That Vanity Fair shoot is Meghan Markle's message to the world about what kind of princess she'll be

They're experts at portraying a very scripted story, at stepping into the shoes of well-crafted characters to convey the message perfectly.

And that's exactly what Meghan Markle did with her stunning Vanity Fair photo shoot, released yesterday, body language expert Louise Mahler said. "Let's make it clear, actresses know what they are doing," Dr Mahler said.

With this series of pictures, the girlfriend of Britain's Prince Harry — fifth in line the throne — wasn't merely smiling for the camera.

She was sending a very clear message to the world about what kind of princess she'll be should the pair wed, as onlookers expect they will. Meghan Markle poses for Vanity Fairs October 2017 cover shoot. Picture: Peter Lindbergh for Vanity Fair.

Markle's poses, her hair and make-up, the type of clothing she's wearing and even what she does with her lips are all part of a deliberate message, Dr Mahler believes.

"I think the image aimed for here is one of youth and sexuality, but to still by shy and couth — as in, cultured, refined and well mannered," she said of the shoot.

"The youth and sexuality is expressed in a flexible body, bare feet, modern clothing and hair.

"There is a lot of 'hair acting'. Oh, to have that much tussled hair. In every photo she is either playing with it, or it is across her face — mysteriously.

"The postures, however are quite composed and shy. In one image, she crosses her body with her hands shyly and sits balanced on her tippy toes. It's very vulnerable and very sexy, but shy and not overt.".

In one frame, where the Suits star sits on a chair dressed in trousers and a crisp white button-up blouse, Dr Mahler said it's a mix of conventional and unconventional messaging.

"The conventional part is that her feet are on the ground and facing the same direction and her hands are asymmetric, which are good rules for a seated position," she said.

Meghan Markle has posed for a photo shoot with Vanity Fair magazine.

Body language expert Louise Mahler believes Meghan Markle's shoot for Vanity Fair sends a clear message. "Her face is also neutral with relaxed lips. If you took the face in isolation it could be a corporate pose.

"The unconventional part is the leaning forward with the low-cut blouse and tussled hair with fingers fiddling. With that striking cover shot, Dr Mahler describes it as "just right".

"The key thing is the lips — parted to show a relaxed jaw, but not sexually pouted. The eyes are straight ahead, the expression is alert, but neutral.".
