X Factor 2017: Outraged fans call for act to be AXED amid 'cheating' accusations
Last night, the X Factor contestants battled it out in the all-important semi-finals, each hoping to land a spot in the final.
Theremaining acts were given the task of performing a song in keeping with the Cool Britannia theme.
As a result, the aspiring stars belted out hits from the likes of Elton John, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles.
In contrast, The Cutkelvins — siblings Jay, Shereen and Kyle Cutkelvin — opted to perform their own original song, Nothing Like You.
Following their performance, head judge Simon Cowell, 58, — who mentors the Groups — praised the trio for being unique.
However, many fans were outraged that the act had seemingly ignored the theme and done their own thing.
The backlash has continued today, with some viewers taking to Twitter and accusing the group of cheating.
One angry fan tweeted: The Cutkelvins need to go as theyve now cheated twice.
So how is that fair that they are still in?.
Another ranted: Why were they allowed to sing their own song? The theme was best of Britannia and The Cutkelvins certainly are NOT. In agreement, a viewer posted: Ive already tweeted that The Cutkelvins should have been voted out last night because they didnt follow the theme of best of British by singing their own song.
Unjust.
Sorry Matt.As fans of the show will know all too well, Matt Linnen became the ninth person to leave the competition last night — with both him and The Cutkelvins left in the bottom two.
Despite the uproar, some have defended the Scottish trio, praising them for going with an original song.
Who cares if The Cutkelvins didnt stick to the theme? Cool Britannia is a s*** theme, one supporter reasoned.
This isnt the first time the sibling supergroup have been accused of cutting corners in the competition.
Earlier in the series, they were criticised during George Michael week for performing one of his covers as opposed to one of the icons own songs.
Taking to Twitter, one disgruntled fan said of the show: George Michael has so many incredible songs.
so why didnt The Cutkelvins sing one of them? We cant wait to see what the trio performs tonight, when The X Factor continues on ITV at 7.30pm.
