: Understanding Your Turnitin Report - Duration: 4:40.

In Sakai, your instructors may use a feature called Turnitin

to check your submitted assignments for plagiarism.

In most cases, instructors allow students to view the plagiarism report,

so in this video, we'll talk about how to access a

Turnitin report and how to interpret the results.

Some instructors also use Turnitin to provide feedback

on your writing, so we'll also look at how to view feedback your

instructor may provide.

So, how will you know when your instructor

is going to use Turnitin?

Well, you'll know Turnitin has been enabled for an assignment

by reviewing the assignment's Description page.

Sakai notifies you that the submission will be sent to Turnitin.

After you submit the assignment, it can take up to 30 minutes

for Turnitin to electronically review the document.

We can check the status of the Turnitin Report

by revisiting the Assignment Description page

by clicking the same link that you used to submit the assignment...

and locating the status icon next to Turnitin Report.

A triangular, yellow status icon indicates the document is

still processing, and you'll need to check back a little later.

A square status icon means the report is ready.

Click the square status icon, and the Turnitin Similarity report appears.

It contains a copy of your submission.

Highlighted areas of the document indicate text

could be plagiarized, until it's been properly cited and quoted.

The panel on the right side of the screen provides access

to the instructor feedback and similarity layers.

Let's take a closer look at the similarity layer;

we'll view instructor feedback a little later in the video.

Click the score appearing in the panel, and the

Match Overview pane appears.

This pane provides information about the highlighted text.

The percentage appearing at the top is the Similarity Score.

In this example, it indicates that 61% of the text in the

submission matches content in Turnitin's database.

The information below the Similarity Score is

a list of sources Turnitin located in its database that contain similar text.

Clicking a source displays a pane that shows the highlighted text

in context within that source.

It's important that you review the information in the

Match Overview pane carefully.

It'll help you determine whether or not your document contains text that

has not been properly cited and quoted.

It's likely your instructor will also carefully review this information.

Your instructor may also use Turnitin to provide you with feedback.

While you can see plagiarism results 30 minutes after submitting your

document, you won't be able to see feedback until after your instructor

has graded your submission and the due date for the assignment has passed.

How can you tell whether your instructor has provided feedback?

After the due date has passed, click the Active Layers button and

check the box next to Grading.

If your instructor has provided feedback, ...

feedback icons appear on the document.

In this example, the screen now looks a little crowded.

Since we're done reviewing the Similarity results, I'll turn off the

Similarity Layer by unchecking the box next to Similarity.

That's better!

Okay, let's take a closer look at the instructor feedback.

Your instructor may use a variety of methods,

such as highlighted text and comments, QuickMarks, and

text strikethroughs to provide you with feedback.

Click a feedback icon to read the remarks.

If you see a speech bubble, pay special attention,

as this means your instructor added a personal message.

It's important to take time to carefully review all of the

feedback your instructor provides here.

It will be useful information to keep in mind as you revise your

document or prepare future submissions.

Here's a couple of tips to help you as review a Turnitin report:

The first time you access a Turnitin report, Turnitin will ask you

to agree to their User Agreement.

Click I Agree – Continue to display the Similarity Report.

Second, if a feedback icon is overlaying text, you can drag it

out of the way.

Third, click the tab on the left side of the screen

to access the thumbnail bar.

From here, you can quickly jump to a particular page in the document.

Click the lock to keep the thumbnail bar open.

[silence]

Okay, I think you're ready to view your own Turnitin report.

We hope you'll find it to be a useful feedback tool.

If you need assistance, please contact sakaihelp@durhamtech.edu.

