HOW TO SHOOT CONCEPTUAL PHOTOGRAPHY - Duration: 12:45.

what is up everybody welcome back to the

show right now we are in the middle of

Photo Assignment #6 which is

photo sequences there's been a few

submissions so far but this is a tougher

assignment and I want to talk about that

some more today this is very different

than the other stuff that we've done the

last photo sent was called "Red" and red

is a very interpretive subjective term

you can kind of interpret that how you

want and it works this assignment is very

different because it deals with

conceptual photography and so I want to

talk about that today I am going to

share a couple entries for photo

assignments that have come in so far

that I think are particularly good and I

want to walk you through the process of

actually doing one of these someone

asked me in a comment off the last video

if I would show my process and how I

work and so I'm going to share a little

bit of that with you today so let's

first of all talk about photo sequences

and conceptual photography in the last

video one of the photographers that I

used to illustrate this idea of the

photo sequence was a gentleman named

Duane Michals who is an incredible

photographer he is known as a conceptual

photographer this is a movement of art

that started in New York really around

the 1960s still continues today but what

is conceptual photography what does that

mean obviously there's a concept but

what does that mean beyond that and

really it's quite simple all it means is

there's an idea that permeates and in

the idea of conceptual photography it's

something that outweighs any of the

aesthetic choices but you know you can

have both if you want but it means there

is a solid idea that functions to give

continuity to the work of art or in this

case the sequence of photographs and

that idea I believe works best when you

can introduce some kind of element of

surprise something that is unexpected

that's what ends up giving it a lift

sometimes this can be humorous sometimes

it can be serious but it's something

that is unexpected so for instance if we

look back at one of the photos sequences

that I showed you last week just to

remind you this is a photo sequence of

Duane Michals and a friend of his

eating at a diner and it's a fairly

mundane thing we've all done it so

what's different about this well they're

very animated they start laughing and at

one point Duane Michals starts talking

and he starts boring his friend who

falls asleep on the table eventually

they get up and leave I think that

falling asleep on the table to introduce

the idea of boredom is that element of

the unexpected that gives that photo

sequence a lift otherwise it's not as

exciting it's not as interesting and I

think thats a

really important function of this and so

this is something that's really

important to consider and I think the

hardest place that people try to start

is how do you come up with ideas so

where do ideas come from this is the six

million dollar question there are

thousands of books written on this

subject and there are thousands of gurus

out there that want to tell you how

creativity works and you follow them and

their guidelines and all you know the

only thing that I could tell you in all

of my years of experience in this is the

people that have known and who I've

worked with and what works for me is

that everyone is different and it's

going to be different for everybody how

they arrived at the end with an idea and

how that comes to them now I will say

one thing that I have noticed that

creativity is like going to the gym when

you're going to the gym regularly and

you're exercising regularly you feel

good it's satisfying to go and you feel

like you're in a good place and the one

or two weeks you stop exercising it's

really hard to get back into it and you

have no strength I think creativity

works the same way in our own minds when

you're used to doing it and you're in that

groove it's going to flow more naturally

than when you skip out on it for a

couple weeks then try and come back to

it so sometimes it's a matter of warming

up being patient with yourself and

getting back into it now I personally

think that ideas are everywhere and

right now we're talking about the photo

sequence so a photo sequence has to have

generally speaking some kind of action

something that happens so what is that

that happens now I'm going to do one

with you guys today right now it looks

like rain outside so that's probably not

a good idea to want to go shoot out

there so I'm going to stay in so it's

going to be something that's the studio

thing so what do I have around the house

that's an idea and here's where it gets

complicated because most people don't

recognize ideas because they seem boring

or mundane or just not interesting and

most of these are so if I consider

things that happen around the house okay

setting the table making dinner doing

the dishes doing laundry those are all

mundane things but what is that one

element of surprise that could lift one

of those those those actions into being

something that is interesting so for

instance I was thinking about this

earlier when I was in college I can't

tell you how many times I would buy a

pair of jeans and then throw it in with

a bunch of whites and my laundry and

everything would come out blue so

there's an idea for maybe a photo

sequence if you could photograph that

right now that's not what I'm willing to

do today but I was thinking about this

the other day and

I live in Texas and it's really hot

here in the summer and a couple years

ago I went to this big phase where I

would stay up late at night because it

was cooler and inside and I did this

botanical study so I shot a lot of

flowers a lot of organic objects and I

thought you know based on the work that I

did with that years ago maybe there's

something I could do where -

the first thing comes to mind is like a

time lapse of a flower blooming right

well that's a little plain but I can

tell you one thing that happens around

my house is my cat Judy eats flowers in

fact we can't have nice things here they

always had to go up high and hidden

because she will devour them when

they're out so maybe I could incorporate

that and that could be my element of

surprise so with that in mind let's take

this to the next step and start

sketching this out a little bit okay so

the first thing I'm going to do is

sketch out my ideas onto a storyboard

now I have the worst drawing skills in

the world that is not the point the

reason that I'm doing this is one for

efficiency I want to make sure that I do

this with as few images as possible i

think this is really important you see a

lot of people try to do this with way

too many images and it's just too much

to try to look at for the viewer and so

I really want to be economical

with this if I can do it in four images

great and if I need more frames than I

can add them on from here the other

thing I want to start to think about is

just visually do I have enough

continuity going within the scene and

that's really important so for instance

