Here's How To Store Your Garlic And Onions So They Last For Months! - Duration: 3:13.

Here's How To Store Your Garlic And Onions So They Last For Months!

Lots of people tend to buy garlic and onions in large amounts.

Sadly, they end up throwing it up because they have spoiled before even getting the

chance to use it.

If you are one of those people, this short article is perfect for you.

It provides some ideas about preserving these products and make them last much longer.

As soon as you notice the little green sprout on the top of the garlic or a little mold

on the onions, it means that they have already gone bad.

This is the perfect timing in case you plan to plant them.

However, the majority doesn't plan to grow them and use the only for eating instead.

You will need the following ingredients in order to store the garlic and onions, so that

they might last longer.

Brown Lunch Paper Bags Paper Clips (used to keep the bags closed).

A hole punch.

Instructions: The first thing you need to do is to punch

the bags.

You can do this to your preference or all the way to the upper half of the bags.

Fold a few times and after that punch in a row, while leaving a space of 1 inch between

the punches.

The final result is having multiple rows of holes.

The other way of doing this is by holding the bag lengthwise and punching along one

of the sides.

After that, you need to flip the folded bag over and punch the bag along the other edge,

approximately 1 inch between the punches.

Don't bother if the holes are perfect or not since they serve for ventilation only.

Then, fill the bag up to the half full and fold it over the top, while labeling it and

paper slipping it with the top down.

The holes that you will punch will make air circulate around the veggies, and the bag

will serve to protect the garlic and onions and make them last for longer period of time.

You can still keep the onions and garlic in the same drawers you have normally done before.

Nevertheless, make sure not to crowd them.

You can use regular plastic bags in order to keep the bags upright and make adequate

room for the air to distribute.

Place the bins on cabinet shelves or pantry.

There are different factors that contribute to the effectiveness of this method.

Whether the garlic and the onions will last longer or not depends on the light conditions,

the temperature and the humidity of the storage place.

ADDITIONAL TIPS:

No Potatoes Close To Your Onions And Garlic The potatoes release gases that will make

the onions and garlic go bad quicker.

Make sure you do not keep these two ingredients in the same drawer.

No Closed Plastic Bags An open paper or plastic bag is absolutely

a better idea.

The thing is, if you store these ingredients in closed bags, there won't be enough air

and the absence of air will cause faster spoiling and sprouting.

No Refrigerating Do not refrigerate the onions and garlic,

rather store them in a dark and dry place, such as basement.

The cold temperature in the refrigerator will just soften the onions and will also give

off their flavor to the rest of the products in the fridge.

Early Warning Intelligent System for Road Transportation Risks (2015-RO-TM-0435-W) - Duration: 13:33.

MARIA GRIGORE (Secretary of State - Ministry of Transport)

From the beginning, I want to wish you good luck. I understood that you have a lot to recover

After discussions with the project manager, Mr. Robert Dobre, who I want to thank for the invitation,

I understood that the result will be an informatic platform, with both static and dynamic database.

It is best to let the project manager to explain and to present the project.

It is an effort for the Ministry of Transport. I want to thank to our present colleagues

Mr. Criastian Radu from IGSU (General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations) and Mrs. Mateescu from ANM (National Meteorological Administration).

We had a discussion before and we have all their support.

There will be an interinstitutional protocol between Ministry of Transport and ANM for the data

necessary to achieve this informatic platform.

I can not wait to have the app on my phone

To be warned early regarding the risks on the network road

ROBERT DOBRE (Project manager)

Even if we are at the Ministry of Transport, it is not the Ministry of Transport project

and we will not see it like this, it is a project with major benefits for each of us

and for the users of the European TEN-T Network, but especially for the road transport network management.

I'm not going to call it a project, I'm going to call it a challenge because, unfortunately, we started with a delay

An objective delay because it was difficult to set up the project team in a legal framework.

We have succeeded in the last two months with the support superiors and of our colleagues from the Ministry of Transport.

I said it is a challenge, because it is an difficult activity. We are talking about 3000 km of road network

highways and national roads, the TEN-T Core Network from Romania, which involves several activities

I will introduce you very quickly to the theme of the project and I will let our guests to continue the discussion

who are partners at the data level provided in this project.

Very briefly, there are some slides

which I would like to introduce to you.

This project is co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) instrument from European Commission

and overlaps with the European road network in Romania, especially on East East-Med and the Rhine-Danube network, on the TEN-T Core Network.

It covers the whole area of Romania at the level of development regions

In this map, in detail, we also notice the development of the motorway network.

We will go both on highways and on national roads in both directions.

