What is Osteoarthritis? Everything You Need to Know - Canada 365 - Duration: 9:22.

What is Osteoarthritis? Everything You Need to Know

Osteoarthritis forms part of the rheumatic illnesses which are numerous and varied.

They all share the fact that they affect part of the locomotor system.

However, they differ greatly in causes, evolution, and treatment.

It is characterized by the progressive loss of cartilage in the joints as a result of wear.

This is usually caused by aging, but it can also be influenced by other factors.

This illness is fairly common in people over the age of 50.

Actually, osteoarthritis is the most common of the rheumatic diseases.

According to data from the World Organization of Health, approximately 28% of adults over the age of 60 have osteoarthritis.

It is estimated that by the year 2020, this illness will be the fourth largest cause of disability in the world.

Causes of osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis takes place when the cartilage in a joint gets worn down and degenerates. This cartilage loses its elasticity and consistency.

Little by little, it loses its thickness until it has practically disappeared.

When this happens, the ends of the bones are left unprotected and their is friction between them.

The affected bones react to this effect.

They make themselves denser and this causes cysts to appear inside of the bone.

In addition, it also creates breaks in the bones at the edges of the joints.

As a result, this deforms the bones. .

Some of the factors that can cause osteoarthritis are:.

Age.

The chances of having it increase exponentially after age 50.

Sex.

Women between 50 and 55 years old are the most affected.

Genetics. Excessive physical activity.

Menopause. Obesity.

Fractures and lesions.

Osteoarthritis is a chronic illness, so it lasts for the rest of your life.

It causes strong pain, but with adequate treatment it can be controlled.

However, its necessary to point out that osteoarthritis does not necessarily cause disabilities or disable those who suffer from it.

Symptoms of Osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is an illness that develops slowly.

Its symptoms start out unnoticed, but then become more intense with time.

In general, there are five signs that suggest the presence of osteoarthritis:.

Pain in the joints.

This is the first symptom.

Intense pain in the joints, usually in the knees, hands, or hips.

Stiffness.

The person lacks flexibility, especially when trying to get out of bed or after having sat in one place for a while.

Bloating and/or numbness.

A simple inflammation of one or various joints can turn into numbness.

Cracking.

The patient experiences a feeling of rubbing or a crack when they move the affected joint.

Discomfort in the knees, feet, hands, and hips.

Although pain is the first sign of osteoarthritis, there can also be cases where it is not present.

Or, the pain may come and go.

Types of osteoarthritis and diagnosis.

Osteoarthritis principally manifests in four zones of the body: the knees, hands, hips, and back.

In the knees is where its most frequent.

In addition, it can be primary or secondary.

The first has to do with the typical form of the illness while the second is caused by an injury.

Osteoarthritis in the hands almost always starts in the join and then spreads to the rest of the hand.

It usually causes deformations and the functionality of your hands can be affected.

Osteoarthritis in your hips causes pain in the inner part of your thigh or in the groin area.

As for osteoarthritis in your back, it tends to start in the lumbar or cervical area.

Typically, the diagnosis can be done through clinical testing. Normally, this is done through x-rays, CT, and/ or an MRI.

Also, the level of your osteoarthritis can be detected through a high-resolution ultrasound.

Prognosis.

The illness itself is not considered serious. However, it can significantly affect a patients quality of life.

Despite this, the prognosis depends on each individual case.

Basically, it is derived from the affected joint and how quickly the problem is worsening.

An early diagnosis and preventative measures can positively modify the prognosis.

With correct treatment, you will be able to slow down the development of your osteoarthritis and decrease its severity.

The treatment is almost always pharmacological and has to do with making changes to a healthier lifestyle.

In some cases, the normal methods fail and it eventually becomes necessary to get surgery.

Generally, surgery helps to improve the symptoms and improve your mobility.

Kate Middleton is still allegedly afraid her royal life about end and it will be because of Prince - Duration: 2:42.

Kate Middleton is still allegedly afraid her royal life about end and it will be because

of Prince William's ex, Isabella.

The Duke of Cambridge and Calthorpe have been incessantly linked together after Prince Harry's

rumored reunion with her half-sister, Cressida Bonas, who also happened to be Harry's ex.

Despite Kate Middleton and Prince William's best effort to mask their marital troubles,

it appears that their relationship is still in crisis.

According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, the 33-year-old Duchess of Cambridge felt threatened by Isabella

Calthorpe since she was the Duke's preferred marriage choice.

That's why, Kate is doing everything she can to stop Prince Harry from marrying Calthorpe's

sister, Cressida Bonas.

Kate Middleton's fears intensified after things between her brother-in-law and Bonas started

to heat up again after their reunion at Prince Harry's 31st birthday celebration party.

Life & Style magazine (via CDL) reported that Bonas spent the entire party at Harry's side.

Unfortunately, their alleged reconnection was not because they have rekindled their

romance.

In fact, Daily Express noted that despite their breakup, the ex-couple remained good

friends and share mutual pals.

A friend of the prince and Bonas also dismissed the rumors and insisted that they were out

with a group of friends to celebrate Harry's birthday.

"Harry and Cress have always kept in touch and are fond of each other," a friend of the

ex-couple said.

"They aren't together at the moment and although you can never say never, I would be very surprised

if it happened [again].

Cressida is very fond of him but, well, he didn't quite cut the mustard.

The issues that were there when they broke up haven't changed."

It seems that Kate Middleton's fears are unwarranted since Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas are

not getting back together.

However, the Duchess can't seem to forget that she is Prince William's second choice.

