Bob Menendez: Donald Trump Isn't Committed To Ending Syria Crisis | For The Record | MSNBC - Duration: 5:56.
DIPLOMATIC AND HUMANITARIAN PARTS OF THIS IMPORTANT STORY,
THIS CRISIS. AND WE START WITH NEW JERSEY
SENATOR BOB MENENDEZ, FROM THE SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS KMEEL
WHO BACK IN 2013 ON THE COMMITTEE VOTED IN FAVOR OF THE
U.S. TAKING MILITARY ACTION IN SYRIA.
GOOD EVENING, SIR. >> GOOD EVENING.
DO YOU THINK SOME OF YOUR COLLEAGUES WHO DIDN'T VOTE WITH
YOU BACK IN 2013 HAVE REGRET TONIGHT?
>> WELL, THE COMMITTEE AS WHEN I WAS CHAIRMAN PASSED AT THE
REQUEST OF PRESIDENT OBAMA AN AUTHORIZATION FOR THE USE OF
MILITARY FORCE FOR THE PURPOSES OF ENDING THE CHEMICAL WEAPON
USAGE THAT ASSAD WAS USING AT THE TIME.
AND HE WENT TO THE G20 SUMMIT IN RUSSIA AND TOLD PUTIN I HAVE AN
AUTHORIZATION, AND IF YOU DON'T GIVE -- GET ASSAD TO GIVE UP THE
CHEMICAL WEAPONS, I'M GOING TO LOOK FORWARD TO USING IT.
AND THAT ULTIMATELY TURNED WHAT WE THOUGHT WERE ALL THE CHEMICAL
WEAPONS OVER TO A U.N. ENTITY. THE REALITY IS THAT, YOU KNOW,
WE ALSO AT THAT TIME GAVE PRESIDENT OBAMA CERTAIN
AUTHORITIES TO HELP MODERATE VETTED SYRIAN REBELS FIGHT THEIR
OWN CAUSE SO AMERICAN TROOPS DIDN'T HAVE TO BE THERE AND
UNFORTUNATELY THAT DIDN'T GO THE WAY WE WOULD HAVE HOPED WOULD BE
SEEN. THE CHEMICAL WEAPONS WERE
LARGELY TURNED OVER TO A U.N. ENTITY.
NOW WE SEE A RESURGENCE OF THIS EM THAT HAS A REAL CONSEQUENCE
AND RUSSIA, WHO WAS A PARTY AT THE TIME, IT'S JUST AMAZING TO
ME THAT IN THE PRESIDENT'S CONDEMNATION TODAY WHICH I'M'M
GLAD TO SEE AT LEAST HE CONDEMNS THE ATTACKS, BUT HE HAS NOT ONE
WORD ABOUT RUSSIA'S COMPLICITY IN THIS PROCESS.
>> THE PRESIDENT SAID TODAY IT CROSS A LOT OF LINES FOR ME,
MEANING HIM. TALKING ABOUT THE LITTLE BABIES,
OF COURSE, INNOCENT CIVILIANS KILLED.
WHAT IS THAT LINE? I KNOW THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA HAD
THAT FAMOUS RED LINE REMARK THAT EVERYONE KEEPS RAISING, BUT WHAT
IS THAT CROSSED LINE AND SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
WHAT WOULD YOU ADVISE HIM TO DO OR NOT TO DO?
>> WELL, I DON'T KNOW FOR THE PRESIDENT WHAT HE MEANS BY IT
CROSSED A LOT OF LINES FOR HIM AND WHAT HE INTENDS TO DO.
IT SEEMS TO ME THAT WHEN YOU CAN TALK ABOUT CROSSING A LINE BUT
YOU DON'T EVEN MENTION RUSSIA AS A PARTY THAT IS EMPOWERING ASSAD
AND GIVING HIM, FOR EXAMPLE, AIR SUPPORT, I THINK THAT THE
ATTACKS THAT TOOK PLACE ULTIMATELY TOOK PLACE BY
DROPPING FROM AIRCRAFT. THAT'S THE RUSSIANS.
AND THEIR ENGAGEMENT WITH THE IRANIANS THROUGH HEZBOLLAH THAT
ARE BOTH PROPPING UP ASSAD. SO, IT SEEMS TO ME YOU HAVE TO
CHALLENGE THE RUSSIAN AND THE IRANIANS TO SAY YOU JUST CAN'T
CONTINUE TO PROP UP ASSAD WITHOUT A CONSEQUENCE.
YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT VERY CLEAR IF YOU'RE GOING TO ENGAGE
ANYONE, IT SHOULD BE MODERATE VETTED SYRIAN REBELS TO LET THEM
FIGHT IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY SO YOU CAN CHANGE THE DYNAMICS.
RIGHT NOW BETWEEN RUSSIA AND IRAN'S ENGAGEMENT, THE PENDULUM
HAS SWUNG BACK TO ASSAD AND, YOU KNOW, HE BELIEVES THAT HE CAN
SUSTAIN AND SURVIVE THIS FIGHT. THAT DYNAMIC NEEDS TO CHANGE AND
THE DYNAMIC THAT NEEDS TO CHANGE THAT RUSSIA AND IRAN THINK THEY
CAN CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS PROXY WAR, ENGAGED IN SYRIA, WITHOUT
ANY CONSEQUENCE. >> ALL RIGHT.
THIS DISCUSSION BEGAN PRIMARILY
BACK IN 2012 ABOUT CHEMICAL WEAPONS AND, OF COURSE, NOW THE
LAST 36 HOURS EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT.
BUT THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS BETWEEN 2012 AND NOW THAT
THERE'S BEEN OTHER USE OF CHEMICAL WEAPONS AGAINST
CIVILIANS IN THAT AREA. I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S CONFIRMED
OR NOT, BUT SUDDENLY NOW YOU KNOW THE WORLD IS UNDERSTANDABLY
AND RIGHTFULLY HORRIFIED ABOUT WHAT WE'RE SEEING.
BUT HAVE WE NOT MONITORED THIS IN 2013?
HAVE THERE BEEN OTHER INCIDENTS OF CHEMICAL WEAPONS USED AGAINST
CIVILIANS THERE? >> THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER FORMS.
THE CHEMICAL WEAPONS AS WE UNDERSTOOD UNDER THE LISTING BY
THE U.N. OF WHAT IS A CHEMICAL WEAPON WAS LARGELY TURNED OVER
AND DESTROYED. BUT NOW OTHER ELEMENTS OF WHAT
WOULD BE -- WE WOULD CONSIDER A CHEMICAL WEAPON IS BEING USED BY
THE ASSAD REGIME WITH RUSSIA. AND, SO, AT DIFFERENT MOMENTS IN
TIME, THAT HAS BEEN A QUESTION, AFFIXING BLAME AND
RESPONSIBILITY HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE.
BUT THE REBELS DON'T HAVE AIRCRAFT.
THEY CANNOT DROP THIS TYPE OF BOMB ON CIVILIAN POPULATIONS.
SO, IT'S PRETTY CLEAR WHO IS RESPONSIBLE.
>> SO, WHAT IS YOUR ESTIMATION OF THE FACT THE PRESIDENT BLAMES
ASSAD, SYRIA RIGHTFULLY, HE BLAMES PRESIDENT OBAMA, AND I
THINK UNFAIRLY, AND HE DOESN'T MENTION RUSSIA.
SO, WHAT'S YOUR CONCLUSION FROM THAT?
>> WELL, MY CONCLUSION IS THAT HE IS NOT COMMITTED TO ACTUALLY
ENDING THE HORRIFIC SET OF HUMANITARIAN CATASTROPHES AND/OR
ENFORCING A RED LINE IF YOU'RE NOT WILLING TO TAKE ON RUSSIA.
AND THIS ADMINISTRATION HASN'T BEEN WILLING TO TAKE ON RUSSIA
IN ANY ITERATION WHATSOEVER,
WHETHER IT'S THE CYBER ATTACK ON OUR ELECTIONS, WHETHER IT'S
WHAT'S HAPPENED IN THE BALTIC S, THE ANNEXATION OF CRIMEA.
ABOVE ALL, THIS IS THE MOMENT I BELIEVE THE PRESIDENT MUST ACT
RESOLUTELY AGAINST RUSSIA BECAUSE THEY ARE EMPOWERING
ASSAD, OTHERWISE ASSAD WOULD BE GONE.
>> ONE QUICK QUESTION, MILITARY ACTION OR NOT?
>> WELL, I DON'T THINK AT THIS MOMENT YOU HAVE THAT CAPABILITY.
