Waching daily Nov 2 2017

today I'm gonna give you guys five tips about how entrepreneurs can get the most

out of a network like LinkedIn let's talk about it hey guys I am Dana Blouin

and I am back with another entrepreneur vlog for you guys and today we are

talking about how you can make the most out of a network like LinkedIn and I'm

gonna give you guys five tips that you can use to really leverage that platform

for your own benefit as an entrepreneur before we get right into it though guys

if you're new here go ahead and click that subscribe button I put out new

videos like this a few times a week with tons of business and entrepreneur

content don't forget to click that Bell icon and join the notification squad so

you don't miss any videos now let's get right into the video guys my first tip

for you guys is to get graphic I see so many profiles that have a very generic

profile picture and they don't even change the default cover art that

LinkedIn gives them in their profile it just looks bland it looks like everyone

else use that opportunity use that profile picture use that background art

to express who you are tell the people who are looking at your profile a little

something about you that they wouldn't otherwise know that's gonna allow you to

stand out from the crowd just that bit more I get connection requests all the

time or I get recruiters contacting me on LinkedIn and all of their profiles

look so bland use the opportunity to stand out let that visual aspect of it

that graphic aspect of it held a bit of your story as an entrepreneur as a brand

and communicate that to me through that my second tip for you guys is to be

descriptive you have a nice little piece of digital real estate at the top of

your LinkedIn profile to put a description about yourself what you do

what you're passionate about you see so many people on there I'm a motivated and

passion leader and manager and went to my MBA here you know that that's generic

stuff that people are gonna put on their resume tell me what it is that you're

actually passionate about if it's business what your product is why are

you an entrepreneur communicate that part of your story there and don't put

like seven paragraphs I see some people have this huge description on their

profile and I promise you no one is reading it one or two sentences keep it

short keep it brief and make sure that it tells your story just a little bit

more you know that combined with your profile

picture and your background art is gonna start to pull people in my third tip you

guys is to keep SEO in mind because LinkedIn is a platform and just like

YouTube or Facebook you can search you can do the same thing on LinkedIn so

make sure that you're using terms in your LinkedIn profile that are gonna

help people find you find what you do and you want the right people finding

you so keep that in mind don't go get in buzzword happy and put crazy amounts of

buzzwords and SEO terms all over your profile you know no one's gonna want to

read that make sure what you're writing makes sense in your description of your

jobs and what your education is and what your experience is use terms use

keywords that are gonna make you more searchable and gonna help the right

people find you so that you can expand your network as an entrepreneur my

fourth tip for you guys is to start to curate an audience on LinkedIn LinkedIn

has a ton of people on it and they're all professionals and there's gonna be

entrepreneurs investors people who are potential advisors to you so start to

curate that audience get the people on your platform connect with the people

who you want to put your information in front of who you want to be aware of

what you do and what you're doing as a business start to put the time in and

curate that audience start with the people you know like anything you know

every time you get a business card at a networking event go and look them up on

LinkedIn nine times out of ten they are gonna have a profile there connect with

them in that way cuz this is where you can share very business forward

information and you can start to develop yourself as a thought leader or as an

expert in your field and this is a platform where people are gonna see that

from you that brings me right into the fifth tip

guys and that is to publish write write write put content out there LinkedIn has

become a great publishing tool for business people and entrepreneurs it's

gone through a lot of transformations over the years but it really has become

a place for people to share content specific to industries and business and

get it in front of an audience that really wants to engage with it and I

think if you do that if you focus on curating your audience SEO in your

profile make it very descriptive and graphic so it grabs people's attention

all of that will build up to creating a profile where your publishing where your

your writing can gain an audience and gain traction

it's an other social work just like any other just like

Facebook like YouTube it takes time and it takes consistency you can't just put

out one piece a year and expect people to know who you are you have to be

publishing content consistently and content that people want to share on and

off the network so keep that in mind and that's all I have for you guys today

five tips for LinkedIn go out there jump on that platform and start to make the

most of it start to use that as an entrepreneur to grow your network and

gain traction strengthen your personal brand through that platform it's a great

tool and I see a lot of entrepreneurs not utilizing it to their full extent so

go and put the work in and get LinkedIn to work for you as always guys if you

like this feel free to go ahead and like comment and share this content put it

out there help other entrepreneurs learn how to leverage LinkedIn for their own

benefit and guys don't forget to subscribe join the community of

entrepreneurs and business people here on the channel and click that Bell icon

Trump Blamed The Visa Lottery For A Terrorist Attack. But Ending It Wouldn't End Terrorism. - Duration: 7:49.

