Waching daily Apr 11 2017

This is an update in my continuing coverage of KIC 8462852 or Boyajian's star for April

11, 2017.

For the extensive backstory on this star see my other video updates on this channel.

One does not often have to do double takes when reading scientific papers, they are what

they are, but occasionally they throw you a curve ball.

Now, before I get into the details of this paper, I want to caution that I really don't

think this is going to turn out to be anything.

But nevertheless add yet another odd chapter to the story of Boyajian's star.

In a paper released today by Nathaniel Tellis and Geoffrey Marcy, link in the description

below, they detail a search they conducted of 5600 nearby stars thought to be suitable

for alien civilizations to develop.

Specifically, they were searching for laser emissions from those stars, whether intentional

or accidental, that could only be of artificial origin.

Out of those 5600 stars, they found no convincing detections.

While this does not rule out civilizations that could be present at those stars, it does

further bolster the idea that the answer to the Fermi Paradox is simply that while the

universe may be teeming with simple life, it gets orders of magnitude more difficult

for life to evolve to a state of high intelligence.

And even if intelligent life does evolve on a planet, the conditions have to be just so

for a technological civilization to arise.

In their search, the scientists came up with 5023 potential detections that they considered

to be false positives.

They divided these into three categories, ones created by defects in the equipment,

ones created by cosmic rays or other particles striking the detectors, and lastly actual

detections either coming from the target stars or from some earthly source.

However, they found several unusual cases, including a case of unexplained strange laser

light coming from an unknown source on earth.

But at the top of the list of interesting candidate detections of potential laser light

just happens to be ... you guessed it, KIC 8462852.

Now, I'm not an astronomer and I'm still waiting to see if anyone disputes the explanation

given in the paper for it being a false positive, if that happens I will drop everything and

make a video.

But it seems highly likely that the detection was indeed false and it's merely a coincidence

that it happened to come from that star.

But with all of the accumulated weirdness surrounding this star, more weirdness entering

the mix does raise an eyebrow.

It all stems from a saturated pixel.

How that pixel became saturated, the researchers note, is inconsistent with monochromatic light.

In the paper they do a comparison between an artificial light source and the detection

and rule out light entering the telescope as the culprit.

But there's some ambiguity there too, if the saturation was due to a cosmic ray, it's not

clear how it did it to produce the effect, so all you can say is that it was probably

a cosmic ray.

Still though, the way the KIC 8462852 section in this paper is worded, and given the controversy

around the star, we may not have heard the last about this event.

We shall see.

Crews evaluating downtown building for threat of collapse - Duration: 7:01.

FROM THE KOIN 6 NEWS ROOM,

THIS IS BREAKING NEWS.

KEN: BREAKING NEWS, PORTLAND

FIRE IS ON THE SCENE OF A FIRE

AND POTENTIAL BUILDING COLLAPSE

IN DOWNTOWN PORTLAND.

JENNY: IT'S HAPPENING AT THE

CORNER OF 5TH AND CLAY.

THAT'S WHERE OUR LISA BALICK IS

THERE LIVE WITH THIS BREAKING

STORY.

LISA?

LISA: WE

ARE ON SOUTHWEST FORTH

BETWEEN CALAIS AND COLUMBIA.

AROUND 11:00 THIS MORNING,

PEOPLE ON THE THIRD AND FOURTH

FLOOR SAID ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE

WAS DEBRIS THAT STARTED FALLING.

EVERYONE WAS EVACUATED FROM THE

BUILDING, A BIG CONCERN THERE

WERE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE, THAT THE

BUILDING COULD COLLAPSE.

THE BUILDING HOUSES

OHSU, EBAY,

EVEN A KINDERGARTEN.

EVERYONE HAS BEEN EVACUATED

SAFELY.

WE HAVE SEEN FIREFIGHTERS INSIDE

MAKING SURE EVERYONE WAS OUT.

THEY DON'T THINK THERE IS

ANY

KIND OF STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE

BUILDING RIGHT NOW BUT THEY HAVE

A RESCUE TEAM ON SCENE.

THE FIREFIGHTERS ARE ALSO HERE.

LET ME TALK TO

RICK CHAPMAN OVER

HERE.

WHAT IS THE LATEST ON THE

SITUATION?

WHAT WE HAVE

IS SOME EVIDENCE

OF A POSSIBLE COLLAPSE HERE.

THAT BOWING

THAT YOU SEE ON THE

OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING.

WE BELIEVE THAT DAMAGE YOU ARE

LOOKING AT IS NOT STRUCTURAL.

WE BELIEVE THAT IS PART OF THE

EXTERIOR FACADE OF THE BUILDING.

THAT IS DONE BY A TECH RESCUE

TRAIN -- TEAM THAT

IS TRAINED TO

WORK IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.

WE HAVE EVACUATED THE

BUILDINGS.

