IDLO's Kimberly Brown at Continental Conference for #AccessToJustice - Kigali, Rwanda - Duration: 2:53.

This conference in particular is of great relevance to Kenya and the Kenyan context

in terms of transformation of the Kenyan judiciary.

The Kenyan judiciary embarked on the journey of transformation in 2010,

based on the 2010 Constitution.

Chapter 10 sets out an Article 159, a very strong framework for integration of formal

justice mechanisms, together with alternate dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms.

That includes traditional justice systems as well as ADR and other mediation forms.

We are now six or seven years into implementation of the Constitution in Kenya.

The judiciary has worked two frameworks into implementation of the Constitution, with the

judiciary leadership.

That includes the Judiciary Transformation Framework, together with the Strategic Sustaining

Judiciary Transformation blueprint.

This particular meeting, and what's so critical about sharing lessons around the country,

is the work that's been ongoing around Alternative Justice Systems (AJS) in Kenya.

In particular there is the Alternate Justice Systems Taskforce, which IDLO, we've been

supporting for the last year.

We also have the work of the National Council on the Administration of Justice, which is

a huge collaborative effort, statutory body that allows – it is chaired by the Chief

Justice, of Kenya, but allows for sharing and collaboration across all the justice chain

actors as well as civil society and academia.

But, it is coordinated at the court station level, as well, through the Court Users Committees.

We also have the work with the legal aid reforms that are happening in Kenya.

The 2016 Legal Aid Act set a new tone for how legal aid is being asserted in Kenya.

It is quite an ambitious framework, but considering that the Legal Aid Board was just sworn in

two months ago in Kenya, and also seeing that we are just at the finalization stage of the

National Action Plan and legal aid into five-year plan that essentially is the work plan for

the Legal Aid Board, this meeting and the sharing of lessons, especially around para-legal

networks (around healthy) judiciary can be proactive in terms of providing solutions

for sustainable access to justice is really critical.

One of the things in terms of IDLO's work with the judiciary in Kenya that has been

a huge lesson is also around court-annexed mediation.

For the last year-and-a-half, we 've been supporting the judiciary in the implementation

of court-annexed mediation pilot project.

We've now reached the end of the pilot project and we have come up, there've been so many

lessons learnt and how mediation can be an alternative to the formal justice system process,

and provide a meaningful, a more tangible, a more relatable form of justice especially

in the family and commercial divisions of the judiciary for dispensation of justice.

Johnny Depp puts the luxury ranch he bought for his late mother up for auction

Johnny Depp is selling the Kentucky ranch he bought for his late mother Betty Sue at auction, 15 months after her death.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star bought the luxurious property in Lexington, Kentucky for £735,000 in 1995, and looks set to make a sizeable profit when it sells on 15 September.

The six bedroom, seven bedroom home originally went up for sale in December for $2.9million (£2.2million), although no reserve has yet been revealed for the auction, which has been organised by the Halfhill Auction Group.

Jim Halfhill, the senior auctioneer who is organising the sale, said: Its a gorgeous farm with tremendous potential.

There has been an amazing level of domestic and international interest in this property due to its famous owner. Gary Denton, of Ractor Hayden Realtors, added that it is a beautiful estate with a spectacular location, just two miles from the world renowned Keeneland Race Course..

The sprawling estate sits on 41 acres of land and comes complete with three barns, a guest house, four-car garage and ten paddocks, along with an outdoor swimming pool.

A glimpse inside reveals that it is decorated in a neutral colour scheme, with a large kitchen, an open plan living and dining room, and six spacious bedrooms.

Johnny originally bought the property in 1995, but sold it for $1million (£770,000) in 2001. He then rebought it for $2million (£1.55million) in 2005, and it is thought that Betty Sue lived there the entire time.

While the ranch was a longstanding possession in Johnnys impressive property portfolio, it appears the actor has designed to sell it on after his mother passed away in May 2016.

Johnny has been selling a number of his properties over the past year following both the death of his mother and his divorce from Amber Heard.

Among the homes he has sold are the five luxury penthouses he owned in the Eastern Columbia Building in downtown Los Angeles.

Johnny sold two of the penthouses for £2.4million and £1.9million apiece, with another of the incredible apartments listed for £1.9million in May.