Trump Blamed The Visa Lottery For A Terrorist Attack. But Ending It Wouldn't End Terrorism.

President Donald Trump and his White House are using the Tuesday terrorist attack in New York City to push their goal of cutting legal immigration by misleading the public about the diversity visa lottery system.

But immigration experts argue that early available evidence indicates the focus should be on preventing radicalization ― and that eliminating the diversity lottery or blocking people from certain nations won't prevent such attacks.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders falsely said on Wednesday that there is no vetting for the diversity visa lottery, a program that allows 50,000 people to move to the country each year from countries with low immigration rates.

"You can't randomly select people, not have them thoroughly vetted and not have the ability to know whether these people want to do bad things or good things when they get here," Sanders said at a press briefing.

"I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that people that want to come to this country go through a vetting process to make sure that when they get here they want to contribute to society and not harm the people of this country.".

Trump said something similar earlier in the day when calling for an end to the program. "We don't want lotteries where the wrong people are in the lotteries," he said. Both Trump and Sanders suggested that people who entered the U.S.

through the diversity visa lottery might be more dangerous than those who entered through "merit-based system," which is one based on an applicants' employer, family, education or other factors.

The diversity visa lottery was created in 1990 to give an opportunity for people from countries with low immigration levels to come to the U.S.

even if they did not have family or employer ties here.  Diversity visa lottery applicants do go through vetting, just like anyone else granted a green card to enter the United States. But like any other immigrant ― and native-born U.S.

citizens ― it can be difficult to predict whether they will be radicalized once they arrive.

Officials said that Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, the suspected attacker in Tuesday's attack, was radicalized once he was already in the U.S., meaning that any stricter vetting on the lottery program likely wouldn't have prevented his entry, which took place seven years ago.

"There's no evidence at all that people who might meet a merit-based requirement would somehow be less likely to radicalize than anybody else," Theresa Brown, director of immigration policy at Bipartisan Policy Center, told HuffPost.

"We just don't know that, we don't have evidence of that, and that's not really what that's about anyway.

[The administration is] slamming apples and oranges together into a mush right now." David Bier, an immigration policy analyst at the Cato Institute who has analyzed terrorism rates among immigrants, said he hadn't "seen any evidence that immigration vetting was implicated," although he, like other experts quoted for this article, noted that he only knows what has been reported publicly.

"The focus on vetting and thinking that people are trying to get here to commit acts of terrorism is not a legitimate lens to view the bulk of this problem," Bier said.

A Department of Homeland Security intelligence assessment from March confirmed that most foreign-born violent extremists do not come to the U.S. radicalized, but become radicalized once they've been living here for several years.

"Most of the individuals who radicalize tend to be quite well integrated," Lorenzo Vidino, director of George Washington University's Program on Extremism, told Politico Magazine last year.

He pointed to the examples of attacks in San Bernardino, Calif., Orlando, Florida and Chattanooga, Tenn., which were perpetrated by people whose radicalization was a gradual process that was in no way linked to how they immigrated to the U.S.

DHS does run a Countering Violent Extremism program which works with communities "to build and sustain local prevention efforts and promote the use of counter-narratives to confront violent extremist messaging online." The agency said in the assessment that it's seen success with its mentoring and integration services as part of the program, but these are focused on school-aged immigrants and are specific to refugees and asylees.

Someone like Saipov, who came to the U.S. at the age of 22 and not as a refugee or asylee, would have been unlikely to be targeted by such services.