WE HAVE A STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

FROM THE CITY WHO UNDERSTANDS A

LITTLE BETTER HOW THAT KIND OF

DAMAGE CAN PRESENT ANYONE KNOW

THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE ON

THIS.

LISA: HOW DID THE CALL COMING ON

THIS?

PEOPLE INSIDE THE BUILDING

RECOGNIZED SOMETHING, I DON'T

KNOW IF THAT WAS SOUNDS OR

LOOKED UP.

AS YOU CAN SEE, IT IS PRETTY

SIGNIFICANT.

LISA: TRAFFIC IS BLOCKED OFF

YEAR BECAUSE THERE IS A CONCERN

THERE COULD BE SOME KIND OF A

COLLAPSE.

BASICALLY, WE CREATE

A

COLLAPSE ZONE, AN AREA, IF THERE

WAS A COLLAPSE.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS

OUT OF THAT AREA.

WE HAVE DONE THAT AND NOW WE

FEEL WE HAVE TIME TO GET OUR

STRUCTURAL ENGINEER TO GET OUT

HERE AND LOOK AT IT.

LISA: I AM GOING TO TALK TO SOME

FOLKS THAT WERE INSIDE AT THE

TIME.

WHAT DID YOU HEAR?

I HEARD A LOUD BANG

.

I IGNORED IT, I THOUGHT IT WAS

THE RECYCLING BIN.

AFTER THAT, MY BOSS CAME

THROUGH

AND SAID EVERYONE NEEDS TO

EVACUATE NOW.

SO WE STARTED TO GRAB OUR STUFF

AND LEFT.

LISA: YOU WERE ALSO INSIDE, AND

WITH A DIFFERENT COMPANY AND

WHAT DID YOU SEE?

WE WERE ON THE SECOND FLOOR,

WE COULD SEE STUFF ALL AND.

WE WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT

WHAT WAS GOING ON.

TWO MINUTES LATER THE FIRE ALARM

WENT OFF AND THE CALL FOR

EVACUATION.

LISA: DID YOU FEEL ANY MOVEMENT

FROM THE BUILDING?

NO, THE DEBRIS OF FALLEN WAS

THE FIRST THING WE WERE AWARE

OF.

IT WAS WEIRD.

EVERYONE GRABBED THEIR STUFF AND

WE LEFT.

LISA: YOU WERE ALSO OUTSIDE THE

BUILDING, WHAT DID YOU SEE?

I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT

IN

THE BACK, I HEARD THE CRASH, IT

SOUNDED METALLIC.

I LOOKED UP AND THE WALL WAS

BUBBLING -- AND BUCKLING,

MATERIAL FALLING ON THE ROOF

BELOW.

I DECIDED I WOULD GO BACK TO THE

FRONT OF THE BUILDING RATHER

THAN GOING DOWN THE BACK.

LISA: AT THAT POINT, PEOPLE

STARTED TO EVACUATE THE

BUILDING?

I GOT UP TO THE SIXTH FLOOR,

WHERE I WORK, AND I CALLED THE

COMPANY THAT MAINTAINS THE

BUILDING.

THEY SAID WE HAVE SOMEBODY ON

THE WAY, AND THEN THE ALARMS

WENT OFF, AND EVERYONE

EVACUATED.

LISA: FIRE

ALARMS WERE THE BIG

SIGN FOR EVERYONE TO GET OUT

QUICKLY.

THAT IS HOW MOST PEOPLE KNEW

THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND NEEDED

TO GET OUT.

KEN: THANK YOU.

DAN TILKIN IS LIVE AT THE SCENE

AS WELL.

YOU HAVE BEEN TALKING TO SOME

OTHER PEOPLE WHO WERE EVACUATED.

DAN:

WE ARE ON TOP OF THE

PARKING GARAGE ON THE NINTH

FLOOR DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM WHERE

THIS HAPPENED.

YOU GET A BIRDS EYE VIEW FROM

HERE.

AS LISA WAS TALKING ABOUT, YOU

CAN SEE THE SIDE OF THE BUILDING

THEIR COLLAPSING.

FIVE SECTIONS DOWN, AND THEN YOU

COUNT ACROSS,

11 OR SO SECTIONS

ACROSS.

IT SPANS THE FOURTH FLOOR FROM

OUR VIEW.

THIS IS CALLED THE FIFTH AVENUE

BUILDING.

MOST OF THE PEOPLE THAT WORK IN

HEARING EITHER WORK FOR EBAY OR

OHSU, I'M TOLD BY A MAN THAT

WORKS IN THE BUILDING.

PEOPLE KNOW THE FEDEX OFFICE IS

ON THE FIRST FLOOR.

THEY THINK IT IS A SIDING ISSUE

NOT A STRUCTURAL ISSUE.

WE DON'T KNOW IF MOISTURE GETS

BEHIND THERE IS SOMETHING

SHIFTS.

NOT THE NEWEST BUILDING, SO OVER

TIME THINGS LIKE THIS COULD

POSSIBLY HAPPEN.