I DON'T THINK YOU CAN ENTER INTO SYRIA AND PUT AMERICAN BOOTS ON
THE GROUND AND BE SUCCESSFUL. WHAT YOU CAN BE DOING IS REALLY
ENGAGING ROBUSTLY IN HELPING MODERATE VETTED SYRIAN REBELS
FIGHT FOR THEMSELVES, CHANGING THE DYNAMIC ON THE GROUND, AND
THEN LEAD TO A POLITICAL SOLUTION, BUT THERE IS GOING TO
BE NO POLITICAL SOLUTION FOR SO LONG AS RUSSIA AND IRAN THINK
THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH WHAT THEY'RE DOING WITHOUT
CONSEQUENCE AND ASSAD BELIEVES HE CAN SURVIVE IT.
THEN THE EQUATION DOESN'T EVER

10 Words that Start with Silent Letters | English Pronunciation | Learn English for Free with Max - Duration: 5:00.
Okay.
Hi guys. Welcome back to English with Max.
Today I am doing a video that was actually requested
by one of my viewers. We are going to look at
ten words that start with silent letters.
The good news is that there are some
rules which apply here. The universe is
occasionally kind to us. In case you
haven't watched my videos I just want to
point out that I'm Australian, but I don't have a strong accent
and my pronunciation is close to British pronunciation.
The first word is gnome.
The rule here is that if a word starts with
GN, the G is silent. A gnome, in case
you're wondering, is basically a fat elf.
They like to make statues of them and
put them in gardens. Unfortunately I
can't physically show you one because
I'm currently living with my parents and
my mum hates them, basically. Gnome.
Word number two is knee. Again we have a rule.
How exciting. If a word starts with KN, then the K is silent.
So this word is knee.
Another common word that starts with
KN is know.
The third word is pneumonia.
If a word starts with PN, then the P is silent.
Pneumonia.
This is the British pronunciation and the American
pronunciation is something like "pnoomonia".
That same rule applies to word number four: pneumatic.
Pneumatic. That's the British pronunciation and the
American pronunciation is something like "pnoomatic".
Word number five is psychologist.
If a word starts with PS,
then the P is also silent. Psychologist.
The sixth word is psychiatrist.
Again, this word starts with PS, so the P is silent.
Psychiatrist.
Number seven is pseudo. Pseudo is technically not a word.
It's a prefix that means pretended or not real.
For example, pseudo-intellectual.
"Pseudo" is the British pronunciation and the
American pronunciation is something like "psoodo".
In Australia I think we use both.
Word number eight is tsunami.
I wasn't actually sure if I should include this
word because if you look in dictionaries
you'll see these phonetic symbols. As you
see, there is a T at the beginning.
Indeed, some people do say "tsunami", but in
practice nowadays lots of people say "sunami".
So they pretend that the T isn't there.
I wish I could say that there was a rule regarding words that started with TS,
but sadly there is not, as we will see with the next word.
Word number nine is tsar.
The tsars were the uh... you know, the former rulers of Russia.
In British English we don't pronounce the R so we see "tsah",
but in American English the R is pronounced, so it's something like "tsar".
The final word is wrinkle.
If a word starts with WR then the W is always silent.
You see this in quite a few common words.
For example, "write" like "write something down",
or "wrong". W-R-O-N-G.
Thanks very much for watching, guys.
Let me know in the comments if you've found any of these words difficult.
And also if there are any other words that you would like me to include
in another video. Once again, if you liked the video, please give me a thumbs up.
Don't forget to follow me on social media. I'll put the links in the info box.
And remember to subscribe.
See you next time!
The tsars were...
... mm, fuck.
rhguhgdrrblehrr
The rule here is that -
oh, there's a dog barking.
Sss... just... just scrap that, okay.

Vincent Gentile for Brooklyn District Attorney (Full) - Duration: 1:42.
My grandmother would always teach me: "You can't do what is right, unless you know what is right."
My name is Vincent Gentile. I´m a New York City councilman.
I'm very much a local boy. In South Brooklyn, I grew up in the Bay Ridge area.
My grandmother taught me about giving back, and about having a positive impact.
She always said to me: "If you believe in something, and it is the right thing, don´t give up."
Advocacy can work. Advocacy can produce what you´re hoping to produce.
I am entering into the race to become Brooklyn's next District Attorney.
