Are you wondering if civil engineering has a good future?

It is a good situation for you leading forward.?

In this video we're talking about three key reasons why I believe it is the case coming

up right now.

Hey 1% nation, I'm Jake Voorhees and you were watching Episode 042 of the 1 % Engineer show.

Where empower young engineers to rise to the top 1% of their career.

If you're a young engineer, make sure you subscribe, because I release videos three

times per week on engineering success.

And if you have a specific question about succeeding in engineering.

Comment below and I can make you a video just on that.

All of you know I myself am a civil engineer and I'm going to weigh in on this topic and

a lot of this video has to do with what just happened in the United States last weekend.

Hurricane Harvey smashed into the Houston metropolitan area creating ridiculous amounts

of damage and affecting literally millions of people.

And that is reason number one why I believe civil engineering has a good future.

Natural disasters will always plague our major cities no matter where we are in the world.

And we will have to repair and maintain our infrastructure for ever.

Even if we see no more population growth and no more advanced technologies into infrastructure

and buildings and bridges and theirs and everything like this we will still need to repair.

We will still need to maintain and we cannot control what happens via hurricanes and mudslides

and tornadoes and forest fires they will always always destroy the stuff we have built because

Mother Nature is a ridiculous force of energy and there is no way to avoid it.

And I do want to talk a lot about Harvey and the engineering ramifications that a storm

that an event like this has on our country on our cities like Houston.

Most of the Houston area received over 40 inches of rain and in some cumulation areas

fifty two inches of rainfall.

We're talking about the greatest storm that Texas has ever seen.

And Harvey has set records for the most precipitation a cyclone has ever dumped on the contiguous

United States ever.

Seventeen thousand rescues were made.

Over 30000 people were displaced from their homes and over 60 people have died so far.

It is a tragic tragic very very sorry event.

I cannot believe what has happened there in Houston.

So my prayers go out to all the families all the people who have been affected by this.

I do know some engineers who are actually living in Houston right there.

My buddy Max Schmidt is safe and well so I'm so so happy.

I've been thinking of him this entire time.

And hats off to all of you.

Engineers down there in Texas.

And Martin and Fernando symbiotes you guys are down there you're not in the Houston area

but you are in Texas and I know you're doing everything you can to raise funds and support

the area.

So thank you guys for that.

But the reason why this is very significant for this video is that it's not just Houston

that is seeing crazy flooding right now or the rest of the summer here in 2017.

Bangladesh and India the death count is now up to 12 hundred people due to flooding this

year.

Nigeria has seen a displacement of about 100000 people.

Nepal has had.

Eighty thousand homes damaged and around 140 deaths.

Sierra Leone has seen mudslides that have killed over 500 people this summer.

So it's not just Texas guys all around the world we are seeing insane natural disasters.

I'm not going to start talking about global warming.

I'm not going to start talking about designs to prevent these.

What I do want to talk about is the fact that civil engineers and engineers in general are

required to repair and maintain this infrastructure.

So I really do believe that me as a civil engineer and job security is strong because

of this we're always going to have to clean up what Mother Nature has done.

We're always going to have to fix the things so this alone natural disasters is a massive

massive reason why we're always going to need people like me around people like civil engineers.

All of you 1 percent civil engineers so I believe that the industry is strong.

So that's the main purpose for this video to talk about Harvey and to talk about yes

in this huge tragedy we do see death and I am very sorry to witness this but engineers

have to go and clean up the rubble and fix things and get society back to normal and

fix these roads and with the support of FEMA save as many people's homes as we possibly

can and continue to save as many people's lives as we possibly can.

But we have to clean up dust ourselves off and rebuild.

And that's where the engineers come in.

We will see a huge amount of projects bikes and infrastructure development in that area.

So we just need to get back to work.

The second reason why civil engineering has a strong future is that we see about 80 million

new people on this planet each year we're growing at about 1.1 percent.

Population growth per year on the planet is peaking and about 1960s we're talking post-World

War II era when things were positive in the world and money was flowing very freely.

But still we're adding 80 million people per year.

So more buildings more roads more cars more jobs more everything has to occur.

So we will continually have to build.

And this means more for civil engineers which is job security guys and resume are three

was civil engineering has a good future is that we're always coming out with new technologies

new procedures new ways of producing steel and concrete blocks in our 3-D printing buildings

and things like this.

So we are constantly in this perpetual cycle of things falling into obsolescence things

becoming older and we need to use new techniques we need to use new technologies we need to

deploy new ways of creating bridges and creating buildings.

So we're constantly in a situation where we need to sweep away old techniques and gradually

build better buildings better bridges better infrastructure in general.

So not only do we have population growth not only do we have crazy natural disasters that

destroy things and we have to rebuild.

We're always looking for opportunities to build things better than before.

So it will be stronger safer last longer and everything like this guys.

So those are the top three reasons why civil engineering has a good future.

If you're a civil engineer or you're an engineer in general comment below and let me know what

you think about this video what you agree with what you disagree with.

And if you like this video guys if you're a young engineer make sure you subscribe because

I release videos three times per week for engineering students success.

Thanks for watching the 1% engineer show guys stay hungry on your quest on the water.

Carol is Revealed | Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) Movie Clip - Duration: 2:24.

Are you out of your corn-fed mind?

You're not actually going to listen to this guy?

He killed Pike, he almost killed you,

and now you think it's a good idea to pop open a torpedo

because he dared you to.

Why did he save our lives, Bones?

The Doctor does have a point, Captain.

Don't agree with me, Spock. It makes me very uncomfortable.

Perhaps you, too, should learn to govern your emotions, Doctor.

In this situation, logic dictates...

Logic? Oh, my God! There's a maniac

trying to make us blow up our own damn ship and...