I WANT TO INTERVIEW SOMEONE WHO

IS NEXT TO ME HERE.

[INDISCERNIBLE]

I WORK ON THE NINTH FLOOR,

JUST GOT OUT OF MY MEETING, HAD

GOTTEN TO MY DESK WHEN THE FIRE

ALARMS WENT OFF.

THEY SAID IT WAS NOT A DRILL.

THE FIRE ALARM WAS

ANNOUNCING A

RECORD MESSAGE.

WE EVACUATED TO THE STAIRWELL.

I SAW THAT EVERYONE WAS

EVACUATED FROM ALL FLOORS.

WE HEADED OUT TO OUR RENDEZVOUS

POINT AROUND PARK.

DAN:

YOU ARE SHOW ME A PICTURE

OF CHILDREN IN CRIBS.

THAT'S RIGHT, THERE IS A

KINDERGARTEN ON THE FIRST FLOOR.

THEY EVACUATED OUT AND I SAW

THEM WHEELING THE CRIBS UP THE

SIDEWALK.

I GOT A QUICK PICTURE OF THAT.

THERE ARE SOME YOUNG CHILDREN

DOWN THERE.

JENNY:

IT APPEARS OUR SIGNAL IS

FREEZING UP.

WE ARE LOOKING LIVE AT THIS

BUILDING DOWNTOWN.

THEY THINK IT IS

JUST ON THE

SIDE, NOT THE INTERIOR, BUT THEY

ARE STILL EARLY INTO THIS.

A LOT OF PEOPLE INSIDE AT THE

TIME HEARD SOME NOISE, THE ALARM

WENT OFF, AND THEN THEY GOT OUT

OF THERE.

AGAIN, THIS IS ONLY A FEW BLOCKS

FROM WHERE WE ARE, DIRECTLY WEST

OF THE 24 HOUR FITNESS DOWNTOWN

OFF OF CLAY.

YOU CAN SEE THE FIREFIGHTERS

EVALUATING THE SITUATION.

Top 15 Tweaks We Want for Nintendo Switch's OS & UI - Duration: 7:58.

The Nintendo Switch OS may not be the sleekest OS ever--oh how I'll always love you GameCube

menu--but it's definitely fast and functional, which to be fair, are what matter most.

And that is certainly a nice change of pace coming from the Wii U's horrifically slow

operating system.

But for as functional as it is--it's not perfect, and things can always be improved.

And since we now live in a time of constant patches and updates, where Operating Systems

are updated continuously throughout their lifespans, we decided to put together a list

of the top 15 tweaks and additions that we would love to see made to Nintendo Switch.

Listen, Nintendo, being aware of how much battery life your controllers have left is

pretty important.

So why the hell do I have to go out of my way to the controller screen just to see how

much juice I have left?.

Why not put a battery life bar right next to the controller icon on the main menu?

Look at all that spare room you have!

Speaking of battery life, Nintendo gets it when it comes to the Switch console itself,

allowing you to display the exact percentage remaining right on the home screen.

That's useful!

But with how variable the battery life can be, since it changes game to game, I think

they could take it a step farther, and provide an actual estimate of how much time you have

left with the current game.

Wouldn't it be far more useful to know that you have 30 minutes left to play Zelda instead

of a more ambiguous 25% battery life?

At first, I kind of liked how easy it was to Switch user accounts on the Switch, since

the system prompts you to use which one to use whenever you access the eShop or start

a game.

Every.

Single.

Time.

And now that I've done it hundreds of times in the 6 weeks or so I've had the Switch,

it's getting a little tiring.

Look, you already display every user account on the Home Screen--why not let us tap on

one of them and keep it until we want to change?

Problem solved!

And it's still far easier than most other systems, so it's a win/win.

Okay, so maybe this is more my bad for accidentally posting my friend code in a video, but when

you have dozens of friend invites, it's a little annoying to go through them one by

one to approve or deny on an indivudal basis--especially since this is probably the slowest part of

the Switch UI.

It would be much appreciated if we could simply accept or deny every friend invite at once.

The Nintendo Switch's eShop is fine I guess...but it feels a little unrefined.

Especially on the TV, where it feels cramped, with text and icons far bigger than they need

to be.

Then there's also some weird slowdown whenever the icons change sizes.

Oh, and please let me save my Credit Card info I'm tried of having to reneter my credit

card every time I want to buy something.

It's especially weird because you could save your Credit Card info on the 3DS and

Wii U, so why not here?

I mean, I want to give you my money!

It just shouldn't be this hard to do so.

Nintendo, it's time to bring back the Activity Log!

(See what I did there?)

Look, I'll be the first to admit, it's something I never thought I'd miss...but

now that it's gone, I want it back.

And the weird thing is, the Switch already clearly tracks your game activity as you can

see some of it on your own or your friends user profile--you just can't see it all.

