How to prepare for a hurricane | hurricane preparedness tips! - Duration: 6:13.

Hey everybody! Karin Carr here, owner of GeorgiaCoastHomes.com. I'm a realtor in Savannah, Georgia and today

We are going to talk about how to prepare for a hurricane

So let's get started. Tip number one - if they tell you to evacuate

Please do it. I can't tell you how many times we see on the news

Somebody that had three days worth of warning

And yet they had to be rescued by boat from the top story of their house because they refused to leave.

Wouldn't you rather get in your car and drive four hours away and spend the night in your car and drive home and find out

That nothing happened to your house

Than have to be airlifted from your roof because the water was 20 feet high?

So if they tell you to evacuate it's with darn good reason - take it seriously.

Tip number two - get a generator. My husband wants to buy a generator really really bad

And we haven't done it yet because we are still looking for the right one that doesn't cost thousands of dollars.

But to have generator plugged in so that if you had to evacuate for two or three days

You don't come home and all of the food in your fridge and freezer have gone bad

You've got to throw it all away. For no other reason

I just want to be able to keep the food cold so that when we get back to our house if we had to evacuate

We wouldn't lose all that stuff.

Tip number three - have a go-bag. So FEMA says that you need to have a gallon of water per person

In your family to last you for three days.

So if you've got a family of four you need to have at least four gallons of water.

You need to have food that can be just eaten out of a box that doesn't necessarily need to be heated.

If you're military go load up on MREs.

You know cans that can be easily opened.

Boxes, stuff like that so have all of that stuff packed in a suitcase or a big cardboard box ready to go so that if

You are told to evacuate you just have to grab that box and go.

Also in that go bag have flashlights, batteries,

formula, diapers, if your child has a favorite toy that they can't sleep without,

the bare necessities, perhaps a battery-operated radio

Or have you ever seen those radios that has like a little crank so that it doesn't use any electricity?

Just so that you can monitor the situation back home and see what's going on. So you know when it's time to return.

Tip number four is to bring in anything outside

that would be considered a projectile. Even your garbage cans... if there are strong winds those garbage cans are gonna

Go flying and the last thing you want is for that to go soaring right through your living room window, so bring in toys, lawn chairs,

The garbage cans anything that normally sits outside your house. Just bring them in stick them in the garage before you head out.

Tip number five is to go get one of those

Plastic containers with an airtight lid and put all of your personal documents in it - so your birth

certificates, your passports,

Insurance policies would be good too because if heaven forbid your house is

damaged and that stuff gets lost

You know this way you've got a hard copy and it's with you. It's in on your person

you could put that tub up in the attic but you know you just never know what if a tree falls on the house and

Then there's a hole and the attic fills with water, so let's just take that tub with you when you evacuate.

Tip number six - if you have enough advance warning and you can cover your windows before you take off be sure to use plywood,

Not OSB, to cover your windows.

I'm gonna include a link right down below to the FEMA website where they tell you exactly how to go about

covering your windows and doors if you need to evacuate.

And last but not least - have a plan. If you live in an area that is prone to

Hurricanes or torrential downpours, and this is something that on an annual basis. You know you may be forced to deal with

Have a plan in advance. If there is this huge storm next weekend. Where are you gonna? Go? Do you have friends that live in

Atlanta that you could go visit? Do you have friends that live in... I don't know,

Birmingham ,Alabama that are a couple of hours away, but that are not going to be in the path of the hurricane perhaps.

Can you talk to them and find out - hey, if we had to evacuate could we come to your house?

Nobody wants to go to a hotel and spend

$100 a night for four nights if they don't have to. If you've got a friend

That's got a guest room, and they will gladly take you in... all you've got to do is ask.

Worst case scenario you need to find a shelter. FEMA has a mobile app that you can download to your phone.

So go download it now. I'm gonna include the link right down below.

Download that app and it allows you to find the nearest shelter to where you are . So

Now you know how to prepare for a hurricane. But will you do it?

Yes! Start doing it. On the way home from work today

Stop at the grocery store and buy a couple jugs of water. Buy a few boxes of dry cereal.

Buy a package of batteries for your flashlights.

Over the weekend start putting together your go-bag. Just have this stuff as a work in progress so that if by chance...

Hurricane Irma is now being forecasted. We don't know where exactly it's gonna hit

It's still way out at sea, but what if it's coming our way?

