Emil's story beings around the year 2026.
Following the death of his parents, Emil and his sister Halua were placed in an orphanage.
Due to the two of them speaking a different language other than Japanese,
which was the primary language that was spoken by both children and adults at the orphanage,
they were treated like outcasts.
Although they received lessons in Japanese,
This only fueled her protectiveness towards her brother even more.
the two of them preferred to converse in their native tongue when speaking to each other,
which differentiated them from the other children.
As a result of this, the two of them were given a private room of their own as opposed to sleeping in a big room with several other children.
Because of this segregation, Halua's need to protect her younger brother grew stronger and stronger.
Halua enjoyed reading, and knew more about the world than her innocent younger brother did.
She knew what kind of place an orphanage wasfrom having read about them in her storybooks.
Although Emil didn't seem to pay much attention to it,
Halua would notice how several kids would go missing only to be replaced with a new group of children.
Due to not trusting anyone else in the facility enough and not wanting to scare Emil, Halua kept her suspicions to herself.
She didn't trust the adults that were working at the facility.
They were wearing white lab coats and would usher children away with them that would never come back.
Halua and Emil only trusted one of the adults - a woman who acted as a mother figure to the two of them.
Although the strong chemical scent that was stuck to her lab coat made it impossible for Halua to put her complete trust in the woman.
Halua didn't like the tests that they were put through by the adults.
But Emil was happy. He was smiling and Halua would do anything to protect her brother.
When the two of them first arrived at the facility, Halua faked an eye injury in order to not be separated from Emil.
However, as time went by she'd examine her left eye by pressing on it gently when she was sure she was alone and no one could see her.
Her eye was later examined and following the examination, both Halua and Emil were moved to another building.
They were initially supposed to have been placed in different rooms but after throwing a crying tantrum, Halua was allowed to share a bedroom with Emil.
She was now more paranoid than ever,
she didn't want to trust anyone as she was sure someone, somewhere was listening to her.
The next day, both Emil and Halua were brought in for an examination.
Although she had a bad feeling about the entire ordeal, Haula went along with the tests and let the adults do what they wanted.
Even though she was scared and wanted it to stop, she toughed it out.
After completing the tests however, Halua found herself separated from Emil.
When she questioned the adults, they told her that the tests showed she'd contracted a severe illness and that immediate surgery was required.
Before she was able to put up any kind of fight, Halua was put to sleep by the doctors
as Emil was escorted back to their shared room.
As Halua drifted off, she could still hear the adults talking.
They were talking about how they couldn't afford to ''lose another specimen'', as this was already ''the sixth one.''
It turns out that the facility was a part of an organization known as the National Weapons Laboratory.
Posing as an orphanage, the doctors would perform gruesome experiments on the homeless children
in an attempt to turn them into weapons that could wield magic.
Halua then wakes back up, only to find her consciousness stuck in a massive skeleton-like body.
Terribly afraid and confused, Halua then moved around only to find that the skeletal limbs responded to her commands.
An unfamiliar voice kept on saying something about an ''experimental weapon no.6'' and ''mankind's last hope''
but Halua couldn't bring herself to care.
She struggled against the restraints that had been put on her, hitting the wall over and over in a fit of rage.
She then remembered the adult's words: experimental weapon number six.
And so; realizing that this must've meant that five other children before her had also been put through the same transformation.
Then, she suddenly remembered Emil. She needed to help him.
She had to protect Emil so that he wouldn't be turned into a monster as well.
Halua tore herself free of the restraints and went berserk.
She made her way through the facility with ease, seeing as she was now a weapon.
She could kick her way through walls, tear away metal boards as if they were sheets of paper
and crush the adults in the palm of her hand.
No matter how much she screamed or cried, no sound would come out.
She then caught a glimpse of herself in a glass reflection. Her face was round and so were her eyes.
She couldn't bring herself to feel sad at the sight,
if anything, she felt as if it was all just silly.
The reason she was screaming and crying wasn't because she'd been turned into a monster, it was because she wanted to find Emil.
After having destroyed a majority of the facility, reducing it to nothing but a heap of junk,
Halua heard a familiar voice call out to her.
Realizing that it was Emil, she turned to look at her younger brother.
She wanted to reach out to him so that they could break free, but her legs wouldn't move.
Emil stared at her with a sad look on his face, as she was slowly petrified.
Halua realized that Emil had been turned into a weapon as well, specifically one that could hold her back if she were to go berserk.
Emil had been given the powers to petrify anyone with his gaze,
and now he'd been tasked to petrify his sister by the adults.
Even though Halua knew she could fight back,
she accepted her fate and allowed herself to be petrified by Emil.
After the incident, the facility was shut down along with the experiments.
Emil moved in to a mansion together with a butler named Sebastian.
Just the two of them occupied the large mansion, Emil started wearing a blindfold out of fear and guilt for his past.
His petrification powers were still active and so he couldn't look at anyone without turning them to stone.
The butler Sebastian cared very deeply for Emil, just like a father would,
and spent many years trying to find a cure for his young master's curse.
During the events of Nier, Sebastian goes as far as to write a letter addressed
to the home of the main character Nier and his daughter Yonah.