That's not it. I don't know why he surrendered,

but that's not it.

Look, we're gonna open a torpedo. The question is how.

But, Jim, without Mr. Scott on board,

who exactly is qualified

to just pop open a four-ton stick of dynamite?

The Admiral's daughter appeared to have interest

in the torpedoes and she is a weapons specialist.

Perhaps she could be of some use.

What Admiral's daughter?

Carol Marcus. Your new science officer

concealed her identity to board the ship.

When were you going to tell me that?

When it became relevant. As it just did.

Are the torpedoes in the weapons bay?

Loaded and ready to fire. What are they?

I don't know. That's why I forged my transfer

onto your ship to find out why.

I do apologize for that.

By the way, if I caused you any problems, I am sorry.

I'm Carol Marcus.

- James Kirk. - Torpedoes.

My father gave me access to every program he oversaw,

then I heard he was developing these prototype torpedoes.

When I went to confront him about it, he wouldn't even see me.

That's when I discovered the torpedoes had disappeared

from all official records.

And then he gave them to me.

You're much cleverer than your reputation suggests, Captain Kirk.

I have a reputation?

Yes, you do. I'm a friend of Christine Chapel's.

Christine, yes. How is she?

She transferred to the outer frontier to be a nurse.

She's much happier now.

That's good.

You have no idea who I'm talking about, do you?

What are we doing in here?

Is this shuttle prepped to fly?

Of course it is.

- Would you please turn around? - Why?

Just turn around.

It's too dangerous to try and open

one of these torpedoes on the Enterprise.

But there is a nearby planetoid.

I can open one up there.

But I will need some help.

Turn around.

Now!

"My Name Is Khan" Scene | Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) Movie Clip - Duration: 4:03.

Why is there a man in that torpedo?

There are men and women

in all those torpedoes, Captain.

I put them there.

Who the hell are you?

A remnant of a time long past.

Genetically engineered to be superior

so as to lead others to peace in a world at war.

But we were condemned as criminals, forced into exile.

For centuries we slept,

hoping when we awoke, things would be different.

But as a result of the destruction of Vulcan,

your Starfleet began to aggressively search

distant quadrants of space.

My ship was found adrift. I alone was revived.

I looked up "John Harrison."

Until a year ago, he didn't exist.

John Harrison was a fiction created the moment I was awoken

by your Admiral Marcus to help him advance his cause.

A smokescreen to conceal my true identity.

My name is

Khan.

Why would a Starfleet Admiral

ask a 300-year-old frozen man for help?

Because I am better.

- At what? - Everything.

Alexander Marcus needed to respond to

an uncivilized threat in a civilized time

and for that he needed a Warrior's mind.

My mind.

To design weapons and warships.

You are suggesting the Admiral

violated every regulation he vowed to uphold

simply because he wanted to exploit your intellect.

He wanted to exploit my savagery.

Intellect alone is useless in a fight, Mr. Spock.

You... You can't even break a rule.

How would you be expected to break bone?

Marcus used me to design weapons.

To help him realize his vision of a militarized Starfleet.

He sent you to use those weapons.

To fire my torpedoes on an unsuspecting planet.

And then he purposely crippled your ship

in enemy space, leading to one inevitable outcome.

The Klingons would come searching

for whomever was responsible,

and you would have no chance of escape.

Marcus would finally have the war he talked about.

The war he always wanted.

No. No.

I watched you open fire

in a room full of unarmed Starfleet officers.

You killed them in cold blood!

Marcus took my crew from me.

You are a murderer!

He used my friends to control me.

I tried to smuggle them to safety

by concealing them in the very weapons

I had designed,

but I was discovered.

I had no choice but to escape alone.

And when I did, I had every reason to suspect

that Marcus had killed every single one

of the people I hold most dear.

So I responded in kind.

My crew

is my family, Kirk.

Is there anything you would not do for your family?

Proximity alert, sir!

There's a ship at warp heading right for us.

- Klingons? - At warp?

No, Kirk.

- We both know who it is. - I don't think so.

It's not coming at us from Kronos.

Is Google Drive the new 'Pirate Bay'? | Med Mart Tv - Duration: 2:00.

Google drive is essentially known to store important files with its cloud service used to share documents or pictures of sizes that

exceed the Gmail limit. Turns out this is not all that Google Drive is being

used for. Some users have started using the cloud service

for illegal file sharing much like what famed Torrent sites like PirateBay and KickassTorrents used to do before they were shut down.

Users have found a substitute to the torrent sites in Google's sharing platform.

They hide behind the protection of Google and utilise the 15GB of free storage to share famous TV shows such as Game of Thrones, a practice

which gathered pace after the crack down against illegal torrent websites.

According to Gadgets360, copyright holders filed almost 5,000 requests in August for Google to pull material from Drive which was considerably more

than the requests made for file-hosting site MEGA (100) and Dropbox (12).

Hosts have diversified the manner they share files in as along with uploading entire video files they are also adding unlisted YouTube links.

Essentially, the unlisted links don't enter the radar as they are less likely to be spotted by automated

systems and therefore less likely to be pulled. Combining this into one Drive and sharing it over social media under the emblem of Google is like

passing around a secret diary containing the listings for all your favorite pirated content in a polished briefcase.Speaking to Mashable, Google

stated what it thinks of this development. "Google Drive has a variety of piracy counter-

measures in place and we are continuously working to improve our protections to prevent piracy across all of our products," according to a

spokesperson. One thing is for sure, Google didn't quite expect

that their cloud sharing service would be utilised in such a manner and now face a paradox on how to deal with it.

Had Torrent sites not been facing a major crackdown, hosts would probably not have

turned to Google for cover. This article originally appeared on Mashable.