The first job of a DA is to keep people safe. But, DA also has to give people hope.
That's my mission, and my goal as the new District Attorney.
I´ll make sure that we have a District office on the ground level storefront, so people can come in.
They can interact with us. We can help them. We can serve them.
The prosecutor's job is to do justice, without fear or favor.
That makes me the best person to carry on that important legacy that Ken Thompson left us.
The relationships that I've built over twenty years as an elected official, on the state level, the city level,
are important relationships that now, I can use for the benefit of the people of Brooklyn as the next District Attorney.

Will a Squirrel Girl TV Show Be a Mistake for Marvel? (Nerdist News w/ Jessica Chobot) - Duration: 4:12.
(clapping and cheering) - Marvel's latest announcement
has left us feeling squirrely.
Find out why on today's Nerdist News.
(squirrel chatter)
That's my version.
Squirrel Girl is coming to television,
so why aren't we more excited?
I don't know.
Ever since Marvel's quirkiest hero exploded in popularity,
fans have been eager to see her join the MCU.
There have been hashtags, online petitions,
and Tumblrs upon Tumblrs worth of speculative artwork.
Just last year, when actress Anna Kendrick
expressed interest in the role,
the internet exploded with a resounding yas
and provided photoshopped mockups,
proving just how Pitch Perfect she'd look
rocking that bushy brown tail.
With all that squirrel-powered enthusiasm in the air,
you'd think that Marvel's latest announcement
would get fans' whiskers twitching.
According to The Hollywood Reporter,
Squirrel Girl will be the star
of her very own television series
coming to the small screen sometime in 2018,
but instead, the response has been decidedly mixed.
So, why aren't we going more nuts?
Well, that announcement comes with quite a few caveats.
For one thing, this won't be one of the prestiged
Netflix Marvel shows or even an ABC joint
like Agents of Shield.
Squirrel Girl is going to be building her nest
on Freeform, a network with no experience
in the superhero game, unless you consider
lying while pretty a superpower.
What's more, the show will be a half-hour comedy
instead of an hour long adventure.
Now, while we're not totally opposed to that,
experimenting with tone and format
could add some variety to the increasingly familiar MCU,
their choice of show runner makes us a bit nervous,
who, up until this point, is best known
as one of the co-creators of Cougar Town.
And although, yes, you could describe
Courtney Cox's intake of wine on Cougar Town as truly heroic
and reminiscent of myself,
once again, it doesn't seem like quite the pedigree needed
to bring a beloved superhero like Squirrel Girl
to the small screen.
And b t dubs, if you had to go
with someone from the world of sitcoms,
maybe just maybe this is one of those situations
where a female creator would be better suited for the job.
Like seriously, New Girl is on the bubble, folks.
Did anyone check to see what their show runner,
Elizabeth Meriwether, is up to?
But aside from a new girl-esque Squirrel Girl sitcom
being an incredibly perfect idea
that Marvel should be embarrassed for not thinking of,
our biggest disappointment about
this Squirrel Girl announcement is that
it really isn't even a Squirrel Girl announcement.
Doreen Green won't be getting her very own show,
like she deserves.
Instead, she'll be the lead in an ensemble comedy
about the New Warriors.
Now, for those not in the know,
the New Warriors are kind of like the Teen Titans
to the Avengers' JLA.
They're the scrappy, teen superhero team
on the Marvel block,
but their books have never really had a comedic bend
aside from a brief run in the early 2000s
where they became stars of a reality TV show,
a run that ended in tragedy
when their actions caused a supervillain to blow up a school
which in turn kicked off the events of Civil War.
So yeah, not exactly the perfect groundwork
for a lighthearted superhero sitcom.
Of course, that's not really the big issue here.
The issue is Squirrel Girl doesn't deserve to be shoved
into some preexisting team short of her original team,
the Great Lakes Avengers, don't cha know.
She's proven herself more than capable
of holding the spotlight,
and her current comic is packed with enough story,
heart, and humor to carry multiple seasons worth
of her own sitcom.
However, there is some hope that Marvel will eventually
do right by her.
The announcement also mentions that if New Warriors
is successful, they could see all the characters involved
being granted spinoff series.
And you have to imagine that Squirrel Girl
will be at the head of that pack.
Maybe if the show is big enough,
we'll even get the thing we all really want,
a Squirrel Girl movie.
