Is Your Product Owner Lazy or Exhausted? - Ep. 4 - Duration: 2:30.

In this episode, I'm going to apply the concept of distinguishing laziness from exhaustion,

particularly the exhaustion that comes from having to learn a new behavior.

A new behavior that often causes problems for new Product Owners on a Scrum team is

that of keeping the backlog prioritized.

Most of us know the benefits of a well-prioritized backlog.

It provides guidance to the engineers about what is valued most and provides an authoritative

answer to customers about when the upcoming features they value are expected to be available

to them.

But many of us have probably worked with a product owner that seldom has time to keep

the backlog prioritized, leading to confusion among the engineers about what stories take

precedence over others and frustration for customers who don't see their needs being

met.

So what's the problem?

Is the new product owner lazy?

Or is the number of ways to prioritize a backlog and the complexity of this new behavior exhausting

them?

If we assume the former, there is not much we can do other than have a person of authority

tell them to straighten up and fly right.

But if it's the latter, then we can look at how we can reduce the complexity of the choice.

For example, how many different customers does this product owner need to please?

Are there corporate standards about how to prioritize one customer need over another?

Perhaps robustness of the software is considered a corporate priority over whiz-bang features.

If these prioritizes are codified, it simplifies the prioritization process.

It also helps the product owner when there is a direct and obvious relationship between

the stories being prioritized and these corporate objectives.

Stories that don't state the business value they represent are exhausting to try to prioritize.

Stories with clear business value that maps directly to corporate priorities and the customers

that they will please takes away the complexity of the prioritization task.

So the next time you see a backlog with priorities all out of whack again, don't ascribe it to

a lazy product owner, but instead think about what you can do to help your product owner,

whether it be clear corporate priorities or better written stories that state their business

value.

Star Wars Director Rian Johnson Reveals Who the Last Jedi Is - Duration: 3:09.

Star Wars Director Rian Johnson Reveals Who the Last Jedi Is

Oh, whats in a name? If youre naming a Star Wars movie, the answer is a heck of a lot. 23, Lucasfilm announced that the eighth installment in the franchise would be titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

What did that mean? No one knew for sure, though theories were debated across the internet. As it turns out, the answer has been hiding in plain sight since 2015.

Its in the opening crawl of The Force Awakens, director Rian Johnson told The New York Times in an interview published Wednesday. Luke Skywalker, right now, is the last Jedi.

Theres always wiggle room in these movies—everything is from a certain point of view—but coming into our story, he is the actual last of the Jedi.

And hes removed himself and is alone on this island, for reasons unknown. The movie will center largely on Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Rey (Daisy Ridley). Johnson, who picks up where J.J.

Abrams left off, wrote Lukes first line of dialogue since 1983s Return of the Jedi, as the character didnt appear onscreen until the final scene of The Force Awakens.

That was the first thing I had to figure out. Why is Luke on that island? And I didnt have any answers.

But its not like you can just pick anything you want out of the air. I grew up having a sense of who Luke Skywalker is.

It guides you to a very specific path. I know hes not hiding on the island. I know hes not a coward. He must be there for a reason that he believes in, he recalled.

Youre finding a path forward, but there end up being fewer choices than you think. In the first teaser trailer, released in April, Luke told Rey, Its time for the Jedi to end. The line sent fans into a frenzy all over again.

It sounds pretty dire. Thats something that were definitely going to dig into.

The heart of the movie is Luke and Rey. It follows all the other characters, but its real essence is the development of the two of them, the director, 43, teased.

Its absolutely tied up in that question of, What is Lukes attitude toward the Jedi?. When he started work on the film, he naturally assumed Lucasfilm had mapped out the trilogy.

I had figured there would be a big map on the wall with the whole story laid out, and it was not that at all.

I was basically given the script for Episode VII; I got to watch dailies of what J. was doing, Johnson recalled.