So come on Nintendo, we know you have the means--let us see all the details for ourselves!

I love how easy it to take pictures.

Click!

There it is!

And it's pretty easy to share it on social media too.

But it could be even easier.

As is, you have to snap the pic, then click Home, navigate to the Album, and then reselect

the picture.

Instead, I propose that if you press Home right after taking a picture--say within a

couple of seconds--it should take you right to that picture in that album, from where

you can even more easily share it.

Speaking of sharing pictures, I want more control over them!

Being able to crop, zoom, and rotate would be a great start, and some more font options

would be great addition too.

It shouldn't take me 10 minutes to add rainbow colored text to my picture about double rainbows!

ANd while we're going all out, now would be a perfect time to bring back the stamps

from the Wii U--but allow them on a Universal basis instead of a per-game basis.

Okay, yeah, I know Nintendo has said video recording is eventually coming--but that doesn't

change the fact I want this feature since, like yesterday.

And I know exactly how it should be implemented too--by holding the Snapshot button for a

second or two to start the recording, then again to end it.

Then combine that with my precious Snapshot shortcut suggstion, but this time for sharing

to YouTube--and I'll be set.

So simple.

Much fun.

I really do love how easy it is to share pictures to social media...and yet, it's a little

weird that I can't access the very things things I--or any else else shares--from the

Switch itself.

What I"m getting at is, I would love a friend feed where you could see exactly what your

friends are sharing from their Switch...hey, that sounds a little like MIiverse doesn't

it?

The Wii and WIi U spoiled me.

The Wii, because the pointer controls made typing slightly less tedious.

And the Wii U was even better because of the full keyboard on the touchscreen--which granted,

the Switch has too--but only in handheld form.

When it's docked, it's back to the old-school hunting and pecking method and that kind of

sucks.

A good solution would be to add a cursor that's controlled with the gyroscope, mimicking how

it worked on the Wii.

Hell, there already is an optional cursor in some parts of the OS!

Just make it motion-controlled instead and you'd be set!

This is a super small thing, but there's something missing when I turn on my Switch.

It goes right to this boring-ass Lock screen, then then to the Home Screen.

The very first time you turn on the Switch console, you're treated to a cool little

animation of the Switch logo clicking into place, then opening like a gate...and then

you never see it again.

Why?!

Selecting a game should be better.

The row of icons isn't the worst thing ever, but it's not terribly convenient that you

can only ever see a handful of games at a time and you have to scroll past each one

to find the one you're looking for.

Oh, and if you have more than 12 games, there's a chance the one you're looking for won't

even be on the main menu at all, forcing you to go to the end of the line and select the

All Software screen instead.

Hey, wait a second--this screen's way better!

Why isn't THIS on the Home Screen instead?

Hey Nintendo, make that an option.

So there is no way to backup your save files on Nintendo switch.

It's locked to your system.

And that's a problem, because there have already been reports of people sending their

Swich's in for repair and getting it back with everything cleared out.

Oh, sorry, did you want to keep that 100+ hour Zelda save file?

Well too bad.

That is simply unacceptabke in this day in age.

Which is why the Switch needs Cloud Saving--where all your saves are automatically backed up

online, so you can retreive them from whichever Switch you login from.

Hell, Nintendo already does this with their mobile games, like Super Mario Run and Miitomo--they

clearly know how!

Of course, I understand that Cloud Saving would be costly to run, so I wouldn't expect

it to be free--but it might make Nintendo's online subscription service a little more

compelling, wouldn't it?

Despite all of the suggestions so far, I really do like the Switch UI...except it's just

a little bare looking, wouldn't you agree?

It doesn't quite have the warmth or charm of Nintendo's past OS's...which means

this is the perfect opportunity to bring back the custom themes feature from the Nintendo

3DS!

Granted, I didn't care about them much then--but now that that the Switch has a big beautiful

screen, that you can dock to put on an even bigger screen--it's something that I know

I would appreciate far more this time around.

Especially with how socially-inclined the Switch is compared to the 3DS.

Look, Nintendo, all I'm saying is if you give me a custom Moo Moo Meadows theme that

plays that beautiful music, I will give you all the money...as long as I don't have

to reenter my credit card number one again.

So there you have it, the Top 15 tweaks I'd love to see added to the Nintendo Switch's

UI.

But what do you think?

What would you like to see added?

Let us know by posting in the comments below!

15 AMAZING Statistics For 2050! - Duration: 9:38.

15th Amazing Statistics For 2050

15.

World Population- According to the United Nations, the current population of the world

is at 7.3 billion and is expected to grow even more.

It's projected to reach 8.5 billion people by 2030 and by 2050, it's expected to reach

9.7 billion.

China and India are currently the world's two largest countries.

Each country has more than a population of 1 billion, but surprisingly India is expected

to exceed China's population.

India's population is projected to have 40 million total, and China is expected to

increase by 25 million people.

According to Pew Research, America is also likely to increase in size faster than East

Asian and European countries.