At least this way you'll start having your stuff together

And you don't have to wait until the very last minute and then head to the supermarket

And there's a complete frenzy, and there is no more bottled water because everybody's bought it all.

The whole key to hurricane preparedness is

preparedness.

A formula for investing - Duration: 1:40.

Ok so that's two separate questions.

What my best investment advice, and is there a formula?

If there's a formula I hope I can find it because I'm a financial advisor.

My best investment advice is something totally different.

Let me see if I can weave both of those two into one answer, so a formula to me would

be kind of a, a guaranteed solution.

Which I don't think you can find those around investments there a lot of things that you

cannot control, so I like to focus on the things that you can control.

So that would be my best investment advice.

Focus on the things that you can control and give yourself a lot of time. As far as a formula,

maybe if you thought about your investment, amount of money that you can invest, times rate

of change, so were going back to geometry with the slope rise over run, so rate of change

times time those three factors, your investment capital, rate of change, and time that will give

your investment return by definition.

But you know if you break down the math of it.

You know, the rate of change you can't control, you can control how much you invest you can

control how long you invest but the rate of change you can't control.

So my best advice would be to invest as much as you can--the "capital" for as long as you can

and then hopefully the rate of change you'll get the average of what we've seen for decades

of empirical evidence that we have to get the best result. That's really the best advice that I can give.

Prepare for a Job Interview - Duration: 6:21.

So you just found out they've invited you in for an interview - a big international

company.

This already has you biting your nails.

But to make it worse, they tell you that the interview will be held in English!

What to do?

Well, first of all, don't panic.

Secondly, pause this video, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you are the perfect

person for this job even if this isn't the case.

Confidence is a key word to keep in mind leading up to and during the interview.

Go into the interview so confident that you can already picture yourself behind the desk

with your feet up.

But for such confidence, one needs to be confident with their English…

… And here's a few tips how to ensure that this is the case in the interview.

The first tip is…

Brainstorm the possible questions you could be asked in English to avoid surprises during

the interview.

It's very easy to lose concentration and become lost for words.

For example, one of the most common questions asked in an interview is: What are your strengths

and weaknesses?

Or another common question is: How do you deal with stress or pressure?

For more examples of possible interview questions check out i-diom's website.

So the second tip is…

Make a list of keywords or buzzwords in English that you are highly likely to use in your

answers.

One possible list you could write for example is a list of your strengths.

And be sure you have this particular job in mind when making up this list – try to imagine

what you would want to hear if you were the interviewer.

Your choice of keywords will obviously depend on what specific job you are being interviewed

for.

However here are a few examples of common keywords that are often used in interviews:

passionate asset

communicator team-player

Now try to use these keywords in complete, and of course, articulate sentences.

For example: In my previous job, I was faced with many

situations where being a good communicator and a cooperative team- player was important.

Or:

I believe I will be an asset to your company as I'm not only

skilled at what I do, but I'm also passionate about the work.

And remember: It is important to keep your sentences clean and simple.

The third tip is…

Research the company's website and again make a list of key words and phrases that

describe what the company is all about and also what the job will require.

This will indicate that, firstly, you have been diligent or have taken the initiative

by researching the company and secondly, this will mean that you'll be using keywords

or the right language that will make the interviewer's ears get excited.

So for example, if I was being interviewed for a Marketing position, I would want to

know keywords such as: advertising strategy

brand management internet marketing

market and trend analysis

for example memorize these lists and practice using them in sentences by talking to yourself

in the mirror.

Remember: It's only crazy if your reflection starts talking back to you.

Oh, and one last thing, don't forget to practice your greeting and general etiquette

in English.

Consider it to be like a commercial of yourself.

And like any good commercial, the introduction will always capture the person's attention.

The first handshake and eye contact IS the commercial.

And there is not a chance to edit after, so be sure to practice…

Here's a few tips on how to go about your initial greeting:

smile, make eye contact,

introduce yourself with your first and last name,

use their name when shaking their hand with the appropriate title.

For example Professor, Mr. or Ms. Higglebottom – people like to hear the sound of their

own name.

At the end of the interview, be sure to thank the interviewer for their time and the opportunity.

Thank you for your time and the opportunity.

And one more thing that is good to say to wrap up an interview is:

I look forward to hearing from you.

So that's all from us here in this video lesson brought to you by i-diom the language institute.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Oh, can somebody get the ear, please!

Ja!