in my case we're going to start with the

four squares here and I want the first

frame obviously to be the the flower

before it blooms so it's just

budding so that's one thing I want to go

get when I do my props i'm not going to

actually sit here and wait weeks on in

for a flower to bloom we want to get

this done fairly quickly so I want to

make sure I have enough to work with the

same flower that's not quite bloomed yet

and blooms so first one it's not

blooming the second one I'm going to go

ahead and show that the flowers bloomed

and then the third frame I think is the

place to introduce the cat which is what

this little bad drawing is supposed to

be that's supposed to be Judy and she'll

be devouring this somehow I'll have to

wait and see what happens that

image will probably have to improvise a

little bit because I'm dealing with the

cat on this and then finally in the last

image I definitely want the flower

pedals but I think we're going to need

the stem also to show now what's

interesting about sketching it out is

I'm already starting to think in terms

of what angle am I going to shoot this

from because I can't have those flower

petals just floating in the air

obviously

and I'm not shooting a bird's-eye view

of this so probably what I'm going to do

is go at a 45-degree angle so I can

cheat that a little bit and I can just

have them scattered in the background so

it looks fairly normal so that's why I'm

sketching this out that's the only

reason so I start to think about those

things a little bit start to do some

problem-solving you make sure I'm being

efficient now let's go get some supplies

[Music]

for better or worse, I now have a photo

sequence is it the greatest thing ever

made? no it but it's a starting point

and it's something that makes me want to

work on it some more I mean what you saw

was literally about an hour and a half

and that included setting up my lights

and actually going up to the store

getting some props and go and that was

an hour and a half complete and so I

didn't spend a lot of time on that but

one thing that helped me was the fact

that I sketched those ideas out beforehand

now I do want to say this that a lot

changed when I started photographing

when I got to the camera I realized that

the flowers that I got were really

pretty small and I wish they were a

little bit bigger I also realized they

were yellow and I envisioned them being on

a white background and that didn't read

so I needed to change my background to

black so there's going to be a lot of

decisions and a lot of things that you

change when you move to the camera away

from the stick figure stuff but at least

that gave me a concept I knew what I was

going for and with conceptual art or

conceptual photography the whole

aesthetic of that or the whole idea that

is that the concept is more important

than the aesthetics so once you get that

and you're trying to get both then it

gives you a starting point is all I'm

trying to say and it gives you an idea

and I knew what that element of surprise

was going to be and that actually came

off pretty easily so I hope that helps

you guys I want to talk really quick

about two submissions that I got this

week that I think are really really good

I'm going to make one suggestion on each

of these this is a little bit critique-y

but there is one thing that can be

changed in each of these to take it from

being really really good to really

exceptional and so this first one was

sent in by Jim Garlock and I think it's

fairly self-explanatory what this

sequence is but this is his son who was

begging to eat a lemon and much to his

surprise it was not nearly as tasty as

he thought it was going to be as you can

see by the facial expressions and I

think this photo sequence is incredibly

beautiful it's a cute kid it works

really well its got dynamic emotions it

certainly has the element of surprise

that's there the unexpected at least for

the kid I think it's great my only

complaint - my only criticism that I

would give to this image is there are

too many photos you have to remember

that when people experience a photograph

it's not like a movie even though we're

doing a sequence and it starts to feel

like a comic or a storyboard or

something like that people are going to

give much more time and attention to

motion picture if they're into it than

they are a group of photographs and so I

think right now there are too many

images here and you could narrow it down

to four of the best and tell the same story

into it much more effectively and you

also remember when you're giving people

a bunch of images that's a lot of

information that somebody has to grok

and so I think it's really important to

keep that as simple as possible but

anyway other than that I think this is

outstanding this is exactly what we're

going for on this just make it fewer

images the second example I want to show

you submitted from a gentleman named

Wo Ow which I doubt is his real name

but I really love this image sequence

now unlike all the things we've been

talking about were a conceptual photo

sequence deals with some kind of action

this one does not it has a concept but

it's not an action there's nothing

moving here but you could probably tell

what this is this is basically the

common thread here is the red chair in

each image but its showing generations of a

family and I think the key image

here is the one with the photo on it

because you realize it's somebody who's

not with us right now but it shows that

lineage and I think this is really

strong and I think it really dials in

together now the way you presented this

was in this comic strip kind of format

where it was columns and rows - this is

real nitpicky and you may have done that

because you submitted on social media

and you're trying to maximize your space

which is fine but I would display this

all in one row and it's just

a few images I would put them all on a

horizontal row I think they just need to

be read like that I think when you start

making the I wander it takes away from

the simplicity of this but I think this

is really beautiful it's really well

executed and my god what a great idea

doing something is generational like

that and that's a very different spin on

all this concept stuff we've been

talking about so anyway I hope this

helps you guys we're going to take the

entire month this month for this photo

assignment it's hard I understand it's

probably a way of thinking and a style

of photography that most of you guys are

not used to dealing with and so we're

going to take it slow if you guys have

any questions please leave me a comment

on this video and as always if you've

enjoyed this please remember to like it

share it and subscribe to the art of

photography for more videos - I'll link up to

the entire Photo Assignment playlist if

you're just now coming into this and you

have no idea we're talking about these

are these will biweekly challenges

that we do and I will link up some

videos that you can watch here until the

next one I will see you guys then later

Best Investments For Young Investors - Duration: 5:32.