By 2050, the U.S is estimated to grow by 89 million people.

The Pew Research organization also predicts that Germany, Japan, and Russia will decrease

their population by 10%.

14.

Environment Forecasts- A few years ago the Organization for Economic Co-operation and

Development painted a depressing picture of what is happening to life on Earth if we don't

take action to preserve nature.

At least one-third of global biodiversity has already been defunct with further loss

expected to increase by 2050.

Forecasts like these are probably well known among those who activists or aware of environmental

issues, but aside from damaging the environment, we are also killing ourselves in the process.

Let's take this as a warning that we should try to raise awareness and be diligent in

our efforts to conserve our planet for many years to come.

13.

Animal Extinction- With climate change expecting to steer a quarter of plants and land animals

into extinction 1 in 10 plant and animals expected to be gone in the next 30 years,

research shows that if we don't decrease emissions, this drastic action could lead

to more extinction in the next decade.

The emission of greenhouse gases, made particularly by the U.S is escalating the situation.

If humanity continues to burn coal, gas, oil at this rate, up to one-third of all life

forms will be lost by 2050.

12.

Food of the Future- The world is demanding more meat every single day, and the request

for meat and protein is estimated to increase up to 80% by 2050.

However, with such a growing market, humanity could face a protein deficit if we don't

change our eating habits now.

Beef burgers or in-vitro could be the world's alternative solution to meet these requirements.

Scientists first cultivated in-vitro meat back in 2013.

Researchers took muscle cells from a cow and grew it in rings inside a nutrient solution.

It costs around $385,000 to produce.

But urban farming looks very likely as green space is becoming insufficient.

11.

Vehicle Numbers- The International Transport Forum predict the global car count could reach

2.5 billion by 2050.

The market eruption in China plays a significant factor in overall vehicle population growth,

with a total of 16.8 vehicles in operation.

Currently, the world creates 87 million oil barrels per day and with 2 billion or more

cars on the planet, we would need at least 120 million bpd.

After all, transportation accounts for 23% of the globe's greenhouse gas discharge

so if consumers keep buying cars, then vehicle use and fuel efficiency must be managed.

10.

Family Diversity- Over the past several decades America has grown ethnically, and the trend

is continuing to increase.

A poll conducted by the Pew Research Center discovered that Americans aged 18 to 29 support

interracial relationships, making it an all time high.

The Census Bureau predicts by 2050 approximately 86 million people will be of mixed race.

But surprisingly the birth for unmarried mothers have decreased for the first time in years.

The average American family is also expected to downsize as millennials are having only

one or two babies or none at all.

The number women are also increasing in the workplace, approximately 70% of mothers with

young children contribute to a major portion of the workforce.

It is also common for dads to stay home with the kids instead of staying at the office,

this surge is likely to increase in the future as well.

9.

Mental Illness and Diseases- The projection of sickness and mental illnesses are alarming

to United States health officials who say these increasing numbers call for interventions

if these numbers keep on rising.

Alzheimer's is the sixth-leading cause of death in America as well as the fifth leading

cause among seniors who are 65 years or older.

By 2050, this number is estimated to double due to the aging of the population.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention also reports that by 2050 1 in 3 people could

have type 2 diabetes.

With 1 in 10 Americans with Type 2 diabetes, these numbers could also double if not triple

in the next thirty years.

8.

Food Shortages- A growing population means an increase for food and water.

The United Nation, Food, and Agriculture Organization stated to provide for a population of 9 billion

in 2050; the globe will need to expand its food productivity.

The FAO also predicts by 2050 the demand for food will lead to an additional 70 million

hectares being turned into agricultural land.

Agricultural scientists are aware of how to prevent the disastrous effects of fertilizer

use.

But this means problems when it comes to obtaining the proper education and technology to make

these changes and available for those who need it.

7.

Oldest and Youngest People- The rest of the world is graying faster than the United States.

In 2010, the global median age was expected to be people who are 37 to 40 years old in

2050.

By then the majority of people from Germany, Japan, and South Korea are estimated to be

older than fifty years old.

Plus several Latin American countries, who are younger than the United States will be

older than America by 2050.

Many countries including the United States are also expected to see the share of their

residents who are 60 or older exceed the percentage that is younger than 15 by the middle of the

century.

6.

Space Exploration- In the U.S. many Americans are hopeful and optimistic about the possibilities

of more space exploration.

Back in 2010, the Smithsonian magazine and Pew Research conducted a survey.

They found that 63% of people expected astronauts to reach Mars and 53% of Americans believed

that by 2050 ordinary citizens would be able to travel in space.

The United States government is currently developed methods and negotiating on how space

exploration should be conducted shortly.

Several space agencies are focusing on their directives and objectives and believe the

possibility of at least one manned mission to Mars is an opportunity of 2050.

5.

Minorities will be the Majority- According to the U.S. Census Bureau by 2050, the minorities

will be the majority in the United States.