And it was like, where do we go from here? That was awesome. Abrams made himself available to answer Johnsons continuity concerns. But those questions only address what these characters want and how they get there, he said.

And its best not to answer everything all at once, anyway. Take the question of who Reys parents are: If you get the information—oh, its that!—who really cares? I know a lot of people care, but its interesting as opposed to impactful.

Now, what is my place in the world? Where do I come from? Where do I belong? O.K., I understand what the weight of that is.

We could play with those questions and their answers to have the biggest emotional impact on these characters. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in theaters Dec. 15.

Why an award-winning sound designer is releasing his life's work - Duration: 2:02.

- My name is Mark Mangini,

and I am a sound designer and supervising sound editor.

Pro Sound Effects was really a company

that was willing to put the time and effort

into the remastering of this library

to present it in a way that we thought

would be most useful to people

who were coming to it uninitiated,

without any reference to it.

Richard and I know every single sound

in that 250,000 sound catalog.

We know those numbers, that's how geeky we are.

But somebody new to this library wouldn't,

and we felt that Pro Sound Effects

would bring a great way of cataloging it and mastering it

in a way that would be most useful to others.

There's so much more engagement with the user

and support, I think,

that you don't see with other sound libraries.

And personally, because I'm an Ambisonics freak,

I was really impressed with their goal

of developing sort of the future of sound libraries.

and Ambisonics is one aspect of that.

We have this fundamental belief in the freshness of sound

delivers the best kind of soundtrack.

It's important to have all these tools at your fingertips,

because for me,

a creative impulse is ephemeral, it's fleeting,

if you don't act on the the creative impulse immediately,

usually it disappears.

If you try to come back to it the next day

when you find the piece of equipment you wanted to use,

you might have forgotten what the idea was,

or you might have forgotten why it felt so profound

the moment you had the idea.

So for me, it's important

to act on a creative impulse immediately,

so we all try to surround ourselves with the tools

that will give us the ability to implement quickly.

And we feel really kind of proud to know

that though we are very near retirement,

the library will now live on in good hands,

and hopefully we will continue to hear those sounds

in movies in the future.

Emery believes Mbappe is ready to take his place in the PSG side | FOOTBAL NEWS - Duration: 3:11.

Emery believes Mbappe is ready to take his place in the PSG side

Kylian Mbappe is set to make his debut for Paris Saint-Germain after head coach Unai Emery declared the teenage sensation ready for action.

Mbappe was unveiled as a PSG player on Wednesday, having arrived from Ligue 1 champions Monaco on an initial loan move that will be made permanent ahead of next season for a reported €180 million.

After starting in Monacos season opener last month, the 18-year-old forward was an unused substitute in the next three consecutive matches amid his impending move to hometown club PSG, but the France international is in line to face Metz on Friday, according to Emery.

He was with the team on Monday and Tuesday but as he played with France, he just made some soft training sessions, Emery said.

He has played, he is in good form, I think he is ready to be in the group and to play with us, and thats what we really want the most.

Mbappe is set to link up with €222m-rated team-mate Neymar and Edinson Cavani in a three-man forward line, though he is likely to take up his place on the wing with the latter occupying the central role.

Emery said: He is an attacking player. We have all the players we want for the attack now.

And we have worked to understand how we want them to play, the positions. We know he can play as the striker first, but he can play on the left wing or even on the right wing.

I have talked with Kylian and we have talked about that, how we want him to play, but always thinking of the team first.

While Mbappe is the man grabbing the headlines heading into the weekend, the manager was pleased with all of his clubs summer business.

Its great to work with all the players, not only Mbappe or Neymar but Dani Alves and [Yuri] Berchiche too, the Spaniard added.

And the players who wanted to stay even if some big clubs tried to make them sign: [Marco] Verratti, Marquinhos, [Julian] Draxler and [Angel] Di Maria.

They decided to stay and its important because it means they think its the best place for them to improve.