Kris Krohn here REITV and I'll tell you

something...

I retired when I was 26 and

that's the question is how old or young

do you need to be to really get into real estate?

is there a particular age?

so I love it when young people ask me

how old do I need to be to invest in real estate?

and i love it with old

people are like "is it too late for me to

invest in real estate" everyone wants to

know what's the magic age when is it too

early when is it too late?

well before I

answer that let me just kind of share

this idea regardless of age, if you have

the ability to do a deal and let's say

that deal could make you $50,000

so what I ask, "do you really want your age

to to get in the way of producing

$50,000?"

so what age do you need to be?

well I got started when I was 22 and I

retired when I was 26 just a year out of

college so do you need to be 22 or 26 on

the low side no I've seen 17 and 18 year

olds do it I have gotten a buddy who who

went by the time he turned 19 years old

had already brought a couple properties

he went to go server to your Christian

mission and when he came back you know

what he walked into almost a hundred

thousand dollars of equity sold those

properties that cash flow paid for his

mission and then he upgraded it into

more properties you can be young and you

can do this you can also be old and of

course it's never too late if you're

leveraging a short-term buy-and-hold

strategy because no one wants to buy a

property at 100 and then kick the bucket a

year before they're able to sell it

there doesn't have to be and I'll tell you this

I was 26

beat that!

if you're young be inspired ultimately getting a

deal done does not come down to you

having money are you having credit it

comes down first of all you having a

desire to make something happen and so

if you're watching this video and you

have that desire know that in some way

shape or form what's available out there

are the necessary resources to make

deals happen I spent ten thousand

dollars to do millions of dollars in

real-estate that's all it took for me to

get in and then the beginning even far

less than that for you I'm not going to

tell you an age I'm not going to tell

you how much money or how little money

because the reality is everything you

need right now to make real estate

happen it's available to you if the

desire is there go for it now if you

want to make sure that you do the deal

right there are three things that I want

you to watch out for how many?

at three all right so let me give these

to you the first thing that I want you

to be focusing on

is equity now what is equity equity

ultimately equity is this idea of the

difference between what something is

worth and what you all want right so if

an asset and then there's a liability

portion when you have a mortgage on it

let's say something is worth a hundred

thousand dollars and let's say that got

such a great deal on it and i bought it

for fifty thousand dollars well now that

means that fifty percent of the property

is paid off and in this example there's

fifty thousand dollars of equity then

also represent a 50-percent ltd or

loan-to-value so fifty thousand dollars

that will be fifty thousand dollars in

network equity is the first thing the

second thing that you want to look

forward to make sure deal works is cash

flow k cash flow basically means all

right here's this hundred thousand our

house and my $50,000 mortgage is costing

me four hundred dollars a month but I

rent it for seven hundred dollars a

month what's the difference between 700

and 400 that's three hundred dollars a

cash flow in a year that's three

thousand six hundred dollars and if it's

something like a lease option strategy

and all the expenses get deferred to the

person in the house so that could then

become a cute cash flow to you watch one

of my other videos on how to do these

options to get more information on that

and then the third thing that you want

to look for is controlled you don't need

to be the sole owner to share control in

this property sometimes I buy properties

with cash sometimes I buy them as loan

sometimes I bonded with partners take an

example to partner you can watch one of

my other videos on how to find partners

and what that looks like but essentially

with the partner what you're doing is

you've got somebody that says hey don't

put up the credit maybe they'll put up

the money and maybe you're the one

finding the tenant and managing your

property and the tube you are sharing

control so you can put anything in a

contract

you can decide what control looks like

and make sure that you have some so that

as you hold on this property over time

when it comes time to buy sell reruns it

out you're the one calling the shots to

make this work for you whether you are

17 years old yes you can or whether you

are 100 years old

go for it no seriously go like go go

scram make it happen like I don't care

how old you are if you're watching this

video if you're old enough to watch this

and like cognitively process what I'm

talking about here then guess what go go

make it happen and then go tell us what

went down and go ahead and blogging and

comment below because I would love to

hear from some of you how young or how

old were you when you actually got into

real estate

you

White tongue - 3 Reasons for the White Coating on Your Tongue and What to Do About It 1 - Duration: 4:08.