I will briefly outline the purpose and objectives of the project

We'll start by collecting spatial data along the road network.

We will integrate these spatial data into a GIS (Geographical Information System) module at 100 meters detail

So, if we think about it, it will be practically 100 meters multiplied by 3000 km, each of these sectors will be divided

and will receive information that (National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration) CNAIR and (Center for Road Engineering and Computer Science) CESTRIN currently have.

We started to identify the most important constraints along this network

Starting with the geomorphological, climatic, meteorological and road accidents - related constraints along this network.

The data we already have are predominant geomorphological and here we are talking

about heavy snowfalls, floods, landslides, rock falls and avalanches.

We are actually interested in the intersection of these geomorphological processes with our road network.

Also, we will integrate in our platform, the climatic data

at code alert level or at nowcasting level. Stages of the project are advancing and we had to start the project in October 2016

we are 10 months late, but we are trying to overlap some stages. We will try and hope to manage to attenuate this delay.

One of the very important activities of the project is in the second part. There will be the realization of a consistent informatic platform with two modules

A module for users, for Android, iOS or Windows phone

Or for a desktop or laptop terminal, but on the other hand, a multiple-data management module.

with real-time data that can be accessed by the Ministry of Transport, CNAIR, ANM, IGSU and by all those who can manage a risk situation.

This is in short the way we think. We will access the data from our partners and we need to homogenize this data.

The European Commission wants, at a later stage, if this project works well, to extrapolate this kind of methodology

for cross-border sections, so data sets need to be compatible with other countries data and here we speak about Datex II.

It is a pilot approach because we are trying to homogenize and transpose this data into a single center or a single core.

ELENA MATEESCU (the head of ANM)

Regarding your initiative, I can only congratulate you and thank you for the invitation and

it will certainly be an honor for us to be partners. Regarding the possibility to provide you our data

I have already discussed with the Mrs. Secretary of State. We will create that partnership agreement on the basis of which

the ANM's attributions, besides elaborating the general meteorological forecasts and warnings and immediate severe weather warnings the nowcasting type,

I think you should also have a map of the types of risk with impact on road infrastructure within the project.

I am referring here also on the basis of Regulation No. 557 through which the Ministry of Transport is the lead authority

with regard to emergency management and regulation creation, and the ANM issues those codes for heavy and massive snowfalls snowfalls.

I think a map of these types of risk, a map based on historical data to know the risk routes

for blizzard phenomenon in the winter months or abundant precipitation in the winter months that lead to massive snowfall

which can block roads. This decision is also shared with IGSU in terms of risk types management

it would help us to create those high-risk routes at the application level because you were talking about different risk levels starting from major risk to moderate risk.

I believe that the experience we have had in the RO-RISK project coordinated by IGSU

where nine types of risk were identified, including landslides and maps at the administrative-territorial unit (UAT) level.

I think they can be very useful for this informatic platform, at least for the high-risk climatic phenomena on the road transport infrastructure.

As for general warnings and nowcasting, we have already discussed, based on our experience

we will also have an aplication that I told you about, you will see it on September 6th and then it can be used as model

A map of types of risk in terms of road transport areas from the perspective of extreme climatic events it is useful.

When we have the agreement, we certainly do not have the issue of not providing you with the information you need.

CRISTIAN RADU (the Head of the IGSU)

I want to tell you that IGSU appreciate such an initiative. It is certainly necessary, given the operational context

currently present in Romania, characterized unfortunately by the exponential growth in the last years of the number

of traffic accidents and unfortunately materialized in the loss of very large number of human lives.

In this context, it is clear that such a project will definitely reduce the response time of the institution which I represent.

It can only be a benefit and I can only say that

our full availability to be part of the implementation of this project.

I was talking about road accidents recorded on the national road network and highways in Romania

unfortunately, from 2013, we have so far recorded a 70% increase in road accidents

so we have deployed specific actions and missions to limit the consequences

but also to save lives in over 10,200 road events.

It is clear that a reduction in response time may speed up the concentration of forces in these cases.

For us and for the citizen at the same time, a great benefit.

I repeat, we are completely open to be part of the implementation of this project.

We will work together and provide you with the data we produce and centralize

and we will hopefully see as soon as possible the beneficial results of the project. Thank you!

CESTRIN: I would also like to propose to you, to collaborate with the Geological Institute of Romania, because they have maps

very well set up with the maximum risk areas for landslide.

This is a suggestion, it is up to you decide if their help will be necessary.

ROBERT DOBRE: We thank you very much!

MARIA GRIGORE: Let's go to work! Good luck!