So, she will do anything to keep Isabella Calthorpe out of the picture.

In spite of the fact that Isabella is married with a child of her own, Kate's constant comparisons

with Princess Diana are likely making the Duchess paranoid.

Aside from marital crisis, Kate Middleton is also facing some style choice and makeover

regrets.

Inquisitr has learned that the Duchess was mortified by all the fuss people have been

making just because of her bangs.

But her stylist, Richard Ward, defended the look saying that bangs make an "instant style

statement" and "they're ageless and timeless" since they would "never go out of fashion."

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton has successfully followed the footsteps of Princess Diana by

receiving one of the Queen's highest honors, which is the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth

II.

It is the highest honor the Queen can bestow upon a royal female and the Duchess has been

a lucky and proud recipient, ET Canada reported.

Why is Manchester United vs Derby being played on a Friday night? - Duration: 2:42.

Why is Manchester United vs Derby being played on a Friday night?

MANCHESTER UNITED face Derby in the third round of the FA on Friday night.

Jose Mourinhos men were knocked out of the competition last season in the quarter-finals by finalists Chelsea.

When is Manchester United vs Derby?.

THE third-round FA Cup game takes place on Friday, January 5.

This match will be held at Old Trafford.

Kick-off is at 8pm.

Why is the game being held on Friday night?.

DESPITE not being picked for televised coverage, the game was not included in the Saturday 3pm fixtures.

Rivals Manchester City face Burnley at home during that time slot and both Manchester clubs cannot play at home on the same date due to policing issues.

Due to Premier League fixtures it was decided that moving the United game was better than the City game (despite Derby fans having further to travel) to even out the days between games for all clubs involved.

What other controversy surrounded the fixture?.

MANY Derby fans were angered by the price of the tickets for the Friday night game with adult ticket prices being marked at £45.

FA Cup rules impose a minimum ticket price of £10 for ties but there is no upper limit.

When the prices were announced, Manchester United explained to the Derby Telegraph that the club policy is to retain the same ticket prices for cup games as for league games.

Derby owner Mel Morris offered Rams season ticket holders a special discount, with those season and half-season ticket holders being subsided by up to a third.

Trump is right He's a gift to the media and Twitter - Duration: 5:13.

Trump

is right: He's a gift to the media and Twitter

President Trump is right about at least one thing: No matter what he does, America cannot

stop talking about him.

One thing that is fairly undeniable about Trump love him or loathe him is his

understanding of how to manipulate the media and to perpetuate a symbiotic relationship

with the press.

During a post-Christmas interview with the New York Times, Trump noted that newspapers,

television, all forms of media will tank if Im not there because without me, their

ratings are going down the tubes.

And while newspapers and television channels certainly existed before Trumps presidency,

since the moment he announced his bid for the presidency Trump has dominated every inch

of the news and our nations discussions about current events in a way that is

genuinely unprecedented.

For each of the last four years, my firm Echelon Insights has analyzed Twitter conversation

about current events, looking at the political issues that got people talking the most.

In 2014, topics like Black Lives Matter, the Middle East, and Ebola were prominent in the

national discussion, with mentions of then-President Barack Obama making up a relatively small

slice of the discussion on news twitter.

From the moment Trump announced in 2015 that he was running for president, he became the

number one topic in current affairs conversation in all but a handful of weeks out of the rest

of the year.

This was a level of dominance he would not cede to any of his presidential opponents

at any point in 2016.

Discussion of Trump in 2016 dwarfed discussion of Hillary Clinton, of Barack Obama, of almost

every other major news story that emerged that year.

But in 2017, Trumps command of our collective attention has not reverted to the sorts of

levels we might expect from an incumbent president if we are using Obama as the baseline.

Instead, Trump was tweeted about 10 times as much as Obama was tweeted about during

his last year in office.

Including Trump as a topic of conversation in our analysis absolutely drowns out all

other issues, and Trump himself is the top topic throughout the year with few exceptions,

such as when stories like the solar eclipse or Charlottesville, Va., topped the headlines.

Even in our analysis that excluded this years tweets specifically mentioning Trump, the

top issue of the year was the Russia investigation, and issue deeply linked to Trump and questions

about the actions of his campaign and transition team.

Even when were not talking about Trump, were talking about Trump.

Of course, Twitter is Trumps medium of choice for getting his message out there.

Political tweeting has increased sixfold on the platform since 2015 and that no doubt

is driven in part by Trumps use of Twitter to drive the news on his terms.

(In the words of my colleague Patrick Ruffini, Trump may be keeping Twitter afloat.)

But Twitter isnt the only place seeing a potential Trump effect.

The traditional news media gave more coverage to Trump during the campaign than they did

to his opponents, and covering Trump has not proven to be bad for business.

CNN has proudly noted that 2017 is their most watched year in total day ratings, and MSNBC

has seen large gains in the era of the #Resist movement.

While newspaper circulation numbers continue to fall, major national newspapers have reported

significant increases in subscriptions, especially digital subscriptions.

While it seems profoundly unlikely that President Trumps full prophecy will come to pass

that the news media will cover him favorably in order to preserve him as a topic of coverage

it is undeniable that Trumps ability to utterly flood the media with his message

has been a powerful political weapon in his arsenal.

News consumption is on the rise, discussion about current events is on the rise.

Will 2018 be the year everyone gets tired of talking about the same thing over and over?

Perhaps.

Yet we are two and a half years into the Trump era and theres been no sign of it slowing.

The topic we spent 2017 talking about was a pure stream of Trump, Trump, and more Trump.

Dont be surprised if 2018 plays out the same way.