hi and welcome to biteawayTV in this

episode I'll explain you the three

reasons for the white coating on your

togue and what to do about it did you

know that the white coating on your

tongue is one of the biggest causes of

bad breath and plaque that sticks to your

teeth as an experienced dental hygienist I

see a lot of patients with this problem

and they are often also suffering from

bad breath gum disease and tooth decay

for some it shatters their confidence

and affects their daily interactions

with people which have a big effect on

many aspects of their life if you suffer

from the same problem and are wondering

what caused the white tongue so stay

tuned

with three possible reasons for a white

number one as always a poor dental

hygiene routine according to University

of Basel in Switzerland sixty to eighty

percent of your mouth bacteria are

located on your tongue and most of the

rest exists as plaque between your teeth

our mouth and tongue shape provide an

optimal environment for the spectator to

prosper so without an effective dental

cleaning routine to keep on top of it

you will experience oral health issues

stemming from white tongue and plaque

buildup number two your lifestyle

everything from dehydration stress

smoking alcohol and the food you eat can

contribute to developing a white film on

your tongue it is now thought that

tongue piercings and meat consumption

could also be factors in the build-up of

bacteria on your tongue number three

medical there are some medical

conditions that can cause the white

coating on your tongue including dry

mouth hairy tongue sinusitis and post

nasal drip also conditions like

periodontitis gingivitis and carries

thrive because of the bacteria on your

tongue so cleaning your tongue twice a day

can make a significant difference in the

healing of these conditions and here

comes the solution the good news is that

nine out of ten people can eliminate

white tongue and the resulting bad

breath otherwise known as halitosis by

having an effective teeth cleaning

routine and by visiting your dentist or

dental hygienist just once per year my

bacteria boosting daily routine step

number one use interdental brushes as

the most effective way to clean the

plaque between your teeth and stop it

from turning into harmful tartar that

causes gum disease and the white coating

on your tongue step number two before

brushing clean your tongue with a tongue

scraper start from the back to the start

from the back of the tongue and scrape

to the white film off towards the front

tip do this twice a day step number

three then brush your teeth once in the

morning and once at night step number

four complete your teeth cleaning

routine with a 60 seconds swill of

mouthwash it's that easy only four steps

so spending just 10 minutes every day on

your dental hygiene routine will result

in a healthy tongue and disease free

gums which means you'll get rid of

embarrassing smelly breath and the white

coating on your tongue have less cavities

encourage better and faster

periodontitis healing and eliminate the

unattractive red and swollen gums you

experience with gingivitis after a short

time you will not only have a beautiful

smile but you also have way more

confidence when interacting with friends

colleagues and loved ones knowing you're

not inflicting them with unpleasant bad

breath any questions please leave a

Hero Doctor Peter Gold Watches His Own Shooting For The First Time | TODAY - Duration: 6:57.

THOSE ARE THE HEADLINES. MATT, OVER TO YOU.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. >>> NOW, A "TODAY" EXCLUSIVE.

I'M SITTING WITH PETER GOLD. THIS IS A GUY WHOSE STORY WE

COVERED IN 2015. HE WAS A MEDICAL STUDENT AT

TULANE. HE TRIED TO HELP A WOMAN WHO WAS

BEING DRAGGED DOWN A NEW ORLEANS STREET AT GUN POINT.

WHEN HE TRIED TO HELP HER, THE ATTACKER SHOT PETER IN THE

STOMACH. AND ATTEMPTING TO EXECUTE HIM.

PETER, GOOD MORNING. GOOD TO SEE YOU.

>> IT'S AN HONOR TO BE HERE. >> WE'LL SHOW THE STORY IN A

SECOND. I WANTED TO COME OUT TO YOU

BECAUSE WHEN WE FIRST MET A FEW MONTHS AGO, YOU TOLD ME YOU'VE

NOT WATCHED THE TAPE OF WHAT HAPPENED.

IT WAS CAUGHT ON SURVEILLANCE TAPE.

YOU DIDN'T WANT TO SEE IT. YOU SAID YOU WERE NOW READY TO

WATCH IT. SO, IT'S OKAY IF WE ROLL IT NOW?

>> LET'S DO IT. >> ALL RIGHT.

LET'S TAKE PEOPLE BACK TO NOVEMBER OF 2015.

THE HORRIFIC CRIME WAS CAUGHT ON SURVEILLANCE TAPE.

A WOMAN BEING DRAGGED DOWN AN NEW ORLEANS STREET BY AN ARMED

MAN, NOW. THE VIDEO SHOWS A WITNESS, PETER

GOLD, A STUDENT AT TULANE UNIVERSITY, STOPPING HIS CAR TO

HELP THE WOMAN. BUT HE TURNED HIS GUN ON GOLD,

WANTING MONEY. >> A MAN YELLING, DON'T.

I TOLD YOU I DON'T HAVE MONEY. >> Reporter: HE SHOT HIM IN THE

STOMACH AND CONTINUED TO POINT HIS GUN AT GOLD AS HE LAY

WOUNDED ON THE GROUND, PULLING THE TRIGGER AGAIN AND AGAIN.

BUT THE GUN JAMMED, SPARING GOLD'S LIFE.

THE SHOOTER'S CAR AND LICENSE PLATE WERE CAUGHT ON CAMERA,

WHICH LED TO HIS ARREST. HE WAS CONVICTED ON MULTIPLE

CHARGES AND SENTENCED TO 50 YEARS IN PRISON.

PETER GOLD SURVIVED, WENT ON TO FINISH HIS MEDICAL DEGREE AND IS

NOW SPEAKING OUT FOR THE FIRST

TIME. >> PETER, WELCOME BACK.

I WATCHED YOU WATCHING THAT. YOU KEPT SHAKING YOUR HEAD.