The Census Bureau's chief states that higher fertility is one factor as well as immigration.

Among those groups to rise in numbers will be the Hispanic population.

By then, it is estimated 62% of the America's children will be minorities and of that 39

% are estimated to be Hispanic.

Native Americans are expected to rise by 2%, and Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians

are also predicted to double, from 1.1 million to 2.6 million.

Plus, many Americans identify themselves as a mixed raced, and these numbers are also

expected to double if not triple in the next several years.

4.

Ocean Loss- The World Economic Forum predicted that the planet's oceans would be filled

with plastic packaging rather than fish by 2050.

The forums research found that 32% of plastic materials winds up in collection systems and

with the use of plastics have increased in the past 30 years; this means that the ocean's

wildlife is threatened.

In fact, the world could face a possibility of an ocean without fish by 2050 due to the

effects of restructuring the fishing industry as well.

With many countries relying heavily on fishing to survive, there is an increase in the fishing

market but no the stock of fishing capacity.

3.

Solar Power could potentially be the globe's biggest energy source as turning the sun's

bright rays into power is become cheaper and readily available.

Back in 1972, it cost $75 per watt for the average consumer.

However today it's relatively inexpensive, and by 2050, solar power could produce 27%

of the planet's energy.

According to research conducted by the International Energy Agency, this would make it the world's

largest source of electricity.

If this does occur in the near future, the collaboration of emissions savings could offset

about six billion tons of carbon dioxide each year.

This is roughly equal to all current carbon emission from the United States energy sector.

2.

Existing Jobs?- When most people think of 2050, they imagine robots and a futuristic

job market.

According to Oxford University economists, they believe 40% of job roles will be taken

over by automation, and the future of work will be multifaceted and fast paced.

This means future workers needs to be highly functional and adaptable in any environment.

Workers must be able to juggle two or three roles at a time, so education will play a

prominent role in aiding people to develop the proper skills.

For many businesses, this means being updated on the newest technological advances.

People need to start working better and faster in a digital environment, and it might be

a cheaper option to employ robots instead of humans.

Not only will robots be efficient when it comes to productivity but it reduces accidents

and saves time.

But then what kind of jobs will be available for humans in the future?

1.

Immortality Possibility- The thought of being immortal is something only humans can dream

of.

To evade death would be playing God and the opportunity to obtain some fountain of youth

seems like millions of years away.

Or is it?

In fact, Google's director of engineering suggests the ability to transfer the human

mind to a computer program could be possible by 2050.

This is a phenomenon called "The Singularity" which showcases the moment when technological

advancement would have exceeded the human brainpower.

Kimberly Drew and Rashayla Marie Brown: Making Art for the Internet - Duration: 4:45.

To your point earlier about wanting to have this

grand moment of being like, "I'm deactivating!"

I always will be like so ready to be like, "I'm deleting my gram."

And some people will care; some people won't.

But it's such an interesting –

A lot of people will care.

It's a interesting thing to do.

I love the drama.

Yeah.

I love – – Right.

– the constant threat where you're like

either these platforms won't exist anymore, like Vine,

or I'm gonna delete it, and life will go on.

I don't know.

It's an interesting thing, which has nothing to do with this talk.

No, I think it is relevant.

It actually makes me think about

two artists that I've really been thinking about a lot

that I wanted to kind of bring into this conversation

– David Leggett's show at Gallery 400.

I think there's a couple more days left on that.

If y'all haven't seen it, go.

It's – – I'm going tomorrow.

– so good.

So good.

But just for the sake of us having a conversation about it,

David has a blog, and he, every day, is posting drawings.

And a lot of times, they're in response to things that people ask him to draw

on the Tumblr blog. And a lot of these – he has

– so for that reason, he has a very active social media presence in that sense.

But you're not gonna see him personally posting a lot of details and minutia of his day-to-day life.

And if you do see any of those details, it's gonna show up in his work;

that you'll see that in the painting in the gallery.

And Martine Syms also makes work about net art

and essentially this concept of what is a black net art aesthetic,

but she doesn't have a social media presence

other than a Twitter, where she just will,

very occasionally, post things that are just

– they're not even super interesting to be quite honest.

I mean no shade, but –

– Don't be talking about my girl. – they're just –

– I mean I'm just saying they're just kind of like – they're just real – okay – simple.

It wasn't trying to be something really climactic or super –

It's kinda like an anti-performance. – arty.

Exactly.

And I know that she's really interested in that concept of anti-performance, as well.

And I love Fred Moten's notes on non-performance and blackness, as well.

But yeah, but I have been thinking about that,

the artists who are making work specifically about the internet

or some kind of engagement with it,

but they don't actually post the minutia of their day-to-day life on the internet.

And what that type of relationship to – I don't know – I wonder if I wasn't posting

myself and my image and my family and my vacations,

would that, then, kind of make me feel like,

"Oh, there's some space to make work about the internet"?