Hey, if Peter Parker can find his way
into the big screen MCU, then any animal powered
underaged superhero can.
But what do you guys think?
Are you excited for a New Warriors series,
or would you like to see Squirrel Girl
on her own in the MCU?
Let's discuss.

Weekly Planetary Astrology Forecast April 3-9, 2017
April 3-9, 2017 Communicator mercury backslides into? methodical Taurus this week. Mercury
is gaining mainstream recognition for good reason. With just a little observation, you
cant help notice the communication snafus that happen when ruler of communication Mercury,
retrogrades.
Retrogrades are good for all the re words. Redo, refocus, reinforce, relinquish, remove,
recover, reorganize, reinstate. Use your imagination. There are so many re words to choose
from. Its a great guide line for what to do when a planet is retrograde.
Mercury will be retrograde from April 9-May 3. Its not a time to move forward, but
to re-evaluate where youre at now and where you are coming from. Sometimes you will pick
up where you left off, and that can have to do with relationships too, people tend to
reconnect during retrogrades.
Are you where you want to be in life? Mercury in Taurus wants to know, Have you created
a stable secure base for your activities?
This Wednesday Saturn will turn Retrograde too. Saturn is in the honest expansive energy
of Sagittarius, busy exposing the lies and injustice of the world, forcing responsibility.
Backtracking, it gives you a chance to see to see if you finished what you started.
Are your beliefs supporting your growth and expansion? If not, toss em. Stay in integrity.
You dont need credentials for that. Memes are thought virus we pick up. Make sure you
drop the ideas that are not yours to begin with.
Saturn will retrograde until August Allowing you to completely review areas of your life
relating to education, philosophy, freedom, truth, and all that is right and good.
Your intuition is your guide now- always really- but now you just might see the importance
of new information, something you may have disregarded in the last 6 months or so.
With Mercury traveling through Taurus our minds are particularly focused on maintaining
things as they should be. Stubbornly clinging to what one has rather than take any sort
of real risk is a common Taurus trait.
Stable, solid, plodding, Taurus Mercury? in retrograde slows us down, way down. So we
can take stock with a sense of stability and permanence.
Watch for tendency to dig your heals in and refuse any sort of change. When in resistance
remind yourself, Change is the only thing that can be counted on.
Standing your ground may be what needs doing. Try not to alienate
people with your refusal to negotiate. Or maybe do, it depends on what is right for
you. Sometimes relationships are better done than tolerated. Youll figure that out.
Mercury in Taurus gives you a nose for pleasure. Taurus is ruled by Venus and loves to indulge
all the senses. Be in the moment and find what brings contentment. May it be simple
and sweet.
Wednesday Planet of action Mars, and ever evolving Pluto have a potent pow wow. This
should feel like power. Power to make a difference. We can drop any remaining victim roles we
play and do what we know is true. Things can really shift once we get on board with the
fast changes taking place.
Friday the Sun and Jupiter have totally different agendas. The sun wants to do its
own thing. Jupiter wants everyone to get the big Picture. The sun is in Aries, Jupiter
is in Libra, Aries natural opposite, Its like a tug of war. Luckily both planets are
into expanding and being all you can be. So they want similar things.
As with all opposition energy it feels like it has to be either/or, but in reality it
needs to be this and that. Stress causes growth.
Saturday planet of what we value Venus,is locking horns with Mr. get real-Saturn believes
in long term value, leaving a legacy, building wealth.
Venus can be more indulgent while it is backtracking through Pisces, shimmery pleasures. It will
go forward again on April 15. It wants glamour and other worlds. Beware of a tendency to
escape. There is a fine line between an addict and an artist- often a blurry line.
Keep your feet firmly planted and open your heart and mind to all the possibilities. Serious
art with long term value can be created by such stress. Self expression needs to happen.
What are you holding back?
Sunday the ninth Mercury is down for the count. Three weeks of clever tricks. In Taurus until
the 20th, you will be able to have a very steady mind when it moves to Aries on
the 20th watch the way your thoughts and communications shift pace. Suddenly you will find yourself
impatient, itching for new adventures. Review the circumstances carefully Wait until
it goes direct May first to make any big changes.
A busy week of shifts for sure. Best to roll with all the changes, Think of you but also
think of whats best for everyone. Win/win is the only way
to go. Be Bold. Lead from the heart.