It would be more helpful for Trump to focus on policies that can prevent and detect radicalization now, based on current public information about the New York City attacker, said Adam Blickstein, a former Pentagon official in the Obama administration.

"The law enforcement community and the intelligence community is probably full bore into what radicalized him, what inspired him, whether he got any operational help in the U.S. or abroad," Blickstein said.

"Meanwhile, the commander-in-chief is perpetuating this notion that if he was prevented from coming to the U.S.

in 2010 that would have solved everything." Trump typically touts his travel ban following terror attacks around the world, using it as an example of why the U.S. needs a better immigration system.

Sanders said Wednesday that the administration wouldn't rule out adding Uzbekistan to the list of targeted countries in the ban (which was temporarily struck down in federal court last month).

If the Trump administration did add Uzbekistan to the list, it would be a reminder of how travel ban lists are often arbitrary, Bier said.

The latest travel ban is based on the countries' ability to screen their citizens and share information with the U.S., and by not placing Uzbekistan on the list, the government has indicated that the country's security efforts are up to par.

"If Uzbekistan was to be added to this list, it would be even more readily apparent that that really is what's happening here ― that the president is the one driving the outcome and not an objective set of criteria developed by experts in immigration vetting," Bier said.

Cristiano Ronaldo slams Real Madrid for letting stars leave this summer without replacing them - Duration: 1:32.

Cristiano Ronaldo slams Real Madrid for letting stars leave this summer without replacing them

Cristiano Ronaldo has taken aim at Real Madrids bosses for their bungled transfer business.

Much was made of rivals Barcelonas window as they were forced to allow Neymar to join Paris Saint-Germain, after the French side broke his release clause, before failing to capture top target Philippe Coutinho.

But Real only brought in central midfielder Dani Ceballos and full back Theo Hernandez despite seeing a plethora of stars depart the Bernabeu.

James Rodriguez, who joined for £70million in 2014, was allowed to spend the season on loan at Bayern Munich, while experienced centre back Pepe joined Besiktas.

Chelsea managed to pinch Alvaro Morata for £60m, after a faltering campaign in La Liga, he was joined in the Premier League by Danilo - who signed for Manchester City.

And superstar Ronaldo has hit out at the Spanish giants wheeling and dealing, after a horror start to the season has seen them fall eight points behind Barcelona at the top of the table before losing back-to-back games to Girona and Tottenham.

The players who have arrived have a lot of potential but Pepe, Morata, James, made us stronger, but those who are here today are younger, the Portuguese said after Real lost 3-1 to Spurs in the Champions League.

We also need Carvajal and Bale back from injury to make the squad stronger. Its not a worse template, but theyre less experienced and thats very important, but its not an excuse. Im happy and the alarms can not go off.

It's go time for tax plan, top House tax writer says - Duration: 10:28.

It's go time for tax plan, top House tax writer says

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady said Republicans are on track to release tax legislation Thursday, after a day of intense wrangling over details including the fate of a state and local tax deduction.

The bill will "definitely" be released Thursday, Brady said Wednesday evening, one day after he aborted the rollout amid resistance from GOP lawmakers from Democratic states. No question," the Texas Republican told reporters.

However, Brady hedged when asked whether a crucial part of the plan, a long-promised tax cut for corporations, would be permanent.

"That's our goal, and I think it's going to take several steps through the process to achieve that," he said, referring to "awfully funny" Senate procedural rules requiring any permanent tax changes to be paid for.

Lawmakers, lobbyists and others have speculated that the cut would have to be temporary or phased in over a number of years to comply with Senate budget rules that allow Republicans to get around a Democratic filibuster.

Earlier Wednesday, tensions were running "very high," said a source familiar with the eleventh-hour talks. Figuring out how to pay for final changes to accommodate Republican holdouts was just one of several issues that bedeviled Ways and Means members.

It was not immediately apparent how they bridged that difference, though making the corporate tax cut temporary could be one of the strategies.

