Destiny 2 REVIEW: IGN, GameSpot and Metacritic scores REVEALED for PS4 and Xbox One game
Destiny 2 REVIEW: IGN, GameSpot and Metacritic scores REVEALED for PS4 and Xbox One game.
DESTINY 2 REVIEWS UPDATE A reminder for everyone that many of the reviews underneath are reviews in progress so may have changed overnight as critics plough more hours into Bungies epic space adventure.
Additionally, theres another review worth looking over published last night from The Telegraphs Sam White. Heres what they had to say about the game: Telegraph That satisfying squeeze of the trigger is something that never lets up.
From pulse rifles to shotguns, Destiny's inimitable moreishness has always been in that slickly refined feedback loop of shooting, moving, reloading, and then shooting some more.
The fact that, in Destiny 2, the moment to moment discovery around that immense sense of power is so much more refined is really promising, and we can't wait to play more of the campaign, dive into Strikes – which only unlock once you've completed the story mode – and get stuck into competitive action in the Crucible.
So far, so great, then. Stay tuned for more review updates. Destiny 2 was finally released last night around the world in an epic launch that saw millions of players jump into the brand new Bungie adventure.
Already some of the games most dedicated Guardians are exploring the new worlds, discovering lost sectors and unlocking some sweet exotic gear and weapons.
But not everyone will have pre-ordered the game, or picked it up at midnight on release day. Some more casual PS4 and Xbox One players might want to know what some of the critics think of the game first.
NEED A GUIDE? Destiny 2 Classes, Subclasses, Exotics list, Vendors, Weapons, Armour and more EXPLAINED here Especially given how rocky the first games campaign was, due more in part to a lack of story than anything else.
But with a game SO big and packed with things to do its unlikely there will be any review scores for some time, at least not in the opening day or two at least.
So with this in mind, weve pulled together some key impressions from the many reviews in progress, from IGN, GameSpot, Eurogamer and more. Theres a link to each site as well should you wish to understand more of their assessment of the game, but the below should hopefully give fans a good overview of what the critics think so far.
IGN My initial impressions leave me with more questions than answers.
Is the story going to stay engaging through the end? Are the great drops going to get stingier at higher levels? Am I going to get bored exploring the new destinations? We'll have to answer those hanging questions later, but based on what I've experience so far, Destiny 2 hasn't disappointed my high expectations as a fan of the original.
There have been deliberate steps to improve the moment-to-moment experience, be it something as simple as bringing up the next task with the press of a button or by keeping you constantly climbing the Light ladder without realizing it with enticing dynamic events.
That's all on top of a story the team at Bungie knew they had to get right after the convoluted mess of the first game which forced you to read Grimoire cards on a website to experience the original story.
So far it seems as though they've succeeded. GameSpot Ive spent around 20 hours playing Destiny 2, covering the majority of the story missions, dozens of side activities, a Strike, and a handful of rounds in the Crucible.
I still have a lot more to go, and Ill be documenting my progress over the next few days as I play more.
So far, Destiny 2 builds on the original in smart ways that make me excited to keep playing. My first impression of Destiny 2 was that it was barely distinguishable from the first game.
The things I loved about Destiny--the exhilaration of nailing a precision kill, the satisfaction of shooting each weapon--and things I didnt like as much, namely its inherently repetitive nature.
But the more I played, the more I noticed that some of Destinys other problems have been fixed. GamesRadar Destiny 2 is bigger, better, and more beautiful than ever.
I could have spent a paragraph talking about the skies alone. Endless side quests and activities, a thrilling campaign and slick PvP are only the beginning of what's on offer..
Polygon At the very least, what I've played of Destiny 2 is an incredibly promising start. In plain English, it feels like Destiny without all the bullshit.
It seems like the sequel Bungie needed to make — not a fundamentally different experience, but improved enough over its predecessor to reel veterans back in and attract people who skipped the original Destiny.
Now we have to see how it holds up.
Metro GameCentral It's not hard to imagine a much more ambitious version of Destiny 2, but it's also hard to deny that the mixture of perfectly tuned action and endless loot farming works just as well as ever.
Destiny 2 is a refinement, not a revolution, but everyone knew that months ago. And if you weren't put off by that prospect before you certainly won't be once you get your hands on the final game.
DualShockers When I sat down to play this game I had one mission for Bungie: prove to me that Destiny 2 isn't just another expansion.
Thankfully, it turns out that Destiny 2 has listened to the fans and has taken a look in the mirror: the product is one that I –so far– thoroughly enjoy.
Attack of the Fanboy One thing that's not really debatable is the level of quality found throughout the game, first in terms of presentation aspects like visuals, art-design, sound quality and soundtrack. Destiny 2 absolutely shines here.
Each world feels unique, with hidden pockets of cave systems and unique art. Sound always feels pitch perfect for the situation whether on an exploration or tense firefight.
Destructoid Destiny 2 doesnt necessarily feel like a full sequel as much as an improved expansion, but thats not a bad thing if you just wanted more Destiny.
So far Im enjoying myself despite its shallowness at times, but keep in mind that it remains to be seen just how grindy the endgame is.
Thats something Ill be taking a look at closely as I prepare for my full review, but only after Ive maxed out (level 20) my Warlock!.
PlayStation Universe Destiny 2 is not the long-awaited mythical game that fans wanted the original Destiny to be.
It improves upon some basic functionality issues the first game had and throws in a little bit of extra spice for good measure, but does not make nearly the jump we hoped would be made in a sequel.
PlayStation LifeStyle Even as much as the story experience has been improved, and many quality of life changes have been implemented, Destiny is all about the endgame.
If you aren't concerned at all about the endgame content, my recommendation is to get Destiny 2 right now.
If your hestitation was on story, whether it changed enough from the first, or any other number of small quality of life things, rest assured that Bungie listened to their players and Destiny is better than it's ever been.
Twinfinite The first game was known for not getting good until you already invested dozens of hours. Something that, for me at least, is not the case with Destiny 2.
That doesn't mean I won't hit a wall and find something that I strongly dislike. But for now, for all the hours I've put in, I've had a heck of a good time.
USgamer Destiny 2 doesnt necessarily feel like full sequel to Destiny, but it doesnt need to. So far, whats here is fun and engaging.
As I polish off the Story Campaign, partake in the current elder game, and await the unlocking of the Raid next week, Im having fun.
I dont know if it stands up to the best MMOs yet, but Im liking what Im seeing so far.
