- Hey guys, wait, give me one second,
my phone is dying.
Wasn't that easy?
(electronic music)
Hey guys, welcome to Power Up, my name is Alix Aspe
and what I have here is the new
Charge Stream Powerstation Wireless Charger.
That mouthful is Mophie's new wireless charger
and powerbank.
Together with it's big brother,
the Charge Stream Powerstation XL,
they are the company's newest wireless chargers.
This one is available for $79.95
and it can give your phone the extra one ups
you desperately need these days.
Honestly, there isn't much to say about the looks
of this device because it's a charger.
It's simple and it's designed with function over form.
I guess you could say it has simplicity on its side.
It's small enough to fit in your pockets
and it has a rubbery coating that gives your charger
a good grip.
You can see the Mophie logo at the center.
Besides that, it comes with a four light LED power
indicator that lets you know the current level of charge.
Four light on means the battery of the charger
is at 100%.
Three lights means it's at 75%.
Two means 50% obviously and one means, you guessed it, 25%.
There's another LED light that turns on
when you activate the wireless charger
and we have one button that when you turn it on
it turns on the LED indicator to see how much battery
you have left.
On the bottom edge of the charger you can find two ports.
One is a regular USB-A which provides you
with another way to charge devices, not wirelessly of course
but it recharges them faster than a standard
Apple charger, for example.
It also means that you can charge two devices at once,
one wirelessly and one through cable.
The other port is a USB-C and it's only to charge
the battery of the charger itself.
You can use this device as a charging pad,
meaning you can charge devices through it while
it's connected to an outlet, or you can use it
as a powerbank when it's not connected to a power source,
so basically it will be a portable charger.
This device was designed to wirelessly charge by Qi,
a form of power transfer that works with inductive
charging over distances of roughly an inch and a half.
So make sure your device or phone is enabled with Qi,
if not, it won't work.
Some of the devices compatible with this charger include
the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 10, and Samsung 9.
But now, let's talk about what really matters,
how well does it work.
I used an iPhone 8 to test the device
and this is what I found.
It took one hour and 30 minutes to charge the phone
wirelessly to 50% and a total of three hours
and 25 minutes to charge it to 100%.
Once the phone was charged and full, the battery
of the charger had only 1/4 of it's charge left.
This means that the full battery of this charger
will only be able to recharge your phone wirelessly
from zero to 100 once.
Now, a common question is, do these wireless chargers
work through phone cases?
This Mophie should be able to charge through most
phone covers, unless they're extremely thick.
However, metal covers block the Qi energy transfer.
While connected through the USB-A port,
the charger took 45 minutes to charge the iPhone 8 Plus
to 50% and two hours and 20 minutes to fully charge it.
Now using the cable, you will be able to recharge your phone
completely about two times.
As for charging the battery of the charger itself,
I tried it with the iPhone's standard five watts charger
and it took about five hours and 20 minutes
to charge in full.
With a 29 watt Apple charger it only took three hours
and 45 minutes.
This Mophie has priority charging
which means that when it's plugged to a power source
it will send the power first to your device
and then it will start storing energy.

Most of the drawbacks of this wireless charger
stem from the wireless charging technology itself.
The lengthy charging times and the fact
that you have to position your device just right
for it to charge are some of the issues
that most other wireless chargers have as well.
The Charge Stream Powerstation has it's merits.
And honestly, I think it can help popularize
its technology a bit more.
It might seem like a gimmick but I could definitely
get used to dropping my phone on the brick
and bringing it back to life.

After reviewing the Mophie, I think that I need
to recharge my own batteries, so that's it with Power Up,
I'll see you next time with more gadgets,
and don't miss our technology segment every Tuesday
on Telemundo's Un Nuevo Dia.