'Cause in the space that I'm in right now, I don't really feel truly compelled

to make work about the internet.

I mean I think it's really a matter of personal preference

'cause a lot of times, people are like –

I get the question, "Where do you – What's the future of the internet?"

I'm like, "I don't know.

I just like to borrow where I get on it again and the day after."

Twitter changed where the images don't count in the characters,

and it's still messing me up, like, right Abraham?

You got an extra 24 characters.

It's amazing.

It's like the best thing, but for the longest we were waiting for this thing to happen.

And it was not gonna happen, and then it did.

So now, I'm just like, "This changes my entire job."

But as an aside, yeah, I mean I don't think that everybody necessarily has to

make work about the internet.

That would get so boring.

Oh, my god. – Yeah.

But I do think that if there is a criticality to which we bring to our engagement

with all of these things that we've become so readily dependent on, it's definitely necessary.

I think a lot about, especially now, like the politick of screen time,

where sometimes adults don't let little people be on the computer

because it melts their brains,

where it's just like, "No, maybe not."

Maybe we understand that the technology, and

this digital world has – is very much a mirror of things

that we've always been engaging with and thinking through.

And we need to bring a critical lens,

even if this is a child, to what these things do

and mean in the world.

Our president is on Twitter.

That's just a fact.

That's, unfortunately, not going away.

And so maybe we should talk more critically about

what these mediums do, where they come from, and how they've operated over time.

But yeah.

So I don't think you necessarily have to, but if you want to, you should.

I'd love to see that.

How To Learn Number 5 For Kids - Duration: 8:05.

Elliot - Hi there.

Welcome to myABCdad.

My name is Craig and this here is...

Elliot - Elliot.

And today, what are we learning?

Elliot - Number 5.

We're going to be learning number 5, so we hope you join us for that and let's get...

Elliot - Started!

Started!

Okay, so here is the number 5 worksheet.

If you'd like to download and have a go with us.

Then please visit www.myabcdad.com.

For each of these number pictures I am going to show you an example... of what's happening.

Then I'll ask you to choose which number picture is the best fit for that example.

Then you can choose a number sentence that you think helps describe what's happening in the picture best.

Here comes the first example.

We start with... how many hazelnuts?

Elliot - Four.

Okay, and how many... do I add to four?

Elliot - One.

And what does that equal?

Elliot - Five.

Okay.

Which one of those number pictures would you say is the best fit?

Let's put that right beside so that we can see.

So what's happening in that picture?

Elliot - There's four and then one.

One, and how many will there be altogether?

Elliot - Five.

Five, so which one of these number sentences is the best at describing this number picture?

That one there.

I agree.

And now here comes the next example.

So, how many do we start with this time?

Elliot - Six.

And how could you check to make sure that that equals six?

Elliot - One...

Two...

Three...

Four...

Five...

Six!

Okay, and watch what happens?

How many did I take away?

Elliot - One.

And how many are still left?

Elliot - Five.

So which picture best describes what I just did there, in that example?

Elliot - This one.

I agree.

Which number sentence best describes what is happening in that picture?

That one there, six take away one equals...

Elliot - Five.

In this example... we are going to start with this many.

Elliot - Ten.

How do you know that's ten?

Elliot - One...

Two...

Three...

Four...

Five...

Six...

Seven...

Eight...

Nine...

Ten.

So we start with ten and how many do I take away?

Elliot - Five.

Five, so which number picture best describes what just happened there?

That one.

And now which number sentence again describes what's happening best in that picture?

What's this number?

Elliot - Ten.

And what's happening?

Elliot - Take away five equals five.

Lovely.

Okay, you glue that down.

Okay so three down and we have five more.

Here comes the next one.

How many do we start with in this example?

Elliot - Two.

And then how many are added to that two?

Elliot - Three.

Three and how many are there altogether now?

Elliot - Five.

So which number picture best describes... okay, I agree.

Which number sentence describes best what's happening there?

That one there and what does that say?

Elliot - Two plus three equals five.

Great.

This one I am actually going to start with an empty table, so how many are there right now?

Elliot - Zero.

Zero and what happens next?

Elliot - Five.

Five.

So we started with zero.

I added five and what does that now equal?

Elliot - Five.

Okay, which picture best describes what's just happened there?

I agree.

Now which number sentence would be the best fit?

And what does that say?

You read it for us.

Elliot - Zero plus five equals five.

Lovely.

How many hazelnuts do we start with in this example?

Elliot - One...

Two...

Three...

Four...

Five...

Six...

Seven...

Eight...

Nine.

Nine, okay.

And then now what happens?

What did I do?

Elliot - You took away four.

Okay so we started with nine.

I took away four.

How many are left there?

Elliot - Five.

Okay, which picture do you think best fits what I've just done?

Lovely, I agree.

And now which number sentence that's left fits that?

Elliot - Nine take away four equals five.

We start with this many.

