What is Bipolar Advocacy Really About? - Duration: 2:26.

Hey guys! It's Hannah.

Advocacy and bipolar disorder.

So getting involved in the mental health community is something I have talked about before.

But advocacy, in particular, is a little bit different and we can do this in our daily lives.

I think a lot of people think that they have to come out with a blog

or they have to be very public about supporting mental health

and having a mental health condition, like bipolar disorder, in order to be an advocate.

But that's not the case at all.

And my biggest suggestion is to get involved in your local NAMI,

the National Alliance of Mental Illness.

This is where I started. Going to events and volunteering.

I mean I walked into the NAMI office four years ago

and I didn't even tell them I had a mental health condition.

I just started filing cabinets and talking to them

and, eventually, revealed that I have bipolar disorder.

And they directed me to sources; volunteering, coming to events, conferences.

Social media, of course, I always talk about that as I am a millennial.

But re-tweeting somebody's article about supporting mental health.

Re-tweeting someone who has come out about bipolar disorder.

Mental health resources in society.

Facebook. Instagram.

Those kinds of things do so much in your daily life.

You could be an advocate.

You know, someone gives you false statistics,

says something untruthful about mental health,

you speak up and you say something.

You don't necessarily have to come out and say:

"Hello! You know. I have bipolar. I have depression."

That is very difficult for a lot of people.

And it was very difficult for me.

But this is the path that was chosen for me.

I'm so happy to be here.

Please comment below with any other resources of ways to get involved.

How you are an advocate.

Maybe an experience that you've had lately

that you felt like you stuck up for mental health.

And I can't wait to read those.

I will see you next week. Bye.

Uh-Oh: Maxine Waters' New Challenger Is Invulnerable to the "Race Card" - Duration: 3:58.

California Rep. Maxine Waters, who has been playing the race card for decades, will face

off against a Republican candidate in 2018 who will be difficult to label a "racist."

Omar Navarro, a Latino, has challenged the liberal incumbent for California's 43rd

Congressional District seat, which is up for grabs next year, and he has already racked

up a long list of big-name conservative supporters to help him be successful.

Among his supporters are several minorities, including Herman Cain, a 2012 Republican presidential

candidate, and Pastor Darrell Scott, co-founder of the National Diversity Coalition for Trump,

according to Navarro's campaign website.

This won't be the first time Navarro has tried to unseat Waters, as he previously challenged

her for the same House seat in 2016, but she won with more than 70 percent of the vote,

the Los Angeles Times reported.

Nevertheless, he said he has faith that the feat can be accomplished, despite his prior

loss and the fact that 60 percent of voters in the district are registered Democrats.

"I had faith after Trump won that … we could topple someone like Maxine and win,"

the 28-year-old Republican said.

"That's the reality of life.

There are always upsets."

Navarro told the LA Times he could conceive a path to victory by appealing to the district's

growing Latino population.

As someone with a Cuban background, he has a unique perspective on the many issues surrounding

immigration — a particularly hot topic around election season.

The Republican has emphasized the importance and responsibility of citizenship, advocating

for increased security toward refugees seeking to resettle in the U.S., according to Bustle.

"Growing up, my grandpa told me that in Cuba, democracy was not an option," Navarro's

website said.

"Citizenship in the United States requires us to do more than complain about our problems

– we have to work together to fix them."

His stance on those issues hasn't changed since the last election, but another seriously

important aspect about his campaign has — his financial state.

Navarro has already raised more than $115,000 for the 2018 election — a significant increase

from the mere $3,000 he raised in 2016, according to the LA Times.

He's hopeful that the increase in funds will result in a better turnout than his 2016

bid, which, despite his loss, signaled that a change in the political winds could be on

the horizon.

"When I ran last year, I received 25 percent of the vote, which means I got 11 percent

more than the registered Republicans in the region, which means I transcended and got

Democrats and Independents to vote for me," Navarro told Breitbart News.

At a campaign rally outside of Waters' $4 million out-of-district mansion in Hancock

Park, an hour away from the 43rd District, a black supporter for Navarro said Waters

simply hasn't helped her community, according to a press release.

"We have had enough," the supporter said.

"She is not helping the black community…

Omar is for all Americans regardless of the color of their skin.

