Dr. Neil Flenniken: Sleep apnea is a process where when somebody's sleeping, they actually
stop breathing, that's the definition of sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea can come from a central place in the brain, or it can come from the fact
that the airway is being closed off when you fall asleep.
Your muscles, your jaw relaxes.
The gold standard of treating sleep apnea is using a CPAP.
But depending on where you are, maybe you're mild, moderate, and sometimes severe cases,
we can make dental appliances that will actually help hold your jaw forward, and allow you
to have a much better sleep without having to wear CPAP.