Nier and Yonah both mistook the letter for a love letter addressed to Yonah.
And so, Nier traveled to the mansion only to be greeted by Sebastian, who then leads Nier to meet with Emil.
After his meeting with Nier, Emil learned to trust both Nier and his travel companions Weiss and Kainé.
Although he'd still wear his blindfold, meeting with Nier, Weiss and Kainé helped Emil in becoming more outgoing and brave.
After an unfortunate series of events however, Emil is forced to use his petrification powers again.
As his newfound friend Kainé blocks the door, which is keeping a massive monster away,
she orders him to petrify her so that she'll be able to keep the monster at bay.
Although he hesitates, he reluctantly agrees to petrify her in order to not let the monster run amok.
Five years later, Emil and Nier visit the underground laboratories that were a part of Emil's mansion.
Together, they travel deep into the laboratories in a search for a cure for Emil's petrification powers
in hopes of being able to bring Kainé back to her original state.
Whilst the two of them make their way through the laboratory, Emil's memories about Halua and the experiments start to resurface.
After having come across Halua deep down in the laboratories, Emil nears her body, only to be swallowed up by her.
Nier acts immediately by engaging the newly awakened Halua in battle and defeats her.
Halua and Emil are then reunited together for a brief moment, where the two of them are able to say farewell properly.
Now, after having merged together with No.6's remnants, Emil gained strong magical powers,
at the price of his human body.
Ashamed of his new appearance, he cries into Nier's arms.
Nier however, reassures him that he'll always be the same Emil no matter what.
Together, they're able to lift the petrification curse off Kainé and bring her back.
As their journey continues, Emil remains a party member throughout the story and travels alongside
Nier, Kainé and Weiss on their journey to defeat the Shadowlord and save Yonah.
During a ferocious battle in the town of The Aerie, Emil lost control of his powers and ended up eradicating the entire village.
This shows off the true scale of his magical powers as he's able to pulverize an entire town in only one blast.
Nearing the end of their journey, when faced against two androids named Devola and Popola,
Emil sacrifices himself in battle for the sake of Nier, Weiss and Kainé.
As he curled himself up and prepared for his final attack, Emil took the time to look back on himself.
He reminisced over how guilty he used to feel about his curse, how he used to hate his eyes only to then start hating his body.
But he realized that in the end, without all of what had happened, he never would've gotten the chance to meet with his new friends.
And so he thanks them before vanishing in an explosion of magic.
The only thing to remain of his body was his decapitated head which was sent off into the desert following the events of the blast.
Feeling relieved that he had survived the blast, Emil rolled off to try and reunite with his friends once more.
Later on, after having reconstructed most of his body after the events of Nier,
Emil found his way back to Kainé.
The two of them find a mysterious tower with a strange man referring to himself as the ''overseer'' inside of it.
The two of them fought their way to the core together only to destroy the tower but not before reuniting with a newborn Nier.
However, as the result of the events that take place in Nier, humanity went extinct.
The Earth was invaded by aliens and Emil was left with no other choice than to fight back alone
in an attempt to try and protect the places that were precious to him.
He created over six million copies of himself in an attempt to try and keep the aliens at bay,
but he did not succeed.
Down the line somewhere, the original Emil is lost between all of the copies as his memories started to deteriorate as more copies were created.
Soon, the remaining android forces on the Earth started to fight back against the aliens by creating more advanced androids
and so Emil's copies were left to their own devices in protecting the fragments of the original Emil's most precious memories.
As new and better androids were constantly being created to fight for the Earth, the Emil copies simply wished to protect what was precious to them.
During the story of Nier: Automata, the two main character's 2B and 9S encounter one of Emil's clones in an abandoned shopping mall,
hiding inside the body of a machine.
During a specific quest line, 2B and 9S came across a Lunar Tear,
seeing the flower filled Emil with memories and emotions that he couldn't quite put his finger on.
But he asked the two of them to let him know would they come across any more of the same flower.
Due to the faded memories that the copies carried, he wasn't able to remember just why the flower was so important to him.
As more of the flowers were discovered throughout different parts of the world,
Emil was slowly but surely reminded of the thoughts and memories that were contained within his original self.
The flowers made him remember seeing the humans go extinct alongside the flowers as sand took over instead
and how aliens invaded the planet and he was left to fight alone.
He remembered how the original Emil created several copies of himself to fight in the war,
only for them die over and over as the memories of what he wanted to protect the most started fading away from him.
Desperate for their suffering to end, a group of Emil clones took to the desert and went berserk;
screaming about how long they've suffered and fought, how many friends they've seen die and how it never seemed to end.
After having deemed the world worthless, the clones tried to end it once and for all.
However, one of the copies spoke up.
He said how they all had to keep fighting in order to one day overcome the hardships.
They had to keep fighting so that they could protect the things that mattered to their original self and their long-lost human friends.
Emil had to keep fighting, because this was the world his friend tried to save.
His journey then finally ends on a vague note, implying that he was reunited with his friends once again after having been laid to rest.
I really hope you found this video interesting,
Emil is one of my favorite characters of all time so this video was something that I've wanted to create for a very long time.