That wasn't the only problem Republican leaders confronted. Republican tax writers could be heard speaking in raised voices Tuesday night during a more than two-hour meeting at the Capitol.

Sources say there was some unhappiness among rank-and-file members who feel the plan has been written largely by party leaders without their input.

"Members on the committee feel their views are not being listened to," the source familiar with the eleventh-hour talks said. Meanwhile, people on both sides of Pennsylvania Avenue were growing impatient.

White House economic adviser Gary Cohn told GOP senators during a closed-door lunch Wednesday that House Republicans need to release their tax bill before Friday, when President Donald Trump is leaving for Asia, according to two people who attended.

Another White House official seemed annoyed by the postponement, telling Politico that Brady for weeks had promised he had the rollout under control.

And conservative leaders in the House, who have not been part of the closed-door deliberations, started to draw parallels to the GOP's botched health care effort — a knock on party leaders who saw major blowback for the secrecy surrounding the creation of their Obamacare repeal legislation.

"Anything that gets done in a cloak of secrecy is certainly not what an open and deliberative body should do," warned House Freedom Caucus leader Mark Meadows (R-N.

Republican Study Committee member Mark Walker (R-N.C.) said there's an "urgency" among members to see the text. They are eager to put their mark on the legislation.

Trump might have complicated matters Wednesday when he tweeted that lawmakers should repeal the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate, apparently as part of the tax plan.

"Wouldn't it be great to Repeal the very unfair and unpopular individual mandate in ObamaCare and use those savings for further Tax Cuts," the president tweeted.

The Ways and Means Committee was forced to delay its much-awaited rollout Wednesday after a last-minute tweak to its proposal left it hundreds of billion dollars short, according to two Republican sources following the talks closely.

That change, which would allow people from high-tax states to deduct their property taxes, was an effort to win over lawmakers from those states.

The tweak forced Republicans to adjust other parts of their delicately crafted tax bill in order to find savings.

For instance, the state and local property tax change could take away money otherwise dedicated to the personal side of the tax code, like a full repeal of the estate tax or Ivanka Trump's proposed expansion of the child care tax credit.

"In order to offer the New Jersey and the New York folks a fix, they've been looking for more pay-fors," said one House Republican source close to the talks. "It's a very, very expensive fix.".

The cost is important because under Senate budget "reconciliation" rules that Republicans plan to use to muscle their plan through the chamber, any provisions that add to the government's long-term debt must lapse, a requirement known as the "Byrd rule," after the late Sen.

It's still unclear whether the modification to the state and local tax deduction will win over Republicans from New York, California and New Jersey.

Even after meeting Tuesday with Vice President Mike Pence and speaking with Cohn and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin by phone, Long Island Rep.

Lee Zeldin was adamant Wednesday that the deduction — which also includes state and local income and sales taxes — be salvaged in its entirety.

"My position remains … that we shouldn't be eliminating the state and local tax deduction at all," he said. ut Zeldin's ask differed from those of other members from high-tax states, some of whom were open to compromise. Rep.

Tom Mac- Arthur (R-N.J.) said he was willing to consider the property tax deduction middle ground being offered by Brady. Rep.

Claudia Tenney also said she wanted to get to "yes" on the bill, though she said she wanted income tax to be deducted as well as property tax.

"The people in the brackets we're concerned about weren't seeing enough of a tax cut, and that's why we're negotiating for more and they recognize that and are coming back with more," she said.

Zeldin is unlikely to get his wish of retaining the entire state and local tax deduction.

House Republicans like Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California view the tax break as a crutch for Democratic-run states that overtax their constituents — and then turn to the federal government to subsidize them.

Republicans also note that the high-tax areas are typically represented by Democrats who will have no say on the GOP plan. Party leaders are still struggling with how to finance their plan.

Brady wants to raise money by pushing people out of 401(k) accounts and into so-called Roth accounts, which tax retirement deposits when they are made rather than when they're withdrawn.

But some fellow Republicans worry that the change would feel like a tax increase to many people. There's also concern it would curb retirement savings because while 401(k)s are widely known, Roth accounts are much less popular.