American Values: Respect for Authority - Duration: 6:28.

hello ladies gentlemen and persons in between my name is Tim Snowborn and

today we're talking about respect for authority on this episode of serious

issues to continue my series on American values I thought today we'd look at

respect for authority which is traditionally a conservative value this

is something conservatives tend to be big on whereas liberals tend to question

authority I think whether or not either side has any respect for authority

depends partly on what kind of authority you're talking about because there's

different kinds of authority first there's the authority of expertise

a person who has a lot of education and/or experience in a given area is

said to be an authority in that area if that's the kind of authority we're

talking about now would argue that conservatives have no problem at all

questioning Authority especially when it comes to climate science and evolution

to be fair I would argue that liberals question scientific Authority - I'm not

trying to draw a false equivalency here most of the anti-science sentiments are

decidedly on the conservative side but if you don't believe me that liberals

are sometimes against science GMOs are safe so are vaccines and you can't cure

cancer by eating the right fruits and vegetables or minerals or supplements or

smoking your weight in weed every day as much as we'd all like to believe that

that's the solution I mean to be fair everyone's inclined to question science

want to tell them something that they don't want to hear even I'm probably

likely to do that and I don't believe that science is a hundred percent

impartial I think science can be swayed by public opinion I don't think we

should assume that the experts are always right but I don't think we should

assume that they're always wrong either then there's the authority of the state

and I'm not talking about police in this case we'll get to them in a minute I'm

talking primarily about the presidency the President of the United States at

the highest authority in America but you may rest assure the Conservatives

question the shit out of President Obama and Clinton liberals of course question

the authority of presidents they don't like - right now we're questioning the

authority of Trump and we questioned the authority of George Bush junior and

senior and so on down the line again everyone's inclined to question

the authority of a politician they don't agree with liberals tend to question

authority because authority can and often is wrong conservatives tend to

think that the law is the law and we should obey it whether it's just or not

but the law isn't always just slavery was the law segregation was the law

prohibition was the law everything in the Patriot Act was the law and yes I

know the Obama administration spied on Americans too no I do not let them off

the hook for that the third kind of Authority the kind of authority that I

think most conservatives are referring to when they say that we should respect

Authority is that of the police and this is the kind of authority that liberals

are most likely to question liberals know that some laws are unjust and are

more likely to resent the people tasked with enforcing them and it's hard to

respect authority when you see so many examples of the authorities abusing

their power I don't want to get off on too much of a tangent here but it's hard

for liberals to respect authority when we see so many unarmed innocent

minorities being gunned down for no apparent reason and then see their

killers walking away with a little more than a slap on the wrist

that causes a lot of resentment and makes people a lot less likely to

respect authority I mean I honestly think that most cops are basically good

and they're just trying to make their communities safer in America a better

place the reason that looks like all cops are bad because the bad ones make

the news and outshine the good ones the cops who are just out there doing their

jobs keeping people safe don't make the news why should they but lots and lots

of attention is given to a cop who murders an unarmed black person as it

should I'm sure not saying that they shouldn't get lots and lots of attention

they should and I'm not saying that police brutality isn't the problem it is

I'm just saying the fact that all this attention is given to the bad cops makes

it look like all cops are bad very little attention is given to the good

cops even though I'd be willing to bet that there's more of those I don't care

how many counter examples you can point to it's like I've said before the reason

it's so easy to point to the bad news and say that the world is going to hell

is because the bad news stands out in such stark contrast against the backdrop

of all the good News and kindness and peace and civility

in the world I think that for conservatives there's kind of a

religious element to this I think centuries ago people thought

that the law came from God and the people who told us the law and were

tasked with enforcing it had divine authority they represented God and the

laws that he gave to us and I think that's still kind of a subconscious

belief among conservatives today I think liberals are fine with obeying

the law if we think the law is just but we're more likely to flout the law if we

see the law is unjust but then I kind of think conservatives are like that too

like I think that conservatives are just as likely to flout laws that they think

are unjust - but they don't see as many laws as being unjust as liberals do I

think the conservatives like order and discipline and I like order and

discipline - but like most liberals I don't assume that the law is always just

and should be followed blindly I think liberals are obviously more

likely to respect scientific Authority and question legal authority and

conservatives are more likely to respect legal authority and question scientific

Authority so tell me what you think do you think respect for authority is

important do you think we should always give the law and those tasked with

enforcing it the benefit of the doubt or should we naturally be skeptical of

those things when do you think it is appropriate to question authority thank
