What is successful weight loss?
Our society often correlates weight loss success with a number on the scale, but it's really
much more than that.
I'm Sharon at BonVie Weight Loss & Nutritional Wellness where we focus on helping you lose
body fat and assume a healthier relationship with food.
Today lets look at some better ways to translate what successful weight loss
really means other than chasing that number on your scale.
Firstly, it's all about being at a weight that makes you feel your very best.
Each of us have certain markers as to how happy we are with our weight and how that
motivates us to follow a plan to lose it.
This may be about self-esteem and personal body image.
For perhaps it means a certain shape which you see reflected back in the mirror.
Or how tight or loose your clothes feel.
If you don't feel comfortable in your cute clothes because they are too tight around
the middle, that can affect your self-esteem and pleasure in wearing those clothes and going out with friends.
When you achieve a thinner waist you're going to feel better about yourself.
Or maybe how you are perceived by family and friends is a sign of success.
And for some, losing weight has more to do with having energy, stamina, and the desire
to exert their bodies.
Even individuals who were formerly athletic will lose their commitment and self confidence
when they have packed on the lbs.
This adds to a downward cycle of self esteem, over eating, lethargy and subsequent additional
fat gain.
For them, vitality and renewed engagement in life by losing weight can spell success.
Whatever your motivations, it's really about feeling satisfied and happy with who you are.

And then there are health issues when thinking of what successful weight loss is.
If you have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or pancreatitis, or your blood pressure is
off the charts, you may be strongly motivated to bring those numbers down.
Some people are motivated by avoiding preventable disease and illness in the first place.
For those individuals, that will feel like a great achievement.
But true success can only be measured if it can be sustained, right?
Can you keep the weight off?
There are few things more disappointing than losing a significant amount of weight and
"getting your body back" only to regain that fat all over again.
The diet Yo-Yo is very tough.