Omar is in touch with everybody in the community.

He wants what's best for American citizens, and that's the way it should be."

Waters would certainly have a hard time painting Navarro as a "racist" the way she has

infamously done to anyone who dares to disagree with her liberal policies.

While she spends her time needlessly calling for President Donald Trump's impeachment,

Navarro is on the ground in the 43rd district, talking to voters about what they really need

from their lawmakers and showing them how Waters has failed to look out for their best

interests.

It will be interesting to see if Navarro can be successful.

We certainly hope so.

The GOP tax proposal is really, really unpopular - Duration: 2:04.

-Republicans are forging ahead

with their promise to overhaul the U.S. tax code,

even with tricky negotiations

ahead and shaky support from key groups.

And while most conservatives say

that the GOP tax plan is broadly supported --

President Trump: I think we're gonna have great receptivity.

We've had great, great spirit.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.): This is not unpopular.

-Polling says otherwise.

Only 33 percent of Americans say

they support the Republican tax proposal,

with half saying that they do not.

Why?

Because most Americans think the plan will benefit the wealthy

at the expense of middle-income Americans.

Their perception isn't wrong.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office

said that under the Senate version,

taxpayers in the higher-income brackets

who earn more than $100,00

a year will get substantial tax cuts and benefits by 2027.

But those earning less than $75,000 a year

will be worse off in the long term largely

because of the reduction in federal aid for healthcare

and because the individual tax cuts

in the GOP proposal expire in 2026.

There are some particularly divisive parts of the plan.

One is its provision to lower the corporate tax rate

from 35 percent to 20 percent.

49 percent of Americans think that that's a bad idea.

Another one is to eliminate the deduction for state

and local income taxes.

59 percent don't want to see those deductions go away.

And Americans are divided on the decision

to eliminate the estate tax.

43 percent disagree with its elimination.

In addition to the general public's low support

for the proposal,

trade groups and small businesses

have their concerns with the plan

because of its pass-through provision

and permanent corporate tax cut.

And some hard-core conservatives aren't onboard

with the plan's impact on the national debt,

which would increase by $1.4 trillion

over the next decade.

So, who does support the tax plan?

About 60 percent of Republican voters,

which may be enough to get the bill to President Trump's desk.

This is why Liverpool's Simon Mignolet wasn't sent off against Stoke City - Duration: 4:04.

This is why Liverpool's Simon Mignolet wasn't sent off against Stoke City

Stoke manager Mark Hughes couldnt believe the goalkeeper didnt receive a red card - so why didnt he?.

Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool needed a bit of luck, even if he says it was the right decision.

Mark Hughes, meanwhile, could barely believe it, echoing the sentiments of many inside the bet365 Stadium on Wednesday night.

The incident in question, of course, was Simon Mignolet escaping a red card after bringing down Stoke Citys Mame Biram Diouf on the edge of the penalty area.

With Liverpool holding only a slender 1-0 lead at the time, going down to 10 men and being shorn of their first-choice goalkeeper could have altered the course of the game.

Instead, referee Martin Atkinson brandished only a yellow card and Mignolet stayed on the field to keep a clean sheet as Liverpool went on to earn a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The decision, though, remained a talking point long after the final whistle.

"This is a sending off, it's a free-kick," said former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, speaking on Match of the Day.

"It's outside the box, it's not a yellow.

The reason it's not is because he's ahead of (Joe) Gomez and he would've put the ball in an empty net.

"He's not done it on purpose but it's a red card.

They've got away with one and I understand why Mark Hughes is fuming.".

Many Liverpool fans have pointed to the triple jeopardy rule being altered last summer as a reason for Mignolet not being dismissed.

That rule had previously punished a goalkeeper making a foul inside the area with the triple whammy of conceding a penalty, being sent off and then having to serve a suspension.

This was changed to state "where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball".

However, the key point here is it only applies if the offence is inside the area.

And Mignolets foul was outside the box.

So why wasnt he sent off?.

Ultimately, it comes down to the decision of referee Atkinson.

And the official clearly considered Gomez to have been within distance of making a challenge on Diouf, therefore not making Mignolet the last man and having committed a foul that anywhere else on the pitch would be regarded a booking at most.

Whether everyone agrees on that, though, is another matter entirely.