>> I REMEMBER BEING RIGHT THERE AND LOOKING AT THIS GUY IN THE

FACE. ME HELD HIS GUN TO ME.

AND HE TOLD ME I'M GOING TO KILL YOU.

AND HE SHOT ME IN THE STOMACH. I FELL TO THE GROUND.

TO BE ABLE TO WATCH THAT VIDEO, MAKES ME FEEL LUCKY AND HAPPY TO

BE ABLE TO SHARE THIS MOMENT WITH YOU AN SPEND TIME WITH

FRIENDS AND FAMILY. >> THAT GUN WORKED THE FIRST

TIME HE PULLED THE TRIGGER. HE GOT YOU IN THE STOMACH.

AS HE CONTINUED TO PULL THE TRIGGER WITH THE GUN POINTED

DIRECTLY AT YOUR HEAD, HE JAMMED.

HOW MANY TILES HAVE YOU ASKED YOURSELF, WHY DID THE GUN JAM ON

THE NEXT ATTEMPTS? >> FOR ME, THAT'S THE MOST

SURREAL PART. MY BACK WAS TO HIM AT THAT TIME.

IF THIS VIDEO DIDN'T COME OUT, I DON'T THINK WE WOULD KNOW THAT

HAPPENED. I JUST THINK IT'S A QUESTION WE

CONTINUE TO ASK. BUT I'M LUCKY AND FORTUNATE TO

BE ABLE TO COME OUT OF THAT

ALIVE. >> HOW ARE YOU?

THAT BULLET DID A LOT OF DAMAGE. >> I FEEL GREAT.

I HAVE TO GIVE CREDIT TO MY DOCTORS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF

MEDICAL CENTER AT TULANE IN NEW ORLEANS.

THEY TOOK ABSOLUTE CARE OF ME. AND YOU KNOW, IT'S AN INCREDIBLE

MIRACLE. >> YOU HAD AN INCREDIBLE YEAR

SINCE THEN. YOU GOT YOUR MEDICAL DEGREE.

YOU'RE FINISHING UP AN INTERNSHIP YEAR OF ORTHOPEDIC

SURGERY RESIDENCY. HOW FAR DO YOU GO BACK AND THINK

ABOUT THAT DAY? >> I THINK OF THAT DAY EVERY DAY

OF MY LIFE. THERE'S NOT A DAY THAT PASSES

BY. AND THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE IN

THIS COUNTRY THAT ARE AFFECTED BY GUN VIOLENCE.

AND A LOT OF PEOPLE WATCHING HERE TODAY THAT KNOW SOMEBODY

THAT'S BEEN AFFECTED OR HAVE BEEN AFFECTED THEMSELVES.

AND TO BE SITTING HERE TALKING TO YOU AND HAVE THIS VOICE, I

FEEL I HOPE I'M NOT ONLY SPEAKING FOR MYSELF BUT SPEAKING

FOR THEM, AS WELL, TOO. >> YOU WANTED TO SPOKE AND GIVE

A STATEMENT AT THE SENTENCING OF THE MAN WHO SHOT YOU.

CAN I READ A PORTION OF WHAT YOU SAID?

I WOKE UP TWO DAYS LATER, SURROUNDED BY FAMILY AND A GROUP

OF BEST FRIENDS. THIS MOMENT WILL FOREVER BE THE

HAPPIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE. I WAS ALIVE.

YOU HADN'T KILLED ME. AND WITH MY FAMILY BY MY SIDE, I

KNEW I WOULD BOUNCE BACK STRONGER THAN EVER, STRONG

ENOUGH TO STAND FACE-TO-FACE WITH YOU AGAIN.

WHY WAS IT IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO SAY THAT?

>> I THINK IT WAS ONE OF THE SILVER LININGS IN THIS ENTIRE

THING. I WOKE UP IN THE HOSPITAL, A

GROUP OF TEN OF MY FRIENDS HAD FLOWN DOWN TO NEW ORLEANS.

MY FAMILY WAS THERE. AND IT WAS A SPECIAL HOME OF

RECOVERY, TO KNOW THAT I WAS

GOING TO GET THROUGH THIS. >> YOU MENTIONED YOUR FAMILY.

I WANT TO REMIND VIEWERS, AT THE TIME YOU WERE ROBBED, SHOT AND

ALMOST KILLED, YOU WERE ON THE CELL PHONE WITH YOUR MOM.

SHE HEARD -- YOUR DAD, TOO. THEY HEARD THIS ENTIRE THING

HAPPENING TO YOU ON THE PHONE. HOW WAS THIS IMPACTING THEM?

>> IT WAS TRAUMATIC. WHEN SOMEONE'S AUCTION CAUSES

MORE THAN JUST THE DIRECT ACTION, IT'S A RIPPLE EFFECT FOR

EVERYONE ELSE. IT WAS TRAUMATIC FOR FRIENDS AND

FAMILY. ALL OF US WERE LOOKING FORWARD

AND TRYING TO DO SOMETHING POSITIVE OF WHAT'S HAPPENED

HERE. >> YOU WERE ON THAT SIDEWALK

THAT NIGHT BECAUSE YOU STOPPED TO HELP SOMEONE YOU DIDN'T KNOW,

WHO WAS IN TROUBLE. THERE IS NO QUESTION YOU ARE A

HERO. WOULD YOU, TODAY, STOP TO DO THE

SAME THING? >> I THINK IT WAS COMPLETELY

Spinal Manipulation (Chiropractic treatment) for Low Back Pain: Evidence of Effectiveness? - Duration: 2:42.