There are also questions about a proposal to impose a new tax on American companies that move overseas while still selling to U.S. customers, and on foreign companies operating in the U.S. Some fear that could lead to retaliation from other countries.

There are other potential landmines, such as how to prevent wealthy people from taking advantage of the lower 25 percent tax rate Republicans want to offer unincorporated businesses.

One option — to allow such "pass-throughs" to claim the reduced rate only on a portion of their profits and pay ordinary income taxes on the rest — risks the wrath of the influential small business lobbying group National Federation of Independent Business.

That's because it would mean pass-throughs would end up paying more than the advertised rate. Lawmakers are also believed to be considering imposing a new excise tax on the endowments of private colleges, which would be sure to provoke controversy.

Despite the troubles, Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) brushed off House Republicans' delay in releasing their tax overhaul legislation.

"It's hard to do a tax bill, and they're very good at it. I have total confidence in them," Hatch said in an interview Wednesday. "And if they need a little more time, that's fine with me.".

Hatch said he is "not particularly" committed to rolling out a Senate bill on Nov. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) on Tuesday said was the target date.

"It could be," Hatch said, "but it's hard for us to do that without knowing what the House wants to do.

How to Prepare for a Job Interview: Quick Tips from a HubSpot Recruiter - Duration: 2:58.

Hi, we're here with Colleen Grant, HubSpot's Manager of Global Campus Recruiting

and she's here to tell us how to prepare for your next job interview.

Colleen, it can be super tough to stand out from the pack especially when

there are hundreds of applicants applying for a job.

What are a few things an applicant can do to make their cover letter and resume stand out?

Absolutely it's definitely a really tough thing to stand out

especially for those entry-level positions.

What you can do is really stay true to that job description.

There's always specific requirements that are must-haves,

make sure that you get those into your resume and your cover letter,

that way we can really understand that you care about this role and why you're qualified.

And let's talk about the interview.

What are the top things a candidate can do to prepare before speaking with a recruiter?

And where's the best place a candidate could take a phone or video interview?

So the top things you can do to prepare are

know who you're speaking to,

know what the job description entails,

and know what the company does.

That way, you can really talk to how you qualify to each of those things.

As far as where you should be doing this,

as quiet of space as possible with limited distractions.

So make sure there's no background noise.

A bedroom, a quiet house - any of that is really going to work.

And how about when they move on to the on-site interview? What should they do to prepare?

At this point, when you're coming on-site, your recruiter is really your ally.

Ask them questions about what you should know beforehand,

anything that needs to be prepared as far as a case study,

and also what to wear and when to arrive.

They'll help you and take whatever they say to heart.

Awesome. And we all know that interviews can be super nerve-wracking,

so what should a candidate do if a recruiter or hiring manager

asks a question that really catches them off guard?

It's pretty much a guarantee that this is going to happen during every interview and that's okay.

Take a second, take a deep, collect your thoughts,

and then try to answer the question.

If you truly don't know the answer the question, it's okay to say that as well.

We don't expect every candidate to know everything,

so just say that you don't know and you'll move on from there.

And at the end of the interview, usually candidates are asked if they have any questions.

What questions do hiring managers wish candidates would ask?

Hiring managers always want candidates to ask questions

that are doing a deep dive into the actual position that they're applying for.

What does it mean to be successful?

What is something that might not be as successful in this position?

It's better than the fluffier questions about you know,

why someone joined HubSpot or anything like that.

Really try to keep true to why you're there and what you're applying for.

And now that the interview is over, how and when should a candidate follow up?

Always send a thank you email. It's much more appreciated than you might think.

Send it to the recruiter and the hiring managers.

And if the recruiter hasn't set an expectation on when you should hear back, ask for that too.

That way it alleviates some of the stress of wondering when you're gonna hear back from the company.

Awesome. Thank you so much for your advice, Colleen.

So next time you're trying to prepare for your next job interview,

be sure to keep these tips in mind.
