Read&Write for Mac - Speech - Duration: 5:48.
Getting Read&Write to read for you is easy.
If you want anything read just simply click where you wish it to read and then click Play.
See the way it highlights the words as it is reading? This means you can see exactly what is being read.
It can also help improve your word recognition and comprehension.
To stop it reading, click Stop.
You can use the Forward icon to skip the reading forward.
The Rewind can be used to skip back so you can listen to the text again.
And if you want to pause the reading simply click on Pause.
To start it reading again just click the Pause again.
There might be something about the speech that you would like to change like the voice or the colors that are being used to highlight.
To do this click on Preferences.
Here in the Appearance section you can change the highlighting colors.
You can change the foreground color.
And you can change the background color here.
This is what your choices will look like.
There are lots of voices to choose from.
To change the voice that is reading, click on Speech, then Edit Voice Settings.
This will open the Text to Speech Settings of your Mac.
Here you can choose a different voice.
You can even download more voices by clicking here on Customize.
If the voice is too fast or too slow you can change the speed by moving this slider.
Let's hear what it sounds like now. Click Play.
The small sample will let you hear what your new voice is going to sound like.
You can then make further changes to the voice if you need to.
When you are happy with your voice just close this panel and it will be saved.
There are other things you can change about Speech.
You can set it to continuously read and change how much text is read at a time here.
Some people like the software to read to them as they type
so they can immediately hear what they have written.
If you want to see if you like this option, switch it on here.
You can have it speak by letter, word or sentence.
Let's see this working.
As you can see this is useful as you will be able to hear if you have made a mistake straight away.
In the Speech Preferences, this is an important setting for reading online – Read the Web.
If you want webpages read for you, switch this on.
Then any website will be read when you hover your mouse over the text.
You may find that sometimes a word isn't pronounced the way you are used to.
This might happen with names of people or places or due to local accents.
This option lets you fix it.
First click here.
Type in the word you want to change.
Then just type in the phonetic spelling.
This is how it will sound.
From now on the word will be pronounced the way you want it to.

In this short video, I will show you quickly the principle of CSS.
I recommend you however to follow the CSS basics course from W3Cx if you want to learn
this technology more deeply.
So HTML is for structure.
CSS is an other language by W3C that it's useful for specifying the look and feel of
these elements.
How do they @@fit together?
How many spaces between them?
What color to use and so on?
So I'm just going to copy and paste some examples here and you saw that the look and feel of
the document changed.
And it's, now, using show shadows, border, background colors, different character font
and so on.
So the CSS file, here, is just using what we call "rule".
Rule, the selector so this means for all "h1" elements in the page, I went to apply these
properties.
And this propertie have a name: color and a value: "red".

With Read&Write, you can scan documents directly into PDF, Microsoft Word, or HTML.
Once you have them in one of these formats you will be able to use all the other support features
like Speech and Audio Maker.
Click on the Scan.
If you wish you can scan from a file such as a PDF or a picture. If this is the case, choose this option.
We are going to scan a document from a scanner so we need to make sure the scanner is selected here.
If you want to scan more than one page, select this option.
Choose what you want to scan in to.
There is the choice of PDF, Word or HTML. Once you have picked the required format,
click on the Scan to begin scanning.
You will be asked to give the scan a name and where it should be saved.
After a few moments, the scanned document will open in the format you selected.