Spinal manipulation therapy is one of those treatments that just thrives on anecdote.

If you're like me, you have patients who swear by it.

Also, if you're like me, you're skeptical about some of the claims certain providers

make about spinal manipulation.

Mostly because a lot of these claims lack biologic plausibility.

But for low back pain, spinal manipulation has a bit more face validity than spinal manipulation

for, say, gallstones.

So I was intrigued to see this meta-analysis appearing in the Journal of the American Medical

Association: Would spinal manipulation prove the panacea

for painful posteriors?

Or would the anecdotal evidence wash away amidst a torrent of hard data?

The crack researchers examined randomized trials of spinal manipulation therapy for

acute lower back pain from 2011 to 2017.

26 randomized trials were found.

Most of them…weren't great.

No studies blinded the provider (though I admit that would be tough).

And only 4 blinded the patients by using sham procedures.

Let's look at the effect of spinal manipulation on pain scores.

This forest plot shows you that, broadly speaking, spinal manipulation reduced pain scores by

about 10 points out of a 100 point scale.

Is that meaningful?

We don't really know, because the minimum clinically important difference for low back

pain hasn't been established yet.

But that 10 point difference is about what you see when you use NSAIDs for low back pain.

But look at those top two trials.

Those were the trials where spinal manipulation was compared to a "sham" procedure – just

pushing randomly on someone's back.

In both those well-controlled trials, we don't see any effect.

Functional outcomes mirror the pain outcomes, a modest benefit, but unclear clinical significance.

The meta-analysis also found high heterogeneity of effect.

What that means is that the results of the trials don't hang together very well – they

are all over the map.

While this doesn't tell us exactly what the studies are doing wrong, it tells us we

can't be all that confident in the combined treatment estimate.

My theory on the heterogeneity?

Spinal manipulation is by no means a uniform treatment.

It's not like a chemical compound, where everyone gets exactly the same thing.

Some providers use a "thrust" technique.

Some don't.

Some have soft music playing in the room, some don't.

It may be any of these factors that actually help the back pain.

We need to chase biologic plausibility.

And, as I say, there is at least a whiff of that with spinal manipulation for low back

pain.

But for a study to be reliable, it needs to be rigorous.

And the most rigorous studies in this meta-analysis, those that randomized patients to spinal manipulation

or sham spinal manipulation, showed no effect.

A few more large studies of that type though, and we're back in business.

Why You Should Never Throw Away Pineapple Peels

Pineapples are one of the several edible fruits from the family called "Bromeliad".

This particular fruit is formed by many individual berries, merging together.

Each scale is an individual berry.

But, did you know that you can use the whole fruit along with its pineapple peels?

Here, we're going to discover how!

1.

Nutritional Benefits of Pineapple

Pineapples are full of vitamin C and manganese.

They also contain dietary fiber and bromelain, which is an enzyme.

Manganese is important for the antioxidant defense.

Pineapple also contains thiamine and vitamin B, which is good for energy production.

This amazing fruit is ideal for diets, because it possesses no cholesterol, no fat and it

is low in sodium.

A cup of pineapple pieces contains only 82 calories.

2.

Health Properties of Pineapples

Anti-inflammatory The only dietary source of bromelain is pineapple.

The core of the fruit possesses the highest concentration of bromelain, but it is also

located in whole fruit.

Its anti-inflammatory properties make bromelain useful in treating sports injuries and relieving

pain.

Anti-cancer properties Bromelain works as an agent which fights cancer

successfully.

Pineapple works together with chemotherapy, in suppressing the cancer cell growth.

It also contains beta-carotene, which protects from prostate and colon cancer.

3.

Benefits for the heart Vitamin C protects against heart disease.

According to many studies from Finland to China vitamin C in high amounts decreases

the risk of coronary heart disease.

Cataract prevention Vitamin C also has a crucial role in vision

protection.

A higher intake of Vitamin C can decrease the risk of cataracts.

Fertility Pineapple is abundant in numerous minerals

and vitamins, including vitamin C, copper, beta carotene, folic acid and zinc.

Many of these vitamins are able to increase the fertility in women and men.

Asthma Beta carotene from the pineapple is converted

to vitamin A during the process of digestion.

Several studies suggest that beta carotene can reduce the chance of exercise – induced

asthma.

Osteoarthritis This fruit could be useful in treating osteoarthritis

because of its anti-inflammatory properties.

3.

Recipe for a "miraculous" pineapple juice:

Needed ingredients:

1 l of filtered water 1 whole pineapple with its peels

Sweetener for taste.

Preparation:

First, wash the pineapple peel well.

Peel the pineapple and separate the shell, removing the fruit and the crown.

Boil the shell with some pineapple pulp.

Let it cool down and dilute it with a liter of water.

Add some sweetener for an improved taste.

Strain the juice and consume it!