Elliot - One.

One. And then... this many comes to join or I add that many.

Elliot - Four.

And what does that equal altogether?

Elliot - Five.

Which picture best describes what's happening?

Which number sentence card should we use for that one, the take away or the add?

Elliot - The add.

Why?

Elliot - One and then we add four.

Lovely, I agree.

Okay, so here comes the last example.

We start with this many, how many are there altogether?

Elliot - Eight.

Eight, how do you know for sure?

Elliot - Because...

What could you do to check?

Elliot - Count.

Okay.

Elliot - One - Two...

Three - Four...

Five - Six...

Seven - Eight.

Okay, and now... what did I just do?

Elliot - Took away three.

So we started with eight.

I took away three.

How many are left there?

Elliot - Five.

Five. So what do you need to write on this last number sentence card?

Okay, so Elliot has put his name on and the date.

He is going to stick them, glue them on around his five.

Then he is going to colour in his five.

Okay, so there you are finished.

I love your number five, the colours you've used.

That's a great pattern... green and orange.

Okay, so that concludes this video session today where Elliot and I worked with which number?

What number did we work Elliot?

Elliot - Number five.

Number five.

If you'd like to have a go then please visit www.myabcdad.com where you can find this download

and work on it yourself.

We hope you enjoyed that and we will see you...

Elliot - Soon!

Soon, bye.

Elliot - Bye.

Donald Trump says North Korea is 'looking for trouble' - Duration: 4:14.

Donald Trump says North Korea is 'looking for trouble'

U.S. President Donald Trump doubled down on previous comments that Washington would solve problems created by North Korea's nuclear weapons programs alone if necessary, while also claiming the DPRK was "looking for trouble" via Twitter on Tuesday morning.

The tweets are the latest in a series of hawkish remarks from the new U.S. President, and come after a U.S. Navy carrier strike group was ordered to head for the Korean Peninsula last Sunday.

"North Korea is looking for trouble. If China decides to help, that would be great. If not, we will solve the problem without them! U.S.A.," one tweet posted at 6AM (EST).

The statement follows a meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping last week.

The two world leaders discussed North Korea during the two-day summit held at Trump's residence at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, though it's unclear if they reached any firm conclusions.

But a second tweet said the U.S. President had attempted to leverage U.S. – Chinese trade for help with the DPRK.

"I explained to the President of China that a trade deal with the U.S. will be far better for them if they solve the North Korean problem!" it reads.

While Beijing has traditionally not been overly cooperative with Washington on North Korea, the U.S. administration's new stance and rhetoric will likely be under discussion by the Chinese leadership. "Beijing is in an increasingly uncomfortable position.

It knows that if the North Korean regime falls, stability on its border is very uncertain and its ability to maintain a 6.5% growth rate (critical to China's grand strategy) will be at risk," Ken Gause, a North Korea leadership specialist at CNA Corporation told NK News.

"On the other hand, if China continues to adhere to its middle road strategy of supporting sanctions but not pressuring North Korea too much, it may be playing with borrowed time as the U.S. patience wears thin.".

The deployment of the U.S. Nimitz class aircraft carrier, which follows a unilateral U.S. military strike on Syria last week has also ruffled feathers in Pyongyang.

On Tuesday the country's foreign ministry labeled the deployment "reckless moves for invading the DPRK" via an article published by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

"The Trump administration gives every indication that it is playing hardball. Trump does not want to be accused of adhering to the Obama strategy of strategic patience.

Now, the question is whether the US is willing to pull the trigger and risk putting the peninsula on an escalatory ladder that will be hard to climb down from," Gause added.

Le Cancre - Jacques Prévert (Court Animé) - Duration: 0:51.

A poem by Jacques Prévert

His head says no

but his heart says yes.

He says yes to what he loves

He says no to the teacher.

He's standing there, being questioned,

and all the problems are posed.

Suddenly he gets the giggles.

He wipes the board clear of

the numbers and the words,

the dates and the names

the sentences and the traps.

Then, despite the teacher's threats,

and the jeers of the child prodigies,

with chalks of all colours,

on the black board of misfortune,

he draws the face of happiness.

Donald Trump Jr. won't run for NY governor in 2018 - Duration: 1:46.

Donald Trump Jr. won't run for NY governor in 2018

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Trump, will not run for governor of New York in 2018, Trump Jr. told The Associated Press in an interview published Tuesday.

Maybe someday, he said in the interview. Its not something Im doing now. But you never know, its fascinating stuff..

The comments come after The New York Post's Page Six column last week reported that Trump Jr. "is interested in running for office.".

In the new interview with the AP, Trump Jr. echoed Page Six's source, saying running for governor would be more appealing than running for mayor of New York.

"If I was, New York City mayor is much less interesting to me than perhaps other things like governor of a state," said Trump Jr.

"Thats not saying Im running. Its just saying that, hey, if I ever did something, Id probably be more interested in something like that..