Tips On Asking For A Raise - Duration: 3:17.

ASKING YOUR BOSS FOR A

RAISE CAN BE INTIMIDATED.

WE PEG WEBB FROM WEALTH

ENHANCEMENT GROUP FILLING IN

FOR BRUCE.

GOOD MORNING.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT ASKING FOR A

RAISE THAT IS SO DIFFICULT FOR

PEOPLE?

I THINK IT IS ONE OF THE

MOST SCARY THINGS YOU HAVE TO

DO.

YOU ARE REPORTING TO A

SUPERVISOR OR MANAGER EVERY

SINGLE DAY.

AND LET'S FACE IT, WE ARE ALL

KIND OF AFRAID TO ASK FOR MORE.

EVEN THOUGH WE BELIEVE WE ARE

WORTH IT.

ARE WE WORRIED THEY ARE

GOING TO SAY NO AND YOU ARE

FIRED?

WHAT DO WE THINK IS GOING TO

HAPPEN.

WHO IN THE WORLD WANTS TO BE

REJECTED?

WHEN YOU GO IN AND YOU ARE

REALLY, REALLY CONFIDENT YOU

DESERVE THIS RAISE YOU DON'T

WANT TO HEAR THE WORD NO.

IT GOES DOWN TO FEELING

VALUED.

YOU HAVE ADVICE TO MAKE IT A

GOOD SITUATION FOR EVERYONE.

YOUR FIRST ONE IS ABOUT GOALS.

YEAH.

ONCE YOU GET THE APPOINTMENT

WITH YOUR SUPERVISOR DO NOT

CATCH YOUR SUPERVISOR OFF

GUARD.

TRY TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.

WHEN YOU MAKE THE APPOINTMENT

TELL THEM HOW MUCH YOU LIKE

WORKING FOR THE COMPANY.

TELL THEM YOU ENJOY IT HERE.

YOU WOULD LIKE TO TALKING ABOUT

YOUR FUTURE.

SHOW THE SUPERVISOR WHAT YOUR

VISION IS ABOUT THE FUTURE WITH

THIS COMPANY.

YOU ARE SHARING GOALS AND

ASKING FOR FEEDBACK AND OPENING

A DIALOG BEFORE YOU GO IN.

BEFORE YOU GO IN, MAKE SURE

THAT YOU ARE PREPARED.

MAKE SURE THAT YOU RESEARCH A

LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THE VALUE

OF YOUR JOB IS.

EVEN TO THE COMPETITION.

THAT WAY YOU NEED OF THE SOME

THINGS IN YOUR POCKET THAT YOU

ARE CONFIDENT ABOUT THAT YOU

CAN CHALLENGE THAT SUPERVISOR

THAT YOU ARE WORTH MORE.

HOW WOULD YOU SAY TO DO

THAT?

I KNOW YOU LIST IT AS

DEMONSTRATING YOUR

ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

MOST EMPLOYEES HAVE ANNUAL

PERFORMANCE REVIEW.

THERE IS WHERE YOU GET TO STATE

ALL OF THE THINGS THAT YOU ADD

VALUE WITH THE COMPANY.

TEAM WORK IS ABSOLUTELY

ESSENTIAL TODAY.

YOU WANT TO MENTION TEAM WORK.

NOT JUST IT IS ALL ABOUT YOU

BUT IT IS ALL ABOUT WORKING

TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS

AND HOW DID YOU ADD VALUE?

HOW CAN YOU CONTINUE TO ADD

VALUE AS YOU GROW WITH THE

COMPANY?

THAT'S WHAT IT IS ABOUT.

IT IS NOT ABOUT I WANT MORE

MONEY OR I DESERVE MORE MONEY.

IT IS THAT I WANT TO CONTINUE

TO ENHANCE THIS BUSINESS.

YOU ARE INVESTING IN YOUR

BUSINESS.

THERE IS NO I IN TEAM.

YOU SEEM ARROGANT IF IT IS ALL

ABOUT YOU VERSUS THE TEAM AND

THE COMPANY AND HOW YOU ARE

GOING TO PROSPER TOGETHER.

ONE TIP IS TO PRACTICE YOUR

PITCH.

YOU NEED TO HAVE DEFINED IN

YOUR HEAD WHY YOU ARE WORTHY OF

THIS RAISE.

IF YOU WAFFLE AT ALL, YOU ARE

NOT GOING TO GET IT.

YOU ASK FOR A SPECIFIC

AMOUNT.

YOU WANT IT TO BE VERY

SPECIFIC BECAUSE IF YOU GIVE

THIS WIDE RANGE, THEN THERE ARE

ALWAYS GOING TO GO ON THE LOW

SIDE.

WHAT I WOULD DO IS A GO A

LITTLE BIT ON THE THIGH SIDE.

-- HIGH SIDE.

IT IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE

NEGOTIATED.

15 Smart Tips for Organizing a Small Apartment Design | Small Space Solutions - Duration: 5:06.

15 Smart Tips for Organizing a Small Apartment.

Moving in together can create many challenges, especially keeping both parties' clutter to

a minimum.

See how we used kitchen cabinets throughout the home keep a newly-joined couple (and their

dog) neat and organized.

Number 1: Combo of Open Shelves and Closed Cabinets.

Storage was implemented on an empty wall in an area that serves as a walkway between rooms.

Plain white cabinets were used on the white walls to keep the storage "hidden in plain

sight" and keep the space bright.

The open shelving displays favorite books for these avid readers.

Number 2: Dog's Bed.

The upper cabinet keeps the dog's accessories organized.

There are hooks for leashes and dog bags and towels to wipe off wet paws.

An attractive dog bed in the color scheme of the home blends with the carpet and makes

for a comfy nap spot.

Number 3: Use the Back of the Doors.

A tiny whiteboard on the back of the cabinet door keeps track of the week's schedule.

Number 4: Never Lose Keys or Sunglasses Again.

Below the dog's cabinet is another cabinet with hooks for keys and a designated place

for her purse and his wallet.

Having all the stuff you grab on your way out the door in one place will help you stay

organized and on time.

Number 5: Hide the Shoes.

Hidden storage for shoes keeps them organized and out of sight, and a shoeless home is cleaner.

Number 6: Battery and Hardware Storage.

The ends of batteries should not touch in storage because they can lose some of their

power and corrode.

This handy DIY battery station keeps them separated and lets you know when you need

more.

Number 7: Wrangle Cords and Tuck Them Away.

A power strip mounted on the back of a drawer provides a place to charge devices and keep

the cords organized and out of the way.

Number 8: Movable Furniture.

A wood coffee table on casters can easily be docked against the wall and out of the

way when not in use.

Same for the light accent chair, it can also be moved around as needed for TV watching

or for entertaining.

Number 9: Expandable Dining.

A table with a leaf is great for small homes.

Expand it to full size when entertaining then retract it when the company goes home.

Number 10: Still Big Enough for Intimate Dining.

By taking out the leaf and docking the table against the wall, the small space feels bigger.

Since the two homeowners usually eat together, there is still plenty of room at the table

for nightly dinners without having to open it.

Number 11: Dining Room Storage.

A shelf above the storage cabinet creates an additional place for dishware and decor.

By installing a hanging glassware rack under the shelf, wine glasses and goblets find a

home and remain dust free in their upside-down position.

Number 12: Before: Living Area.

The two shallow and small sofas took up a lot of floor space.

Plus one of the homeowners is 6'5" tall, so he couldn't quite get comfortable on this

furniture.

Number 13: After: Living Area.

One larger, deeper sofa fits the space and offers the right scale for the tall homeowner.

A smaller scaled accent chair can be repositioned with ease for social evenings or TV watching.

Number 14: Before: Bedroom.

The bedroom had furniture that was too big for the space, the nightstands especially.

The bed offered no storage.

Number 15: After: Bedroom.

Smaller scale nightstands provide more room while a platform bed with storage allows clothes

to be tucked away neatly.

Wall sconces free up space on the nightstands.

Number 16: Fold-Down Vanity Table.

To free up more space in the bathroom, a flip-down vanity table was added to the bedroom.

A mirror in a prime location provides a place for morning makeup to happen outside the over-crowded

bathroom.

Also, to keep clothes nice and neat, a lower kitchen cabinet was repurposed to create a

laundry sorting station.

Number 17: Cosmetic and Jewelry Storage.

A wall cabinet above the vanity hides makeup and jewelry, including a custom wooden makeup

brush holder made with just a variety of drill bits.

A grab-and-go makeup bag holds items the homeowner takes with her daily.

Picture hooks hold earrings and a small dowel rod helps corral bracelets in an easy to see

spot.

Done.

Anne Costa - Lenten Journey - Praying for Those With Addictions Final Video - Duration: 3:09.

Hello. Thank you for joining me this Lent

for our reflection on "Praying for Those

Who are Addicted: A Mission of Love

Mercy and Help". It's been a long Lent,

and now we'll enter into the holiest

time, the Easter Triduum, where we

understand the very essence of what our

sin does to the Heart of Jesus. It's a

time though where we can grab onto hope,

a deep sense of hope. We are redeemed by

that cross that Jesus carried. We're set

free from the inclination to sin from

our burdens and our addictions. Prayers

get us there. They carry us through. Other

people's prayers, our prayers for

ourselves, but there's one thought that I

want to leave you with, and that is that

there is no healing without forgiveness,

forgiveness of others, forgiveness of

ourselves. The place where we get the

strength and the ability to forgive is

in the sacrament of reconciliation,

that's where we receive the grace is,

the strength, and where we come to

understand that we need forgiveness,

every one of us. That our sins and our

faults they pierce the heart of Jesus

and Mary just as much as the person whom

we need to forgive. Their transgressions

are our transgressions. So once we

understand that we need forgiveness, and

we need mercy. It makes it essential for

us to offer that to someone else. It's a

true act of love. It's not easy.

It's a decision. Forgiveness is a

decision, it is not a feeling. We can

forgive because Jesus does. He entered

into his passion with a heart full of

love for us. We find our freedom from

addiction in that heart. It's my prayer

that you'll allow yourself to be drawn

into his heart more and more through

your prayers. Know that they do make a

difference. They matter. They're essential.

Keep praying, keep hoping. God is

good, and he will never forsake you. God

bless.
